Just got google cardboard and have literally been laying in bed for 4 hours with a pillow over my head watching youtube steroscopic videos of oculus games.
can someone please redpill me on the cheapest machine build for basic requirements? I just want to play HL2 in VR dudes.
>have literally been laying in bed for 4 hours with a pillow over my head
The autism reached whole new levels: fags with contraptions on their heads, sensorily separated from their surroundings entirely for hours on end.
Does anyone have links to a web-based view into the oculus store / oculus movies / play VR / whatever ?
I'm buying a phone and I kind of want a GN5 + Gear VR, but I'd like to see what's available first. When I google I seem to come up with either faqs or reviews, but not a list of the things I can actually purchase if I buy the premise.
Read op's post, think he's being funny about the cardboard and just wants to vr really cheap.
>see all the reply's
>look up google cardboard
Holy shit this is real, wtf is wrong with people. If I see someone around town with this shit on there face, I dunno if I should punch them with it on, or pour water on it.
Why would you see someone around town with one on? It's a personal experience not a walk around town sort of thing
Also why would you want to ruin sometimes fun?
Go get a Google cardboard from Ali express or Amazon, you don't have anything to lose
Go explore the world in an afternoon
Stop being a shit head fuddy duddy
Try it out buddy, it's really not a fad, it is fucking amazing
The smart watches are likely a fad but once you experience a good vr it's hard to think of it as anything but the future of entertainment
I foresee a future where these will replace traditional monitors or tvs
>why would you see someone around town with one on?
With the "hey look at me, I'm trendy" society we have right now, I'm sure someone In a large city has this shit on at a coffee shop or some hipster shit.
It does sound kind of cool though don't get me wrong. Just wtf, cardboard?
No I didn't, but it does make sense, but still why would you plug that shit in without knowing whats on it. What if someone just shorted the pins inside the usb, and when you plug it in, it frys your usb port.
>just bought google cardboard
>haven't watched VR porn
booy you are missing out
just download through mega
and use "AAA VR Cinema App"
here are some more links-
(from VR thread on torrents board, i take no credit)
most work for the app, best fucking experience with porn in my life, shit feels real
It's made of cardboard so it is accessible for everyone
It was made for the Google keynote in 2014 as a goody bag gift that anyone can use, but they published the plans to make it and made the demo and apk available for all and now it has boomed because any company with a laser cutter and cardboard can make one, also there are a thousand companies now making plastic ones as well
Btw the widespread distribution of cardboard saved a kids life already:
you can use trinusvr and iz3d/other "3d driver", it's actually pretty decent if you have nvidia gpu and can stream image through limelight.
of course it's not even remotely as good as real rift, but well - it's free.
keep in mind that trinus does not emulate rift, it uses different protocols like freetrack.
it'll be like speakers vs (bulky) headphones, but with video tech. There will always be a place for head-mounted displays, but they are not going to be overtaking regular displays anytime soon. Maybe in 30 years it will be 50/50, if they are heavily adopted
It's an introduction into virtual reality you fucking homosexual
not everybody is going to buy a fucking $600 oculus rift
cardboard might not even be 40% of the experience
but it is enough to show people the potential of virtual reality
nobody fucking uses this without their door locked faggot,
because it's virtual reality you dense mother fucker
ok ive never tried one, im sure theyre cool but anytime you have to place items on your head and hands its an instant turn off, if not straight away you will get sick of it
google glass failed for this reason
I have never tried google glass or wearables or any of that other shit
but the google cardboard I keep coming back to
I can lock my door, turn off lights, and have the best fucking porn experience whenever I want to
VR is fucking awesome, you should definitely try it out for yourself
i havent gone back to regular porn in quite some time
ok, its not completely real because you are using your hand,
but when her tits come in your face and she give you those looks and shit
it feels fucking 10000% more real than 2D porn
shit is fucking cash, euphoric
here is where i have been finding all my links for past 2 weeks
sometimes the mega files do not work because they might be meant for rift, but 90% of the time the mega files work for mobile
i can guarantee it will be your best porn experience yet though
absolutely worth it
>from VR thread on torrents board
They got a VR thread going?
I am so fucking there.
(Also on holidays, so I won't be able to watch this till I get home.)
At least I'll be able to start the download, god I love remote access.
Alixpress everything is cheap, fucking dont care everything under 2 dollar but above I do. wont spend 20 on a piece of shit cardboard while in china they sell it for less than 2. where u from faggot
Have a S6 and a GearVR. Thought this whole thing was a meme but it fucking isn't. Watching twitch streams on the cinema feels like you are in a cinema. Netflix feels like you are watching it on a big screen too. Unfortunately it's only one screen. Wished it was available for the moon screen and cinema screen too. Quality is watchable and quite decent but not crystal clear, but I watched a movie just fine. Need to try out porn though, thanks for the link anon.
AAA's not perfect for interaction in VR but for everything else it's the best there is so far.
And I'm not sure what videos anon linked to but I usually use it in 180.
Aussie here, I got pic related for $12USD.
Best set I've used so far, notice the slanted vents on the front, and ignore the logo, they're all the same, with or without.
For me it's actually pretty good.
It's changed massively recently though.
>and don't output video to monitor
As in what, just have a headset plugged in through HDMI/a dummy plug and the video streamed to your phone?
No-one uses this outside of their bedrooms anon.
>There will always be a place for head-mounted displays, but they are not going to be overtaking regular displays anytime soon. Maybe in 30 years it will be 50/50, if they are heavily adopted
Said everyone about headphones when the walkman came out.
How many people do you think use speakers to listen to music now ano
>It's been 50 years since the walkman came out
Well fuck, but still.
I bet it'd be something like 98% of music's on headphones, 2% on speakers.
It would have been far over 50/50 as soon as the iPod came out.
Lenovo just released something called the lemon 3 or some shit, yeah, Lenovo Lemon 3, it's got 2GB ram and a 1080p screen for $104.
You anon might be interested.
Thanks anon, I'm ripping everything now.
I've only been using the stuff I can find on torrent sites, so only *realPorn.
Glad to see there's a few other studios out now.
How does this actually work then? Does any device just go in and any video goes Stereoscopic or is it just certain shit?
It's cheap af but I never really saw much reason for it.
Well that's kinda shit.
>Which 180 mode?
I haven't got my phone on my so I can't check, I usually have it on SBS 180 for side by side 180 videos, and on the second screen leave it on default full control.
Might wanna adjust the zoom to suit your video though.
The VR interface is garbage, but I just deal with it.
Switching from 360 to 180 in VR doesn't work for me, so I set it all up beforehand.
Once you've got it right it's great. Just skip between videos and shit.
Two eyes, two slightly different images.
If it has a 3d video it'll give the screen n each eye the proper image, if it's a 2d image it displays the same picture on both screens.
Google's uses the phones gyro, GearVR uses additional Gyro's and only works with select samsung handsets.
That said, GearVR's far closer to the rift than cardboard, but it's a smaller ecosystem.
I bought a couple actually, and one came with a little controller.
I'm using a Zenfone 2 in it, I think it's the 5.5" version.
Getting games that work with the controllers can be a pain.
It might, depending on the headset you use.
4.3" is bare minimum.
Try it without a housing to make sure the gyro works with the apps, but the nexus devices are usually all pretty good.
No, it's the minimum. It's the recommended minimum hardware level for a playable experience. It has to drive 2 1080p monitors at 90hz+, the gtx 970 struggles heavily at 1440p maintaining 60 fps in most recently released big budget games
Is this for real?
With a cheap FPGA it might be the cheapest solution to get a display.
$19 for pic related (with my Nexus 5)
I've been showing this to everyone and we all agree: it's amazeballs!
I tried only one VR porn clip from adultamerica after reading a reddit (I know, I know) thread that a past anon shared on /v/ (https://www.reddit.com/over18?dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2Foculusnsfw%2Fcomments%2F3bxkvf%2Fnaughty_america_is_in_the_game)
I didn't like the clip. :-(
One, that's 3.5".
Really fucking under the limit for VR, no matter the holder. Your eyes are just too far apart.
Two of them, actually, that might even work.
Two, the res is around quarter HD. That's 480x640 per eye.
But if you're using two, eh.
Then, getting a custom board working for this thing would be pretty hard.
I'd be surprised as shit if it used eDP.
Not even the iPhone 6's screen is anything near what you get in the $100 Lenovo Lemon 3.
I'm guessing if you shopped around you could find a 1080p 5-6" panel for $30-50.
The 4's just not worth the hassle.
Again, cheap is good, but it's just too small to work.
Let me look... The nexus 5's is 1080p at $30 in single volume.
Tap into that shit and you have a DK2 for $100.
Literally an iPhone 4 display.
Anon did you already know about this?
I'm ordering this shit now.
Get a display for what? Cardboard needs the phone's sensors to track your head movements.
Immersive 3d with no head tracking seems like a vomit machine.
Or am I not getting what you're trying to do?
I think he's working on the whole DIY Rift idea.
HDMI input from a computer.
With a $30 nexus 5 screen, a $60 combined FPGA HDMI to DSI with Gyro, and a $20 casing, you'd be in pretty good shape.
What's best/cheapest Cardboard version to get??
I looked it up, it has too low resolution, and it is too small. Thanks for the explanation.
I saw this years ago and it popped in my mind.
The whole thing could be thrown together in no time. The pcb can be reduced to half as big, the fpga would appear as hid on the usb side of things and worked as a 3d mouse.
It's normally priced at $30 on Amazon and other retailers, but Amazon has been selling it for $19 for the past several weeks.
>needing a separate headset for your 3d
crosseye 3d is where it's at, you plebs
better resolution than anything you would get with a helmet device, uses the display you already have, just looks better in general
>tfw watching a full movie in native-eye 3d with no extra equipment
That's already possible, at least in Nvidia's OpenGL implementation. Dunno about D3D, seems likely though.
Basically you can request that both GPUs handle the same commands, probably avoiding a lot of driver overhead, but then pass them different camera params using a special BufferData call just before you draw stuff.
>98% of music's on headphones, 2% on speakers.
It's different; wearing headphones doesn't make you blind and unable to move without stumbling into a wall like wearing a head-mounted display does. Also, you can fit the walkman in your pocket. With a head mounted display, you are wired to a huge ass computer
>implying the computer has to be big to be able to do VR
That Viewmaster is better than the crappy cardboard ones, but a few things to consider.
1. No head strap
2. No holes for wired audio
3. No way to control it while enclosed
You will need blue tooth headphones, keyboard, and stick anywhere velcro for hands free.
download any SBS 3d movie, they're everywhere on trackers, especially private ones
most of the time you have to run them through a short avisynth script to flip the frames, they're not switched like they need to be for crosseyed
Depends a lot on the person, content and equipment used. Many things can go wrong with shitty VR.
For example, a display that doesn't match your interpupillary distance will leave you watching stuff cross-eyed; if you somehow get used to it you will feel cross-eyed when not using the device. More likely, however, you'll just get a headache and feel like your eye muscles are cramping. Better devices let you adjust the distance between the lenses and tweak the displayed content to match that. Badly produced content that doesn't converge properly or just moves too much to let you focus on anything will probably do the same thing. Also, laggy head tracking is very likely to leave one nauseous after a while.
Stuff like this is why the Oculus team keeps saying they have one chance to get this shit right; if their gear ruins somebody's vision or leaves people puking into their keyboards VR is going to be over for another 20 years.
what is the point of a vr headset? like what do you do with it ??
Should be fine for watching videos and stuff, assuming the built-in gyro is stable enough when you're not moving. If the stock Cardboard design doesn't work with your face you can always make a new "plate" for housing the lenses from some cardboard and tape.
Porn and waifu immersion.
but what about something like google cardboard? you're not going to be playing games other than shitty proof-of-concept apps on that, are you?
Thoughts on this one?
What's with this guy and wearing VR headsets?
It's not amazing. it's cheap as fuck and you can tell but it works suprisingly well. The problem is lack of content, which you can alleviate with programs that stream from a PC if you have a gaming PC, and the cardboard app shows you apps.
There's no Netflix, which can be a big deal if you're hoping to watch movies on it.
If the screen is 1080p it'll be okay, 720p is the lowest you should try
Just note you might have to fight innacurate sensors drifting which can be annoying as fuck, resetting the phone or laying it on a flat surface as you start the app seems to help
Best way to take 2d music vids and convert to some type of 3d to make my nostalgia fans even better
Because they're even cheaper, you can get them for dollars
Also if they're actually Cardboard compatible your phone can adjust the size and distortion for a more natural look, everything looked "big" and way too close until I did that
I can view some VR videos alright, but I can't get a lot of other stuff to work right, the images are split up as if I wasn't using cardboard and had it close to my face, is this a common issue?
