Why not a cheap tablet?
Tablets are more natural for reading things like light novels/mangas anyways.
Chuwi Hi8 is less than $100 shipped.
>>
>>52587576
Dose this one have windows on it? I dont mind this I jsut thought windows tablets were very expensive.

I am looking at ''Insignia 8" Flex Windows Tablet '' just now

I have an Asus H100TA (Japan's T100TA), bought when I went to Japan last year. It was only sale for 35000 yen. It came with Jp ver of Win 8.1 home, so it's guaranteed to play most VN just fine out of the box without any tinkering. I upgraded it to Windows 10, and no problems so far.

Battery lasts on average around 3-5 hours playing VN, probably more if you're only web browsing. You can suspend mid-game, and most game resumes just fine.

Out of 64GB internal storage (59GB to the OS), 9 GB is reserved for recovery partition. Windows 8.1 used around 20GB (after I upgraded to Windows 10, it drops to 10 GB). The remaining free space is enough only for 1-2 VNs, since you'd want to reserve some free space for TRIM.

So I put in a 64GB micro SD, and mounted it as an NTFS folder since several VNs won't install if they detect it as an SD Card. I'm planning on upgrading it to a 128GB micro SD this year.

Several models comes with 500GB drive inside the detachable keyboard part, but I often leave it home.

> and will last for a very long time, at least until I die
It'll probably last 3 years, then you can get a new one.
>>
>>52587657
Thanks for this, that sounds like exactly what I need but the price point and how long it'll last is worrying man.

I would be okay with a smaller version of that running win 7, it sounds abit overkill performance wise for what I plan on doing.

This is a good website that lists and reviews a lot of different Chinese windows and android tablets. A lot of tablets even dual boot android+windows.

http://techtablets.com

The teclast x98 plus seems to be good if you want high battery life

http://techtablets.com/teclast-x98-plus/review/

The air iii if you wanta retina screen for very cheap

http://techtablets.com/teclast-x98-air-iii/

The Chuwei Vi8 is good too for under $100. The USB-C port only has USB 2.0 speeds though.

Chuwi Hi8, you can pick one up for less than $95 USD shipped.
They have an updated CherryTrail CPU version called the Chuwi Hi8 PRO which is about $120

I'm not paranoid, I just taped the cam because sometimes I get video calls through SKYPE or LINE that I forget to disable the webcam before picking up.

If someone video calls you in LINE when you pick up it starts up the webcam.

>>52587780
>I would be okay with a smaller version of that running win 7
The battery will probably be terrible. Smaller size = less room for more battery, Win7 = no newer Power Management features.

For all the shit that Microsoft did with Win8 and Win10 (telemetry, botnet), they actually did a good job on power management and slimming the OS down.

If win10 worries you so much, just don't use it for anything important.

ok you fully grabbed my attention now, this information is so good to hear.

At the moment this is my Criteria:

-prefer if it has support for wireless or even proprietary keyboard
-has windows for vn
-can browse internet like 4chan with ease
-has ok-decent battery life

Would you suggest Chuwei Vi8 or Chuwi Hi8 for this? I also prefer a smaller size but 8inch is okay for me.

I use the hi8 for petty much exactly this, with a bluetooth keyboard. Picked it up for about €85 with shipping.

>>52587949
Well, gotta have something that people actually use, I use Line extensively as I have unlimited 3G data for $15 USD monthly but no talk minutes so Line has basically replaced actual calling on my phone.

>>52587946
The Chuwi Hi8 has a 1200P screen and you can just pair up any Bluetooth keyboard to it.

I removed Android to free up space on mine 28gb total usable and W10 takes up less than 8gb. MicroSD on W10 64GB is verified working with people reporting 128GB+ being OK too.
>>
>>52588106
Okaythanks. I have a few more question please stay.

dose it come with windows install or you need to put your own? And roughly how long battery last if I'm just playing vn from 100% battery?

I only have a spare 16gb at the moment I will perhaps need to get a bigger size micro sd whch is fine because the price of the tablet is good value.64 Gb should be enough for me.
>>
>>52588171
New stock should come with Win10, old stock comes with W8.1. GearBest allows you to pick Eng when before shipping.

As for the battery, depends on CPU intensive the VN is. Full CPU+GPU load, wifi+bluetooth and full brightness should net you 3hrs I guess.

I usually get 5~6hrs of mixed use.

It charges the same way as your phone so a powerbank is also an option.

Oh, I've already wiped the device and installed W10 from scratch as mine came with W8.1 and android.

No suspicious activity as far as my router reports go.

You do need a charging USB OTG HUB if you want to install windows from scratch though.

Are there any cheap tablets that you can run Linux on and actually have driver support for the touch screen, wifi, and bluetooth, or are the only options for OSes on an inexpensive small computer now days shitty kid's toy tier, botnet, or a combination of the two?

>>52588914

It's pretty much Windows or Android/Remix these days for tablets.

The netbook in your picture isn't the same model, though it looks similar, and is significantly less powerful. The one in your picture has an 800 Mhz single core ARM A9 processor and 128 MB of ram while the one pictured here >>52588991 used a different SOC and can be had with a 1.5 Ghz dual core ARM A9 processor and 1 GB of RAM.

>VN
>raspberry meme

i'm a raspi guy myself and after reading your post I can see why everyone hates us.

Also i've gone your route and built that exact contraption you're talking about: it's shit. unless you have a bunch of woodworking tools or a (big) 3d printer, you end up with a jumble of 5 bulky, interconnected, fragile parts that simply can't be pulled out of a backpack or quickly stashed the same way a laptop or tablet can. and even if you build a custom case for it it sends up wayyyy heavier and thicker than a tablet would be.

2/10 kinda wish this was bait

I don't know of anything *that* small (besides the expensive as hell new Pyra coming soon^tm) , but if 9" is acceptable you can look into the Dell Inspiron 910.

Definitely a thinkpad running Linux then, everything else, software and hardware, is planned obsolescence shit.

Haha nope. If you're lucky you can get most of them running in Wine though.
