If you have a picture of your watch being worn from a straight on angle, please feel free to post it along with your wrist size, diameter of the watch and lug-to-lug of the watch. Because it comes up so frequently I'll try and compile a small collection of images of wrist-size and lug-to-lug length combinations that can be used for reference, rather than simply telling people that they should be looking at smaller watches.
If you're not sure how to measure your wrist, you can take a flexible tape measure, or just use a piece of string and wrap it around your wrist, then measure the length of the string required to circle your wrist.
Wrist size should be in inches, lug-to-lug and diameter should be in mm.
Thanks.
Example image of a straight on photo with measurements recorded.
I'll look to compile these images into some sort of easily browsed format or master images.

About fake Rolex watches...
>>58634698
>why do you assume this?
>everyone's heard of Rolex, but most people who aren't into watches are not really aware of fakes.
I do not assume but you do not have to trust med. Simply search the net for, say, "number one fake watch" and look over the results. Also on WIki:
>Rolex counterfeits are illegally manufactured replicas of Rolex watches. Rolex watches have often been more susceptible to counterfeiting compared to other luxury watches, due their brand enjoying the highest worldwide awareness and ubiquity of their design trademarks (for instance, the Rolex Submariner has inspired plenty of imitations from both higher-end and lower-end legitimate watch makers).
>>58634937
>If you're entire social are plebs.
Quite to the contrary. As a patent attorney I get to hear quite a lot about it, though I do not work on such matter myself and also obviously cannot use replicas myself.

If your wrist is sub 7 inches (but imo even above that), then 34 mm can be totally fine. Especially with the new jumbo cases which make them seem way larger. Men's watches used to be 30-35 mm for the longest time; and the 34 mm air king was worn by RAF pilots etc., pretty cool history. Today's huge men's watch sizes are a dying fad.

So guys; Seiko SBDC039 (Transocean) or Tudor Pelagos LHD?
Seiko:
+ 3k cheaper
+ less boring to look at (dial texture, polished surfaces, design, etc.)
- low-brow movement
- not as prestigious
Pelagos:
+ better movement
+ more prestigious
+ a bit higher quality (fit&finish, titanium, etc.)
- more boring in certain ways (matte everything)
- four times as expensive
>>58644633
A close-up of the dials.
Seems to me like the Seiko would be more interesting to look at, because that textured dial always looks different depending on the conditions. And also the polished surfaces everywhere.
>>58644633
If you can accept the lugs on the trannyocean then you should go for it. I know those are a deal breaker for me, but the watch looks very good. I would go with an MM300 or the(/a?) spring drive diver personally.
>>58643546
Lots of marketing
Quality of a product doesn't matter. Look at shit like mvmt and daniel wellington selling at a 1000% markup.
you wear it directly on the wrist bone?
>>58645001
No.
>>58644633
Gotta remember, the Transocean is 44mm.
Plegaos is 42mm, which makes all the difference, seen as 42mm looks off on most people to begin with.
>>58645203
Well actually, the bezel diameter for the Seiko is 43mm, just 1mm wider than the Pelagos.
The actual case of the Seiko is 44 or something, but that's hidden behind the bezel, which visually defines the diameter of the watch.
The Seiko is also a bit thinner than the Pelagos, and a lot less blocky.
>>58645303
I think you'd be best trying on both if possible. Check Tudor's site for dealers, and see if there's one near you, that way you can see how the Pelagos feels on your wrist.
I think you'd be happier with the Pelagos in the long run. Even then if you decide a few years later to grab a transocean, it's a minor investment compared to getting a pelagos later on.
>>58645329
>I think you'd be happier with the Pelagos in the long run.
For some reason I think so too.
It's more muted and matte, but also more subtle yet still distinctive.
I'm looking for a smaller watch, preferably 36 or 34mm, with a simple dial.
So far the one watch that fits my criteria is a vintage oysterdate, from the 70s or 80s, I think, like pic related.
They're around 1000$ these days I think.
I haven't actually done any in depth research about buying old relexes so can you give me a few pointers, such as what to look for or what to avoid?
Oh and is it easy to service?
Any other suggestions of watches would also be appreciated.
>>58645374
You could buy a new oyster perpetual 34 or 36
>>58635037
nice mechanism... really nice actually
>>58645388

>>58645374
If you're looking at vintage, there's so many options it's not even funny. Just try searching any old American brands. Bulova, Hamilton, Benrus, Elgin. You can also search vintage Seiko or Swiss brands.
This is 34.5mm advertised on chono24. Just a simple 3hander with alarm function.
Which is worse guys:
1) "the collector"
>always buying new watches to get that passing honeymoon buzz and fill that gaping void with shiny inanimate objects
>can't part with any of them, and they rot away in his closet
2) "the flipper"
>always buying new watches to get that passing honeymoon buzz and fill that gaping void with shiny inanimate objects
>constantly selling off his watches after a few months
Sure, the flipper gives his watches a chance at another life with someone else, but for some reason the flipper strikes me as the more mentally unsound of the two.
Or simply the poorer of the two, putting him in the "30k millionaire" faggot bracket.
It goes without saying that anyone owning more than 2-3 watches (dresser, beater, super beater) is a faggot, no matter how rich he is.
>>58645437
there's nothing wrong with that second thing, that's just someone who wants to experience different watches without hoarding, while also getting some money back
"collector" is more likely to be poor if you ask me
also there's nothing wrong with having two dress watches and you're a faggot

>>58646217
Not panda dial, but the junghans max bill chrono's movement is based on the 7750.
>>58644633
Unless you work at a big accounting firm, I'll go with the Seiko.
>>58646217
>loves her husband
>gives him a valjew movement
>>58644633
I'd go with the Pelagos. I like it's understated look and it doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME AND MY EXPENSIVE WATCH". Plus the movement is significantly better. Just by a cursory glance between the two you can see that the Tudor movement is Rolex-tier in quality as it has a free-sprung balance, a balance bridge instead of a cock like the Seiko, and a Breguet-style overcoil, all of which are high end horological shit that's hardly ever seen (if at all) on anything less than $5000. This is all further reinforced by the Pelagos being a certified chronometer which is a huge bonus considering it's price.
Even in general the Pelagos is a very unique watch that does it's own thing both within the Rolex family and even compared to every other diver on the market. The Seiko is generic as fuck and the designers took no risk in their creation whatsoever.
Plus I honestly think the Pelagos is going to be a huge collector's watch as Rolex has been making Tudor an actually interesting and unique watch company for the first time in their history (even Hans Wilsdorf didn't do shit with Tudor).
>>58647103
The Pelagos also has a silicon balance spring.
>The Seiko is generic as fuck and the designers took no risk in their creation whatsoever.
I wouldn't say that; the design is pretty out of the ordinary with those "lugs" and that bezel that's entirely made of ceramics.
I do like that the Tudor is low-key. Especially the LHD.

google it and see what they sell for, don't go off their msrp discount. only bad thing about that watch is you can't read it in the dark.
If you had ~$8-9k to spend, which watches would you get? Pretend you already have a Speedy Pro and a $1k diver as a beater.
>>58653488
8-9k spare dollars that were never needed again?
>>58653488
JLC

>>58653488
Grand Seiko SBGH001 or a JLC Geophysic 1958 or Geophysic True Second.
>>58653488
I'd probably buy every seiko diver
>>58653610
wtf is that ugly shit?
>>58655016
Poor man's apple watch
which watch gets the most attention out of your collection?
Swing lugs, God's gift to wristlets.
300m get.
>>58655553
This, if only because I'm just being paranoid over my other (considerably more valuable) pieces.
>>58655593
Wear your watches out you puss!!!!
>>58655557
Reminds me of the black bay bronze.
>>58655626
I'm wearing the group b right now actually. It's just that the memesplorer gets the more wrist time than any one of the others.
>>58655641
Sad! What a low beat... 21k?
>>58655664
It's 4hz m8.
>>58655641
>group b
that's not really that much more expensive. thought you meant in the thousands. wear it more you puss!!!!
>>58655675
plus you have two 9015s. wtf. you're just scared.
>>58655593
that looks good.
>>58655675
Don't worry m8, I do make an effort to spread out what I wear.
>>58655714
what's that, less than a grand. and you don't wear it? sad! puss!!!!
Should I try to regulate my 7s26 to more than +6s/day? I don't own a timegrapher so it's long periods of testing and a pain in the ass
>>58655740
Just told you I do wear it m8, enhance your calm.
>>58655759
When you say "more" do you mean to be even faster, or do you mean closer to 0?
Because it is a budget movement, positional variance is probably pretty high. What is it getting in each position now?
>>58655759
7s26 is +45/-35.
>>58655802
about +4.0 with the crown up, +5.4 when worn and +6.7 with the dial up, haven't tested other positions yet. And of course I mean closer to 0
>>58635218
Looked it up, looked promising then saw the price, FUCK.
>>58650367
15400 blue dial? Nice, where are you and how much did it end up costing?
>>58653600
Been looking at JLC and VC lately in that style. Looks bretty good.
Heading to HK in 2 weeks, really tempted to take a look at nice watches there and maybe buy something. Anyone know what prices are like compared to NA? Used to be the best place to get a Rolex, now Canada is cheaper.
>>58655990
>now Canada is cheaper.
Really now? There is a rolex AD near me here in milkbagland, might have to take a look.
>>58656018
Yeah, where in Canada are you? I'm in Toronto. Rolex here can be pretty heftily discounted as long as they aren't the fuckin BLNR GMT, Daytona C and Sub C.
>>58655990
I went to a Rolex AD in Canada and Submariner and Milgauss were in the ~9300 range.
>>58656054
Well the AD that's nearest to me is raffi jeweler's in waterloo.
>>58656117
The Raffi here refuses to give out nice deals, but they're in Yorkdale. So maybe the overhead rapes them. Worth the drive to Vaughan if you want deals, Damiani is good.
Looks pretty good on H Link
>>58656242
You're so insecure you went out and bought the h link?
>>58656148
Wish I knew how to haggle at an AD, but I'll keep it in mind, thanks.
>>58656249
I didn't like the leather because of my odd wrist bone, kinda sat on it weird!
I appreciate your concern about my mental health but I can assure you I'm not insecure. In fact, someone at my new job had the H link so I thought I'd give it a go. His wasn't for the 556, seems to fit well
Is the only reason you sit in this thread to try and troll people?
>>58656250
I enjoy it, when you're ready to buy I'd love to help.
>>58656250
Talk to them and make them feel like bitches. Talk to one, tell the next about their best price.
>>58656281
Did you buy a Sinn because the guy at work? You wanted to be seen as equal? Sad!
>>58656316
Haha good try! You're a sneaky one! He doesn't wear his sinn to work but we had a nice chat when he saw mine. We talked about the one he had (300 something or other? Not sure) and then the bracelet came up.
Any more questions?
>>58656242
Wow that's a really minimalistic laptop what brand is it bro

I know this is a dumb question, but where do you /g/uys usually get your watches from?
>>58657486
I enjoy buying in person from an AD.
>>58657486
I've gotten all my watches from Amazon and longislandwatch plus a shitter from eBay.
>>58657142
What did he mean by this
>>58656688
>that awful hand alignment
>>58654207
Dont do it, the GS are too thick, not to my taste. I like Seiko a lot but I think they need to fix this thick shit business in their GS line.
>>58654207
>JLC Geophysic 1958
also this watch has the tick and its entry level cost, get the master control man. Dont fall for the filler watches in the lineup.

And then maybe a Grand Seiko, or a Maison Celadon, a Black Bay... Something like that.

>>58655641
>someone in /wt/ has a group b

>>58656242
I'm not a fan of that bracelet. It doesn't look "strong" enough for the watch, with those overly rounded corners in the middle links.
>>58657392
>>58657168
that was such a bad product placement.
>>58660008
Mostly because I don't have a good camera, so there are much better pics out there, but here m8.
>>58660002
It's a modern re-release of a vintage.

It's just weird, comic book nerds doesn't seem to be the demographic to preach JLC to
>>58660107
>sexy as fuck watch

>>58660107
that case is so fucking perfect. thanks anon
>>58660220
ikr
still too expensive for me as a student but i just love it
>>58656688
I'd rather swap a bezel than swap hands, a dial and day/date wheels, and get actual waterproofing with it. Also I want a smooth bezel that actually rotates, with a little arrow on it and some lume.
Pic related (>>58660220) is the rough idea. Though I'm now considering just painting an arrow rather than adding a lume pip.
>>58660366
Is this your first day on this thread? Some anon frequently posts some "diver's watch specification document" and goes angry about how people customize dive watches in ways that don't make them "diver's watches" anymore. He is, I hope, just trolling, though I've seen such genuine autists over watchuseek which I frequently stumble on when searching shit, but then at least don't take things so seriously and have a laff there chap.
Also is there anything that isn't "reddit" these days? I mean, most of us wouldn't know because we don't actually go over there, but there's always this guy pointing fingers at everyone who seems very knowledgeable on the matter.
>>58660366
how do we get trash like this out of our wonderful threads?
do we all mass-report him?
we've got to keep the /b/, reddit, tumblr and /pol/ filth out of our threads you guys.
>>58660776
How about you post watches and ignore the DOGSHIT.
Pic related, watches. Still waiting on parts for the quartz, and the Komandirskie's mainplate might not be salvageable. Good thing I have like four spares.

>>58660901

please.
is the st19 a robust movement, or will my watch break in no time?
also any recommendations on valjoux 7750 panda/reverse-panda chronographs?
I really want an affordable and nice looking moonphase dress watch for my collection and preferably quarry since I won't wear it everyday and it will keep the price low.
I should be looking for Seikos, right?
I just saw this one on eBay for 99€ shipped but the seller also accepts offers.
Dies /wt/ approve? And in that case how much should I offer? I kinda like the look of it.
If it's shit I will look forward to other suggestions.
>>58659650
>>58659657
The JLC Geophysic 1958 does not have the deadbeat seconds complication. The True Second does and I actually quite like the irony of it.
>>58661452
There's always the Orient Sun & Moon, although it's not a true moonphase. But it's automatic & affordable.
>>58661898
But I want a real moonphase and even though I prefer mechanicals I think It would make sense to have a moonphase Quartz watch, since setting the moon phase very time you are gonna wear it must be a pain in the ass.
My coworker just handed me this and said "what's the story behind this"
>>58662115
MAN ON THE FUCKING COMMAND MODULE
>>58662115
Gmt masters were made for pilots. The red hand stays at GMT (reference time for pilots), the normal hands at your local time zone. The bezel can help track another time zone.
