I personally can't be arsed to use any fancy UI on fb2k since I prefer functionality over form. The various plugins available are nice though. I like that you can pretty much add any functionality to it.
>removing tracking software that sends Microsoft important information about the programs you use
>literally removing your voice in Microsoft's plan for supporting their software
It's like you don't want Microsoft to improve it's product for you.
>needs tons of plugins, codecs and customization for basic functionality
>software with no bullshit
>almost only stuff with a gui being listed
hands down one of the most useful and versatile tools for administration. Easy to learn and be productive in.
plays any media format in good quality without any hassle, also offers any optimization you can think of.
modern and fast language that gets rid of the harmful OOP cruft while still offering its useful parts. Also gets rid of dynamic linking bullshit and creates binaries that just werk.
A free world-class c compiler without any ideological bullshit attached to it
powerful, scalable, distributed and insanely useful even for things beyond software development
the best and most widely supported rendering engine, just works on any plattform for anyone and again no bullshit attached
I never said it did, stop being so insecure
>someone was mad enough to edit it into this
Excuse me, are you from the past?
If it has no touch interface or voice recognition, it's trash. People born after 1995 won't know how to interact with it. Also don't offer any configuration options AT ALL, since that would only confuse them.
Just monitor their behavior remotely and decide what's best for them. That's how software should be designed.
>spend 2 minutes doing a task in an easy to use GUI every time
>spend 15 minutes looking up commands in a CLI the first time, then spend 5 seconds on that task every time after.
CLIs are better for repeated tasks.
GUIs are better for tasks you do only rarely.
>haha, lmao git means github, upvoted xD
Git is decentralized, you can easily init a repository on your local file system and work with it, which makes it great for:
- configuration files
- tex documents
>spend 15 minutes searching on the web witch one of the million menus and buttons to press
>spend 15 minutes searching on the web witch command to copy and paste
Shame there's no GUI though. I use TortoiseHG with mercurial, and it's beautiful. There are shome shitty GUI tools for Git, but none of them come even close to the glory that is TortoiseHG.
SourceTree is exactly the thing I was talking about. it's sorta similar to TortoiseHG, but apparently completely web-based and feels very sluggish because of that - also diff displays were very limited in the version I last used.
>Most of the complex version control tasks are just naturally easier to do in the CLI.
I won't argue with that, but no one is stopping me from doing those complex tasks in CLI. Most of tasks I do are simple. Being able to click on a commit and then on file to see associated changes, being about to right click on a commit and left click "update" to update code in filesystem to that version, those tasks are best when you have visual representation of tree right in front of you.
thanks for this thread, all these raging winfags really gave me a good chuckle. it's ridiculous as fuck
>apparently completely web-based
Its not it originated as a native OSX software written in ObjC, I've never used the Windows version but its probably just badly ported.
I mainly use SourceTree for doing fine grained commits, watching diffs and the stash content and I have no issues with it whatsoever.
Tortoisehg is annoying because it doesn't support driessen
Sourcetree is annoying because it doesn't work on the platform with 30% of developers even though people have been asking for it for 3 years now, and it doesn't support mercurial queues (git stage equivalent)
You don't even know that GUIs are built on CLI tools, you idiot. Fuck off, norme!
Why is it a bad thing for a video software to support more functionality. Streaming is basic shit. Really basic.
Go ahead and use your rice player. But don't claim it is anywhere near feature complete.
>having to click things so a program can do something for you instead of having your valet do it and dictating everything to him
>working for the machine
>being this much of a slave
You have failed understanding the purpose of a machine
Potplayer is the best choice on Windows don't listen to the freetards.
Also YIFY is objectively shit.
If you are not cursed with 3rd world internet there is literally no reason to download shitty releases.
>Regardless of your Internet speeds, 10GB is going to take 10x as long as 1GB to transfer.
In both cases we're talking about very little time, less than the runtime of the movie.
If you set the torrent client to download the pieces in sequential order you can literally watch it while it's still downloading.
Let's say you have gigabit Internet. Downloading a 10GB movie takes 80 seconds. Downloading a 1GB movie takes 8 seconds. A minute and a half isn't much time at all, but it's far more than 8 seconds, and all of that just to delete it because it turned out to be shit
Honestly I don't even know what you're arguing for any more.
It's like you download every movie that comes out in the quickest way possible, scrub trough the timeline and say "well this is shit, I'm glad I didn't waste my time downloading it in high quality"
I'm just saying you could do it, if you are in such a hurry that you can't wait for the whole movie to download.
It's a good idea just to have lots of movies to chose from in case of no reliable seeders for one of them, rather than download the moment you feel like watching a movie.
Holy shit, Potplayer actually plays youtube urls I had no idea.
Some direct url links can be played in MPC. And actually plays them better. Yesterday I watched football through MPC because audio would go out of sync after few minutes on Potplayer. But MPC fails to play some streams, it's true.
I guess VLC is the best when it comes to this kind of thing but I hate it.
mpv+youtube-dl is actually the best at this. pic related
>using a framework to begin with
Reading the man page for actual CLI is bullshit, but reasonable bullshit
Pseudo-GUIs in curses that don't follow any sort of HIG are unjustified bullshit
>you need a manual for a fucking GUI because the programmer thought they knew the best command to save a file
>Also gets rid of dynamic linking bullshit and creates binaries that just werk
for any system, even ones whose architectures entirely differ from the host's
it's so fucking nice to build stuff for armv5 on a more powerful computer
Fantastic if you aren't a 4GB of RAM pleb like me
I dont have confidence that I understand what you're trying to say here, so I'll try pre-empting some possibilities:
* iTunes isn't a heavy application
* fuck you 4GB ram is plenty for a laptop, esp seeing as I'm not a gamer
* iTunes >> musicbee and foobar when it comes to load times, file management, and aesthetics
>* iTunes >> musicbee and foobar when it comes to load times, file management, and aesthetics
foobar2000 is an instant start, instant play, has gapless playback, updates its browser within seconds when files and folders change
itunes can't beat that on a good day
[Snide comment questioning your sexuality in regards to using an Apple product with several poorly thought out arguments as to why my personal choice of media player is significantly better accompanied by a captioned anime reaction image in an attempt to validate my claims.]
>iTunes isn't a heavy application
I know this is bait, but I'm going to reply anyway. As a Macfag, I'll just say it straight out that this is simply wrong. iTunes is fucking crap.
It takes loads of resources, can't play FLAC, Opus, ogg vorbis or any format other than ALAC, AAC, MP3 and WAV. Hard to manoeuvre, shit interface, bloated with bullshit features like Genius, Apple Radio, iPhone/iPad sync bullshit and their atrocious store that doesn't sell lossless samples. Its CD import functions are shit, no fucking equalizer, device syncing is dick and conversion functions are also horrid. Apple also deletes all alternative software to iTunes on the App Store.
Conclusion: Nothing about Apple Music is good. Use mpd+ncmpcpp or fucking anything else.
