They're secure when it comes to things like phone theft, and keeping your data contained within your device and shit. But, they cooperate with governments globally (a lot of them blackmailed blackberry lmao), so your shit ain't safe from governments and your privacy is basically nonexistent in that view.

You get me?

>>58621863
HTC is supposed to be announcing their Ocean (HTC 11) sometime soon, probably around MWC or whatever. Same with Sammy, Sony, Blackberry, and whomever the fuck else.
MWC is unfortunately near the end of february.
Here's what I suggest.
Get an iphone or a pixel. Whatever. Use them on your vacation and what have you. When MWC rolls around, and you love one of the announced devices, you can sell the phone (or return it depending on how lenient the return policy is), and get you one.

>>
>>58621995
CM still has google analytics, so no.
You'll probably want to look into http://www.replicant.us/ and phones that work with it.
https://copperhead.co is another possible solution, although it's a bit more lenient than replicant is when it comes to proprietary shit.
https://microg.org/ should also help you replace google services in a FOSS way, but again you're ultimately still sending some data (although with microG you can explicitly decide what)

Blackphone is a lot of hype that I don't think is worth it. Realistically all that it's doing for the most part is stuffing your data through their private VPN. If you really wanted to, you could go entirely custom with a nexus or whatever and use a VPN of your own that you trust.

>>58622020
Personally, I'd go iPhone, but that's largely because I don't really use headphones. Either one is a great option though.

Can the IMEI number of a phone change/be changed? I got a phone off some probably shady refurbished phone seller on eBay. The device has problems on hardware side and I'm trying to return it. They are asking me what the IMEI number is. When I got the phone I did flash a few different official firmwares on it, but i didn't unlock the bootloader or anything. Will they be able to see that from the IMEI? I can't tell if it's a ploy or they keep such bad track of their inventory.

I didn't write down the number at first or anything so I don't have a clue if it indeed has changed or not.
>>
>>58620353
Her heels are triggering me
>>
>>58622163
IMEI doesn't change. IMEI is related mostly to hardware. Think of it as a unique identifier for every single device. This way when devices are stolen, manufacturers for example can just blacklist those IMEIs.
>>
Does the BQ X5 Plus get any love here?

Seems to be future proof, 5" so just the right size, and not as expensive as a Pixel.

The OnePlus looks good to me but the 5.5 is too big for my hands.
>>
>>58622315
No because it's missing bands and only a 652. It just doesn't compare to the OP3T. If you're OK with chinkphones might as well go with a xiaomeme or the zuk z2 or something of that nature and save yourself 100 euros.
>>
>>58622402
>652
What do you do with your phone that a 652 is not sufficient?
>>
>>58622315
The BQ is the only phone on the market right now with Galileo support
and BQ's firmware is very clean. Literally just AOSP + 1 a non-obtrusive support app.
No bloat like Samsung or Sony have.
>>
Been looking around for a new phone for a while now and I want to order the bq x5.

You need a waterproof phone because your hands sweat?

Yeah but it's illegal in many places and they can't change the actual IMEI listed on the hardware device itself (usually on battery or box or wherever manufacturers want).

I'm talking SWEATY.
My last phone got a deadzone on the touchscreen. I hadn't done anything to it. I was just on the train using it to listen to music when part of the lower half suddenly stopped responding. My hands were really sweaty at the time so maybe it got into the cracks.

The Nexbit was a great deal when it was selling for $139 on US Amazon. For 180€, not so much.

Z5 a thousand times, as flawed as the SoC was it still packs an SD810 over the budget mediakek shit of the XA, has better camera and records in 4k, has a fingerprint scanner in most places (everywhere but the US and some europoor countries), already got the nougat update and it's just the right size for a smartphone, the XA is a 6.1" monstrosity more suited for dumb women interested in looks over functionality that can't/don't want to spend 800 burger coins on a fruit phone, hence the size, design, entry level specs and good front camera.

I've been using the same Galaxy S2 for over 5 years now, just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from. The screen on the S2 is starting to flicker out. Otherwise, it's always been rock solid. Original battery, still kickin'.

>5.1.1/6.0.1 touchwizz
I looked it up on wikipedia, but I still don't think I know what TouchWizz is. My phone is a T-Mobile version. Does that make rooting it and roms more difficult? My S2 is Virgin Mobile which, according to some old-ass posts on message boards, makes it extremely easy to brick.

>>58626729
Pretty sure it's snapdragon.

I was thinking of getting a Samsung J7, but for just a little more, I decided to get another flagship and hope it lasts a long time like my S2 did. That was advice from this very board when I asked for advice a couple weeks ago.

Phones with snapdragon 810 overheat, don't.

I wouldn't buy the next sony compact phone unless they go back to the latest snapdragon (821/835), 2/3 GB of ram, water resistance and a 720p screen all in a 4.6" body, the X compact had no water resistance, not even splash resistant and used a budget snapdragon650, fair specs overall but that's not what made the compact line famous.

My grandpa has one of those and even though he has dropped it a lot of times it's still in good condition (only a small scratch near the usb port), so good in fact that i've considered getting a sturdy chinkphone and swapping phones with him with the excuse that phones need to be discarded properly and not stored because they'd blow up.

How's the camera on it? I used a moto x 2014 for a while and that thing, if the lighting wasn't the sun pouring directly down on it, it'd be grainy and likely couldn't focus. Otherwise, the photos were acceptable.
For a 2014 phone, is the camera any good? and is there a manual mode for it? if a phone over or under exposes, it's nice to be able to dial that in. Same with focus, but for a phone from 2014, that's prolly asking a bit much.

Moto G4 or Huawei P9 lite or maybe Samsung J7 2016 but probably not Samsung J7 2016?

G4 and P9 is pretty similar and I like both designs for different reasons but because of little things like slightly better price, unfortunate speaker placement, unnecessary sensors sending your fingerprints straight to nsa, no fast charging, no glass protection, shiny HUAWEI inscription I'm leaning more to G4.

Battery life is pretty much the only thing I like over the others for Samsung.

Any major reason to get one over the other (like bootloops)?
>>
>>58629407
I might take a break from being a moto fanboy for a while. Sad that I've been with them from Razr to Moto G LTE.

How come I've never heard of nextbit robin? Is this a Chinkphone
>>
>>58629427
G4 is your best bet, motorola always get a shitload of third party support whereas huawei doesn't because chinkirin processors and budget samsungs are very unpopular.

Is there any reason not to get an iPhone SE? I'm coming from a Nexus 4. I want something that's similar in size or even a bit smaller. Most of what I'll be using it for is web browsing and the occasional Youtube video. Don't really care about customization. Heard it has a good DAC and camera as well.

Battery is erratically draining fast. Sometimes it's okay, sometimes it drains until 0%, sometimes it drains until it decides to stop.

Other than that it's a gud solid phone... for 6 months. Amazon variant has some bloat and ads in lockscreen but it's easily patchable. The latest update brings them back though and has no patch atm. It's announced it will receive Nougat next month but who knows.

We're talking about your dad.

Xiaomi Mi 5 is good too. The others have inferior specs.

I had one for a while too. I broke the back glass twice and I the camera imo is a piece of shit. Way worse than the one on my current 5X, not even close. Other than that a good little device though. Great battery. Would've kept it but I got bored fixing it.

thinking of going back a smaller phone and if I will it'd be an X compact. You can get one pretty cheap in EU. It got meh reviews but it works, not as fragile as the z3c and doesn't overheat like the z5c. Supposedly the camera is better but I'll believe it when I see it. I've tested a z5c a camera and that was trash too.

It's a computer anon, it works by sending stuff for the CPU to eat and outputing memories, starting from the MBR and working its way up.

What is even the point of these phones being this thin. Do they expect me to shuriken somebody with it? I have a protective case on my 3T and I still wouldn't exactly describe it as "thick". It also encases the camera lens so it doesn't stick out in that silly way. If the phone was three millimeters thicker they could have had it inside the body, just slap a curved back on it and they can still have their thin edges

Considering this, should I go for it ? I want a phone that works, has maps, some basic apps, is waterproof and durable. I am tired of using my phone too much. This would keep me away form it.

If the screen looks good for your eyes and there are no pixels visible from a normal POV, then that's a good screen overall.

I have a Samsung J7 Prime and people say the PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen(Corning Gorilla Glass) it has is not good. The screen size is 5.5in and I read a lot, and the screen hasn't let me down getting my eyes strained nor anything. The pixels in my J7P are only partially visible if you are like 2 cms away from the screen.

>Do you have any friends?
Good question. Yes.

>How do you keep in touch with them?
Another good question. I'm more of an extrovert and I think I'm good enough with this phone even tho my friends mock at me for still having this phone. I obviously don't use whatsapp or any other messenger app. I either email them or contact them through Facebook through my netbook.

Dear friend

I wish you happy new year! Please give 5 stars.

What /g/ thinks about UMI Z? Worth shekels?
>>
>>58648142
UMI is a company known for being shit. I have one, it's good but no fix of software problems and updates are dropped once they release another phone, it seems they only have one group of software engineers that focuses on the current phone.

How would I go on about changing an S6's IMEI?
>>
need some help.

dropped my redmeme with the charger in, and when i picked it up it wont recognize any of my chargers, even if its switched off, plugged into usb or to the wall.

what do?
>>
>>58648604
Why would you want to do that?
>>
>>58620353

Need a new smartphone, needs to be tough, needs to be sprint.

Im on the sero 500 premium (employee plan, long story), so i get two year contracts at a great price, hence why only sprint.

I had an S5 sport. Two years, no case, held up like a champ. Screen finally died today, right after i made my final payment, yes, my tinfoil went crazy.

Phone is beat to shit anyways though, time for an upgrade. Was going to wait for sprints next "tough" phone, (sport 7 it seemed, but idk anymore) but i cant now.

Looking at the HTC bolt. Seems pretty skookum.

Any thoughts? Im from /k/, can repay with random weapons knowledge.

Bought the phone from shady source.

Now paranoid and I'd rather use it as wireless device without sim card.
>>
>>58648635
Replace the usb port, parts are available on aliexpress

Read:

Bought for cheap from friend.

Not sure if he's thieving scum so now I am paranoid but I'd like to keep the device as a wlan device without having to worry about tracking.

If it's not possible I'll return it to him tomorrow and ask for my cash back.

What does a rugged phone do that a normal phone with a rugged case won't? Also the HTC Bolt is trash

>What does a rugged phone do that a normal phone with a rugged case won't?

Be cheaper, less bulky, and can fit in my front pocket for my work shirt.

Thats far though. What about the kyocera Duraforce PRO?

just ordered, hopefully not too hard
>>
>>58648869
OK. It's a good phone if you can get some discount. Horrible IPS, to be fair, but if you can get it for $80 new and can't afford anything more expensive - go for it. Otherwise, Xiaomi 4A is good for now, considering a newer SoC and a better screen. I don't know anything about LTE support in the US, though.
>>

>$80 new
Christ, why do you Americans get electronics for so cheap, it's unfair.
>>
Considering that the Redmi Note 3 Pro 2gb edition has become more expensive, is it still a good phone at $130?
>>
>>58648867
>no 3.5mm jack
>old and overheating SoC
>full of Sprint bloat
>average camera
>not completely water/dust proof (IP57 rating instead of IP68)

Not everyone wants super high specs.

>>58649408
It's not about super high specs, it's about not having your phone be obsolete the second you buy it

Do I buy a used Moto g4 plus (4gb ram 64gb storage) for 220 with a 1 yr warranty?

I'm still ok with 2gb. Depends on how it is used

Huwawei P9 Lite 3GB Ram Dual Sim for 230 euro's, worth?

It's for muh dad. Moto G 3rd gen is overpriced here in Europe. The iPhone 5s is only 150 dollars in the US but 300 something euro's still in Europe.
