ITT What's /g/'s phone?
>2 things you like
>1 thing you hate
Pic related, have the Cricket Wireless version
2 GB RAM
Cheap, very snappy
Resolution isn't the best
>Small and powerful enough to do whatever I need it to.
>Screen res isnt the best but Im fine with it
>5MP camera ruins me, esp when I want to take a good picture for a memory.
I am currently falling for the Moto G 2015 16 gb meme, but I am way too poor right now to even consider it.
Fuck I want one so bad now.
Doogoo X5 Pro
Entirely decent CPU and GPU
+ Nice specs for $140 and no lag/stuttering at all.
+ Runs cm13 Marshmallow with no issues whatsoever despite being a phone from 2013.
- No microSD slot, the only reason why i'm replacing this phone for a HTC One m8.
LG Nexus 4
had it for 3-4 years now
Positives - good support with cyanogen and constant updates
- great size, over 4.7 inches it becomes difficult to text one handed
Negative - awful hardware like battery and camera and no storage upgrade and a lot of stuttering and lagging.
Still though I quite like this thing and won't upgrade for another year
I can't seem to find a way to disable notifications for all Skype conversations in Messenger.
iPhone 5S (I think)
What I like
-FREE, it's a work phone
But what do you do for phone?
-ported my number to google and forward all of my calls
-give zero fucks about apps, literally the only app I have installed is SiriusXM + the work required 2factor auth application
-saved literally 1000s of $$$ over the past 5 years
-camera sucks, don't care, use my own "real" camera
-it's cracked, IDGAF
>really fast, fastest phone Ive owned by far, I can have every app I use open and it doesnt slow down at all
>camera is pretty fucking good
>Finger print readers are gimmicks
>holding it when its cold is like holding liquid nitrogen
I'm looking into a new phone and it's boiling down to either the Note 5, S6 Edge+, or LG G4.
I've been on an S3 until now, but the thing just kicked the bucket. I can't send or receive text messages anymore, and my outgoing calls have a 50/50 chance of actually working. Also all my apps just mysteriously stop working sometimes.
Was $75 off contract
Screen is LCD instead of OLED.
G4 is great but only buy a European variant for which LG supports official bootloader locking. Their current marshmallow rom has a host of problems and it sucks ass not being able to load up CM13 instead, let me tell you.
+ destroys all other phones in speed
+ great camera
- muh customization
+was only 300 bucks couple months before 6p was announced. Having marshmallow is nice, very snappy, games and apps all run great.
+everything looks amazing on the huge screen especially compared to my old tiny low rez phone. Despite that feels smaller than I thought it would and solid as a rock. Like I can sit on it without having to worry about it bending or anything.
-can kinda see some burn in on the little triangle circle square buttons on the bottom when I used the burn in tester.
>only 300 bucks
Still went back to trusty N5 though. N6 screen is way too dim even when modded. Also still unwieldy for daily use.
I don't see the problem on my g3.
Samsung Galaxy s5
Things I like:
Perfect screen size
It runs graphically advanced games like a mother fucker
Camera is decent, recording videos with this thing is an amazing experience
Amazing battery life (8 hours of heavy use, sometimes even 10 hours if you don't download anything or play games with play station 2 graphics).
Things I hate:
AMOLED makes my whites looks dirty
The cheap fake metal frame that peels makes it look like if the phone was a cheap phone, it doesn't give you that premium feel that the iPhone and other android phones give you.
That's literally the only bad things I could say about it, if it wasn't foe AMOLED fucking things up this phone could be easily a 10/10.
>1: Its yuge. 2: That fingerprint reader, that shit is nice.
>If a network has the same SSID for a 2.4 and a 5 GHz WiFi network, then I cannot connect. (Aka I don't have WiFi at my neighbor's house)
Zenfone 2 - 4GB
I had a similar problem with a wifi printer. I had a Cisco router that was set up with same SSIDs and it refused to recognize the network. Tried an Asus router later on and it worked.
I work in a phone shop.
Blu phones are a good deal. Straight to market unlocked phones, big screens, new one has 2 sim card slots too.
Also did I mention cheap? New one is like $225 and has 1 year warranty
- Fluidity of the OS. Stocks apps dont really need a replacement.
- Music App is GOAT
- My Note 5 supported Korean better.
Im so used to minimalism and ricing that I have the urge to change every thing but there's no working Jailbreak yet. Life is suffering.
It's been rock solid, dropped it many times and no damage I also really like that it's close to three years old and still very responsive and the battery still holds a charge and lasts for several days.
The fucking camera shit itself and anything I take pictures of now gets this obnoxious purple tint to it.
Thinking it's about time to retire it and get a new phone. Leaning towards either a Nexus 5X or maybe a Lumia 950.
Had this one since 2012
>SG Note II
>One of the best phones for custom ROMs
>Great battery life despite being a huge phone
Also the cases tend to have these annoying fucking flaps on the back.
iPhone 5 w/ 9.0.2 jailbreak and mophie juicepack
+nice 64 GB storage and size
-radio antennas starting to suck
Hoping that it will last me till the iPhone 7S, S versions are in my opinion better.
Fingerprint and KnockOn is absolute shit on mine as well, I hear they got an update coming soon to fix the fingerprint scanner.
Also, how do you get 2/3 days out of a charge? Mine seems to drain within 6 hours or so, and I don't use it too much.
Moto /g/ 2015
+battery life is amazing
-the screen isn't the best, but it's bearable
As an extra:
------- fuck you Motorola for removing the ability to silence the phone automatically at certain places with the moto app
Also, I don't get why people complain about the camera so much. It's pretty good for the price. It sucks at night though.
I'm on Verizon and got an update last week that fixed all my fingerprint scanner issues. It even works flawlessly with a case now. I've never used KnockOn, though.
Battery life for me isn't so great. I get a full day with light usage, but the screen on time is pretty bad. Luckily I can get two spare batteries and a charger for $30 :)
I agree, the screen-time accounts for most of the battery drain, aside from the Android OS. And where'd you find a sweet deal like that?? I'm in the market for new batteries for it!
My camera started shitting the bed in landscape mode recently, and half my music c oldest ion refuses to play, other than that decent phone. Looking at either a Nexus 6p or 5x currently though.
If you use a case it won't work, because it uses the sides of the phone also.
I also have an LG V10. Great cams the dual camera in front. Good processor. Big screen, etc, etc, etc
Asus zenfone 2
>snappy and cheap as fuck
>has the volume rockers on back just like g3 which is uncomfortable
I have the s6 active
Things I like:
Things I don't like:
So far unrootable
Looks like shit
Always amazes me that the tinfoils ( usually Alex Jones supporters ) of the world think they're important enough to be spied on by the government. I'm sure if they gave a shit about you. They'd be kicking down your door for your slimy CP.
+its lasted me a while and i dont see a need to upgrade unless it breaks
+unlocked bootloader for less bullshit
-screen assembly has come unglued in the middle on the sides twice now.(comon lg, get your shit together)
Galaxy Note 3 (N9005)
>Wonderful large amoled screen, great viewing angles and sunglight visibility.
>Overall performance is great, battery life is also good. USB3 is also nice to have.
>Having gone through at least 10 pens by now, 3 lost the rest were broken. And 3 batteries in about a year in a half.
Grand one of these batteries was a 5$ chink fake, but still.
>master race verizon
>8/10 camera, 4k video 20MP still
>2 day battery life
>god tier oled
>5.2", not retard huge but as big as one handed use allowed
only thing thats absolutely shit is the sound quality. a $30 usb DAP fixes that though
Still with my One M7
+excellent build quality
+good battery life (still lasts me the day with moderate usage)
-lots of weird glitches (noise cancelling mic is fucked, and everyone I call complains that I'm barely audible).
I still love the thing though I don't use it much.
I don't really care to get a new phone since I don't care for the 8K 10 inch displays and all the other battery draining redundant shit manufacturers are pushing for now. I'm sticking with this one until it implodes.
Do yourself a favor and buy a galaxy s5 from eBay for $150 or something.
If you are poor, don't buy new phones. Buy refurbs or used from reputable sellers/friends or something.
Another option is a G2 did $100-120. Shit is fucking amazing for that price.
That, or save your shekels and wait for the lg g5 to drop. The G4 is an amazing phone and will probably dip below $300 across the board once the G5 is available. You'll love it if you like taking photos - easily rivals the latest galaxies or the iPhone 6s.
T-Mobile LG G Stylo.
>2 things you like
Perfect resolution screen. 720p. 1080p is overkill for 5"-8" devices and 1440p is just placebo.
Snapdragon 410. Perfect for what I use my device for while using less juice/pumping out less heat than the newer house fire editions.
>1 thing you hate
No ZeroLemon battery case for it. This phone with a 7k+ mah battery would be fucking amazing. This is the only thing I miss about my note 3 before switching carriers.
Almost tempted to get a G4 just so I can get said 9k mah battery case.
>used to get 5 days of constant use on my note 3 with 10k mah battery on Android 4.4.4. Xposed framework and greenified and debloated.
Just turn on the gps, becomes a heater.
>excellent battery life
>the only time it has been laggy was when I almost filled up the 32GB memory, just transfered the videos and pics to pc, minor inconvenience
Camera is nice, often times use it to Id small insects, but that panorama stitching leaves much to be wanted. IPhone 5 and up has it down to a science.
Removable battery and SD slot
Most beautiful screen I've ever seen
Amazing camera. Fuck I could go on and on
While it has competitive internals, it isn't perfect in terms of speed. I've also dropped it a bunch so the glass is all fucked up
Honestly, it's the best phone I've ever owned, I'll probably stick with the Note line unless it gets shitty
> Redmi Note 2
+ Nice specs for its price
+ Slots: Replaceable battery and microSD slot, dual SIM.
- Xiaomi started refusing unsigned updates in the recovery, meaning you need to use adb in fastboot to flash TWRP / CWM before you can root or otherwise do stuff.
I'm not kidding this is my actual phone.
A samsung tracfone.
Why the fuck would I want to play flappy bird and snapchat people.
>iMessage (sending texts through wifi!!!)
So you mean, like whatsapp, telegram, BlackBerry messenger etc?
I have an LG G3
>muh stock dual window
>muh buttons on the back
>muh removable battery
>average battery duration, due to high res
>LG stock Rom is shite and slows phone to a crawl
>It feels Premium even if it's just a 250$ phone.
>It's better in nearly every way to my previous Nexus 5 (which I loved except for his shitty battery life even with undervolt/no bloat).
>Litteraly no good and stable ROM available except CyanogenMod
Also i'm scared as fuck to drop it, I feel like it would shatter easely compare to my Nexus 5 (Oneplus X is full glass)
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 3GB version.
+ It was only $150
+ great build quality
- Xiaomi released a "pro" version with Snapdragon 650 for only $30 more.
Fuck, I won't be visiting Hong Kong anytime soon so I can't get that "Pro" version.
Great community support
Very responsive keeping in mind it's a 2013 device
After I dropped it into a toilet I had to get a used display, and the one I got has some burn-in. Other than that my dead original display had none after 2 years.
comfy as fuck
smooth as a criminal
it's over two years old, which in smartphone years equates to seventy human years
had the same issue with mine, it's apparently pretty common. The back cover is poorly designed and sometimes it has trouble making the connection to the GPS antenna. There is a fix for this. Just google it.
5.7" oled screen
decent amount of custom roms due to same hardware as nexus 6
slow, disappointing mtp/usb transfer speeds
Zenfone 2 (4gb ram model)
>great performance even on bloated stock rom, no lag whatsoever
>pretty good screen
>respectable battery life
>overall very good for the price
>stock rom comes full of bloat apps and is stuck on 5.0 (fixed by installing a custom rom)
>really awkward power button placement (fixed by using doubletap instead)
so no real complaints
2GB RAM, SD410, expandable memory with mSD card, decent screen, relatively long standby battery life, runs CyanogenOS ootb so not nearly no bloat and quite handy privacy features, and most of all it was cheap (€150).
I hate that there is only 1 speaker, which is downfiring and located on the bottom right of the phone so when you hold it in landscape you easily block the speaker with your hand.
The location of the headphone jack is very inconvenient if you have a straight headphone plug and want to use the phone in landscape.
Lack of NFC is a bit strange for a phone released a few months ago, but I don't really miss it.
Memefone 2 (4gb model)
>Outstanding performance under pressure, easy to customize and mic is great.
>Has SD slot
>A lot of users started experiencing this
Absolute horseshit i need a new one
>not able to support 4g
>when tilted in landscape mode its like those old computers if you tilt the screen a little, half the screen's colours get inverted
>audio output is absolute bullshit
>pretty decent battery life
Samsung galaxy A5
+perfect size and nicely slim
+camera is good for a mid ranger
-touchjizz makes it a bit laggy at times
-720p isn't very sharp for certain things. Does make battery life good though.
Wish I kept mine, was a great phone. I don't give a shit about cameras and even then that thing still took great shots in the day time. Only complaint I had was the lower button being on the top. It was awkward.
Bought an LG g3 for $170 in November and have been enjoying it.
Only real downside is how long it's taken for a stable marshmallow rom. I ran one for a week or so but ended up getting some power off issues and went back to lollipop.
Just turn off this shit senpai
At first i thought the battery life was bad compared to my previous phones (note1, 2 & 3). But after like 4 days the battery seems to last longer.
It's because the rest of the phone is such a nice experience that the disappointing camera is so jarring - you almost forget that it's a budget phone until you start up the Canada and then it's like "....oh, right".
>2 things you like
Phone is not fucking huge
>1 thing you hate
Glass back, on every single phone is just a stupid idea. Haven't had any problems with it but I know it's an issue.
>official cm support
>swappable battery and microsd
gonna use it until it breaks I guess. Monthly securityupdates from cm are great, it still runs fast and other than my headphonejack I don't have any problems with it.
>camera is nearly unmatched (provided your UV filter is intact and not worn off
>more rugged than it has any right to be, being made mostly of glass
>Sony's little noise cancelling experiment with the headphone jack fucked it up, and it doesn't recognize most headsets with inline remotes
nokia lumia 920
owned since launch Oct 2012
+battery still holds up over a day
+matte body. none of the plastic/metal/glass bullshit
+qi wireless charging pad
+WP 8.1 smoothest OS (heard W10 is hit or miss so I'll probably get Android next)
+keyboard is best i've used on any device
+camera was better than competition for a year or 2 after release
-GPS gets stuck sometimes (use my android tablet for Waze).
-1280x768 resolution. Not a huge deal
want s6 active, a nexus with better camera, or sony z5 unless W10 gets less shitty in the next 6 months which I'm guessing is unlikely
Got same concern with mine
It gains percentage when I put it in my pocket lol, battery is a beast though.
>Motorola RAZR D3 XT919
>battery lasts forever
>touchscreen is too sensitive
>battery still holds up over a day
Must not be using it very much. wp has good standby tho
>keyboard is best i've used on any device
Haven't tried swiftkey?
>camera was better than competition for a year or 2 after release
>literally have the perfect custom ROM installed, all the right changes under the hood, no useless extras to trigger my autism, zero bugs
>the battery life is fucking insane
>the screen feels a little un-capacitive, but I guess that's to fix the screen issues it had
>LG G4 Stylus
>Large enough screen
>Better battery life than my previous phone, a Galaxy Note 3
>Buttons on the back actually ended being pretty good
>Knock codes are inconsistent
>The stylus is more of an afterthough
>Like the button layout
>Adequate for my needs (music, video, shitposting, etc)
>The 1080p screen is awful
>Battery life sucks
>This phone burns my fucking hand during long usage (since I live in the hottest place on earth..maybe even worse than hell so that is all on my end).
I'm at a laptop 80% of the day. IMO there's no need to do everything on a phone when the computer is the better experience period.
I used Android as my work phone for 2 years, swiftkey isn't as accurate in character by character typing. Nor does it predict my next word as well as stock Windows keyboard, even after using it for a year.
What phone do you use? What experience do you have with WP? The camera was better than iPhone 5, and is better than both Nexuses 5 and 6p. I've compared with my friend who has nexus 6p. Video recording on the 920 picks up music concerts flawlessly. For loud bass, it picks it up. I know from my friends shitty snapchats that other phones couldn't do this until about a year ago.
Also to add to my cons, the digitizer is indeed dying out so the display look like shit now. What's a good phone to change to now that I am long past overdue for a upgrade.
microsoft lumia 535:
>live tile UI looks great on W10
>cheap as chips
>shitty 3.5mm jack-in malfunctions after 3 months
>fucking disgusting camera perfomance in low light (pic related)
I hate being poor.
S6 edge here
>muh 1440p amoled display looks amazing
>very fast and snappy, as someone who plays with emulators a lot this is essential
Edges look cool and give a cool feel to the phone, but not really worth the price.
>so far unrootable as the AT&T version has no root available
>fingerprint reader blows
Apple because it looks good and because of the app eco system. It natively works fast and battery friendly.
Android because of the features and customizability. You can root and get rid of the botnet.
Windows phone because you don't want any of these things. Some colored blocks are enough to keep you satisfied.
What I like
>fast n snappy
>premium leather back feel
What I dislike
>LG UI, pretty ugly and very similar to touchjizz
>mediocre battery life
Overall I'm pretty satisfied. Very good phone.
>still pretty good hardware
>runs CM12 like a charm
>fucking broke piece of shit changed the battery after six months after I bought it, had to change the microphone and now I have to change the power button
This myth is so exaggerated it blows my ass up. My mother still has her Galaxy S3 which I bought her at a release day and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the screen. I checked it many times.
OLED screen is not a flaw of the phone. It's a big goddamn advantage. You will change the phone 2 times before you notice any burn-ins.
Huawei Honor 4C
>cheap, fast, good specs, confirmed to get android 6.0
>no custom roms due to muh chinese proprietary octa-core cpu
>8gb internal storage
The nexus 6. Goes on sale on amazon brand new for $250 3GB of RAM, Snapdragon 805 2560x1440 AMOLED
downsides are its size and camera is a little unreliable.
How the hell did you break the SPens?
Shit, man. How'd that happen?
Had that phone for a month. Loved every bit of it but the screen ghost-touches when my hands get even a little sweat. Shame, I liked WP because of it.
htc one m8
things I dislike:
planned obsolescence firmware updates
shit battery life no matter what I do
slippery metal back
things I like:
gets the job done
>Slippery as fuck drop magnet
M7 master race
- A design so good, apple copied it for the iPhone 6
- Still running everything, battery still OK
Hate: Every picture taken with that camera looks like LSD-vision, pink-purple from hell
same. Seriously think it's one of the best phones to come out in the past 5 years. I sent it in for warranty awhile back and the replacement I got did not have the purple camera issue.
Indestructible and awesome battery life
Resolution could be better
>unlocked everything(cm13 already stable af)
>headphone port on bottom
>stock jewgle bloatware
>stock android still sucks
>creaky battery cover(fixable)
>size(fuck big phones)
Give me this phone with a 5 inch screen, smaller bezels, and fingerprint sensor on the front and I'm fucking golden. The pros make the 5.2" screen tolerable.
Battery life is bad?
I'm on 6.0.1 and I get 5-6 SoT easily. Granted I don't use bluetooth, but everything else I do normally. I probably could pull 10 hours SoT with battery saving mode.
You're doing something wrong.
I haven't tried this but its suppose to work. In too lazy to find something to pry the back off. Google also has more results.
I only took off the bluetooth. Everything else is going at full Sonic speed. Most of the use is 1080p HD YouTube that takes up much more battery. I don't use the bluetooth because I don't have an earpiece, speaker, or some random keyboard.
If that is "tweak[ing]" then you really should go back to iOS, because they're 100% fit for you and your needs!
I also do work with phones.
They are cheap yes, but also go down with quality. Great for those who want cheap, but I'd rather sell them a unlocked Moto G phone for less return headache.
are there any good phones for around $120 on the used market? I was going to upgrade my moto g (2014) to an lg g3 but they overheat
Alcatel onetouch idol 3 (5.5 in)
+light android skin
+them jbl audio enhanced front speakers
+when flipped the screen will rearrange itself to face correctly
+so many things
-the ui is a little not so my taste, but I've become accustomed to it and its nothing a 3rd party launcher cant fix
+Camera still pretty much on top for quality of pictures
+Good battery life (when not taking pictures)
+OS is incredibly smooth after my Galaxy S2 and s3
+Using this phone in bright daylight is incredible compared to most phones I've tried.
-Camera is slow between pictures
-No SD...which is unfortunate since a raw image file is at least 30MB.
-App situation is still bleak, but I never used many apps on android so it isn't an issue for me.
-Taking video on this thing is pretty bad
+solid stock os
+s pen is really good, no calibration problems
-screen on battery drain is ass
-samsung bloatware is ass
Im over the roots and mods i did it to my note 2 and got my fill now its just use as a phone and such
>incredibly fast at everything even though it's a 2014 phone
>excellent battery life, with a bright, colorful screen
>looks like sex
>charges slow without fast charging cables
10/10 phone, will use forever until I do something retarded and break it
2012, Cmon, dont sell it too short.
Also, Samsung Galaxy S6
>Amazing 2160p 13 mp camera and 1440p res
> Insanely Fast
> Battery can suck depending on the usage.
>Camera Res isn't quite 4k
I came from an LG G2 so the no Micro SD card slot doesn't bother me.
Ellie goulding has a music video which was recorded using the lumia 1020. quality seems tiptop tho im not an expert. http://youtu.be/an4ySOlsUMY
can you still buy a 1020 anywhere? damn id like to get my hands on that beast phone.
+ very snappy, never lags
+ it's just so easy to use for me
- a $50 chinkphone takes better pictures
I also have an iPhone 4S, bought it just because
+ iOS feels good to use
+ I don't use a lot of apps, but whatever I use, works far better than Android or WP versions of that app
- it feels so fragile compared to other phones I've used. Like it's gonna break into pieces if I drop it from even just 2 feet
Google Sultan's custom CM builds. I'm using his version of CM12.1, but there are CM13 builds out already, not sure about bugs and stability since I haven't looked at it in a while.
I'm finally getting a new phone to replace my soon-to-be 5 year old SGS2. Will the Nexus 6p serve me at least 3 years even if it doesn't have a removable battery?
had to change the battery to my sgs2 about 2 years ago because it couldn't hold a full day so I hope this will be different.
>Holy shit. That's a brick, not a phone.
What good does it do you to have a 5mm thick phone? You realize it's fragile as fuck and has shit battery life.
>it's a brick
It's 12.7mm thick.
Sorry, I just get pissed off about this type of thing.
Moto X Play
Battery life and speed are amazing, especially for the price (only about £200 here in the UK). Oh and the stock Android and lack of bloatware.
Only complaint is how updates are sometimes a bit slow, especially considering it uses stock Android, and the headphone jack gets easily blocked with shit. Stupid complaints really, great phone.
Well that's strange.
It's pretty clear that the Skype integration in messenger is a work in progress, though. Hopefully they'll fix this and add some better notification settings for it.
Just because it doesn't have a removable battery doesn't mean it can't be replaced. I have the 5X and know that replacing the battery is doable. I'm not really inclined for things like that, so I'd probably just buy a replacement and get a phone repair place to replace it for me. They said they charge for like a half hours work for something like that.
