I have a P8Z77-V Pro, and lately, almost every time I turn it on, it first shuts itself down before bios, restarts and I get a message "New CPU detected, press F1 to setup". When I do so, I'm taken to BIOS, which I just exit and it boots normally. Any idea what it might be?
I don't think it's the CMOS battery since the time is correct. Should I update the BIOS?
>>
>>52535480
do you press F10 and select "save changes" when exiting the bios?

Yes. In fact, that never happened before. It started happening on the last month or so (my CPU is almost 2 years old).

In C, I'm passing arguments using *argv[] in main. The question is :
Who the fuck would need a browser extension to check on all the threads of all the boards if there's one specific word ?
You. And ? no one else. That's how specific this is. And even if someone else wanted something like that, it would have to be a programmer to do it, and not everyone wants to learn and spend time doing this.

But if you know programming, even a little, just diy, that's not that hard.

the tl;dr is ~1000€

Basically, get a decent CPU (~250€ or more)
for the GPU get a GTX970, R9 390 or better
8 GB of RAM is enough, if you need more you can upgrade later.
don't waste your money on a SDD that will not gives your more FPS on your vidya games.

or do you really want this long type ? I tried the version you gave me and it didn't worked as expected.
I'll check what are the exact format for the long type. I don't remember, that I think that might be the bad format on the printf that makes it print a big number.

>>52536688
I'm checking right now.

it's a computer architecture problem:
negative numbers aren't really 'negative' on the machine
big positive numbers could also be regular negative numbers, it's all perspective

I have to use long for the calculations I'm putting this through, and yes, I noticed atoi only works properly with int. If I do long it gives me the big positive numbers again.

printf("inputChar here is %ld\n", inputChar);

you used %lu, which is only for unisgned long (%LongUnsigned I guess)
for the printf, here's the list. Just copy pasta somewhere
char %c
int %d
long %ld
short %hd
float %f
double %f
long double %Lf
unsigned int %u
unsigned short %hu

so, here's the problem

both my Xbone and My PC are connected to my monitor through HDMI, which then runs to my receiver with one of those 3.5 to RCA adapters (currently a Vizio sound bar, but I have a better receiver downstairs). problem is, the Monitor outputs really shitty audio to the receiver, and it just sounds bad all around (playing music through my PC versus just straight plugging my MP3 player into it sound totally different0
so, would getting two of these-

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1080p-HDMI-Audio-Extractor-Splitter-HDMI-1-4-to-Analog-3-5mm-Out-Audio-BIC-/391302034898?hash=item5b1b6b35d2:g:zMMAAOSw~bFWKkVA

-work out? I've never used any sort of splitter with HDMI before, so I'm not sure how they work, or even IF they work decently.

Since we're talking about that, totally non related question to /g/ but a serious one.
Last year I went on a zoo, for the second time of my life (the first one I was a child and didn't remember at all), and I felt really bad for the animals and I just thought those places shouldn't exist.
People didn't respect anything, throwing papers and other trash on the floor, giving animals food (even if it is forbidden), using their camera with flash to take pictures of bats which of course is forbidden, etc. There was a lot of things that I didn't liked with this place. There was also the space those animals had, which I find too small (and all my friend thought the same things).
Are zoos actually a good thing and I just don't like zoos, or is it really a bad places for the animals ?
What I agree with is the concept of nature reserve, which permits the animal to live freely in the nature, without having humans looking at them on a small place where they can't have a normal life, but zoos ? I just find those places abominations.
So zoos : good or bad ?
Or maybe I went on a shitty zoos ?
>>
>>52537349
Really depends on the place. There are a lot of decent ones out there, and there are a lot of shitty ones. I think in general the concept can be a good one.
>>
>>52537390
This.

There are zoos that take in animals that can't go back into the wild, but when animals are bred in captivity, taken from their families and just sold to other zoos is fucked up.
>>
>>52537440
What I don't like is how those animals are threaten in the zoos. I mean yeah sure you save them, but is it worth it in the end ? Seeing their lives I just find it sad.

1) Don't come with any ports installed, just port headers

rPi and co are nice but their bulky ports are restrictive if you're trying to prototype an end-user product and designing a board from scratch is overkill in earlier stages

Lately I've been having bad problems with GPU temps. Card is R9-390P-8256.

When watching videos anywhere besides youtube, temps climb higher and higher until they hit 60 degrees celsius or higher. Sites like Twitch or anime streaming sites, for example. Even after turning off hardware acceleration, both on firefox and on my computer's general internet settings, I still get this heat problem.
Furthermore, my GPU has climbed up to 75 degrees celsius under full load. Its idle temperature is apparently six degrees celsius higher than that of my friend's who has the exact same card.
I have nothing restricting the air flow to my card's fans. I have taken the top of my computer case off entirely and it still climbs in temperature. I confirmed that it is not the fault of my drivers, and there is no problem with dust.

Other factors which I worry may contribute-
>My computer is on a styrofoam block on the floor, but there is no fan on the bottom of the case, just an opening with a dust cover.
>My motherboard is a mini ITX.
>My GPU has two PCI-E slots; One is 8 pin, one is 6 pin. I was recommended to use both an 8 to 8 and an 8 to 4+2 connector separately instead of just using one 8 to 12+2+2 connector, and so I did as I was advised. Part of me worries that the card is getting too much power or some shit but at the same time I feel like that's impossible. I feel like a jackass.
I'll also answer any questions I can about this if it helps you guys help me with my problem.

the stock cooler (a dynatron, 60mm tall) is a little too tall to close the case.

is there a decent *really* low profile cooler that fits that socket? i'm thinking it will have to be under 55mm, and the Phanteks PH-TC90LS and the ID-Cooling IS-VC45 SFF are the only two that i can even find that seem to meet the criteria.

i thought about liquid, but there's nothing to which to hook up a radiator.

MB Air probably falls under "good enough", but:

1) It's focused on mobility, not power, so large projects will take longer to compile

2) 1440x900 at least isn't 1366x768 but it's still lackluster when it comes to screen real estate and if you use an IDE you're going to feel cramped all the time

3) HiDPI is definitely easier on the eyes. I went from a company-provided Air to a 15" rMBP I bought for myself and the rMBP causes far less eye strain.

I personally run my 15" rMBP in emulated 1920x1200 mode for all of the screen real estate and everything on screen is very sharp and readable.

I'm learning Java too, friend. I'd say try defining each letter by a certain number of zeroes with an array inside of a loop, whose zero count increases by 1 each time upon definition.

I haven't studied data structures too much, so I can't think of anything for your second question.

Now I have a question. How would I be able to apply a FileChooser to the main stage of an application in FXML? Is it even possible to do so in FXML? I can't wrap my head around how to utilize them however I want.

The answer depends on if you're a vegan or not.

Here's my opinion: Those animals have better living conditions than most people on the planet, whether they have freedom or not. They don't have to worry about food, safety, or dwellings. Even if they were running around in their actual habitat, they , at least the sentient animals, wouldn't have the time to enjoy themselves because, you know, the whole "eat or be eaten" thing.

I have a cURL request I need to send in a script. It has 5 form data items. Sometimes all five will have content (e.g. -F"x=123"/ -F"x=$xData") but sometimes they will have none (e.g. -F"y=" / yData=""; -F"y=$yData")
I want to send to the server only the form items that have content.

I don't want to send the -F"y=" if y has no content.
Is it possible to do that with only one cURL request?

Okay so I use megadl on arch all the time. I just type
megadl 'urlhere'
and it works no problem. I cannot find any working combo on my Debian file server.. Single quotes don't work and double quotes turn into single quotes but also do the opposite of what double quotes should do and start reading the symbols as regex..

Anyone had experience with this shit? Is there some simple solution I'm not seeing?

I usually download on my desktop and sync to the file server but I've got 6.4GB of free space left atm so I'd prefer to download straight to the file server until I decide what I don't need to keep on my desktop.

Question regarding hard drive care. I have a laptop with an msata ssd an a normal hard drive, I rarely acces the hard drive, only when I listen music so it sits idle for the most part.

Whats better for it, to leave it on all the time or to put it to sleep as soon as its not used? I heard startups are stressful in particular for the spindle motor but I also leave my computer on for days, sometimes weeks.
>>
>>52538525
I would say it depends how often you turn the music on and off. If you think you keep turning the music on and off then you will have to wait for the disk to spin up each time you start the song again. Whihc isn't very long. I would say it would it be good for power, I guess it makes sense it would extend it's life too.

>Zoos are shit and should not exist.

As >>52537390 said. Many of the animals in zoos can't live in the wild, were found sick and dying and brought to a zoo, or they're part of breeding programs to try and bolster the wild population. See the California Condor as an example of a successful breeding program. Or say a tiger kills someone Malaysia. You either have to kill the animal so it doesn't teach its young to hunt humans, or send it to a zoo. Not all the animals fall into those categories, but a lot of the big animals people complain most about have some disability that isn't outwardly obvious which would preclude their survival in the wild.

Let's say there's this magical library called 'ExtJS' released under the GNU GPLv3.
Let's say I've been paid a bunch of money to write a web-app for company x, and I want to use ExtJS in my webapp.

If I understand the GPL correctly, because ExtJS is GPL code, I have to also release my webapp under the GNU GPLv3. Which guarantees my client all their rights and such to the code.

I have to release my webapp's source code to my client.

But once my client has it, they are not bound to release the source code, correct?
Meaning if they want things super private, and want to keep the webapp and all its code private, they can do this, correct?

Airflow would also be a problem with a bigger card taking up so much room (if it fits). Honestly, it wouldn't be worth it at that point. I appreciate the help though. Thank you, kind anon.

In your opinion, knowing everything you know about the PC I have, which would you pick?

Here's a breakdown of everything:
CPU=Q6600 =110 watts
SSD=Samsung 850 Evo =~2 watts
Memory=2x4gb ddr2 =~ 10 watts (give or take some)
GPU currently=nvidia gtx 7350LE =~ at watts
Not too sure in how much the motherboard uses, but I'd say somewhere between 50-75 watts seems about right.

PSU=300 watts.

Which should I pick? 750 ti, or the 730?

BTW, I'm going to be gaming on a 1366x768 monitor, so that's the resolution I'm working with.

Well damn.

I've been using Debian GNU/Linux for about three weeks without dual booting to Windows at all. My browser is Iceweasel and I haven't had any problems besides a previously minor problem when opening youtube video it would sometimes randomly cause Iceweasel to completely crash and close without a single error message. At first I thought it was just a bug or something.

Yesterday the problem has started to happen with all youtube videos. I've even tried using mpv to open the links but mpv won't even start. mpv won't even start when opening video files from my hard drive (but VLC works fine). I tried restarting several times. Chromium does not have this problem, but I do not want to use it as Firefox/Iceweasel offers more customization and is more familiar to me.

What's causing the problem?

It may be the bug mentioned in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=797227

The solution may be to update gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad to the experimental version.

so I have a memelake and an nvidia 950

is that still too toaster for 60fps 1920x1200?

With this I see minimal frameloss/performance bottlenecking although the actual output is a mess.

The x265 output has random colourloss/artefacts and the audio is out of sync and even just plain stopped encoding after a bit.

Is this something changing buffer sizes would fix, or is 60fps a hopeless meme still?

I have been trying to get hardware encoding with ffmpeg to work but struggle to make ffmpeg notice the nvenc library.
ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -r 60 -video_size 1920x1200 -f x11grab -i :0.0+0,0 -acodec opus -vcodec libx265 -strict experimental -x265-params crf=28 -preset ultrafast -b:a 320k -loglevel warning -threads 7 -tune zerolatency /Scratch/Recorded/20160121_131534.25.mkv 2>> logfile

No, it's a standard for data, saying things like at bit X we will start transmitting Y data. The graph at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_Control_Protocol#TCP_segment_structure can probably help explain it, it's like an organization to data so that computers know what to expect when they get the data.

Not only are you installing a custom visual theme, you're overriding the default font rendering with Mactype. It looks like Windows is getting the text line height calculation wrong as a result. Windows is only designed to use a single font rendering engine so it's no surprise. Your only real option is to try different fonts and see if you can find one that works properly, or maybe turn off Mactype.

75 is not that high. Plus, your GPU is designed well nought that is can regulate it's own power draw.
Unless it throttles at full load (Check with Furmark),i wouldn't worry.
Even if it's badly ventilated, there is an automated system to shut it down (more like crash the whole computer) if it gets too hot, and even that limit is below what's needed for it to be damaged.
>>
>>52537639

75C is normal and safe operating temp under load, don't worry.

Also, removing side or top panels from the case might actually make things worse because it can negativaly alter airflow inside the case

Linux software cannot run on Windows. Cygwin provides a way to compile software designed for Unix into something that may run on Windows. I've never used it so I can't say what the limitations are, but given the existence of CyGnome I would assume it's possible.
To avoid compiling yourself you could also check out CygWin Ports which says it has a Gnome 3 port, as well as Nautilus, and Empathy. ftp://sourceware.org/pub/cygwinports/portslist.txt . I've never used it so I don't know the specifics of getting it up and running.
Alteratively you might consider using CyGnome though it's Gnome 1, not Gnome 3. http://cygnome.sourceforge.net/ They started a Gnome 2 port project, but it died. http://cygnome2.sourceforge.net/
Alternatively you might consider checking out GreenGnome instead. It's a port of Gnome 1 to Windows. The project is long since dead, and was from the XP era. http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=uk&u=http://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greengnome&prev=/search%3Fq%3DGreenGnome%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DhgC%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26channel%3Dfflb .
