I linked the FC980C because I couldn't upload the images.
I think it's my favorite layout of a Topre keyboard because I don't need some of the navigation keys and incorrect legends bother me.
Pic related is why I'm using a blank normal HHKB instead of my lubed Pro JP.

Got my new keyboard today

Using Cherry Browns, was gonna go Clears (which i still might get a board with Clears later if i fell like) but hey decided on Browns as it was cheaper. Feels really different than my laptop keyboard which i am use to but it is nice to know that all the key presses registers. Also i am really liking the minimalist design of the keyboard with no over bearing company logo.

The foam wrist pad is great as well

well there is your first problem

Building and all that jazz is about risks and learning from your failures, and you will fuck up and which is why you should scavenge parts from the dump or local offices and stuff. The point is don't buy anything if you don't need it until you know you won't fuck up

Any rubber dome aficionados here?

We're a small group of individuals boldly going against the grain in striving for tactile perfection. We prefer the gentle, organic feedback of a rubber dome over the robotic, cold click of soulless mechanical keyboards. The feeling is gentle and intoxicating - like typing on clouds. And best of all? In comparison to mechanical switches, rubber domes are almost inaudible.

Keyboard manufacturers prefer selling mechanical keyboards because they're much more expensive. They line their pockets with the money of clueless consumers who are unaware or simply do not care for an alternative.

I hope there are like-minded individuals here. Perhaps we could have daily rubber dome keyboard threads where we can share photos and anecdotes about our devices. It's important that we stick together, us, users of these particular type of input devices. We have much in common.
>>
>>58646758
>tfw fellow eurofag
Playing with mech keybs is indeed a rocky road. You can't just buy and resell keyboards until you find the right one for you, cause nobody wants to buy them, every country has its own retarded layout and nobody likes us/ansi. Only razer/corsair have a small market cause they're heavily marketed to gaymers, but even my little brother sold his blackwidow cause it didn't have accented letters.
>>
>>58647273
Oh sorry. I remember know. Yeah k65 comes in CMX Reds only. Happy hunting anon.

I unironically prefer decent rubber domes over mechanicals (at least over Cherry MX switches).

And decent rubber dome keyboards can be had for less than $20.
Pic related, for example. I wish it was more compact without the media keys and all, but still.
>>
>>58647419
Side printing would be just fine, for me. Last thing I need to decide is whether I get black or white base.

Black base contrasts the blue better, and emphasizes the LED too.
White base may get dirtier but it looks really really clean.

I think if more rubber domes looked like girly accessories and had autistic features like easily switchable caps and pointless layouts, a lot more people would realize they're not nearly as bad as they think.

When a mech autist starts talking about rubber domes, you'd think he only ever tried a $5 keyboard before he splurged $120 on a trench warfare simulator.
>>
>>58647647
given that you can build your own mechanical to the point of soldering is all together and choosing your own layout, I'd say mechanical is far ahead for me. Rubberdomes also feel nice, though.
>>
>>58647752

Well if you're sitting there soldering your keyboard, you're clearly not a poser who heard he has to own a mech to be a special snowflake.

I'm addressing two things that are a side-effect of the resurgence of mech keyboards:

1) Mentioned snowflakes.

2) The fact that there are no rubber domes that don't look like shit, so some people will buy a mech for its looks alone.
>>
>>58647794
Customization is nice and if you built it yourself, even better. I think that's what rubberdomes are missing. Give use easily assembled and relatively cheap rubber dome parts/switches and I'll give it a go.
>>
>>58647010
>>58646993

/g/, I had a really weird dream.
I dreamt I bought some cheap mouse + keyboard combo but the keyboard looked real cool with lots of color coordinated keys and aesthetic symbols and stuff. It was white and orange and blue and it just looked real nice. The mouse was some clear garbage I didn't care about because I already had a nice mouse, but I wanted the keyboard.

Then something happened. I don't remember what, but someone ended up bending my keyboard out of anger so it looked like that weird microsoft curved keyboard only smaller and still colorful.

So then I went back to the store to rebuy it, but I just wanted to buy the keyboard because I didn't need two cheap mice I wasn't gonna use, and the girl there was kinda cute and giggled and said something...and then I woke up.

I fucking want that keyboard now. This post reminded me of it. I think I made it up in my brain buy maybe I can find a keyboard similar, I have to look now.
I have to.

tl;dr this is what I vaguely recall the keyboard looking like, do you know of any keyboards that look like this? Similar in any way?

I'm looking now but there's literally thousands of keyboards to look through so any help would be appreciated.

Damn. Posters like you are a diamond dozen. You know, it's not difficult to have an aesthetic sense, but it's kinda tough being actually aesthetic. If you can't deal with it, get out. It's a doggy dog world here.

The aesthetic movement is only about beauty: weather something is or isn't aesthetic. It's not hard to comprehend. It's not rocking science. If you really can't grasp such a concept, your out of our league.
>>
>>58649190

At best, you're abusing a dead meme which was only excusable and had a context in the bodybuilding community.

At worst, you're an underage tard incapable of just saying "beautiful" because you're a special snowflake. So you appropriate "aesthetic" instead and proceed to use it wrong.

You can be snide about it and beat around the bush all you want. One day you'll be ashamed of yourself and what an idiot you were. You'll cringe your heart out.

Hmmm, as silly as that sounds the big ass orange enter key is kind of a hang up for me. I'm having trouble finding any keyboards at all with that kind of enter key. I guess it's just a relic of a bygone age at this point?
International ISO style has a similar one, although kind of upside down.
I might just have to give up on that part.

I've never bought a mechanical keyboard before so I'm a bit in the dark for what the best kind of keys for me would be. I play some games I suppose but most don't require heavy use of the keyboard. I do a lot of typing though.

I was thinking maybe blacks. I'm somewhat clumsy with big fingers so I manage to hit a lot of unintended keys at times, so having a key that has to bottom out to be activated would be nice. But then I also type a lot, so I was also thinking either browns or white.

i just got a ducky one for my birthday, i love it so much

but just as a note to all of you guys who are seriously anal about your keyboards

it would not sit even on the table with around 1mm of wobble room until i engauged the stubby and full sized legs for the first time

also the longer legs needed considerable force to snap down from their origional upward folded away position

other than that the keys have a nice slick and soft feel to them and the keypress is exellent

i opted for the cherry mx blues

i like the look of the keys and how adjustable the backlighting is

my only gripe is i wish instead of a light gray color for the key labels i wish they coulda made it black with the backlight being the only way to see the key label

What would you suggest I go for instead? I was getting a bit fed up of the colours, I think I'd get around $1000 for this all together.

Interested in getting a better mechanical keyboard and figured this was a good place to ask

>Budget: Somewhere around 100$
>Location: North America (USA)
>Preffered switch type: From what I can read, blue or white
>Layout: ANSI
>Form Factor: 100%
>Backlight: Red, or RGB
>Current Keyboard: Cyberpowerpc stock keyboard. I would like something not as wide as this hunk of shit.

Any help in picking one out would be appreciated.

Qisan with Kailh Red switches. i want a cheapo red switch tenkeyless

Yes, those are pretty popular around here for being cheap and pretty good for the price. I think there are Gateron versions available though, which is even better than Cherry switches.

most RGB keyboards have a gaymer aesthetic with unnecessary edges and large bezels.
Ducky used to make minimalist RGB keyboards, but now the make gaymer garbage after they released the shine 6. If you don't mind TKL then get a One, if you want full size then get the shine 5.

Now if you don't care about how your keyboard looks then get some chink knockoff like this

MasterKeys Pro L should fit that, but it might be a bit more than what you have for a budget, since it's $140 on Amazon right now, but the TKL version is $100 if you're okay with that. Ducky is another option as the other anon recommended with the Shine 5. Pretty much every other RGB keyboard looks like gaming garbage.

if you want full size check this out: https://www.amazon.com/Glorious-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard-Minimalist/dp/B01D8YNJH0

it usually goes on sale at 80$ the cool thing about it is you can switch out the switches if you want in the future. I would have gotten it myself but i dont like red back lighting, but since you do, you can wait for it to go down in price again if you want
>>
do i have to desolder to install zealencios?
>>
>>58654615
No. They just clip onto the top of the switches.
>>
>>58654640
ohhok so just pull out key and then slap em on?

are they worth or just a meme? using chink abs
>>
>>58654683
They certainly make the board noticeably quieter, even on the upstroke. If making it quieter is your goal then go for it.

Bought a bunch of Mod L switches to replace the cherry reds on this one keyboard I have. One of those rare bluetooth mechanical keyboards which I love functionally, but not pleasurably.

It's gonna be a pain to desolder and then solder in the new switches, isn't it.

I hope you're ready for a lot of tedium.
>>
>>58654713
just saw that thank anon. they're pretty expensive... lol using a magicforce68 with gat browns and abs chink cap, which i assume to be gateron brand.

might give oring a shot first. Will o rings make the key feel heavier?
>>
>>58654860
No, at worst it'll make the bottom out feel mushy.
>>
>>58646987
I don't care for sound or aesthetics (i got one in beige) but I do like feedback. I think this is going to be the mecca. MX Greens were the heaviest i could find and I love them. spring keyboards supposedly have a higher weight (?) point.

I know most people don't want to type on a typewriter for hours but I have short, stubby, strong hands and it just suits me well. Good to know you have to clean them. The mechanisms did look more complicated than MX cherrys, i.e., more of a bowl than a stump.
