You have 10 seconds to explain why you aren't using the best and most advanced operating system on the planet. Silly memes like BOTNET and SPYWARE don't count.
Surprise removals of my 2nd HDD
Still going to keep trying new builds out as they release to the Fast Ring. But Win7 will be the go-to for my rig.
Windows 8.1 + Start8 does everything I need it to do.
But I can't choose which ones to apply, like I've been doing in W7. Also, there's a lack of information on what is in these updates. Going to the KB pages on MS's site doesn't give any answers.
>Big-ass Netflix icon on your start menu.
No argument. If you want to listed to tunes and play games and watch shows and just consume, it's a fine OS.
I hate how the Start menu looks like. Going back to a UI logic from 1995 just because most normies were too retarded to learn how to use a new UI is just plain oligophrenic bordering on mongoloid.
>normies were too retarded to learn how to use a new UI
You mean like in Windows 8/8.1?
It sucked tho
>tfw more kernel panics on linux than bluescreens on all versions of windows combined for me
I hate and love it.
>better workflow for me
>looks better than 7 in my opinion
>Even with pro the update reminder is forcing me out of fullscreen games
>changed my mainboard and now I have to call the support to get my windows activated
>that feel of being watched
It favours its default settings a little too much, and sometimes it's annoying to reach some settings, compared to windows 7.
in fact, I do use w10, because I'm too much of a pussy to use anything else
so i just got a prompt when i turned on my computer saying my windows 10 license expires next month...
i did a clean install on the harddrive using one of the /g/ guides when windows 10 just came out
any ideas on what to do? i really don't wanna reinstall everything all over again
I use, but windows 10 is a shit alpha SO.
This is a fact!
>the best and most advanced operating system
This is the oldest sales tactic in the book, and it only works on children. Appropriately, most win10 users are underage.
Hi! Few things to start off with =] 1. Yes I replied to you because you're a female techie, 'tis an awesome thing to see! 2. I'm Brian. 3. Don't be intimidated, but I'm not a stereotypical guy. If anything, I'll be the one in the kitchen =D.
It's OK in Win 8.1
Going back to Win95 Start menu is not cool. Not to mention now you have ads in your start menu? Wtf is that, you already paid for the OS, what the fuck are ads doing there? You only get ads in a product if it was free or demo. That shit is unacceptable.
This bait thread is posted every single day, and it always gets 100+ replies.
Why are people so gullible and stupid?
Every single thread they go on and on and explain their retarded reasoning. When will they realize nobody gives a fuck? It blows my mind.
>Reading ABC news from the start menu
>Not an ad
We shall see my gentile friend, we shall see.
I boot Windows 10 on my Mac sometimes to play games. It's a big improvement over Windows 7 and especially 8, but it's still a buggy awful piece of shit compared to OSX.
Just for starters, running in hidpi mode means a lot of programs are horribly blurry (including a lot of system dialogs!), and some UI elements are plain broken. There's also zero consistency across the UI: how many fucking UI toolkits does just Microsoft themselves use?? There also seem to be two totally separate - in terms of interface - OS preference systems, each covering various things with no rhyme or reason. Even Linux is more consistent and these days.
But at least they removed the tablet interface AIDS that was Windows 8. I really can't understand why people put up with this shit, except to play muh games (that could as easily be released on a competently engineered and designed platform like OSX).
...also I've noticed that games that support OSX and Windows (several of which I've played on both platforms), the OSX version is always rock-solid stable - likely a testament to Apple's OpenGL drivers - while the Windows versions will crash occasionally.
Windows also blow at thermal management, and basically any time it has to interface with hardware internal or external (relative to OSX). I really can't think of a good thing to say about it, except that it'll run on any random assortment of hardware you throw at it: but then the same is true of Linux and that's free, and free or malware.
+1 For my filter list
>I'm a woman
Daily reminder: Those who reveal their sex in an anonymous board for no good reason are called sluts, there is no counter argument for this
>no usable features (for me personally)
>silly functions like cortana & the appstore
>no customization options
>poorly designed interface
i'm a casual user and just want something that just werks. right now linux is that something
>practical reasons like SPYWARE don't count
I do something I and some others consider morally valid and in line with the US constiution. That thing is disregarding copyright after a self-imposed minimum of 5 years on the market, a minimum that only applies to things that can be described as belonging to the "useful arts". Entertainment without function such as video games, non-educational movies, and music gets no special treatment.
United States law considers that the worst form of theft short of stealing the president's dildo.
I do have something to hide. Something to hide from the law that has been twisted, mangled, and illegally set by lobbyists such as sony and groups like the (aptly named) MAFIAA.
However, I can not afford a five billion dollar lawyer or find a single judge that's not susceptible to media industry corruption - or that hasn't already been indoctrinated into the fallacious religion of "intellectual property" to the point of putting it on a pedestal above actual property rights, in the spirit of an effeminate frenchman instead of a principled American.
I can answer that OP:
>bloated as fuck, I think by this point it's the most bloated OS in the world
>a clean install uses 20GB, the SSD on my laptop is 60GB
>serves ads to its users
>default settings are intrusive
>several intrusive features are undisableable
>cannot turn off automatic updates, so I'm forced to sit there and let it update when I'm tryin to restart to access another OS
>does not compile C
>does not have a package manager
>can't rice it
>I can answer that OP:
>>bloated as fuck, I think by this point it's the most bloated OS in the world
>>a clean install uses 20GB, the SSD on my laptop is 60GB
>>serves ads to its users
it doesn't, you epic memer
>>default settings are intrusive
default linux is not usable
how is this an argument on /g/?
configure it holy fuck
>>several intrusive features are undisableable
stop using free home edition that came with your chink pad
>>cannot turn off automatic updates, so I'm forced to sit there and let it update when I'm tryin to restart to access another OS
stop using free home edition that came with your chink pad
>>does not compile C
neither does any other OS
they all use tools like a compiler
>>does not have a package manager
>>can't rice it
only valid point eventhough there are some themes you can download
take a look at deviant art for example
>it doesn't, you epic memer
yes it fucking does you shill.
just fucking look at the ads in Op's screenshot.
My dad upgraded to Win10 and that shit is full of ads. sure, you can make it so they dont appear, but that doesnt change the fact that it has ads up the ass from the start
what? In OPs screenshot?
ads? Do you mean apps?
There is not a single ad
the colorful pictures are apps he has installed from the store, linking their tiles to the start menu
and you can either uninstall the apps entirely or just remove the tiles from the start menu
>you shill like fuck against windows
>I'm the shill for calling you out on your lies and bullshit
go buy a mac and be happy you cockgobbler, but these epic /g/ memes are really annoying
Name a more bloated OS
Nice counter-point, we both know it's true.
>it doesn't, you epic memer
Yes it does. I use Windows 10 to game on and it shows me ads for apps on the start menu.
>default linux is not usable
"B-b-but Linux" no one brought Linux up except for you. Your only defense is attacking other OSs.
>stop using free home edition that came with your chink pad
Oh, so if I pay them money they'll stop sending my information to Microsoft? Gee wizz, what a deal!
>neither does any other OS
But Windows cannot, for the grace of God, ever compile C. There is no Windows C compiler. Even if you run GCC with MingW you're compiling for Linux.
I'm really sorry, but every other operating system under the Sun except for Windows doesn't require me to download installers from the internet and say no to 20 add-ons while hoping it still didn't install a bitcoin miner.
"most advanced" for fuck's sake, even *BSD has this.
>take a look at deviant art for example
I did. They more often than not fuck up some part of the layout. I just gave up, I only use it to game on anymore.
>ads? Do you mean apps?
Ads for apps. When you present an unrequested product to someone, we call that an ad.
>There is not a single ad
>Ads for apps. When you present an unrequested product to someone, we call that an ad.
but there are no ads for apps in OPs screenshot
>Name a more bloated OS
any Applel OS
>Nice counter-point, we both know it's true.
so the size of your storage devices is microsofts problem?
who the fuck has a 60gb SSD nowadays? still a shitty argument, really
>Yes it does. I use Windows 10 to game on and it shows me ads for apps on the start menu.
literally too stupid for windows, configure it, it's one tick in the options
or not even needed if you don't use windows retarded home edition for special needs people(tm)
>"B-b-but Linux" no one brought Linux up except for you. Your only defense is attacking other OSs.
ok so comparing it to other OSs is not an option? Why are we arguing then? We have no other options for an OS anyway then
>Oh, so if I pay them money they'll stop sending my information to Microsoft? Gee wizz, what a deal!
Yes. Geez, paying for software, who ever would do that
>But Windows cannot, for the grace of God, ever compile C. There is no Windows C compiler. Even if you run GCC with MingW you're compiling for Linux.
wow, /g/, ladies and gentlemen, didn't expect you to be this retarded
>I'm really sorry, but every other operating system under the Sun except for Windows doesn't require me to download installers from the internet and say no to 20 add-ons while hoping it still didn't install a bitcoin miner. "most advanced" for fuck's sake, even *BSD has this.
yeah or you just learn how to use google and find a proper program and not click the first link that leads you to totally-not-a-fake-site-that-steals-and-bundles-programs-with-their-ads-so-a-retard-like-you-downloads-it-here-instead-of-the-developers-site.ru
>I did. They more often than not fuck up some part of the layout.
yeah you never run into problems when you rice another OS
god forbid you have to untick one option
I use Windows for art (Surface Book), Linux for coding, and Mac for work on the go. Windows is decidedly more unstable than the other two, but that may be a consequence of what I do with it. (Pulling it away from its GPU several times a day while it's running.)
Definitely the most stable is Linux. Mac is pretty stable, except when it updates.
Windows is the least user friendly (or developer friendly), with it's severe lack of Unix terminals and horrible UI.
Mac is the most frustrating. I need a god damn third party app to maximize a fucking window. The file manager is complete shit. It constantly fights with me about file permission of system files.
Linux is the least fun. No art program that doesn't suck enormous donkey balls. It has Steam games though, which is nice.
You think Windows is unstable because of Intel's shit drivers for the Surface Book. I haven' had a BSOD on Windows since very early Windows 8, and they are WAY less common than Windows XP and Windows 7.
I have an iPad Mini and while it doesn't BSOD apps crash all the time and it has just randomly restarted at least two to three times in the few months I've had it. I know for a fact Linux and Android are not any less unstable just by the nature of the shit people do on them.
When will the BSOD meme die? Maybe when you fags stop trying to use Windows XP 15 years later.
I do, and not a day goes by where I wish I was back using my Fedora. It is better than Win7, I skipped 8, but it is just not there when it comes to comfy. Both KDE and GNOME beat the shit out of Windows 10 these days. I can't get my workflow right and I need to resort to Cygwin and Github shell for several tasks. Powershell is rather dank, I admit that, but it doesn't have the vast amount of tools bash has readily available. Too bad I need Win10 for dev platform currently.
Last straw was that KOTOR2 just doesn't work here while it worked on WINE perfectly.
Finally there is actually the thing with applications. For PDF reading both Okular and Evince smack the shit out of anything on Windows, for music Rhythmbox beats foobar2000, for mail either Evolution or Kontact pls.
I think it's unstable for many reasons, drivers being one of them. The Surface Book also has a lot of trouble turning on sometimes. I love my Surface Book. It's the best laptop I've ever owned. But Windows sucks.
>ads in the start menu
Since day fucking one I have never seen one single ad in my start menu, I don't know why people keep saying this. It instantly gives them away as never having even used Win 10 before and just following dem epic meems
I can't use my soundcard with it. It's an old Audigy ZS 2 Platinum.
When I installed it, windows wouldn't accept permission changes for sharing files.
My firewall doesn't work with it. It's an older version that allows real full control.
I use it. It could be better, but I like it more than Windows 7.
With a single powershell command you can remove all bundled apps. And Classic Shell is a better replacement for the new Start Menu, and has even more features than the Windows 7 Start Menu.
I like how the taskbar looks. It's flat, and you can barely see if an app is open or not, which pleases my eyes. The icons are smaller so it looks better and there is no 3rd party theme that can do this.
Besides that. Windows 10 is pretty stable and I have the same performance in my games. There are a couple of annoying settings like Telemetry and Windows Update, but you only have to change them once.
I have bene using Windows 10 for the past 2 weeks and have some answers to some of the criticsms some of the people in this thread are spouting off like mindless dumb bandwagoning sheep who can't think for themselves.
I turned my updates off just fine. Guess you just suck.
>Surprise removals of my 2nd HDD
oh herpa derpa >m-muh windows !!!
Also, on the subject of spyware and tracking, I have very easily subverted all of that using this tool https://github.com/10se1ucgo/DisableWinTracking/releases very simple shit. I also removed Cortana.
The ONLY PROBLEM I have with Windows 10 is that I can't fucking use third party themes and everything is fucking white. That's it. It's pretty much the same as Windows 7 other than that, only it feels much more optimized and snappy. I honestly have thought of moving over to Linux though because I just have no reason to stay on Windows other than C#.
The rest of your post is memeing bullshit but I actually do agree that this is a sore point.
Supposedly the Redstone update coming in July (think service pack) is going to address this.
it's pretty sad we've come to this
people have more trust in someone's probably rootkit filled malware from a torrent site rather than Microsoft
their reputation has gone down the loo pretty hard.
>and exactly how many people are gonna compile it themselves or actually check that it's the same file?
lol none. i wont compile it either. I trust them. quite frankly not everyone is as paranoid as you loonoix cooks
I am. And so far:
>Visual Studio buggy as fuck, worked fine on Windows 8. Randomly drops connection to Xamarin's Android emulator, so have to restart both all the time.
>every update resets my default program for pictures to Photos app.
>explorer works like shit since the latest update. Taskbar on second monitor shits itself every now and then.
>other unexpected glitches
Seriously, my El Capitan install works much better than W10. And that's a fucking hackintosh.
I'll continue to use Windows 7 original release with updates turned off until there is a compelling reason to upgrade. Thus far, I haven't seen one. Latest software doesn't work? Just use an older version then.

>"Looking Forward: Microsoft Support for Secure Shell (SSH)"
"As Microsoft has shifted towards a more customer-oriented culture, Microsoft engineers are using social networks, tech communities and direct customer feedback as an integral part on how we make decisions about future investments. A popular request the PowerShell team has received is to use Secure Shell protocol and Shell session (aka SSH) to interoperate between Windows and Linux – both Linux connecting to and managing Windows via SSH and, vice versa, Windows connecting to and managing Linux via SSH. Thus, the combination of PowerShell and SSH will deliver a robust and secure solution to automate and to remotely manage Linux and Windows systems."

DUBS AND I NUKE MY WINDOWS PARTITIONS WITH GPARTED
To be totally honest, it's not stable enough for my taste, it's still in dev (unlike what microshaft wants you to think). It updates and reboots without telling you, it still uses live-tiles, app store is shit, weird ass UI (in my opinion), too much like Win 8 (which was the system that drove me from windows, even with 8.1), and awful, awful driver support.
