I exclusively download FLAC for my music because I transcode to vorbis for my DAP.
Encodes should however use lossy audio unless the FLAC is the same size or smaller than the equivalent AC3/DTS track.
An encode by definiton is made to save space by using psychovisual and psychoacoustic algorithms to remove data that isn't perceptible by humans.
Including lossless audio with lossy video is contradictory and redundant.

Well okay, lets do the maths. If, by your reasoning a FLAC track is 2GB larger than it's lossy equivalent and the average internal 1080p encode is ~10GB, then that lossless track is giving me an increase of ~20% filesize.
Furthermore, if I download 100 movies (and I've downloaded many for than that) then I've just wasted 200GB of data on my redundant lossless audio to go with my lossy video.

I never said it was worth it, but you're never gonna convince these groups not to do it. There are enough people who DO care and insist on FLAC that they might as well just keep doing it, again, they only save 1 or 2GB, so if a group wants to specifically make a small as fuck version without FLAC, they can, but for the most part they wont bother because hard drive space is cheap as fuck.

In terms of trackers I don't use, it's probably MTV (now that I have BTN/HDB), TehC, KG, bB, and SHD. I still use AHD a lot even with HDB/PTP because I usually don't download stuff from PTP, I download it from HDB/AHD and cross-seed.

If it's been on the site for 2-3 days then it's definitely safe to grab and transcode. If it's up for like x amount of hours...then you might be racing someone else.
