What do you think of Terry A. Davis? Honestly I feel pretty bad for dude.
Is his OS actually impressive? I'm assuming he doesn't have a job and has a lot of time to obsess about writing it
Were he not mental would he be somebody of note or just another programmer?
>It is pretty limited though
Did you expect him to make an OS on par with GNU/Linux as a lone wolf? Even though it doesn't run on hardware, but in a VM, it's still really impressive.

He has some really cool ideas such as inline graphics and the file system. His Holy C language is interesting too. The OS itself uses quite old and by today's standards basic technologies. There is no hardware acceleration etc as God didn't want that apparently. Pretty much the only reason the system is responsive is because of how powerful machines are these days. Remember his OS can only run in a VM due to the insecure ways he deals with memory and device access. All very 90s ways of doing things on old Pentium CPUs.
He is no doubt very very good at what he does though and I do not doubt he could be an amazing programmer of modern systems if God wanted him to be.
Why is this such a gold mine
Dude must have no testosterone or an unbelievable amount of self control. He made me realize that if I wasn't so addicted to porn and jerking off, I could've accomplished so much in the past few years. I'm certainly not smart enough to write my own operating system, but I could've at least finished a few of the applications that I was working on.
TempleOS is neat. Crazy in its totally different approach to everything else, charmingly retrofuturistic and reminiscent of the 80s microcomputers in a good way, but definitely neat. It has a few really nice ideas in it; albeit ideas that probably wouldn't fit anywhere near as neatly in anything else.
Face it: you don't just sit down and write an entire operating system, including the language it's written in, including that language's compiler.
Unless of course you're Terry A. Davis. He's done it, the absolute madman.
Of course, that's exactly the thing. You've got to wonder about his quality of life; his family; his friends; what else he has. That's a huge pity, a real shame. You might think of it as a waste, but would it even be the same without that kind of passion behind it?
It is an almost unfathomable amount of work. It probably takes that level of mission-from-God unbending determination to be able to accomplish a task of that magnitude. A normal person would not; could not have done it. You pretty much have to be a little insane to even try.
So yeah. It's sad, but it's also kind of beautiful. Admiration for what he's accomplished; amusement for some of the shit he says that you really only get away with if you have a condition like that; sadness for whatever else is in his life.
Shine on, you crazy diamond.
Schizophrenia is a very interesting mental disorder.
There's definitely a pattern to it. People who suffer from serious schizophrenia all seem to write in the same, disorganized and badly formatted way.
Depending on the culture, the subjects the sufferers become obsessed with change. Asians tend to have more delusions about shamefur display.
For someone who can and does literally spend all of his time programming (and worshiping his creations), probably not that impressive. Pick up a systems architecture book and you've got the recipes to make an OS.
>he wrote his own compiler
Pick up a book and you can write a compiler, given enough time
At my university every 2nd semester gets to write one, checking semantics, optimizing and translating that is, not the lexer.
> fuckin' MIT nigger thought it was the stack
> pretend we wanted to do a system call ...
> somebody's brain would shut down and they'd get all nigger-licious
TempleOS is not exactly the kind of system I'd have much interest in running (Neo Commodore 64), but I fucking love Terry.
If that's who I'm thinking of (Shawn T. Cook), he used to have a Facebook account where he would post shit that was even crazier than what our boy Terry posted. I remember he said something about driving a school bus into a vat of acid or something and he posted pictures of some crystals that started with meth (it wasn't methamphetamine) and rave about how the dentist scares him, shit was hilarious.
He deleted his account or made it private though.
does anyone know how i can get autism or schizophrenia? i wanna live with my parents forever too but they keep trying to make me get a job. i've been thinking about cutting one of my legs off
tfw Terry turned away the young tranny thompson with his holiness.
>Why do schizophrenic people have this tendency to turn ultra racist and scream niggers? Ian showed signs of that too.
Ian was quoting what he thought the police attitudes were towards black people. He was not himself expressing racist thoughts.
He's probrably more that just schizo, i've met some schizo people and they're pretty normal as long as they're treated, this dude is just spouting nonsense 24/7, makes me feel kinda bad for him.
>Face it: you don't just sit down and write an entire operating system, including the language it's written in, including that language's compiler.
I plan to do exactly that, except I will also design the architecture and write the VM it runs on.
Was banned for saying "CIA niggers" . You really that butt mad janitor? Terry says this himself.
I think some janitor is monitoring the thread. There are a lot of deleted posts due to the poster using "nigger"...
Yo, janitor fag : The real Terry was banned of reddit 'cause of the same reason you're deleting these dude's posts. Should Terry himself post in the thread, you would censor him.
