I'm interested in getting into the fad of being one of many unheard of Youtube channels, mostly to pretend I'm being productive while I wait to go to University.

I'm currently using Antergos, but will probably start dual booting Windows 7. My PC is an i5 and 290 with a mini ATX motherboard, though, and the capture cards I'm seeing require the space my graphics card is occupying.

1.) Are there non-pcie capture cards
2.) Since I'll more or less start over when installing Windows, should I just get a new motherboard?

I personally used to use Action!, but I now use OBSStudio, both for recording my screen and for livestreaming, I think this is currently the best software for this, moreover it’s free and open-source.

I second this

If you're using an Nvidia GPU, there's Shadowplay. It's a part of Geforce Experience.

Thanks. Do I not need a capture card? I'll be the first to admit I'm not exactly computer literate beyond browsing. At most, I can make a basic calculator in Python.

Why not do a linux channel and milk the freetard money by talking about free software?

This. I stream using shadowplay and it's great. I replaced a dedicated 1st Gen i7 machine and the users don't notice any difference.

No performance hit either because it apparently uses the massive amount of unused shaders that's reserved for things like tessellation.

I don't know enough about Linux to talk about most anything; I just didn't like Windows 8 much and after trying 10 on my laptop I didn't want to ever use it again.

I have an AMD r9 290

Judging from the current content out there, that is not required.
You can take a digital ocean tutorial or a wiki entry from arch and make a video out of that.
Hell even a tour of your setup generates a lot of views...

Link to your stream? Would you share more streaming advice/help if I asked for feedback?

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
