I'm looking to get my first real mech. Currently using shitty razer bw ultimate. I'm between Pok3r, Tada68, and Anne Pro with browns as a decent cheap starter. Does anyone have a better ~60% rec?
>>
>>58787584
Do you need some sort of proxy to order from taobao?
>>
>>58787920
Those are all pretty good for how much they cost and how much they offer. Get the Pok3r if you want the one with the best overall quality, TADA68 if you need the arrow keys and Anne Pro if you want something with RGB LEDs. Not sure if the Pok3r has Gateron browns, but the other two definitely do, and they're a lot better than Cherry browns.

>>
>>58788038
Any of the ones you mentioned or a Magicforce as another option. The Anne Pro has RGB and is $80, while a Pok3r RGB is $130 and a bit harder to find. The others all have backlight but not RGB.
>>
>>58787975
Yea I found a white Pok3r RGB with cherry browns which fills most all of my requirements, but it was sold out. Couldn't find it anywhere else. Wish the pok3rs offered gats but I believe it's only cherry. My main dilemma is that there are no available mechs that check all the boxes.

>>58788075
I've considered the MF, but it dropped out of the running because I wasn't a fan of the logo on the front. I may consider it again simply because of the price and availability of gaterons.
>>
>>58787614
The stem shape is essentially the same as the other clear clones out there. The difference in feel comes from the weight of the spring, really.

why are Cherry switches so shit? I never thought I'd buy Topre but it truly has godtier tactility with zero key wobbling.
>>
>>58788286
What makes Topre so different from a rubber dome? I get your feeling, I tend to drift back to rubber despite extensive time MX.
>>
>>58788353
Japanese mystique
>>
>>58788286
As someone who's never used Topre, how is it for gaming? Does it make that much of a difference?
>>
>>58788404
It's perfectly doable, but personally, I prefer Cherry MX (or its clones) over Topre for gaming. Hell, I even prefer blues over Topre. Somehow it feels like Topre is very slow to pop back up.
>>
>>58788554
Damnit. I want something that supposedly feels as great as topre and sounds just as clocky but is actually functional for gayming.
>>
>>58788657
Matias Quiet Click and zealios are great imo. But Topre is perfectly functional even for competitive FPS as long as you don't double tap a lot. If you want to go the tryhard route, might as well get reds.
>>
>>58788353
I tried a topre in Japan, and it felt exactly what it is: rubberdomes with spring

Logitech K200

This will be my first mechanical keyboard purchase. I really dug the Anne pro but from the looks of it, it only came in 60%
>>
Hey dogs.

I peck at the keyboard with two index fingers. I haven't used a mech kb but imagine that if I do, I'll be bottoming out because of the amount force I hit the keys with. As such, I was interested in MX Blacks or Reds, but people complain that they are not smooth. Besides Gaterons, what should I consider?
>>
>>58789786
Forgot to add:

Budget $175
USA English ANSI 100%
Definitely no backlight.

Have only used rubber domes and Dells like this one:

>>
>>58789786
get blank caps and learn to touch type, you will be as fast as before in a week, probably doubling your speed in a month.
Gateron browns.
>100 %
don't do this.
>>
>>58789912
I type 70 WPM without trying very hard. No hunting, just pecking. An advantage of sticking with pecking is that I don't need a split or ergonomic keyboard to avoid contorting my wrists.

And I'm sure I want a numpad for calculator use and other numerical typing. Functionality is more important to me than meme size.
>>
>>58789160
So why do people rave about them so much? There must be a difference or that'd mean people are paying ten times more than what they should on rubber domes.
>>
>>58789971
i can toggle my second layer faster than you can move your hand to your numpad, i doubt any fullsize keyboard beats a fully programmable keyboard in functionality.

On those 60% keyboards, is it common for the toggle/function button(s) to lock? I.e., I need a one-handed numpad, directional keys, and home, end, pgup, pgdn, etc without holding down a fn key.

I have always dismissed small keyboards due to this but I should've probably looked into this.

It would be important to achieve this without software due to wanting to use the keyboard on locked down work computers. Important but not absolutely required.
>>
>>58790266
dunno about other firmwares but yes tmk lets you control whether fn keys are momentary on or toggle on

truly programmable keyboards work via firmware changes.
for example the ergodox, gh60, lets split, minivan, dactyl...
i set one of my layers to toggle and one to push, so i have mouse movements and a numpad on my toggle layer, but this is fully up to you.
i personally have all the things you describe on my ergodox.
>>
>>58790266
And ideally I would use numpad etc on the left hand only.

This is getting pretty specific so I know I'll have to do some research, but if you or anyone knows off the top of your head I'd appreciate it.

I'm starting to warm up to software-based remapping and macro type stuff.

>>This is getting pretty specific so I know I'll have to do some research, but if you or anyone knows off the top of your head I'd appreciate it.
this is really easy to do on a programmable keyboard.
takes like ten minutes to customize your layouts. and flashing is literally just make, teensyloader, pushbutton. i like qmk personally, tmk is not that far off. i just recommend using GNU/Linux or at least some GNU/Linux VM for the firmware part, windows makes things difficult.

Wait wait wait so Topre feels exactly like rubber domes, yet people spend hundreds of dollars on HHKBs. So are people actually overspending on something that could be 20 dollars or is there actually a difference between rubber dome and Topre that justifies the price?

>>

Yes, but if I recall correctly it's a hassle and requires modifying the case.
>>
>>58790967
That's annoying. If only the Infinity version didn't have the issues it does and had the option for a nicer case like falbatech and profet offer
>>
>>58787080

You shouldn't have fallen for the mechanical artisans meme in the first place and learn to make shit by yourself.
You could've DIY'd a few cables for the price of that one.
>>
>>58788286
You'll get over it soon enough. I had a HHKB for a year and a half and I sold it. It was really great at the beginning but it just becomes boring.

After that I built a custom 60% for around the same price of a new HHKB and it's so much better. And the thing with cherry, if I get bored with one switch, I just replace the stems or springs and I get a "new" keyboard.

Well you can also switch sides, but if you want both sides to be separate keyboards it gets a bit more complicated, like with the infinity.
it depends a bit on which case you use. but for most cases it works. maybe you could ask the falbatech people if they can make a switched case.

Rosewill browns will be your best bet for that budget although see if you can find a Dell AT101W keyboard. They have black ALPS switches that are similiar to Cherry Browns and you can modify them if you want to make them linear instead of tactile. Most are around 20 bucks on ebay or less if you can find one in a recycling center or thrift shop.

>Diamond arrow key arrangement instead of WASD
>Eject button on the keyboard???
>>
I'm considering getting a 60% keyboard, but I'm miffed by the lack of arrow keys and function keys on most of them. So a coupla questions:

Do any of the following exist? (dont care about switches or price range for now)
-Numeric keyboard with arrow keys
-80% with arrow keys on left side
-100% with numpad and arrow keys on left side
-60ish% with function key row

I found this keyboard (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=96) but it looks kinda funky.
>>
>>58793760
well the HHKB is fully programmable with qmk so if you don't like those button placements then change them
>>
>>58793760
...eject cd maybe? Who fucking uses fn keys anyway. Fake arrows will never fill the void in my heart.
>>
>>58793822
60% have all those on a function layer, and the programmable ones like pok3r let you rebind them however you want. If you need a dedicated function row then get something like the noppoo choc mini
>>
>>58793865
>function layer
why do I feel dirty every time I hear that?

The choc mini looks okay though. Now I think about it, I can just use the numpad as arrow keys if I really want to. And I was going to bitch about macro keys but I guess that has the same solution, just dump the responsability onto the separate numpad. Feasible right?

I'd love to just saw off the right side of my keyboard and replace the switches with mechanical ones. If only.

Hello peoples,
I'm looking for some purchase advice. I need a blue switch mechanical tenkeyless or full tenkeyless preferred that has raised keys like
>>58792354
for easy cleaning. I've used Daskeyboard and really like the high build quality and metal body so something similar would be great. No budget really just not stupid expensive ~$400 stuff. I'm in America so Amazon or pretty much anywhere is on the table for sellers. Thanks in advance for the advice.
>>
Can anyone recommend a keyboard like the MasterKeys Pro S but better or of same quality? I've had to replace my first one because it would randomly turn off sometimes and now my replacement seems to keep disconnecting and connecting back but not working unless I re-connect the wire, not sure if this is because of a tiny coca-cola spill (as in one little dot or two on the keyboard from a splash far away) or the cable being a little bent (the head). I asked for a new cable but if they refuse I'll ask to refund as this keyboard is giving me too much trouble.

also, does the 'all 45g' thing make that big of a difference? i can't find one with the keypad on it that's only one kind, and i need it for work

Nice, thanks for the lead. So they're kinda like Fujitsu Peerless? To be honest, for the price the guy is selling it I might as well get an actual Model M, or some alps clone. If it's just a regular old dome with slider it's definitely not worth the price.

Good evening fellow autists and /g/entooman. I humbly request your suggestions.

>Budget
Anything less than $185

>Location
United States

>Preferred switch type
I think I would like to use browns unless someone has another suggestion

>Form Factor
The super-minimalist keyboards with no wasted keyboard space that some of you guys have look really cool, but I prefer a full keyboard with a numpad. I'm not set in stone on it, so maybe a tenkeyless would be okay too

>Backlight
Either with or without no hard preference

>Previous/current keyboards
I had a keyboard with cherry mx blues but I ruined it a few months ago and have been using a cheap spare since. I liked the blues but I don't want the sound this time aroud so that's why I think I want to try browns.

Thank you anons!

Need some help here I'm looking for a very specific keyboard. I need tenkeyless with cherry MX blue I don't care if it has LEDs or whatever but it needs to have a flat base for easy cleaning like the pic I can not find a single keybord that matches this description please please help.
>>
>>58799945
Not that guy, but there is far more personal-preference to switches than anyone on 4chan will ever admit.

Some people prefer red for typing, some people prefer blue for gaming. Buy what you want.

Personally, I have owned Red, Brown, Blue, Topre 55g, Model M, and a variety of rubberdome. I currently use the Topre 55g at home, and the Red switches (with o-rings) at work.

Now if you need fast double-tapping, then a light linear switch like Red is objectively best. However, I play shitloads of games, and the only time this has been an obvious difference to me is while playing Unreal Tournament since double-tap is dodging. I have had no issues playing anything else on everything from reds to buckling springs.

Having said that, IMO I think the best all around choice is Topre 45g. Not too light, not too heavy, actuates before you bottom out (unlike regular rubberdome), not too loud, suble tactile bump, keys will never develop chatter. The biggest problem with Topre 45g is that compared to Cherry or Model M, the typing experience is much closer to a cheap rubberdome. Although there are objective improvements, the subtlety means that the high cost of a Topre board doesn't feel worth it by comparison.

If I could go back and start all over, I would buy 2x Topre 45g (home, work) and be done with it.

>>58800490
Those are usually called "floating keys". Don't really know much about decent ones in order to give you a recommendation, but try searching around with that, or maybe some other anons can help.
>>
>>58800490
If you want easy cleaning, just get a keyboard with floating keycaps (and there are plenty)
Perhaps a Magicforce could work.

thanks for the info didnt know the term still searching with no luck im finding a lot with knockoff cherry switches but none real blues
>>
I have a cherry mx brown switch keyboard and I don't really like how the switches feel(they seem mushy and gritty). For my next keyboard im thinking of either gateron blues or browns. Are gateron browns different enough to get me to give browns a second shot or should I just go with the blues?
>>
>>58800705
I think there are some gaming branded ones like that, but I don't really know if they're any good. Finding one with Cherry switches might be hard though. You can get a Magicforce, a Tomoko or a Noppoo Spyder Lolita for cheap, but I think they all have Kailh switches, except the Magicforce, which you can find with Gaterons. The Varmilo VA87MR also seems very close to what you're looking for, but I'm not sure where you can find one right now.
>>
>>58797691
Looks kinda like a futa switch.
>>
>>58800743
Gateron switches in general are a lot smoother than Cherry ones. Gateron blues are quite a bit louder than Cherry blues though, so you might want to stick to Gateron browns, which aren't rough like Cherry browns.
>>
>>58800759
yeah the Varmilo VA87MR would be perfect but of course i can only find it on mass drop ;.;
>>
>>58800775
So would you say that the two gaterons have the same feel but different sound? Or different feel too
>>
>>58800799
Looks like you can buy them directly from the official Varmilo store on Taobao: https://world.tmall.com/item/531228425879.htm

You might need to use an agent, but it's an option if you don't want to wait for another possible GB on Massdrop.
>>
>>58800817
You mean Gateron browns and blues? They're like the Cherry ones, with browns being tactile and blues being clicky, but they're smoother, and the Gateron blues are louder, but apart from that they technically work the same way.
>>
>>58800835
lmfao I wish I could into runes I would be kinda scared about international shipping anyways probably expensive as hell although budget isnt really an issue.
>>
>>58800864
The keyboard seems to be about $90-110, plus you'd pay probably up to $20 for shipping, which doesn't seem that expensive all things considered. You can use Google to translate the page, and I think there are agents that help you with that too.

ALRIGHT I'm at a crossroads here. My regular Shine 6 came with the full size keycaps from the YOTM edition for some reason, which was a nice surprise.

Also came with a voucher for a free set of PBT keycaps.

Pretty happy with it so far.
>>
>>58813527
It's a shame the keyboard isn't fully RGB because if they had options other then a solid back light I would have bought one
>>
>>58813543
>Also came with a voucher for a free set of PBT keycaps.
That's because they advertised the keyboard with PBT keycaps, but they changed them to ABS last minute. I guess they didn't want to get in trouble or something

I can't say I wouldn't mind full RGB either, but I feel like having full RGB at the top would look it too much like some chink gaming board. I like the unique aesthetic it has with the RGB case and the white light on top.
>>
>>58813621
Its made by Ducky so it already is a chink gayming board

I guessed as much. Can't complain though, the board that I'm replacing with this one was also a ducky, they make good keyboards, nice to see them do interesting things with keyboard rice.
>>
fug

blues on my ducky are actually sort of getting in the way of gaymen

looks like browns are what i actually needed
>>
>>58809957
Did you piss on the keyboard? The model M case is made from PVC and it shouldn't yellow that badly.

Have any of yee bought GH60 kits from aliexpress?
Are they worth it or is it better to order GH60 PCB from ebay and buy the parts separately
>>
Topre is a waste of money

>>
>>58814342
Just get the plate and case then hand wire the whole thing together
>>

either parts or falbatech.

Try to get it with Gateron reds instead, which is cheaper and better than Cherry. It's not that expensive though, considering the one with Gaterons is $62.

"The set is newly manufactured by GMK in Germany with the original Cherry equipment. GMK is known for using high quality materials to ensure longevity in its products.

This is created with Cherry’s original double-shot molding equipment using the highest quality ABS plastic."
>>
>>58815558
As long as the EnjoyPBTs won't fade (at least for a long time) then I don't think I can really justify the difference in cost...
>>
>>58815558
"The Modern Beige is a mix of modern and retro style keycaps. Using bold and bright legends, Mod Keyboards was able to show their work through their dye-subbing job. The beige is true to the classic colors.

The keycaps are molded by Gateron. The quality of the PBT is one of the more higher quality that is done producing thick Cherry Profile."
>>
>>58815558
oh their website still lists gateron, but if its gmk then that means the sub legends are some of the worst pad printed keycaps out there for high end keycaps

Well I prefer a more minimalist look of something like a Ducky One. The nice thing about ducky is that the media keys are programmable so I moved them all to the numpad on layer 2
