Here's the unfortunate truth.
Never ever buy a phone with a processor that isn't produced by Apple (Ax), Huawei (Kirin), Qualcomm (Snapdragon), or Samsung (Exynos). They're the only reputable process manufacturers. Qualcomm is generally speaking a shitty company but unfortunately they're the dominant ones in the android market.

As for your question specifically, Snap652.

sup /spg/, my G4 got bootlooped so I got stuck with an old, trade-in Galaxy S5 until May this year. This would be fine if it weren't for the insufferable battery life. What can I do to remedy this, besides buying a new battery for it (which I already did)?

Yes $157 is the cheapest price at the moment ($158 for the special edition), it's worth it paying more for the extra ram

Zuk Z2 or Xiaomi Mi5? Is the Mi5 worth the extra? People keep saying how the z2's screen is oh so terrible and stuff but at least through videos I don't see anything wrong with it.

My brother told me that if you leave it for some days, for some reason it will boot and allow a few minutes of access. I don't know how reliable it would be to flash a stock image but you should be able to extract data you need in that time no?

Also anecdotal so I dont know if it will work for you.

ZUK Z2
>cheaper

Mi5

>more custom roms (inc. official LineageOS build)
>>
>>58721653
Nobody knows yet so just get the SE
>>
>>58721695
Oh it would do that for me actually. It would turn on for just a moment. Was able to get pictures and downloads off at least. After that I did try to flash what I believe was stalk, but I guess it didn't work because AT&T are fucking assholes. Any other carrier it seems you can flash fine or root, but not AT&T. Not gonna buy directly from them next time. Will just get an international unlocked model. Whatever I flash, I guess it wasn't stock and it probably didn't work right either. One reason I loved my G2. If I ever had a problem I could just flash it brand new. Maybe I should start using it again.

But yeah I think it's bricked for good now kek. I don't think LG really repairs it either. They just ship you a new or refurbished phone instead.

Is the Zuk Z2 pro really worth the price difference with the plain Zuk Z2? It's almost double the price, yet the 821 processor isn't really that much faster than the 820, and an extra 0.2 inches doesn't do much for me. Does the pro have a better camera or build quality to justify the cost?

You could also wait for the next iteration when it comes out later this year.

Does anyone know a familar similar between the Zenfone 3, Axon 7, and Mate 8, but with a removeable battery? Been looking at all those but I'm trying to see if I can't find one with the battery. Still haven't seem to found one yet because I want good headphone sound quality. I think there was one or two I looked at that did have a removeable battery but the quality dropped. So I need a new phone, my primary requirement is that it ABSOLUTELY has to receive Android updates as fast as possible. Security is my #1 concern. I'd also like to use Xposed once it's available for Nougat so one that I can update after rooting would definitely be preferred (if I have to flash updates that's fine, as long as they're available quickly)

I don't want a shit phone either. I don't care about storage or SD card but build quality and a replaceable battery are important to me.

Can anyone help me out?

So does anyone know what causes the bootloop problem with LG phones? Thinking of getting the v20 international. I assume it's probably able to be rooted and have custom ROMs. If it ever bootloops I could just reflash assuming it's a software issue. But I was wondering if it was also hardware too.

None the less.

>Requirements:
Removable battery
Able to root without Chinese botnets
Good on music via headphones
MicroSD
I guess USB C too

Prefer to keep around ~$400, I realize the v20 is like $600, but I might go higher.

My threat model includes bad actors attempting to exploit public vulnerabilities against this phone. As long as it's running the latest version of Android then this is satisfied, or at least satisfied in the sense that I will know that when vulnerabilities are found they will be eventually fixed on my phone.

I have an iPhone where my threat model includes state actors, but I have android backups that obviously aren't compatible with this phone and I don't have the choice of not using them. I require a second phone so that I can use these backups.

I'm super unsatisfied with the battery life on my Nexus 6p, getting about 4 hours of screen on time since I got the damn thing over a year ago and yet that's only when I am using the phone for 4 hours straight, this thing will drain like hell if it's not on airplane mode while the peers around me who have the plus model iphones do not have this issue. I want to buy a Xiaomi, but jesus christ there are so many of them and all are similar.
Specifically I was looking at note3 (SD650), note 4(mediakek) and redmi pro.
I logically assumed that note 4 is better than 3, but as far as I can see it isn't, the benchmarks are pretty much the same, SD has better ROM support, and it's more battery efficient, at least on paper it has a better camera, 16mp against 13mp.

Let's run down the list

Android phones let you:
>have real encryption with no backdoors
>download over 100MB over mobile data
>install a third party app launcher and icons
>use it as a flash drive
>share any kind of file over wifi/bluetooth
>torrent via torrent clients in the playstore
>install apps outside the playstore
>modify a few system settings to increase performance and decrease battery drain
>manually control complex camera functions via third party apps
>natively browse files
>view better colors via amoled displays
>browse 4chan and natively open webms inside them via third party apps
>extract/browse archives
>add additional phone storage via a micro SD card
>replace the stock battery with a bigger one
>add widgets to your home screen
>access important functions by swiping down

ALL WITHOUT HAVING TO HACK YOUR PHONE

You can spout all the "lagdroid XDddd---" memes you want but Android phones truly are more advanced than itoddler phones and the reason why they hold over 90% of the global smartphone market share right now.

You couldn't have said it better. iPhone hardware is miles beyond even the best Android flagships, but the software ruins it to the point that I'm forced to settle with Android. I just bought a Galaxy S7 because my S5 screen cracked. The S5 is still usable but it's just really ghetto looking.

Should I return the S7 and wait for the S8? Or should I buy a cheapo refurb S5 to hold me over?

I'm on Verizon with unlimited data. The S7 doesn't allow simultaneous data + phone calls....? Or is Verizon's HD Voice supposed to fix that?

What should I do? I almost bought a Moto G (4th Gen) to hold me over until the S8 but I read a lot of bad reviews of them on Amazon.

Will I be upset at myself if I don't wait for the S8? The S7 does what I want, so I don't really care. Unless the S8 has a removable battery.

Keep the s7, I doubt the s8 will be good

Switched from a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on contract to a Redmi Note 3 Pro SE (bought outright).

The contract on the Xperia is about to run out and I'm being offered upgrades. I'm torn between switching to a cheaper SIM only deal and then upgrading in a few years or just getting an S7/S7E.

What do?

US
T-Mobile

Require:
Screen ≤ 5.2'
USB-C
Fingerprint Sensor
NFC

300 USD or less, third-party (amazon, ebay) are fine.
Pokemon Go.
Custom ROM support

Preferences:
3000 or more mah battery
great camera
32GB internal storage or microsd slot

Was looking at the Nextbit Robin but not sure if they'll be around when I actually NEED this. I have a Nexus 5X currently but I'm considerably worried about the bootloop train.

I don't have a backup phone if it decides to seppuku... that's mostly what I'm looking for.

Oh yeah, extra requirement, NOT LG.

Alright guys I am looking for something to replace my aging S4, has held up well but the small battery doesn't last very long. The features I really want are:
>Some fast charging.
>A good battery.
>Screen around 5 inches.
>Physical home button.
>1080p screen or above.
>Lineage or other AOSP rom support.
>USB Type-C would be nice, though isn't required.

Looking at this for around 200-300 dollars.

I've got one of the Tracfone Galaxy S4 models that can't be upgraded past Android 4.3.

Do you know of a simple way to manually get the newest version of Android on it?

>>
FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU LG
>>
>>58735914
Okay let me rephrase my stupidity; my Galaxy S4 is one of those Tracfone ones that simply isn't allowed to upgrade past Android 4.3.

Is it a good idea to use Odin to flash the phone to the newest version of Android (7 or higher)? Do you know if there are any requirements, such as having to root the phone? And for that matter, will all of this even work?
>>
I am loving my 3T, but it's still got that fucking wallpaper problem every phone i've ever owned had: when I pick an image for a wallpaper, it doesn't give me the option to crop the section I'd like to use, and defaults to the centre of the goddamn widescreen image. At least my Zenfone gave me the option to tweak brightness and opacity, any good apps around this, or is there a native setting I'm overlooking?
>>
>>58733955
I'd say Pixel for android, and of course the newest Apple shit, but that's mainly because they have the newest toys. Give it a few months for the new Snapdragon to come out, and they'll start rolling out the next wave of flagships.

The Zenfone and the Oneplus3t seem to have nice metal bodies with the same processor as the big names, but stuff like Samsung with give you the fancier shit like 4k screens.

Do you really want the thing to be loaded for bear, or do you want to take UI into account?
>>
best smartphone under 400$? refurbished >iPhone 6s is standing at 380$ and seems like a good deal
>>
>>58733042
The only new phones that you will notice a stark improvement over your current one still cost about $500, anything cheaper will be better, but much less noticeably so.

And if you want stuff like fingerprint readers, or that android pay stuff, that is also mostly exclusive to the high-end domain.
>>
>>58732875
Can you still root Kindles to run android for an e-ink tablet, or did they either fix that, or make them native tablets these days?
>>
>>58736386
While I'm at it, is there a confirmed-accurate colour calibration I should set it to? I fiddled a bit with the custom setting, but some things still look a little too saturated. It might be that I'm too used to using F.lux on my desktop and having a shitty phone screen, though.
>>
>>58736426
>pixel
The capacity isn't great though. At least the iPhone comes in 256 gb. I would say the UI is more important. Streamlined UI can run more smoothly than more powerful phones with shitty UI.

Hello /spg/

Know that I never bothered learning about anything smartphone related since I never had the need for one.

requirements:
screen-size range from 4" to 4"5 (mostly something not gigantic)
long lasting battery
can be used as a phone (ie send sms)

preferences:
that USB-C thing is pretty nice
can run the steam appli si I can sold my 0.04€ card(the reason I want a new phone)
eventually micro sd port
if it can easily install cracked application it's a plus, though not necessary
I live in France and currently with the SFR carrier
budget range from 0 to 150€

My current phone for references:
