>tried Linux Mint
>all of them are less responsive than Windows 10
Why do people use this shit? It's the slowest fucking OS I have ever used.
Windows 10 fucking FLIES compared to Linux distros.
Why? And don't fucking tell me Linux is faster than Windows 10 because it's not. It's the slowest piece of shit ever.
Is this why you freetards rice your desktops to look like a wall of text? Because it can't handle a modern desktop UI that Windows and Mac PC's have?
Serious fucking question.
>Why do people use this shit? It's the slowest fucking OS I have ever used.
Richard Stallman is a proud to admit he is of Jewish descent and has brainwashed people with mental disabilities in to becoming voluntary slaves to his cult.
These people have been conditioned not to value free time (they have too much free time and have no reason to value it.
>OCD babby wants a UI with flashing, sparkling buttons that make a squeek noise when you click something
Linux runs on more machines than windows and hOmoSeX combined, show some respect
Hi Bill Gates, how are the body heat sensing thermostats doing ? What about that secret UFO in your underground garage ?
You donate alot of Satans money but your products are 10x slower than the WORST Linux distro ive found ;) so i will be sticking with this heavenly divine OS and not Wnblows.
Excuses are like assholes, every GNU/Linux user has at least 2: The thread.
Yeah op I noticed something weird about Linux too!
I installed VMWare workstation player, and tried to play an iso. It didn't work and it told me to "powercycle", which is just a fancy word for "turn your computer off and on again".
/G/ told me I never have to do that with Linux!!!!
No you're not... We had this exact thread with EXACTLY the same text and image yesterday. The fact that it's a troll copypasta is beyond obvious.
Stop posting this and piss off back to /v/ with the rest of you kiddies.
Don't ask that, don't feed the faggot op
It doesn't matter, he hasn't ever used Linux based distribution before, he just wants a flame war between windows users and Linux distribution users.
It's true what you're saying, and it makes sense that Windows has been extremely optimized to run fast given there's a huge company behind it and doesn't have to be as "generic" and portable as GNU/Linux.
But, it all really boils down to what DE/WM you're using. I'm pretty sure Openbox for example would be blazing fast on even ancient hardware, especially when it's using some very bare bones OS like Arch. You just need to know what you're doing with Linux, Windows takes a lot of decisions on your behalf to make sure everything works as intended (which is fine)
That sort of explains the whole thing...
I wish the new management of 4chan would make it so that if you try to access /g/ and have been to /v/ recently you get re-directed to a separate version of /g/ for people who post on /v/.
>NEETs demand that you stop liking things they don't like.
>NEETs can't stop and simply take a little pride at their own computing talents and interests without shitting on others.
>NEETs have an exaggerated self-importance.
That's literally the most vague statement I have ever heard ever. Do you have a shitty hard drive? Or is it an SSD? This day and age, your processor means jack shit if it's anything above an i3 sandy bridge and you don't do Cpu intensive tasks.
I hate these threads the most
These people hate Linux and have used windows all their lives, they don't want to learn anything. They just want to bash Linux with their lives.
To do this, instead of taking the normal route of bashing it, they take the passive-aggressive route, like asking a question "why do people use this shit?", " what am I doing wrong?", "please explain it to me?"
After reading these questions, innocent users like us get drawn to help the poor bastards like op, who sit behind their monitors and laugh like anything.
You're loading just a small part of the movie when you open the file, your media player doesn't transfer the whole movie before starting it. 48x DVD transfer rate tends to be 2-3 times slower than a modern HDD (and that's ignoring the possibility of using an SSD). Not only that, but DVDs perform a lot better when reading continuous data (i.e. a movie) than reading random files in an OS or software package. Also generally a DVD will stop spinning when idle, meaning it will need to spin up again to access something, increasing response time (HDDs do this too but tend to spin up from idle faster).
It all stacks up to make running an OS from a DVD considerably slower than from a HDD.
Just tell them to install Gentoo and hide the thread. Let them circle-jerk and the thread will die soon.
This advice should be in the sticky, by the way, and can be applied to all shill/fanboy threads.
I got two PC next to each other. 1 (new) running 10 pro. 2 ( old) running xubuntu. It's quite fast on old PC but I got a problem with no easy solution. I can remap a fixing side buttons on my mouse (back and forward). I read a lot of info about it and still could not do it. Tried many tutorials. No luck. Why is there no app what just rebind mouse buttons? BTW. I barely turn Linux PC on because I don't need to read a lot of stuff to get things done. And not all tutorials work.
I prefer Linux, works faster, easier to update etc. I still have Windows 8.1 when I have to use CAD etc. If windows is faster for you and you enjoy it more then stick with it or try Xubuntu (or any popular distro with lighter DE).
My primary problem with Linux OSs is the prevalence of X, which is the shittiest window system I've ever used in my entire life. That shit should've been left behind in the 1990s.
Fedora 24 is might be shipped with Wayland by default so there's something to look forward too.
>those spergs w/ excuses
Linux is garbage. G A R B A G E.
People only use it because it's free and because they can shitpost about it on this fucking cancerous board.
No good software exists for Linux. It's a timesink for NEET nerds who want to circlejerk in desktop threads.
Once you grow up, you'll realize I am right. Windows is better for work.
Yes, deep down you know I'm right. Stop making excuses, don't even bother replying.
>NOT RUNNING FROM A LIVE USB OR SD CARD
Holy shit winshills are on full force here. OP you pathetic shill, get the fuck out with your designated OS.
Your arguments are not backed by no evidence and windows 10 is objectively slower than Linux Mint,Ubuntu and Fedora.
Fuck off back to >>>/biz/ with your pathetic shilling skills, we had this thread last week.
Only newfags fall for your spyware OS
>tried Linux Mint
Nah you didn't Pajeet.
Cinnamon is 10 times faster and better looking than Windows, an OS that (just to remind everybody) has the code to draw scrollbars embedded into the fucking kernel.
Windows 10 just resumes, that's all.
If you want to see how long Window 10 takes to start you need to force a full shutdown.
Open CMD and typeshutdown /s /t 0
This will shutdown the machine entirely. Now start it up, it'll take much longer.
Windows 8 and 10 don't actually shutdown when you tell them to shutdown, they close open applications and hibernate the kernel.
>scrollbars embedded into the fucking kernel
They go the passive aggressive route because they know that they can't hide the sun with one finger, they cannot prove their exaggerated claims so they resort to be as vague as possible in hope to find some people that agrees with them in order to feel better with themselves, because they cannot convince the ones that already likes linux.
Pick one, faggot. Linus torvalds won't employ people to shill his kernel anywhere
>Once you grow up, you'll realize I am right. Windows is better for work.
Why do people keep saying this? The only computer I have with linux installed right now is my work computer.
>Implying 5 rupees is more than $0
Nice one prajeet
They're interested in collecting money.
>>tried Linux Mint
>>all of them are less responsive than Windows 10
>Why? And don't fucking tell me Linux is faster than Windows 10 because it's not. It's the slowest piece of shit ever.
Just fucking blatant lies at this pont! Windows users are so stupid they can't even come up with compelling arguments.
No, it shouldn't, and it definitely doesn't because Windows XP was when Windows was actually a decent OS.
Put Lubuntu against W10 and you won't see anywhere near the results you see in this video.
Honestly it's hard for Linux not to outperform Windows given all the bloat it has. I don't have numbers to back me up but I can tell you from experience that applications boot faster from my shitty HDD with Debian Linux than they do from my high quality SSD on Windows. That alone says a lot. Even the OS itself boots in approximately the same time (Windows boot time off of an SSD is impressive desu but Debian takes about 15% longer off of my HDD. Which is still under 5 seconds).
In terms of interface responsiveness, Linux also wins out in my experience. Moving windows around feels zippy and instant vs windows where doing a quick keyboard based move of a window across three monitors can be a little laggy.
Overall I'm fine with windows personally but I don't think it's unrealistic to claim that Linux is at least 50% faster at basic tasks. For general processing though (e.g. compiling a software package) it's probably only like 10% faster though.
Oops forgot to mention that I was using Cinnamon for my comparison of UI responsiveness since its objectively the best window manager for normies. I normally run xmonad but that's not a fair comparison because it's too lightweight for normies.
I use Ubuntu Unity. Not sure what all the hate is. It is super fast and fluid, pretty low on resources idling at around ~450 mb ram, and I think it looks decent out of the box, but change the cursor to an OS X themed one, like http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ubuntu+OS+X+Cursors?content=174526, but Flatabulous theme on, like this https://github.com/anmoljagetia/Flatabulous, and then use Numix Circle for your icons, and you're all set. That and maybe add the unity tweak tool to change some stuff.
I have a pretty old netbook with 2 gigs of ram.
With XP it was quite fast because it was designed for it. Updating to Windows 7 was the biggest mistake I made. Fully booting the system could take upto 5 min because it fucking kept swapping to the hdd for no reason. Opening a browser, again swapping endlessly.
It was deliberately keeping ram usage around the 1.7G mark. So using it made me want to smash the netbook to pieces.
Debian on the same machine was like a whole new experience. Fast boot times and no delay in launching apps. Massive amounts of free ram compared to Windows made it usable for daily usage. So for old machines Linux blows Windows out of the water.
I play lots of games with an eGPU and use Linux specifically BECAUSE its faster and easier to use.
Pic related, cold boot including firmware browser, wifi, and torrents clocking in at around 6 seconds.
yeah a VM. So. I have to use some 3rd party shit to play a game at shitty settings. lame. and I only play d3. yeah for children. get the fuck out of your house.
I used linux for years I know how it works. but i also know the software doesn't compare to windows and you canot game
>But you cannot play game son linux
Short Answer - You wouldn't notice on modern hardware.
The major benefit here will not be speed but relative performance for the cost. Open source projects are usually designed and tested on *nix (linux/unix/bsd) first, and then 'ported' to Windows. Features usually creep into windows 2nd, not first.
This brings me to my next point...
Licensing fees are the hidden performance cost
If you have a 6 core Linux server it doesn't cost any money to use all 6 cores, and with the money you save on licensing you can buy more memory, or faster disks - this will be the biggest performance increase, not one OS vs Another.
Linux has unique features
There is also the case to make about Operating System features, although many programs don't yet take advantage of them... In the case of epoll vs select() or poll() - windows does not have an equivelant, nor does it have sendfile, or a threads implementation similar to pthreads in 2.6+ Kernels.
Memory and Disk are always the Bottleneck
Processors are SO fast nowadays, processors are eternally starved (yes starved) for data - the system memory is usually 3 - 4 times slower still to this day. The processor usually does 4-5 wait cycles for every memory access. This is why processors have 3 levels of internal caching (L1, L2, L3) to help with this. Disk access will be even a larger factor - so save your licensing pennies and buy more memory, and faster disks!!!
My primary problem with Linux is kind of the same. The X situation is apparent in the entire ecosystem. Stuff gets built up on a shitty mediocre concept. Some developers believe it's so the fork in and put some lipstick on it fragmenting the software base even more. Eventually you are going to have 4 different sound subsystems with hundreds of programs above it trying to put lipstick on the pig in several layers.
Windows 10 if you don't care about privacy or freedoms (even though windows 7 infringes a bit on that
Windows 7 if you want some privacy
GNU/Linux would be a good choice though.
I don't think it's terrible like most other people here do, all I'm saying is that Cinnamon is clearly better overall. Cleaner, more logical interface, non hideous default theme, free of excessive eye candy bloat. Also 450mb seems a little on the high side but I might be wrong on that (don't currently have access to my desktop or laptop).
Yes sir, and more supported.
I will argue that it's not as secure as Linux (because it's not), but it should have more support than Linux, but even then I find that difficult to believe, as it's hard to find a solution to your problem on windows rather than google specific issue and find an ubuntu post thing or looking at the arch wiki. Lovely photo by the way, I had myself a good chuckle.
>Why do people use this shit? It's the slowest fucking OS I have ever used.
In what way is it slower?
Have you installed it to a hard drive?
Slow??? have you been using KDE? You know linux is a kernel, right, and that the desktop you use on top of the kernel is important, right?
So you set up your pentium 4 with KDE Plasma and it runs slow?
OK tell us more about this slowness
I never understood why people keep trying to say this. You are far more likely to find information on how to fix a problem when dealing with windows because there are so many people using it.
Half the time with linux you get a fucking 15 year old bulletin board text archive that is irrelevant, or you get an apple tier response of 'why would you want to do that?'
>implying i'm limiting what i can do on my computer
I don't give a fuck what /g/ thinks, I do it for myself. And all the games i want to play are available on linux, or i just run them on wine with playonlinux
Bullshit, I've tried numerous distros and I'm a Win baby and can confirm Linux is in fact faster. If you wait for all the updates to finish, and actually have working drivers it "flies"
>I have no argument against OP
>better call him a faggot and a shill
