Does Photo editing benefit more from more ram or a faster cpu?

neither.
if you need to ask this though, you should look into your craft more before wasting money on gear you cant use.

Well since I am planning on replacing my old Q8200 I paused on consideration of the photo editing I do sometimes.

Putting impact fonted text on images is not highly intensive.

depending on the photo editing, you'll want a good CPU, what ever the flavor of the week for ram is, and a strong GPU. The most important thing tho would be to get an SSD.

I'm planning on a 6600k, 8gb of ram, and I already have a 960 in my pc.

my mom does professional photo editing in photo shop with an i3 and she never has to wait for stuff to process or anything like that. when i had a q8200 neither did i. weird
thats fine though, make sure to get a z170 mainboard

I don't have to wait for things to process but when using pngs and messing with layers there is a major lag when moving them.

a CPU with good single thread performance ins the most important thing.

Haha that must be it, my Q8200 at 2.89ghz has terrible single thread.
