How do I create proper symlinks with a bash script?
I'm trying to get my config files linked to my repo, but if I use relative location it doesn't work, how would I do full path symlinks to the repo's files?
The install script is in the root of the repo btw.

How do I create a graphical installer for Arch? I want to make "my own" arch distribution with a simple graphical installer along with the full install having all of my custom packages, window manager, software utilities, etc... Right out of the box. Just as a little side project to dick around with and get experience. I've got my own arch setup but I don't know how to repackage all of my configs and stuff into an installer let alone add a bootable GUI installer.

Whenever I make a new C++ project, the main function is given to me like this:
int main(int argc, char * argv[]) {
cout << "ayy lmao" << endl;
return 0;
}

Why are there two arguments "int argc" and "char * argv[]" and what do they mean?
I mean, the program works just as fine with simply "int main(){"

I guess like this. Make a regular arch distro that
>automatically logs in
>starts X11 with WM like Openbox/TWM
>starts the installer

Now just make an installer in GTK or Qt that executes appropriate commands.

>implying I know what I'm talking about
>>
>>52863345
When you use the program with command line like:
./program -big -faggot

The argc stores the number of arguments (3). It includes the program name.
The argv stores the arguments:
"program"
"-big"
"-faggot"

If you don't want to parse command line arguments int main() is a short cut.
>>
>>52863355
I've read as far as,
>install arch
>Download packages
>use archiso utilities to create arch ISO
>add packages to list

But as for editing the actual processes at startup I'll have to find a way to include an automatic install launcher. Since arch already boots straight into root I just need to start the installer right after boot.

I'm really excited to gently rice an arch distro for development purposes. My goal is clean and functional but still good looking enough to catch the eye. Used for C++ development.

No. Some laptops will not get enough power from the brick when under full load, so they need the battery plugged in to maintain clockspeed.

Depends on how big the monitor is and how close to your eyes it is. For a 24" desktop monitor? No.

For graphics cards, I like to use this ranking here. Just scroll down a little bit until you see the big list.

It is worth it for a big enough monitor (~27"+), also you'll need at the very VERY least a 280X to power that unless you don't mind lowered IQ settings or kicking back to 1080p for gaming.

How do I use MTP from commandline?

I have this phone and the way I usually manage USB filesystems is by manually mounting them on /mnt/ with `mount`. However, this phone shows me some random shit, idk, so I installed `mtpfs` but how do I use it to transfer some shit music to my shit device?
>>
>>52863695
>>Also, is the charging process managed by the OS or is it done "in hard" by the engineers who designed the laptop?
Either the battery, the charger, or something in between is going to have some protective circuitry to stop the battery from being overcharged. This is what makes the battery stop charging once it reaches 100%, managed entirely by the hardware.
You might have some piece of software that allows you to set a different threshold for when to stop charging the battery, but aside from changing one value stored on a chip somewhere, the OS has nothing to do with managing the charging process.

>"If the battery pack is removed and the laptop is powered by a 65W AC adapter only, the CPU downclocks to the lowest multiplier and remains locked in low speed. Was looking through a drawer and found old controller

Seems to work fine, if not for the button layout being a bit odd. Thing is, I wanted to try and see if I could do some shit in csgo (basically, left hand controller, but still using mouse to aim) but it doesn't seem to register the bumper (or whatever they're called) movement at all. I could bind the buttons, and I know the hardware works because dark souls did allow me to use the bumpers. Then I tried a joystick and same effect, buttons work, but the stick movement is ignored

Any idea what's going wrong, and how I could fix it?
>>
>>52864105
It's hard to find anything that says "this is how it is for every battery/charger made."
But if you find a proper teardown video/article - one including an actual teardown of a battery rather than just taking it out of the device - of pretty much anything with a battery, you'll shut your friend up quickly.
https://www.youtube.com/user/bigclivedotcom This guy shows some pretty good examples of how even cheap Chinese shit has protective circuits to prevent overcharging.

Hi sqt, I'm considering on buying a 4Tb to my future NAS, to keep backups and things I won't use (like shows I've been watch) in a little time.

I don't want Seagate so I'm going with WD. I though Greens were the best to keep things, low consumption and such, but now I read Reds are "designed to" NAS. Someone can tell me what is better and why?
>>
>>52864835
Green is cheap and slow. It works well for backups and archives.

Reds are faster.

If I recall correctly, reds have some built-in protection against vibrations that make them more reliable in the long run when stacked up next to other drives in a tiny NAS enclosure.

But this is all stuff you can go and look up on WD's site yourself. Long story short, if you're putting it in a NAS, red > green.

Adwcleaner too.

Get Reds for storage/ backups.

Greens are the cheapest and less reliable HDDs, don't trust them for backups.

Look up benchmarks for your ssd. See what kind of speeds they get for different measurements, and remember that yours will be capped at 300 MB/s.
It's very rare to be able to use an ssd at max speed anyway. A better ssd will have better speeds on other measurements, but likely still under the max bandwidth of the connection.

Suggest for me a GNU/Linux distro for me - a first time user.
I'm totally new, I'm tech-illiterate concerning advanced CLI stuff.
Although I hope to start here, and steadily become proficient using Linux-based OS.
Most of all, I value efficiency and fast responsiveness, because I'm using old hardware.
I don't want any bullshit. No hideously drab UI also.
Lubuntu is my current pick unless someone can persuade me there's a better first-choice.

I've used Windows for eight years, and Mac for the recent eight years.
To begin with GNU/Linux I'm going to dual-boot from OS X to Linux using rEFIND.
The GPU in particular is very shitty - NVIDIA GT120.

For the past week I've been experiencing some pretty bad connection problems in my video games. I suspected my ISP was just having some issues but I finally got sick and tired of it and called them today. They claim that I'm experiencing no packet loss from their end.

Connecting directly to the modem makes my packet loss via WinMTR drop a considerable amount. My pings that I run also do not time out. When I'm connected to the wireless router(direct connection, I am not using the wireless network) I get pic related.

My question is how do I figure out, 100% certain, that it's my router causing packet loss? If it is indeed the router, can I change any configurations/settings to fix the packet loss or am I stuck with buying a new one? Sorry for the shit paint, it's the easiest way I knew how to show what I was getting.

lads, I fucked up.

how do I do this in firefox?
>>
33 years old here.

I loved those Winamp visualizers back in the days.
Tried to get back into them, but Winamp AVS still only uses one core and ignores the GPU, so I only get like 50 fps at 1024x768 even with my old stuff.

Are there nice visualizers that actually use modern PC capabilities?

Thanks for answering my stupid question, Anon. I'll definitely check them both out.

Does Clementine have an iTunes 10 GUI? Going to be hard to switch from iTunes 10 to something like Clementine or MusicBee.
>>
>>52871708
Well why do you have to switch in the first place?

How should I go about sending a defective item back to Newegg? My brand new MSI R9 390 has been giving me issues such as screen flickering with both of my monitors when turning off and back on my monitor connected via DVI, and poor performance (4690K @ 4.2GHz and 16GB RAM).

Should I just get a box from UPS before I ship it out for a replacement?
>>
>>52871708
it should be familiar, i think Clementine is easier to switch to. if you were on GNU/Linux i would recommend quod libet.

>>
>>52871744
There isn't any particular reason to why I'm switching, but I would like to use something that is wanting to auto tag my shit without having to log in to iTunes constantly.

>>52871773
Quod Libet looks to have a build for Windows. Would that support the auto tagging bullshit that I want? And Clementine is looking to the choice, like the Anon suggested in his/her reply.

Is there a way to prioritise certain torrents to seed over other torrents in Deluge? I'm fairly sure priority only applies to download order.
>>
>>52871850
It seeds what it can. You can change the groups to allow for more connections per torrent.
>>
>>52871850
This is what is called priority
>>
how do i increment an integer within a while loop

e. g
while (inFile.hasNext())
{
int sNum = 0;

. . .

sNum++
}

Obviously, when the loop runs again, it just sets sNum back to 1. What to do?
>>
>>52871877
Priority fades out for individual files as soon as it finished downloading. Unless there's some menu I don't know about priority doesn't relate to seeding.

>>52871873
So there's no way to prioritise certain torrents regardless of upload speed/whatever default priority system it uses for limited upload slots?
>>
>>52871750
thanks, how do I use them without clicking? I set some keywords but writing them doesn't seem to change anything
>>
>>52871988
are you trolling or what? You create and assign a new sNum variable iwt the value 0. That should be done outside the while loop.

So, anyone have advice about using CCleaner to clean up an old Windows 7 install?

Can it fuck up the system in any way?
>>
>>52872136
only if you mess with the registry, but the automatic cleaning doesn't touch it so it's fine

Right half of the screen was video output by Winamp AVS. Don't know why it didn't get captured.

Shows up fine on the other screen
>>
>>52872206

>>
>>52872017
that's how i would do it but i can't put the variable inside of the while parens. i.e.

while (inFile.hasNext(); sNum = 0; sNum);

At least that's how I would normally do it in a for loop but is the syntax different here or what?
>>
>>52872270
that last sNum should be sNum++, my bad.

I'm trying to install Windows 98SE on an old Pentium 4 machine. Planning on using it as an old gaming computer and just for the fun of making it work. After the install is complete and I'm asked to input date and time I notice that the year displayed is corrupted and says something like "80". If I touch anything such as press Okay or try and change the date it bluescreens.

The computer boots fine into safe mode. A peculiar thing I noticed is that when you're in safe mode and change the date it only displays the year with two digits. As in 02, 03 up to 99. The computer should be from around 2002.

256 MB RAM - Memtest was fine with no errors
P4 2.8 ghz
I have a couple of AGP cards i've tried, all with the same results. It bluescreens with the onboard gfx aswell. No errors on the hard drive either since i've used it on another computer a couple of days ago with now problems.

I appreciate any ideas.

Hey guys. I'm finally taking the plunge when it comes to Linux by dual booting my Windows 7 install.

About how big of a partition should I need for a Debian install that I'll be shit posting and ricing on? 15 GB?

Also, this may be a really stupid question but I suppose this is the place to do it:
After I install Debian on a seperate partition, will I be able to play my music files that are on a seperate NTFS partition?
>>
>>52872434
OBS is great
>>
>>52872537
i would give it 25GB just in case. and yes you can mount ntfs drives and play stuff from them, but ntfs a shit, use a shared fat32 or something instead. and visit >>>/g/flt

I haven't uttered a sentence like that since 1999. Brings me back.

If I reset the CMOS settings in the BIOS it resets the date to 2002. Would that really date it to before y2k?

sup /g/

I just need some simple stupid help with dnscrypt on debian based OS. I made the dive into lunix ubongo but there was no simple way (UI) to configure it/change servers. the ubongo forums didn't help much, so maybe you know more.

I just need the entire step to install DNScrypt and to autostart on lunix startup and connect to that openDNS server in baguette France where they don't keep DNSSEC and logs. Most of the guides I ran into only specified the default openDNS.

also thanks but don't copy paste the install commands for DNScrypt, UNLESS you did the install as well yourself and it worked for you RECENTLY. I've tried some of the guides and maybe they were outdated so I ended up with links that were no longer up and missing repository nonsense.

I know you're not tech supports but any help is appreciated, thanks either way /g/

I have this active bandpass filter but I need to power the op-amp off a single 12V supply. I know you can make single supply op-amps by applying a DC level to the input via a voltage divider and then removing it by sticking a capacitor in series with the output of the op-amp but I'm not sure how to do it here without screwing up the filtering too.
