Why does the interface of every Linux operating system look like it is from the 1990's.

they are all pretty fucking ugly out of the box. even kde, xfce, gnome, etc require tweaking to look presentable.
>>
>>52480123
Yeah, I know. I'm really losing hope for Windows now. I might give it some more time and wait for the new big update and if that flops I'll probably just go back to running Fedora and using Windows only when I must.
>>
>>52480016
The kiddo actually believes that Windows 10 UI design is good, because it's "new" and "current". Kiddos reason (if you can call it that) that way, unfortunately.
>>
Lets not make this another 200 posts loonix troll thread please. Everybody can see that the OP retarded, no need to explain why.
>>
>>52480087
It actually looks quite nice. Comfy icons which have some actual work and heart put into them, not the flat single-color simplistic shapes that could be thrown together in Corel Draw by a schoolkid in a minute or two that seem to be prevalent everywhere since quite a few years already (will this shitride ever end?).
>>
>>52480123
The "minimize" button is not supposed to be a minus anyway. It should resembe and underscore, which in turn resembles a traditional minimized window on a taskbar.
>>
>>52480236
It really depends on the Puppy distro. Some look straight out of Windows 95, others look much better.
>>
>>52480078

Xubuntu 15.10
>>
>>52480849
How did you get it to look like that?
I recently installed Ubuntu and I've been meaning to find a way to change the Skeuomorphic look.

Is that an icon pack or something? If so, does it degrade performance or simply replace the existing icons?
>>
>>52480047
How ? Where did you get the nice looking WiFi thing from the default one in xfce looks like ass
>>
>>52480989
>>52481028
Numix theme, Numix Circle icons, Redmond Xfce panel layout.

Doesn't effect performance. Runs crazy fast.
>>
>>52479998
i mean it's literally an argument between neckbeards with no sense of style and interns payed nothing to design win10

at least on loonux you can just design your own

>>

XFCE. Works nicely.
>>
>>52480791
That's secondary, the point of a UI is to be a UI.
>>

Is there any way to change those dark grey menus back to white like this?
Also, why the fuck did they add so much space between lines?
>>
>>52479980
Actually, puppy linux is designed precisely to run on pretty old computers, considering that it doesn't look so bad, actually looks pretty standard to me.

>>52479998
>>52480016
>>52480045
To be fair, some mistakes on the design of the UI would be the least of my worries with windows 10, mistakes can be fixed or even patched by third parties but when something is shoved on the user's throat on purpose the history is different and if the source is closed defending yourself is way more harder.

>>52481138
For a beginner: XFCE, it's like using XP except that with more features and much more customization, i like kde more but i think a beginner will feel more comfy with xfce

I would guess

shadow-exclude = [ “name = ‘Whisker Menu'” ];

Anything that looks good usually can be used easily. Simply because it is not a direct causation does not mean there isn't a strong correlation between the two.

Look at windows, always adding new features that nobody really wants with each new OS.

I honestly think design has been moving backwards and KDE 4.2 to Kde 4.10 was the height of Linux interfaces and Windows Vista and 7 were the height of Windows interfaces. New interfaces seem lazy and lack any pizzaz. New icons lack the depth and dimention of older icons from the late 2000s era

>The whole point of a UI is to look good dumbass.
but thats wrong you fucking idiot
>>
>>52484175
Yes. Nice no-bullshit layout and style, well-designed and ergonomic UI elements, careful and efficient use of screen real estate, comfy icons. Not the ugly inconsistent silly crap that tries to be flashy and pseudo-minimalistic all at the same time in all the wrong ways.
