When I turn on my computer, the fans spin up for a couple seconds and then it shuts off. If I repeat this several times (20 or so, varies greatly) it will boot ok and stay on indefinitely.

This problem has appeared every winter and disappeared every summer for a few years.

This time, once it manages to boot, it does not stay on indefinitely. It shuts off within a minute or two. Sometimes it gets to the desktop and I can use it for a few seconds, sometimes it shuts down before outputting any video.

So I have a mouse (G400s if it matters) that my cat chewed on a year ago that I tied together with heatshrink over it. Today I thought that I'd improve it by splicing it together with butt connectors since the old job was wearing out. When I got done, it would supply power, but it wouldn't work. So I redid it, but it still won't work.

What did I do wrong? I'm absolutely sure that all of the wires have good connections.

I fucked up /g/. I used EaseUS Partition Master to convert my HDD from MBR to GPT. Now when I boot it brings me to a screen that says
"BootDevice Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
Hard Disk - (3F0)
F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup"
If I press F2 it reboots and I can push ESC for Startup Menu. In Startup Menu I get
"F1 System Information
F2 System Diagnostics
F7 HP SpareKey
F9 Boot Device Options
F10 BIOS Setup
ENTER - Continue Startup"
I can't find a way anywhere to do anything besides test hardware. Is there any way to get back into uefi/bios?

Is it possible for a filesystem on a disk to get corrupted beyond software repair (only solution is formatting)?

the SMART status of the disk returns an OK but the fs got corrupted and was repaired by the OS

The disk was accessible at one point but it's accessible again after the repair (albeit unstable)

I thought an fsck / whatever Winshit uses was an absolute fix for corruption

fsck is just a consistency check. it doesn't attempt to check the contents of a regular file's data blocks, because it would have no idea what data is correct and what data isn't. if it's the data that's corrupted rather than the file system then fsck won't do anything.

I had a problem with my laptop and got frustrated after several days of trying to solve it myself so I sent it in to this computer repair place my mom uses. He couldn't fix it and when I got it back the CPU is slow as hell and it lags when playing 1080p video. What might be causing the slowdown? How do I fix the damage he did?
>>
>>59009173
i had a problem like that a few weeks ago. it was the psu. my computer would just restart at random, no consistency to it. there was pretty much no log other than "windows shut down unexpectedly" (which just notifies that it happened, you can't get any relevant info from it). i got a new psu and it completely stopped.

>>
>>59009752
no, the data's integrity is still in check as far as I know. I don't care because it's backed up but I just want to get a verdict on what's happening with the drive.

the computer will crash even after the OS attempted to fix the filesystem

sfc /scannow returns no problems so it must be repairing itself and corrupting right after

At this point I have a feeling it's the hardware that's failing

I'm going to see what crystaldisk info tells me.
Wmic is supposed to pull data from SMART but I don't know much about it. I fucking hate that I still have to use Windows for certain corposhit

It's true that it's possible to do it for specific users. Mass surveillance is basically impossible in any form because of the storage requirements though. Even Google doesn't have the hardware power to add an entry to a database every time anyone posts anything on any website and then use that data to draw conclusions every time they use a Google service. Even if it was technically possible it wouldn't be in Google's best interests - adwords has been basically perfect using only trivial personal data for years now. They don't need to read your emails or 4chan posts, your Google search history is enough for tailored advertising.

I bet that they give (or more likely sell) permission to route data for certain individuals through surveillance agencies though. There's probably a list of a few thousand suspect people who have everything about them monitored through techniques like that. And if you think recaptcha is scary, think about the Facebook like button - you don't even have to click it for it to give away information about you, since having it embedded in a page will require a request to Facebook's servers.

does anyone have a powershell script to strip x seconds from the end of a video?
I know you can use -t to set a new length, but need a way to parse out the original file's length, subtract x seconds, then set that as the new length for the output. I've got 100+ videos across 8 folders/subfolders, and would rather not have to manually check each one's length.

Because that is how GDDR5, quad pumping is the correct term for what you are wondering.

To leave it simple, your card has 4 VRAM chips on it, every one working at 1.5Ghz, they all can manage stuff at the same time so that would make it 6000MHz.

I am trying to dual boot Mint and Windows 10 on a laptop, but when I install it I can't get the GRUB loader to work. My disk is GPT. In my boot options I can only boot from USB with BIOS, I can't boot from USB with UEFI. Does anyone have any idea why I can't get the GRUB loader to work? I think it has to do with GPTvsMBR because this disc was MBR until I used EaseUS to change it. When I try to use boot repair on a live usb I get an error saying to run the usb in UEFI.

Why do you need this if you're a hobbyist? Most professional photographers don't even need these. And do you have a wide color gamut monitor that allows you to change the color temperature and disable any power saving auto adjustment?

Once you have your workflow down, and use the same printer/print service, then there isn't generally any deviation. So, you know what output those settings create for Adobe and sRGB color spaces. And you don't need to calibrate your monitor if you're outputting mostly sRGB, because you cannot calibrate everyone else's monitors or printers. Most consumers printing at home and consumer photo print services are using software/drivers that are doing post processing as well - you just have no control at that point.

The only point in having this tool is if you are frequently outputting from new camera sources (varying workflows) and your photos are being sent to large scale print/publishing where you would actually having some control over the final output and what the consumer sees.

Programming question.

I'm writing some code that looks at the data of an online game's market and makes predictions of future trends. I've got a load of insightful methods such as "If Item1 goes up in price for 2 days, how often does Item2 go up after that?"Almost all of these methods require me to loop through these items' data.

If I added a huge number of variables and I could deal with the complexity, I could combine all of these methods into one. Meaning I'd only have to loop through all the items' data once. By the time I was at the end, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to read it from top to bottom and make any sense of it, but the question is...

Would this be more computationally efficient?

I've tried purging it and reinstalling and it doesn't want to install correctly. At this point I'm going to blow away the box but wanted to see if anyone else has run into this and how they solved it.

My multi-monitor setup just suddenly stopped working. Now I can only 2 out of 3 monitors to work. The DisplayPort suddenly doesn't want to work. I did a clean install of my nVidia drivers and that got the DVI and HDMI cables to work. I don't get it.

/g/, I did something unimaginably stupid.

I deleted one of my GPG signing keys, which I thought I had no use for, but which I was using for my wallet.

I know the the password for the wallet, but without that key I'm fucked, aren't I?

Anyway, I'm on a btrfs volume, so do I have a chance to rollback some shit?

I'm freaking out here.

I have a Dell Gaming S2417DG YNY1D monitor for my pc and I love it. I don't have a TV or anything because I just use my pc. I wanted to hook in a ps4 to this monitor via HDMI and use the ps4 that way but I dont get any audio. Ive messed with all the settings I can find in the ps4 but don't know why it won't get audio.

1. Why no audio?
2. Easiest way to get audio?

Appreciate any help I feel dumb trying to figure this out

The really funny thing here is that the password for my backup volume was on that wallet. So I'm screwed in every way possible. I won't even have root access on my server anymore. I'm completely fucked. Well, I do have the sudo password because I stored that insecurely in a script, so I might be saved by the one thing I did wrong.

It's actually not that bad. Most of my passwords were stored on the browser. I've only lost root on my servers (still have sudo on the one), which means I didn't really lose too much.

I tried to install dualboot Linux on my UEFI laptop. After installing with the EFI partition mounted to /boot, it rebooted and now only shows the HP logo.
It responds to nothing, external usbs/drivers, any of the keys that normally works, nothing

Any ideas if this can be fixed /g/? Some kind of hard reset?

SSDs degrading is bullshit. How long you have the drive matters more than how much you write to it. You could host servers off of modern SSDs and not wear them out.

Swap != ReadyBoost.
Swap is mimicing RAM, ReadyBoost is mimicing a slower HDD (so it's basically using your flash drive as a mini-SSD)

I have my taskbar set to auto-hide, but when I pull something in full-screen, like a youtube video or Discord, or a video game, and then exit the full screen application the taskbar is then hidden behind everything. I can't move my mouse to the bottom of my screen to pull the taskbar back up anymore. The only fix is to minimize the application and click on my desktop or the task bar to bring it back to the front.

How the fuck do I fix this? It's been nearly a year and I can't figure it out.

I'm in the process of picking parts for a new computer.

Before SSD's became affordable for large capacities, people used SSD's to cache standard HDD's.

I want to do this, but using RAM to cache an SSD instead. I. E. 32GB of RAM, and 20GB of that used as cache for an SSD to speed up loading times for most used programs. Is this possible, and how would I do it?

I'm working with wpf in C#

I'm trying to bring information from one window to a second window using dependency properties. In the first window, I use these lines of code to start up the second window (first three lines are properties). This works, and allows me to access the dependency properties for bindings and such in the xaml of the second window.

However, my issue is that I don't know how to get the dependency properties in the code behind of the second window. Considering I get the proper values in my xaml I assume there must be a way to access them in the code behind, but I can't seem to figure it out

Operating systems already leave program files in otherwise unused RAM. You don't need to do anything unless you reboot your PC frequently. Stop making a means into an end and do stuff.
