>youtube-dl supports downloading from Crunchyroll
>tfw freedom: 1 - the botnet: 0
I wish youtube-dl wasn't so damn slow. There really is no reason to load every single extractor. I know the regexp to match the right extractor for that url is neededd, but there is no reason to load the whole extractor before having confirmed it's the one you need. It's just so much overhead.
>downloading streamed anime
I'm a 36 year old program manager; I have a dev team of 6 programmers and even though I have an undergrad CS degreee from a top 20 school and an MBA from a top 10 school (non ivy-league), I cannot relate to them. I do not get any of the "in-jokes" because I never watched Anime. What anime should I start begin with? Remember, this is only so i can have team building sessions with my autistic dev team.
"hey, so ive got free time on my hands, hows this anime stuff you guys like"
dont go word for word, basically casually ask them, or hell. this is 4chan. lurk moar.
get aquainted with anime lingo. if i dont know what show to watch, i go to kissanime and read the summary.
its the same as looking for American shows (or wherever you're from)
>Horriblesubs 50,000 Downloads
This along with entry level anime like cowboy bebop, dragon ball z, sailor moon, and neon genesis evangelion. /a/ honestly likes cowboy bebop and eva despite normalfag status and will agree bebop is one of the few acceptable dubs to watch.
I've been thinking about moving some code around and having all the regexp in a single file that checks and then loads the right extractor. Seems like the better solution to me.
The main reason I'm using youtube-dl with mpv to watch videos is because I'm on a machine that is too slow to show the videos in the browser. In my case the overhead is very noticeable.
You're right, on my desktop PC it's not that big of a deal.
Tell them they are too old for kids cartoons, tell them to take up a real man's hobby like hunting and skinning dear, or bear fighting, or snake charming. Basically tell them to man the fuck up.
It just doesn't make much sense to do it any other way
If you had a bunch of tools to download from a bunch of different sites, e.g. Youtube, Crunchyroll, Twitch, etc. and a computer-illiterate friend asked you to download a thing at a URL, you'd look at the URL to see what it is (e.g. https://youtu.be/fhwofbd) before you even look at the tools you have
What I'm saying is, youtube-dl could just load of regular expressions to determine which extractor it needs to use. Then it would load that extractor and use it to download the video.
Right now, it loads every single extractor it has available. Then it figures out which extractor it needs by using the regular expressions on the url and then downloads the video.
Yes but that's besides they point. What you described previously is what regular fansub groups do with their source files, usually .ts from some shitty japanese network. Horriblesubs rip the entire stream from CR, video, audio & subs and remux it. That's it. It's 100% automated.
You are really overestimating their laziness and efficiency if you think they time, typeset, encode anything.
It makes some amount of sense. The regular expression and the extractor are in the same textfile. This way you keep them together and you keep the project modular. I might have done the same thing in the beginning, but this approach doesn't scale very well and will only get worse as more sites are supported.
Extractors could come with two files: a regex and the extractor itself. That doesn't seem like too much of a burden on extractor writers/distributors, since they have to come up with both anyway.
This is some next level shitposting. Why the FUCK do the mods not delete this rubbish? This isn't /a/, where discussion about anime streaming sites belong. The post itself is absolute rubbish as well no matter how ever slightly it relates to technology.
>find one site to use
>no one tells me a better alternative
>the time it would take to download a series vs watch a series dictates i stream anime
>get shit from it
well? teach me a better way. other wise fuck off, this is /g/ for technology, not >>>/a/utism
Nope, 1080p rips if they're coming from Crunchyroll at least.
HorribleSubs is a good thing. Only autists caring about MUH FANSUBBING COMMUNITY give a shit. CR subs are high quality (at least for english and spanish) and in fact they hire people who used to fansubbing. If you see someone posting examples of shit subs they have, it's probably old stuff. New releases have all been good from my experience.
Not really. The only thing I don't like about them is that they never do chapters on their releases.
Other people dislike them because they rip subs from more "official" sources and also don't style their stuff much, but the tradeoff is they do more series and have their releases sooner than other groups, so fuck it.
I know you're kidding, but a JR. Dev on my last team would build AR-15's; he talked me into buying a BCM. We would go to the range a few times a year. Nothing wrong with cartoons, again the last team would go non-stop Archer references.
It doesn't support UK VoD sites. Specifically
There's the separate get-iplayer which may or may not still work, and there's absolutely nothing for the other three.
The post does not say anything though.
Woopty fucking doo, some obscure streaming service used by aspies and weaboos supports some shitty Chrome plugin.
This is not a technology discussion.
I think he may have been serious on the boku no pico. I've seen people on /a/ seriously say they liked it. You can only guarantee they're memeing if they say that after you ask what anime an anon posted.
Your sentence syntax is incorrect. You should have said, "who release the arguably better product for free". Saying it like you did communicates that it is arguable fansubs release a product for free at all.
You're not supporting the original artists and producers, you're only supporting CR. Buy the BDs and/or merchandise from Japan if you want to support the creators.
Then go for something cheaper but still from Japan. Search for keychains, mousepads, phone covers, belts, neckties, merchandise of your favorite anime on Amiami, all of those are much cheaper than BDs and you'd be supporting the creators more than if you bought a CR subscription.
So if they were fucking furry-scum you would have started asking about fursuits and dragon dildos advice?
>using a 3rd party server to do a job your own machine could do
because then i dont have to deal with the side effects on my actual os
i suppose this doesnt work if you're an ACTUAL freetard, but in my mind virtualizing closed source software doesnt hurt me as long as i dont pay for it
The problem with that is that they might look at the sales figures and go "MAKE MORE MERCH!" instead of "MAKE MORE ANIME!". I think soundtrack/character song/etc. CDs might be a safer bet.
Half the point of anime is to promote the figures. Look at Gundam. Sunrise can eat a few flops and still convince shareholders to let them make another Gundam because the figures sell like hotcakes.
>not having RSS feeds to automatically download all your cartoons while you're sleeping or at work
>having full quality non-shit subs readily available
CR is shit and you should feel bad for using it. The only advantage to using HS is speed, literally nothing else. The "encodes" look worse, too.
There are also so many problems in using (paying) CR due to its history and how it got big. They literally exploited fansubbers and abandoned them as soon as they had the chance to go full jew. They also refuse to improve their services, despite making promises. See Daiz' CR Reddit AMA and how he tears them a new asshole.
