Work on small projects and make a GitHub and StackOverflow account. Those are great for resumes. Showing something concrete you worked on.

I think networking is a bit more of an "active" lifestyle because you might get woken up in the middle of the night if something fucks up and I don't like that whereas programming the only time pressure might be timelines or something like that.
