Reposting my question:

Newbie to FFMPEG here, trying to encode a video(mp4, MPEG-4) to SWF for /f/ posting.

Tried
 ffmpeg -i test.mp4 test.swf
and while it worked, the resulting video was sped up by 4x while audio remained at normal speed.
Searched on google for awhile and someone suggested converting to .flv first before copying the video and audio stream to .swf with
ffmpeg -i test.flv -acodec copy -vcodec copy test.swf
but I got the same results, anyone know how to fix this?
Curiously enough, the video didn't have any problems when converted to .flv, only to .swf

Also, anyone know if there's a "compression parameter" in ffmpeg so I can get it to fit under 10MB?

How is this feature called?
The screenshot is from KDE, but I assume the are many programs who can do this, like there are many different panels to install?

Basically i want to add this to a window manager, but I don't even know what to google, and if i try to describe it, it's easy to end up with results about tiling window managers, except this is something else, more like a nice way to switch between floating windows.

Hello!

I have two folders. One is my music folder, one is a backup of it.
For some reason (probably path length?), everytime i try doing a backup of my music folder, the backup ends up having 200 files less or so than the original

Is there a software that would allow me to check what files are missing based on the first folder's content (and every subfolder it contain)? I know winmerge exist, but it actually checks the content of the file, and my music folder is really heavy (77GB)

Is there a valid reason to switch to another OS when Windows 7 stops updating security?

I would use Linux but alot of games don't run good.

>>
>>59174975
I'm assuming Windows 10 does not work for you?

Well, security is important, so that's an actual reason, rather than autism or something else.

>games on linux
Depends what games you play. I only play Dota 2, so I'm good, it runs natively. Look up the games you play.

And for picking your new OS, the question is
>Does it allow me to do everything I need to do with this machine?
If yes, there you go, if no look up something else.
But don't do distro hopping.

>>59174818
A few minutes would be enough for me to die happy and with no regrets.
>>
>>59175091

>I'm assuming Windows 10 does not work for you?
Yeah, I feel like windows has abandoned a pure desktop environment to make a tablet desktop hybrid that I just don't care for.

I'm just kinda left wondering what to do in a few years after windows ditches windows 7 security updates.

I'm not really worried about getting viruses but I am concerned that infected machines on my local network could pose a problem (I live with idiots family members).

Wouldn't a regular windows firewall keep me safe from idiots on my locale network?
>>
>>59174856
probably rather than looking specifically for verification software you should just use something that works properly to make the backup in the first place
>>
>>59175257

>>
>>59174975
Well yes, if your computer is connected to the internet you definitely DON'T want to use an OS that is no longer getting security updates.

Win 7 will stop getting security updates in January 2020, so you can stick with it until then.

Will Steam OS ever be a windows replacement for a gaming computer?

I use a shitty old laptop for work and I only use my rig for gaming.

(everything but psu/cpu/mobo/ram)
see if it turns on
if it does, add parts back in one at a time to see which breaks it

CPU and RAM are nonessential. Fans will start spinning without both.

>windows replacement for a gaming computer
No, not really.
Unless your "Gaming Computer" is a dedicated machine that only runs games, I doubt it.
SteamOS has been designed for a use case similar to the Xbox and PlayStation, as something that runs on the HTPC behind your TV.
>>

Make sure you have the monitor cable plugged into the GPU, and not the motherboard.

If still no output, remove the GPU, and plug monitor into the motherboard.

I was planning on using part of my tax return to pick up a 4k monitor.
Im an illustrator / photographer and I fucking hate Matte Anti-glare screens, losing clarity and color depth isn't worth it. ( I also never open the blinds in my office, and the lamp i use doesn't reflect off my screens. So the drawbacks of glossy are a non-issue.)
In doing research there isn't much in the way of glossy 4k monitors... at all.
And it feels like OLED / HDR 4k shit will be affordable in the near future, so i might just have to wait.
I really don't want to, but my gut is saying that's the best plan of action.

Unless someone knows of a 4k glossy, good color reproduction IPS screen. eh?

no reason to use steamOS over any other Linux distro
its whole gimmick is that it's supposed to be possible to use with a controller while sitting on your couch
if you want a regular gaming pc instead of a living-room console replacement, it doesn't do anything that you couldn't do by installing steam on any other distro

My gnome-terminal refuses to launch after some period and I've searched and searched but I have no idea what on earth is causing this to happen.

It works fine shortly after booting into ubuntu/gnome but after some time it just stops working at all, I tried alt+f2 to open xterm and it just gives me this error when I attempt to launch it. Changing locale.conf to the default does not fix this and is the usual answer I come across.

>>
>>59177272
Yes, you basically get a preconfigured chunk of server space with a torrent client that you can remote access, usually via a browser page. You paste in links to the .torrent or magnet link, and the client loads them the same as it would on a local computer. When you want to download or upload something, you do that separately, usually with something like SFTP, which should be fast enough to saturate most internet connections.

I have a pretty scrub question.

I've been downloading movies for as long as I've had the internet.

How do you guys watch them on your television?

I always assumed people just watched at your desk but apparently people watch from their living room and shit.

I tried putting it on a USB and playing it from my PS3 but it wouldn't recognize all the file types and the ones that did play would be horribly jerky every couple of minutes.

Do you guys just keep your desktop in your living room then?

How much would a decent deal for a seedbox be then?

That is probably the only real problem here. If it costs so much then I am almost back to having a cheap linux box thingy that can passively download chinktoons all the time.

Seedbox would allow for copyright avoidance so that I could actually download more then anime, but with anime alone I never imagined there being copyright trouble.

echo "C:\Programs\Applications\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" %1 > "E:\Programs\Applications\Misc Scripts\FFMinTask.bat"
schtasks /run /tn "Start Firefox Minimized"

and had the "Start Firefox Minimized" task in task scheduler point to the batch file that is generated here, and run it hidden. (First batch file is necessary because I couldn't find a way to pass an argument to a task in the task scheduler.) Then the first batch file can be run minimized and everything works as intended.

Or, it did until I tried to use this for JDownloader's browser loop, at which point it failed to do anything at all... Fuck. Ah well, I'll just give up and disable the browser loop for now. Let the guys at 9kw deal with slightly harder captchas I guess.

>>

>best economy ssd

MyDigitalSSD and Transcend are the cheapest you can go but they're obviously bad in performance and reliability.

Last time i checked Crucial MX's and BX's were the best for price/performance but performance wise Samsung 9xx are the best, of course if you're limited to Sata3 and mSata ports you wont be using the full speed of these drives since they're made to run over PCI-E lanes.

Avoid kingston V300 drives if you can, they were great at launch, did great at performance/price ratio but then they switched their NANDs chip for some slower ones, without changing the name or the price of the units, so basically bait and switch tactics.

Anyone else encounter this issue?
>>
>>59178843

String phrase = "ShopOne 5000 USA";
String[] words = phrase.split(" ");

words[1] should contain 5000.

Of course that's a lazy way to do it, a much better way its using a regex to search for numeric values.

I'm gathering parts for a PC that I'll be building by the end of this month. I have all the essentials figured out and I'm starting to think about audio now. I'm basically at square one right now and I don't really know what all I'll need to get the kind of sound I want.
I'd prefer to use a quality pair of monitors but I have no idea what I would need to use them. Do I need a sound card? An audio interface? An amp?
I can post my parts list if that matters.

Some speakers are passive, some have their own amp. You can get a simple stereo amplifier, like the DTA-1, if you plan to only ever use two speakers. For surround sound, you'll need something like home theater receiver. The audio output already on the motherboard won't be terrible, but a card or external DAC can often sound a little better.

Don't get "studio monitors" for media consumption. They're made to sound accurate, not necessarily enjoyable, and you pay a premium for that deliberately calibrated flatness.

Should I buy a couple of HDD + enclosure or just buy external drives? At least were I'm from, the price difference between HDD + enclosure and external drives is considerable (HDD is cheaper).

OpenSUSE is good. Otherwise Ubuntu is usually all you need. And then use your computer as a means to an end, and find some ends if you don't have any. Dorks who spend all their time "learning Linux" couldn't pass the most basic Linux certification exams.

You should have a good 2.0 before you look at adding the .1

You really won't be wanting a subwoofer most of the time if you have decent woofers. Those cheap 2.1 systems have subwoofers to poorly compensate for not even having woofers.

Look at "bookshelf speakers" or similarly sized speakers made by real audio companies.

except of course for the internet... and countless courses everywhere
cisco courses you want that deal with topology and protocol
not with ciscso hardware itself

reddit /r/networking go ask how and what and where

with this all being said, you want to feel more confident?
You NEED to invest in to your home lab and play with it.
buy old c2d, setup windows server on it, setup domain on your home network for one or two PCs
play with active directory

buy another old c2d machine, setup pfsense on it, shoutout to /r/pfsense
its a firewall and everything in one opensource, profesional solution
setup VPN, play WITH it,

buy switch that can mirror ports, read boot on wireshark,... sniff your own trafic to find where the problems are in the network..

learn python for even the basic fucking automation

theres so much to do... and it all can be done realatively easy in short time
not deep profesional knowledge, but enough to feel confident that you can outpace some jerkwad who barelly knows what a protocol is

Alright familia

I got a hp envy 13 laptop with win10 and ubuntu dual booted.
Was using ubuntu, restarted, booted windows, and suddenly the sound is not working.
The solution thingy says it doesnt recognize new sound hardware, installs drivers and after rebooting still doenst work.

Then i boot ubuntu and it doesnt fucking work there either, and on top of that, videos play ridiculously fast for no apparent reason.

Headphones dont work either
The light on the "mute" button doesnt light either when muting (wich makes sense since all audio related shit somehow vanished)

Any ideas?
I really dont feel like reinstalling everything

k thx

Can anyone tell me if the following madVR settings are the best for Dell laptop with an SSD, 64-bit Windows 10 installed, an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 GPU, and 1366 x 768 x 60 hertz resolution?

Deinterlacing: "automatically activate deinterlacing when needed (if in doubt, deactivate deinterlacing)". "Only look at pixels in the frame center" unchecked.
Artifact Removal: "reduce banding artifacts" and "reduce ringing artifacts" both unchecked
Chroma Upscaling: Bicubic75 with anti-ringing filter activated
Image Downscaling: DXVA2
Image Upscaling: DXVA2
General Settings: "delay playback start until render queue is full", "enable windowed overlay", "use Direct3D 11 for presentation", "present a frame for every VSync", "use a seperate device for presentation", and "use a seperate device for DXVA processing" all checked. Everything else is unchecked.
Dithering: Ordered Dithering
Smooth Motion: "Enable smooth motion frame rate conversion...only if there would be motion judder without it" checked.
Trade Quality for Performance: "store custom pixel shader results in 16bit buffer instead of 32bit" and "don't rerender frames when fade in/out is detected" both checked. Everything else is unchecked.

If it's relevant, I'll be mostly watching stuff on a 40in Samsung SmartTV hooked up to my laptop with an HDMI cord.

Feel free to also give suggestions for the other options not listed above.

Motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics (asus p6t v2). System is fine, running with an old HD 5870 now. I guess i'll just have to get a new card. The pci-e 2.0 won't be a bottleneck right? Making a very basic text game in Java and I'm unsure of how to structure the classes.
At the moment, the Character class can do lots of stuff, like attack(), pickupItem(), move(), getItemFromInventory() and so on.
Is this the proper way to structure it? Or should I have things like picking up items be in the Item class, and attack() in a combat class?
At the moment, Item basically only has a name for the object and a method to get that object.

Still getting used to OOP.
