>>
I got an Eagletec KG010 and I was wondering..

What g thought of that board?

Can anyone can tell me the kind switches it uses?

And finally... Is the number pad really worth it? I use it when it's there but I was using a Samsung Bluetooth board without the numpad and loves the small size... But I'm torn would hate to not have something and need it later rather than have something and not need it often.

I plan on upgrading to something nicer once I find out what I like best and sliding this to my partners PC.

I game and code a bi for what it's worth.

Is making the letters for your keycaps a good idea?

Yes. It worked the same way as the SW99 did for Smiff & Wess in the late 90s, Walther in Germany manufactured every component except for the barrel and naked slide, which were made in the U.S. Everything in an MR9 is interchangeable with a P99 because they are literally from the same bins in Ulm, even the frame is made by Walther.

They're MUCH cheaper than P99s.

Have been using it for months but still haven't put a back on it.

People give me shit for `making things unnecessarily harder' in reference to having to use both shifts to get some symbols etc.
What goes ignored I guess is that after the second day and you're use to it, not having to move from the homerow ever makes everything so much better, nicer, and easier.
I love my cute loliboard.
Form vs function? This takes the cake of both.

Anyone used one of those Unicomp TrackPoint keyboards?

Bought myself a StinkPad recently and loving the TrackPoint. I already have a Unicomp which I love, but I feel like throwing some money away just to get a TrackPoint.

Is it actually any use in a desktop scenario? Also does it cause any compatability issues? I've bought all my Unicomp's with a PS/2 connector because I have autism, any my motherboard only has one port, I assume they both (the keyboard and the 'mouse' TrackPoint) just run through one connector?

I tried this keyboard at a >meetup once and it felt pretty similar to topre except much heavier. It's essentially MX black with a rubber sheet over the switches to make it waterproof, but also provides tactility. I'd imagine the rubber sheet would feel much better when paired with switches which are lighter such as gateron clears.

They are also cheap. I see them on ebay for ~$25.
>>
>>59456366
Would you really use it over a mouse or trackpad?
>>
Tbh, my Unicomp has really spoiled me. I feel slight irritation at the feel of the el cheapo rubber domes at the library and computer lab.

Considering getting a Cherry Blue board with more key rollover for gaymen, but it's not a big deal.

Its just a keyboard dude. I have rubber dome keyboards made in 2002 that have din connectors so it really isn't a good indication. If you really want you can get a used IBM model M. Unicomp still makes them today and are basically the same keyboards from 1985, just with lighter materials. You can also get a Dell AT101W for around 40 bucks on ebay, or if you are an apple fan then an AEK will do. Both of which use Alps switches. If you are a cherry fan then you can find old G80s practically everywhere for cheap. Cherry still makes the same keyboard today, but if you really want you can get one with vintage blacks, meaning they were made before cherry changed their manufacturing process in 1994. Or if you prefer something similar to Topres you can get old BTC keyboards. If you want to go ancient then get an IBM beam spring or a Honeywell hall effect from the 1970s

Depends where / who you're buying from. If it's a private individual on r/mechmarket, ask them to mark the value as £5 and most will will, so you'll avoid charges. The Chinese happily do this too.

Real webstores and larger sites generally don't as they don't want the risk of it coming back to them.

I await the day that anyone releases a TKL, RGB (or White LED), non-shit font, and PBT. The Ducky almost ticks everything, but it's missing PBT and the font is slightly off. Rather than the old version where letters were completely joined, certain letters like the "B" are split into sections. This aggravates me to no bounds. I feel like this is an issue with doubleshot keys, since the aftermarket PBT versions have the same broken letters.

I want to build a cool mechanical keyboard. It has to be a full keyboard and have multimedia buttons, and also cheaper than what I use; currently I'm using a Microsoft mechanical keyboard that costed like $15. The issue is that when I looked at the parts in online stores individual keys would cost $10 so I don't know what's going on. Are you all a bunch of fucking idiots paying thousands of dollars just to be edgy or is there a way to actually to create a price advantage by building your own instead of purchasing it?
>>
>>59472820
They come in packs of 10 usually, so when you're seeing $10 it's actually about a dollar a switch, the more you buy the less it costs per switch. Building your own board will usually be more expensive then buying something comparable, so what I would recommend is buying a full size mech and building a separate 10-key layout board for your special buttons
>>
>>59472820
>price advantage by building your own instead of purchasing it
no

while people aren't paying THOUSANDS for their shit
you will never be able to buy 104 switches from china for less than whatever company buying hundreds of thousands at a time can

digikey sells cherry switches individually for between 70-90 cents USD each
>>
>>59472820
you can get kailhs for as low as 23 cents a switch, but its more expensive building a keyboard yourself then buying a prebuilt

Somehow I was able to recognize the source to that image, and I haven't even read it.

>>

Mx stem switches?
>>
>>59477023
What, really? Higher than 1.2 mm? Where can I find stats?

It's nice to have something made by Cherry anyways only because they give you more board options, not because they're better switches.
>>
>>59477089
Yes, they use MX Blacks.
>>
>>59476970
Whats the point when you are just going to bottom out anyway. If anything you should look for shorter switches. I know gateron has small mid profile switches that actuate at 1.5mm, but the total travel distance is 3 compared to the 4mm of cherry MX. Some people say alps and topre feel faster since they have a shorter travel distance of 3.5 and 3.8 respectivly. There are even shorter switches made by cherry like the ML that actuate at 1.5mm but have a 3mm total travel distance
>>
>>59477366
>Whats the point when you are just going to bottom out anyway.
???
The point is the actuation distance is so low that you're forced to travel so far for each stroke. I can put triple o-rings under the caps if I want to kill the total travel but it doesn't effect the actuation point so it's pointless. And the landing is way harder since you just go "thud" after the actuation instead of being cushioned by the spring.

Why do you faggots act like you care so much about keyboards, but very few people who post here actually own ergonomic split keyboards? Woopidy fucking doo, your keys making a clicking noise when you press them, but that doesn't change how you still have to deal with a shit layout that should have went away decades ago when manual typewriters disappeared and kinking your wrists to line up your fingers. More common split keyboards like Microsoft's Natural Keyboard Pro can be found regularly at thrift stores for a couple bucks and will be much more comfortable to use for hours at a time than most any of the shit that gets posted in these threads. Any one posting here that isn't using a split keyboard (with the exception of those using old hardware or shit they built themselves) is a consumerist faggot who just likes to piss away money for imagined return and is no different from an audiophool.

Any rubber dome aficionados here?

We're a small group of individuals boldly going against the grain in striving for tactile perfection. We prefer the gentle, organic feedback of a rubber dome over the robotic, cold click of soulless mechanical keyboards. The feeling is gentle and intoxicating - like typing on clouds. And best of all? In comparison to mechanical switches, rubber domes are almost inaudible.

Keyboard manufacturers prefer selling mechanical keyboards because they're much more expensive. They line their pockets with the money of clueless consumers who are unaware or simply do not care for an alternative.

I hope there are like-minded individuals here. Perhaps we could have daily rubber dome keyboard threads where we can share photos and anecdotes about our devices. It's important that we stick together, us, users of these particular type of input devices. We have much in common.

Jailhouse blues
>>
>>59477366

I really don't understand the point of switches with a tactile bump that's so far down as it is on browns.

If you want that bump, you want it because you want to avoid bottoming out to facilitate faster typing. That's the only actual use for it that doesn't fall into neckbeard placebo bullshit like "comfort" (at the end of the day, a keyboard is a keyboard you pussy, it's not gonna hurt you), sound and whatever else excuse low WPM douchebags have for getting into mechs. And so, assuming one is not one of these douchebags, he wants low travel time because that's that's the whole point of not bottoming out.

So basically, either get blues (and similar) or reds/blacks (and similar). Browns only appeal to shitheads, that's why they're brown.

I just popped into this thread to share a problem that I solved earlier this week with my mech. keyboard.

I spilled a bit of Gatorade on one of my keyboard keys, and of course it dripped down into the mechanical switch, causing it to get gummy and sticky. I looked for solutions online and took a straw with a bit of water in the bottom, and dripped it down into the switch, and proceeded to mash the fuck out of it like suggested. Turned the keyboard upside down and used a q-tip to soak up any remaining water and let it rest upside down overnight.

Worked like a charm the next day, no gummy s-key.
Sorry for the blogpost

Hey guys. I've owned two noppo choc mini's in my life. A black one with red cherry switches and a white one with blue noppoo switches. The white one has this horrible keychatter that makes it almost unusable for text entry, it's fine in games. Probably a result of the keychatter. I have a software fix called kcfixer but the problem with that is in games occasionally a key press will not register and it's infuriating.

Is this fixable?

Also suggest a budget dark set of keycaps for my white mini that will work with the gray modifiers since they're non-standard. All my shit is black now and it clashes.

on the newer version of the choc mini the only nonstandard keys are the right shift and the spacebar

for budget keycaps get a set from elitekeyboards or china, or the rosewill doubleshots if you can find them

Have you cleaned your keyboard recently? Just finished putting my keycaps back in after washing and drying them. I've had this keyboard about 5 years.

I just got this in the mail. Put on some blank key caps from my broken one. It was cheap but it feels fine, and all it's gotta do is last me till i save up a bit.

In the dishwasher it went, am I right? No but seriously, how would you go about washing your keyboard?

pull caps, dry brush. wash caps.

that, or canned air and loose brush

Where are all the group buys for badass looking keycaps? I swear I only learn about the damned things a month after they close

Also, why the hell doesn't anybody make Alps caps. I want to build a Matias board so bad, but the tiny handful of Alps caps readily available look like shit and harvesting caps from an AEKII or something feels like the darkest of sacrileges

i think you can still get dsa lightcycle. it has an alps option

Looks like a nice set. Good options/coverage, nice legends, nice shape, but man that teal is hard to deal with.

Guess you can't have everything
