Instead of usability studies and system-wide guidelines, people started doing whatever the fuck they wanted. Applications have become harder and harder to navigate as a result. The studies that *have* been done tend to look only at newcomers, while fucking over the long-time customers (e.g. Office ribbon, Metro).

In my opinion, all desktop operating systems on the market right now should have a UI very similar in structure to Windows 95. Not until we have sweet, immersive 3D headsets (or better yet, jacking in for a direct neural connection) should a significantly different interface be devised.

Raleigh is an exellent theme in thermes of visibility.
It's default greyish colors can easily be altered to a more modern look while retaining a classic windows style which some people like.

Well, LibreOffice is a 30 year old Office 2003 clone and not really a "Linux app". It looks like shit on OS X and Windows too.

Gnome applications look just fine IMHO, too bad they don't really do anything.

I'm not a user of any linux distro but I'd say I rather like those icons, especially the gnome ones.
