What the fuck, just looked at the Massdrop Whitefox page, did they really design it without the option to use stepped caps lock? Why? There's just a bunch of empty space around the normal position on the PCB.
>>
>>59601492
Did you order it from gearbest? How do you like the RGB?
>>
>>59601536
No I ordered it from amazon, but they discontinued it I guess
>>59601279 here got if for exactly 37 usd

RGB is actually terrible, each row has a different color and you can't change it. Makes the keys look like a rainbow. Then again I never really liked RGB on my keyboards and always turn them off.
>>
>>59601568
Well, it's not rgb if you can't change the led colors. I guess the one that you got wasn't even rgb model like this
http://www.gearbest.com/keyboards/pp_607367.html?wid=21
>>
>>59601643
nah it was nothing like that. I should have specified. Yeah my keyboard is permanently one color per cap so it is not RGB at all.
>>
>>59601655
How is the build quality? I might order the RGB version
>>
>>59601663
I have been using it for months now. I replaced the caps twice and there have been incidences where the clamp has stuck to the keycaps, but that is very easy to fix.

Remember I got gateron switches and the RGB one you link does not seem to use Gateron, it says "Xinda" as the company that makes the switches and I never heard of them.

Sup /mkg/ I'm looking to buy babby's first mechanical keyboard, I've done some research of my own but any advice would be appreciated since it seems like most first time buyers end up either buying a cheap piece of shit that falls apart in ten minutes or something unecessarily expensive

At that price point getting a ducky or leopold would be a great solution.
>Logitech G710+ - want something less gamery and more compact.
Then an 80% is more your drift.

I would personally recommend the ducky one
>https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1548\
There is obviously a non backlight one for 10 dollars cheaper.

Leopolds are all good from my experience, but this one comes with pbt keycaps out of the box

Up to you
>>
>>59601978
>>59601893

I agree with anon on leopolds, if you play vidya at all they're really nice, if not they're still really nice (I got mine for starcraft and haven't been disappointed)
>>
>>59601972
Recommend the James Donkey gaterons or Rantopad MXX if you are on a budget. Both have brown models (rantopad's brown model is more expensive though) and blue models.

I would actually recommend getting a 80% keyboard cause of space and portability.

James Donkey one

Fix the solder joints or cables you've broken by constantly tugging the cord when it falls. And take less drugs, it'll help with your general coordination and keyboard dropping.

I'm looking for a keyboard that meets this criteria —

1. Backlighting (multicolored or white)
2. Short and compact
3. Has onboard USB port

Those three are required. These following are things I desire and would love to have in a keyboard but are not mandatory —

1. Volume control
2. Headphone port

Does such a keyboard exist, anons? I've been searching fruitlessly for quite a while.

The plastic case isn't exactly premium, but there's an option for an aluminum one, which solves this.

Thanks. maybe you could answer this as well. Currently have a cherry red gayme board and I don't really like the feel on those. They are clicky/soft (almost no force needed). I'm a bit of a touch typist as well, would browns on a TADA68 be a good match? I have used a cherry brown before at someone else's place and really liked the feel on those.
>>
>>59610493
Browns require the same amount of force as reds, both for actuation and bottoming out, with the only difference being the tactile bump you get right when it actuates. If you like how browns feel but want something heavier, you should look for clears, but if you just want something heavier than reds, that being a linear switch with no tactile bump, but heavier, then look for blacks.

Not him, but I do have a full size Ducky One with PBT keycaps. The keyboard is sold. The thing that surprised my the most was how heavy it is. The steel plate is solid and would only flex if I really applied a lot of force to it. I've dropped the keyboard a couple times and there are no cracks and it works just fine. Its got nkro over USB and if you OS doesn't support it for some reason then you can switch to 6kro with the dip switches on the back. The other dip switches change the position of the FN key on the bottom row. They keyboard isn't fully programmable, but it does comes with rebindable media keys, macros, as well as three function layers. The manual does a terrible job at explaining how to program them so I'd suggest to look up some of the several guides on youtube and reddit. Personally I set some of the media on my numpad on layer two. I though in order to execute theses macros I had to hold FN + the macro key I set. Turns out tho you don't and all what you need to do is just press the button the macro was set too. It tripped me up when I was entering numbers into excel and I was pausing, skipping, or rewinding my songs. It also has mouse emulation, which the only use I found for it is in 1 game where you needed precise mouse control, which was easy thanks to the finer control of a keyboard. As for the PBT keycaps they feel nicer and softer to the touch and after spending some time with them I can never go back to ABS. Since they are dye-subbed it means the legends are burned into the keycap becoming a permanent part of it and as such will never wear off. This also means that you can't feel the legends which makes them even smoother. Plus PBT is much more resistant to wear and will never yellow like those old keyboards, unlike ABS. Now there are some things I don't like, such as the lack of software as programming everything has to be done manually. Also the manual is terrible.

The biggest issue however might be the quality control. After about a week one of the keycaps began to fade. This didn't make sense as the keyboard is dye-sub PBT, which shouldn't happen. After looking around online I found out that if dye-sub PBT is left out in the sun it will bleach over time, and that this is a common issue on Ducky keyboards. This is most likely a quality control issue as so far only 1 key has been effected, and its not a common one like Enter, W, A or D. I hope you can see it with pic related. I don't care since its only one key, but I thing you should know about this. There doubleshot keycaps don't have this problem

the pok3r is more programmable, but if you want a fully programmable 60% then go for a GH60.

I want something rectangular.

I'm the guy you replied to, and I found
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823962003&cm_re=programmable_keyboard_60-_-23-962-003-_-Product

and

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Keycaps-Cherry-Mx-Blue/dp/B00W02J4DA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1490720631&sr=1-1&keywords=pok3r

Is this a good keyboard for the money? If I'm gonna pay $100 plus I definitely want to get my money's worth.

My job consists of typing furiously all day long, and I currently have an IBM mechanical.

Saw the Logitech romer G at a store today, and like the fact that the keystroke seems to be really short.
Shorter than cherry anyway.
Should allow me to type faster, right?

You guys think the Logitech mechanical is the keyboard for me?

Or is the IBM still the king of the mechanicals?

These switches are gaymer shit, get gateron clears.

Masterkeys pro S or pok3r ?
>>
>>59623165
if you want shorter travel get mechanical chiclet switches
>>
>>59623797
That's going to be too short I think.

>>59623190
Those seem to be just the keys.
>>
>>59623990
how short do you want? Regular cherry switches are 4mm of total travel, while romer g is 3mm. there are even shorter switches at 2mm. Or you can get a switch with a high actuation point, then shorten it with o-rings. For example cherry switches actuate at 2mm, so you can use o-rings to shorten the total travel to say 2.5mm. Some switches actuate at 1.1mm so with o-rings you can bring down the travel distance to 1.5mm
