Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

>To activate the Description, select build from sidebar then click on the title over the parts list
>Description contains notes, other options, and build skeleton for easy customization / cost savings
>Note: Win7 and 8.1 cannot be installed on a 200 series chipset

Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.

>Subsitute a G4560 with 2400MHz RAM for any Pentium or i3; similar performance, up to 50% cost reduction.
>Consider using an i5 7500 in any RX470/480 or GTX 1060 tier build
>Consider stock fan+heatsink for any i3 or locked i5 build without a Z mobo
>Consider a B250 or mobo for any Pentium or i3 build
>Add a 240GB SSD to the "Very Good" tier build
>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050, RX470, RX480, GTX1060 6GB for 1080p

Can I build a computer with two G4560? Consider how good they are shouldn't I be getting some sort of "super i5" computer or something?

Had anyone attempted before?
>>

My dad works at Intel. They're working on a motherboard that will let you SLI processors. Apparently they're so afraid of Ryzen's core count that they're responding by just letting people slap a bunch of CPUs together.

If I was to be more interested in 3D rendering and modeling than high-end gaming, would a an i5 2400 be a better choice?

>>59377152
It's about ICP (insane clown posse). Basically, the Intel 14nm architecture from 2015 is far more efficient than the 32nm AMD Bulldozer architecture from 2012.

It's like this in dumb babby terms:
>GHz = how hard the processor is working
>core count / thread count = how more efficiently the processor can work tasks in parallel
>ICP = how efficient the processor is

A more efficient processor will usually beat out a processor that is working harder. A processor with a higher core count will do certain processes faster, like rendering video (creating video content), but it does not do all tasks faster because it has more available cores.

Any suggestions? Hoping to keep it around 1.7k as a long time machine. So no upgrades for the next 6ish years.

I mostly do Unity app development and animation in Flash. I game casually, but only multiplayer and usually totally different things every time ranging from Rainbow 6 to Terraria as my group tends to lose focus on specific titles easily.

I was thinking about streaming as a hobby, hence the 1700 instead of a 7700k. The additional cores seem useful in that regard. Please no brand circlejerk.

If you go off sales and buy parts one by one, you could prob save enough to even get a 1070 or even a nice freesync monitor with a 480.

I went full on wait for sales mode and was able to keep a 7600k, xfx 480 gtr alongside a mobo that can overclock the 7600k to 5.2ghz easily WITH both delidding tools, liquid tim and cooler that handles it.

What should I be looking for when building a pc for video editing & rendering? I don't have a hard budget but let's say £800-1K, I'm in the UK.
>>
Performance per core of a 1800X is the same of each core in a i5 7500, according to Passmark scores.

So, both have the same performance for single thread. I can use two cores to host Windows on a VM and there would be six free cores for that.

And the VM would be faster than the 7500 for multithreaded software.

Did I miss something? The question is, will a 1800X VM be as fast as an i5 7500 pure system for single thread, and better for multithread?

My only problem here is that I heard there are problems with passthrough in Ryzen motherboards. Could you guys give me some pointers for information on that?
>>
>>59379745
Focus on a good CPU and a healthy amount of ram; 16GB+. The more cores the better for modern video rendering. Get a Ryzen 1700 and OC it a little bit and you'll be fine.

You can use a more basic GPU like the GTX 1060 or something.

I'm so fucking done with cheap people asking me to help them pick their computer parts.

Sorry, if you only want to spend $500 bucks on a computer, look into used parts. Nothing I recommend is going to be decent, or within your budget.

Sorry. just had to get that off my chest.
>>
>>59383898
OK, budget is around 1k, so I'm not cheap.

I decided on a 7700K. Please help me decide other parts, so far I have :

>i7-7700K
>No graphic card for now, I'll buy a solid nvidia one someday when I'll have the money, will just do desktop thing using the i7 iGPU in the meantime
>Z270
Which one should I get it? I don't know shit about motherboards and I'm not sure which one would suit my needs better. Ideally I'd like to go up to 16GB of RAM, so enough of that. I'll never crossfire 2 GPUs so just one slot is needed. If I could plug my screen on the mobo that could be great though (because no GPU). Please ask me questions if you need more infos on my needs.
>DDR4 2x4 8GB RAM 2400hz (or 1x 8GB if only 2 slots on the mobo)
>cooler
No idea what to pick. I don't plan on OCing until my CPU is at least 4-5 years old because I'll genuinely have to before that point considering what I plan on doing with my computer. So with that in mind, I don't need a 100€ cooler system, still, I'd like something decent.
>Thermal paste
Should I just use the one that'll be with the cooler?
>SSD : Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5"
I heard it was the best so I'm going with that.
>HDD : Toshiba or HGST 2TO
Might buy it at a later date and just go by the SDD and my old HDD, so it's not urgent.
>EVGA (G2/3 series? / NOT NEX!) (Bronze/Gold) 500-550W
Is it good enough? Or perhaps should I aim 650W at least in case I end up buying a big GPU? No idea.
>Case : Fractal design (with dust filters*)
If it could come with fans already in that'd be perfect.

I don't think I'm forgetting anything. Sorry for being clueless and thanks for reading.

In that case I think it's pretty good, just make sure the board has 4 RAM slots in case she needs to upgrade in the future.

Does she need both the SSD and the HDD? Especially 2TO? There's more value in buying 256GB SSD than a 120GB and who knows it might be enough for her. Doesn't she have a HDD she can re-use for data storage?

Other than that it looks good, though it depends what she means by steam games, if she means to play big AAA games she won't be able to play them in extra settings of course.
>>
>>59384699
This will be her first computer, right now she uses a laptop so it'll be a big step up in terms of gaming. I just selected a 2TB for her game library so it'll be plenty, and the SSD for her boot drive.

Then in that case discuss with her about the build itself. Ask her how much space she needs, explain to her what a SSD is, like how Windows and her games are gonna load super fast, and if she'd prefer put the money into it to then buy a HDD at a later date if she needs more room in the future, etc... Some people absolutely don't need 2TO.

Which mobo for a G4560 build:

Asrock H270/Z270 Pro4 - $100
or
MSI B250 PC MATE - $90

Both have intel LAN. Asrock has better sound. MSI is cheaper and has some better ports. Noticed most low-end Asrock boards don't have USB 3.1 gen2, just gen1 (3.0). Anything to be concerned with, given I don't run usb devices that need that kind of bandwith atm? Which manufacturer has a better reputation/better BIOS?

as much as i hate the term "future proofing", 4 years sounds like a stretch even with a 1080 purely based on a friend who got a 980 on release (and in september it'll be 3 years), right now it's "fine" for 1080p but more and as more triple a games (worst case scenario) are coming out it'll probably start hitting the threshold of just about 60fps right before the 4 year mark.

I say get yourself a nice 1070 non-reference and sit on a comfy (factory or manual) overclock for the next 3 years. Chances are you'll most likely not run into any vram problems ever unless you do 1440p+

At this rate, never ever despite all the various parts of the spec existing for a while nobody has bothered to glue them all together.

That aside (and relevant to this thread) talk dirty to me about 38mm 120mm fans (or for the whole two that exist, 140mm 38mm thick fans with 120mm mountings). I've got a silver arrow i'm planning to bolt to my ryzen build (asus you fucks get some boards built) and my goal is to see what the limits of air cooling can do for the chip and - perhaps just as importantly - getting plenty of airflow over board vrms.

I don't think that's something you'll upgrade really. It's something you'll buy and use until it dies.

>Ive read things about the mobo not being able to support kaby lake out of the box and that I need a skylake to do a bios update?
This is correct.

1. Hope it works (there's a chance it shipped with latest bios)
2. return CPU and get 6500
3. return mobo for b250
4. purchase and return a cheap skylake (which is scummy and you may not get refund
5. borrow skylake from a friend

do more research next time

nah.

just update the bios with a flash drive.

I'm pretty sure the Pentium already has a cooler coming with it, you don't need to buy an extra one.

>Yes

Kingstone is bad get Samsung.

Your B250 is quite expensive (but maybe that's because idk much about CA$), you can get a cheaper one. Just get one with 4 RAM slots.

Your PSU should at least be Bronze.

Get 2x4GB RAM or 1x8GB RAM if the mobo only has 2 RAM slots. If 4 slots when building her PC mount the RAM in dual channel.

Sooo now that Ryzen and some benchmarks are out, I narrowed it down to 1700X vs 7700K vs 6800K for my new build (bit of gaming but mostly editing 4K + AE). About the same prices. Here's the clearest and most informative bench I found, specifically for video editing :

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CC-2017-AMD-Ryzen-7-1700X-1800X-Performance-909/

Thing is, I'd go for the 1700X here as I don't thing I'll use warp stabilizer that much and consider previews and rendering more important.

Except there's the 6800K, which is not in the test. And it has 6 core, compared to the quad core of the 7700k. More cores = best for editing and AE in general, right?

So yeah, I think I'm torn between the 1700X and 6800K.

Please save me, been thinking about configs for a week now but I'm a normalfag.

Uh, the 7700K clearly loses a higher percentage of FPS. Given that he knows not to expect higher framerates to start with on Ryzen with most games, streaming would be more consistent with that baseline.
>>
>>59384013
Why would you even bother with a 7700K, just get a 1700 or a 1600 when the R5 series is released soon.

GPU always bottlenecks the system, might as well get a CPU that is good outside of gaming too.

I'm probably going to pick up a 1600 when they come out in a couple of months.

pretty much just higher bandwidth and can do 100-144hz with no issues at 1440p while hdmi is limited to 60 at 4k, so it depends on your use case, personally i switched over and it's wonderful just make sure you get certified cables or you could run into issues

So, are there any am4 boards coming out that actually support double 4x pci3.0 m.2? Basically looks like the msi boards support it and none of the rest? If you're already spending $200 on a processor, just spring the extra $40 for the 7600k. It's still going to be a beefcake in 5 years and worth the time to delid for better cooling. Non-k little-bit-downgraded processors are for office workstations, you should treat yourself better. Also, better resale value should you need to sell it some years down the road.

Buy 2x4GB RAM instead of 1x8GB. Skylake gains a lot of performance from dual channel and price difference between one stick and two sticks of the same capacity is very small.

the RAM is DDR4-2133

Skylake supports 2133MHz RAM, Kaby Lake supports 2400MHz RAM. Higher frequency RAM can be used with Z-series chipsets. Buy RAM with lower latency if possible.

Hi,

Running an i5 2500k with 16 Gb of DDR3 ram on a matx board. Problem is I need a Mitx system to fit my new chassi and don't wanna "Just wait" Any more for the raven ridge.

I mostly use Linux, browsing the web etc, do some programming but i sometime play games.

I want to be able to play around with GPU passthru to a VM running Windows, which I cant do now because i5 2500k, hence the processor is gonna need virtualization.

Is there a better bang for the buck solution except pic related? was going for amd and reuse my DDR3 ram in my current system but get the feeling a FM2+ like A6 or something is the same price but worse performance then the G4560 just to save a few bucks on RAM.

I have GPU, HDD, PSU etc, just need an mitx solution. To use while i wait for Raven ridge...

9 SEK ~ $1 btw.

First PC in terms of builing. Not really sure if I really need the "K" of the i7 or if the graphics card is good enough
I just want this PC to last a while.

K procs are for overclocking. z170 (may need to flash BIOS) and z270 mobos support that. They're roughly the same price, so consider a z270.

I'd get an SSD instead, unless you store lots of data. I'd also get a lower wattage, Gold-rated PSU. I don't thinm you need 750W, but PCPP will tell you.

Might want a better cooler if you're overclocking too. Does that case come with fans?

Yeah the case' comes with 5 fans, that's the most I've seen, and PCP says 316W so yeah I guess I go lower on that too.
I also doubt I'll ever overclock, just went with the K because it's just a $40 difference from the regular one
>>

you didn't say what you are going to use the pc for. If you want it mainly for gaming i'd suggest getting a slightly cheaper i5 and a slightly better gpu. Also a ssd and a gold certified power supply, you really don't want to jew out on the psu.
