Don't really now where to ask, so i ask here. I need 2.0 speakers for my desktop. Budget is 150€, meaning EU.
It's important that they are not sensitive to the location of the speakers since my desk is next to the wall and so will be the speakers and that they do not need (pre) amp of any kind.
In terms of sound, i like the DT880, X2's, some Boarsemen chinkos and i do NOT like Bose (bass is too bloated imho).
I just want something to listen music during work, mostly rock, classical and some laid back electronical stuff and sometimes a movie, no gaming.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Yeah go farm upvotes there with your gear photos. Some tips for BTFOing audio people online:

1. Mention how much you spent on that(must be in thousands otherwise equally clueless people won't be impressed)
2. Tell others who disagree that they are poor or at least impy so
3. Use "you haven't heard it" as an argument when they aren't
4. Use "you have shit hearing" as an argument when they have
5. Weasel out from explaining how any of this crap...

>"These impressions are extremely preliminary; both players have barely anywhere near the recommended amount of burn in on them (about 3 hours on the DX200 and 25 hours on the WM1Z, and yes I do hear differences with previous DAPs being burnt in; iBasso even includes a burn in cable with the DX200). Listening done with a Lime Ears Aether and a PWAudio 1960s 4 wire cable, directly into the 2.5mm jack of the DX200 and to the 4.4mm jack of the WM1Z via a balanced adaptor."

...makes any sense whatsoever beyond on how you subjectively think they sound in a non-bias controlled sighted listening test aka what you are doing now.

I have about $280.

I don't believe in burn in and I've tried it with good headphones. I believe that ear pads change shape slightly from use and that's what causes any slight change in the sound. What full size headphones do you use? hd600's are the best I've tried so far.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 250 Ohm

looking to get a closed headphone alternative of them, because I live in close quarters now, and I also can slightly hear everything going on around me.

Are the Dt 770 pro 250 ohms a good closed headphone alternative to the 990 pros? Main difference would be the soundstage I guess, but as long as the bass is nice and I don't have to worry about hearing other people talking around me, i'm fine.

Thank you!

My only experience has mattered is dealing with guitar amps which feature much larger drivers, and even then the difference isn't huge. Just use your gear and enjoy it, it'll burn in that way too.

Older headsets don't matter since they were pleb-tier from the local shop for 5euros or something. Can't even remember them.

Marshall monitors

Also, what about the mic? I'll probably do some gaming once in a while, chat with people so a good one could be nice. I could get a headset but I don't really know if I should since I stopped gaming for a while now.

hm5's are great but for me it's either the hd600/650 pads or the k712 gel pads. The 600 pads aren't anything special but they feel nice and it's the shape, plus the way they sit around the ear that makes them great, once the band has been stretched a little obviously. They're way too tight at first.

>Need low impedance for listening through phone
Don't associate impedance with suitability for lower power devices. You need to factor in sensitivity. T50RP's are 50ohm and you won't get anywhere close to listenable level on a phone, yet HD600's at least come close at 300ohm.

Sony's MDR-XB series are fucking niggbass god tier if you want to take a look at them.

>>58697842
A3 isn't a DAC. Just an amp.

Get a Schiit Fulla 2 unless youre planning on upgrading in the somewhat near future. E10k does what it needs to do fine but for the extra $25 you get a fair bit more in terms of features and power. Save and go for the E10k if you just want a simple 'USB in analogue out' and dont need any of the line shit out or extra power the Fulla 2 has.

Not really. Get a pair of headphones for music like 770's, and then buy a pair of Superlux 681's and slap some velour pads on them. Seriously. Bought a very flat model, do you think I can bring back some bass by EQing?

Tried these two but I'm not feeling it. My low-end phones did a much more decent job of shaking things up. I could feel my ears shaking, and that felt nice.
>>
>>58698082
Yes EQ it. In fact, one of the purposes of buying flat headphones is that you can change your EQ as your preferences change.

But when you are doing EQ, especially if your songs are loud (close to 100% volume), you need to do it by turning everything DOWN other than the bass, and then just turn up your volume knob.
>>
>>58698082
>do you think I can bring back some bass by EQing?
Yes.

Though EQ can't work wonders, it'll sure get you a fair way. You may want to just buy a different headphone all together.

My last pair was AKG K553s which were great for gaming but lacked any kind of punch in the bass to make them fun to listen to. Using backup Superlux 668Bs right now.

In my case, I wanted to step up my game a bit, but this was the only option available in my price range (Sennheiser HD 461).

I think I'm getting somewhere with EQing, I can feel it pump a little, but knowing I'm not using it on default makes me uneasy about messing things up.

Besides, the sound is definitely better, just not as "fun" (I think I finally get what reviewers mean by that term).

Yeah, basically you should try to NOT put any of those sliders above 0.

You can always just turn your volume UP; but if you boost already-loud audio, you'll clip it and fuck up your sound.

Try everything ≤100Hz around 0dB; and then everything higher than that, put at maybe -6dB

I need help buying a DAC to plug my headphones into my TV (or PS3).
Headphones have an impedance of 60 ohm, frequency response 15hz-28khz, max. power is 600mW, rating power(whatever that is): 200mW
Does any of this information matter for choosing a DAC? Does the DACs sampling rate matter?

>budget ~30€ unless you think I HAVE to spend more
>optical out on TV to analog headphones
>need to control volume. Will an extension cord with colume control be okay?
>need 3.5mm output
>unaltered sound, no bullshit features needed

There's just so many options. Should I try to go for optical to 3.5mm directly or could I buy a converter that outputs cinch and then use a cinch to 3.5mm cable IN ADDITION to the extension cord with volume control without it affecting my sound negatively?

Will shit like this do?

Oh, I reproduced that exact same graph but with peak at 0dB, sounds fine, but maybe a bit low. If push comes to shove I can make it into a +2 peak instead and find a middle ground.

000(...)-6-6-6-6-6-6-6 felt too muddied by the bass and not as pumpy.
>>
>>58698420
60 ohm is the only thing that really MATTERS a lot per se. Everything else is just "how far into the inaudible do these go on either side"

Optical STRAIGHT to 3.5mm will be your best bet if you want unaltered,
HOWEVER,
something that does "virtual surround" might provide better 7.1 to stereo downmixing (with regards to spatial positioning) than the game's native stereo, so that's something to keep in mind.
>>
>>58698481
smooth the curve a bit, maybe?
I doubt
Or look up your favorite headphones' frequency response, and duplicate that? Look up some existing bass EQ presets?

Remember to just treat the 0dB like a "maximum"—you lose nothing by shifting everything down 4dB vs risking clipping by boosting any given range. There is no advantage to having positive values at all there.

So like if you saw a preset online that was 2/3/2/1/0/0/-2/-2, just decrease all of them by 3

does anyone else get a thumping sound in their ear from wearing closed headphones?

these were my first set of closed ears and from the start i wasn't totally comfortable, it felt to me like a vacuum was in my ears. which i guess is the desired effect, but i didn't really like it.

but i got used to it and now that doesn't bother me, however i've noticed an unpleasant thumping sound and twitching muscles in one of my ears. i don't know if they're related but i'm putting two and two together.
i definitely do not listen to music loud enough to give me ear problems.

i'm just scared it's the onset of tinnitus, but i'm only 23 i can't get it now.

thing is when i'm wearing the headphones with music playing the twitching doesn't happen.

maybe there's just somehing in my ear doing this.

No amps, it's just the other phones were kinda low because of all the bass. Same impedance.

So, does this look good enough? I am not even sure if it's placebo anymore, but this feels more familiar sounding now, although the bass (the only thing I miss) is weaker than with my earlier tweaking.

Not sure if this EQing is a good idea also because I'm trying to emulate the problems/gaps in frequency I had with the previous one, no?

Thank you.
Do you have recommendations for me?

>>58698743
please don't use the foobar stock eq
>>
>>58698698
Thumping is probably your hearing picking up the blood pumping in your ear. Maybe get your blood pressure checked? Though it may just be your body being weird. I can hear my jaw muscles keeping my jaw shut and my neck upright when I've got nothing playing and I'm wearing my DT770's. I can quite easily pick up my heart beat when wearing IEMs.

Hearing body sounds is nothing abnormal with isolating headphones and IEMs. It won't cause tinnitus. Things that will are genetics/loud noise/infection. Just hearing a sound won't do shit.

I've had tinnitus ever since around 16 years old from infection. Aint fun. Just be careful with loud volumes and wash IEM tips once in a while. Enjoy your music man.
>>
>>58698743
Sorry; I meant to invert the difference between the headphones you have now, and the headphones you liked before

>graph both the headphones' frequency responses together
>record the DIFFERENCE
>e.g., this one is 3dB LOUDER @3kHz
And apply it inverted:

If your new headphones have LOUDER e.g., mids, then you'll want to have the mids somewhat CUT

And if your old headphones had 120Hz 4dB LOUDER than your current ones, then you'll want to BOOST that frequency by 4dB

So it's like a compensation curve

but since you're making it, you don't have to include things like holes that you didn't like about your previous set
>>
>>58698743
Lmao why are you trying to replicate a frequency response for a headphone??

Thank you very much! I'm the same with researching stuff. Such a hassle to get anything done at all...

Anyways, apparently the PS3 doesn't support sound card drivers - why would it? - but this somehow still works, or does it? Looks like the guy in the video only plugs in the microphone and checking on my PS3 'Audio Device Settings' only seems to refer to microphones, not headphones.

Something else I thought off/came across: I could use the AV Multi out. It's already analog, just need an adapter and a volume control. Anyone here know if there's a direct AV out to 3.5 adapter? I suppose not since it's Audio/_Video_ right?

Man, am I glad the PS4 controller has an audio jack. Such a godsend.
>>
>>58699341
I don't think any of those will offer a substantial bass improvements over the 550's.
Have you considered just EQing?
>>
>>58699664
EQing doesn't fix headphones that are broken in half.
>>
>>58699683
I should also mention that I did order a pair of Dt770s earlier but I sent them back due to a defect.

I loved the isolation and the comfort but I was worried about the soundstage. I remember playing a game that has elevated footstep sounds and remembering getting a paranoid feeling because the character was right below me but it felt like he was right next to me.

K553s would probably be good with bass for EQing but the fit would be a little loose, and I already have an issue with headphones on my left ear when it comes to getting a good seal, due to the way my jaw is shaped.

I have no experience with the Audio-Technicas so I was wondering if it was really worth it to dabble in the $200+ price range of headphones, even though the guide says that's the "diminishing returns" range.
>>
>>58699683
You can forget about the MSR7
The Beyers don't look THAT bad if you want something bassy. I'm not sure how the soundstage is on them.
I can't seem to find the FR graph for the 553s, but I think they seem to be your best choice if good soundstage is a must
>>58699727
Did you try to bend the headband on your 550s? you can increase the clamping force by a decent bit and gives you a better seal. I imagine it's the same for the 553s
>>
>>58699765
Uh, no. I'd had them for about 2 years. The wire got caught on my office chair and then I stood up suddenly with the headphones on.

Literally the only thing I don't like about AKG is their refusal to have replaceable cables or at the very least coil their cable.

The thing that bothers me with the Dt770s is that reviews either go from "great soundstage!" to "mediocre but okay for closed." And since the ones I had a serious defect, I couldn't really make a judgement on my own.
>>
>got HD650's today

DT990 250 ohm

My dt990s left driver died after the first year. I got it repaired but it broke after a while again and now the right one stopped working too.
I liked them but I'd like to try something different. I though about getting HD600s but they're a bit too expensive.
I'm looking at HD598 now but I'd like to know if there are any other options I should consider.

Trying to find some headphones below 200€ that'd still benefit from the O2 amp. I heard HD598 do benefit from an amp but they are only 50 ohm.

I've been using my m50 for about three years now

I already switched the earpads, but the pleather on the band is starting to crack

Is there anything that I can do or I'll just have to buy another pair when it eventually rips apart?

IEMs are usually lower quality and tend to break faster than full sized
I'd suggest these
http://www.mixup.com.mx/Mixup/detproducto.aspx?sku=615104185777
The cable is 3m long but it comes with a cable winder you can stick in your pocket, so it wasn't a big deal at least for me.
I used these daily for nearly a year and worked fine. I've had them for almost two years and still work to this day. Great build quality on a pair of 20$ headphones.
I haven't personally owned these
https://www.amazon.com.mx/Monoprice-108323-Acoustic-Studio-Detachable/dp/B007SP2CO2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485720380&sr=8-1&keywords=monoprice+dj
But also read good things about them. A huge bonus is removable cable so they will last you a long time. You might need to buy something else to get free shipping though, as these barely don't qualify for it. Comfort doesn't seem to be great with these.
For IEMs in that price range I really don't know anything that isn't disposable shit like Sennheiser IEMs.
Maybe something by Xiaomi. I've hear the Piston and the Hybrid are well built and within your range

Samson SR950 (Better comfort)/Superlux HD 669 (Detatchable cable)

SR950's have better comfort than the 669 since it has a nicer headband and velour pads. The 669's have a detachable cable but will need replacement pads for better comfort.

I'm primarily listening to metal, and the m50x sounded muffled and crap with the highs and mids. Pic related is what I can replace them with. Any good ones in there? I've seen the dt770 recommended for metal a few times, but can anybody confirm that or is it just a meme?

Can I get some help finding pads for MDR-MA900s? I found about 10 authorised sony part retailers, all are out of stock, decided i might as well try a new set of earphones instead.

Bought K712 pros, but I shave my head and the band is super uncomfy, and there's plastic rattling every time i move my head, so I want to try and return them and swap back to my (currently) pad-less ma-900s
>>

https://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2
The RCA ends go into your Magni and the 3.5 end goes into the back of your motherboard/sound card.
>>
>>58703517
DT 770's are a heavy V-shape, whereas these are quite bass light. Might not be the best change, though you might be after that.
>>
>>58704858
They're essentially DT 770's with less highs and adjustable bass. Upper mids are slightly more scooped.

Stock pads aren't great but theyre not awful. Also the stock cable is garbage. Microphonics out the ass. I replaced mine with a cheap $2 dollar cable off eBay which completely fixed the problem.

I've got ZMF Sheepskins on mine. Super comfy non fatiguing headphone.

Also, don't get the plus version unless you want to pay more for different swappable side plates and headset type boom mic cable.

The detachable cable is a huge deal for me since I'd rather spend 5 bucks on a cable than another 150 bucks on a new set of phones. Does an amp make a huge difference or is it like most headphones where an amp helps, but they work just fine without?
>>
>>58712881
>Does an amp make a huge difference or is it like most headphones where an amp helps, but they work just fine without?

No, an amp doesn't do much. Theyre low impedance high sensitivity. Even though theyre fullsize beyers, they seem to be designed for portable use. Run perfectly fine off my laptop and phone, though I use my Schiit Stack anyway since i cant be fucked switching the audio playback device in winblows.

I don't get the point of the angled pads. They seem way thicker than the non-angled ones, so wouldn't that be bad in every situation?

IEMs if you treat them like shit and stash them in your pocket like the retards over at amazon reviews usually anywhere from 4 to 7 months
If you take proper care of them usually longer.

>>58714512
Yeah, Pro 80's/Hyper X Cloud Cores aren't exactly built for larger heads. You may want to return them and take a look at Brainwavz HM5's. Theyre not built quite as well but have a larger headband size and much larger cups and pads. Otherwise some HM5 pads on your Takstars may be an option, though that kind of adulterates the headband issue even more.

>>58714575
Depends on your use, environment and which headphone.

My Beyers have lasted over a decade, and my Sennhesiers have lasted over 7 years now. My K612's have lasted for about 5 other than the elastic losing strength.

Hey, /hpg/. You're all experts--can you tell me why the removable tips for moder earbuds ever came into vogue? Earbuds before seemed to work perfectly fine, and I can see no difference in sound quality now that they all have removable tips. It strikes me as having served no purpose save to create a perpetual market for replacements, as they seem designed to come off in pockets and just generally disappear at a steady pace. So why were they ever created, and why did they catch on? Is it just a scam which became industry standard, or what?
