You'd be lucky to even have a job with any loonix degree, much less a sweet job.

i already had expirience with linux systems engineering, so for the rhcsa i studied 2-3 months to be fast at the exam, same thing with rhce.
don't listen to the trolls here, people that have skills with linux are in high demand

Yea right, everyone is going to connect to a random IP running a web server at some high port.

If people with linux skills are in 'high demand' then Windows Server/Azure admins must be swimming in gold.

Where I live, Trixie HR chicks pick out the graduate or student Chads and then invite a few they personally liked most for an interview.

The company must be thriving if they only hire chads.

That's how it works here, corporate offices full of twens and almost only them, older people basically in management positions only. Twen HR damsels are often mistresses of middle- or higher-executives (who gave them the HR job in the first place) and can pull strings to make a department manager's life miserable should they complain about all the Chads that are sent to by HR to choose for hiring.

http://forum.gazeta.pl/forum/w,23,141617467,141617467,Drugi_i_trzeci_etap_rekrutacji_z_czym_to_sie_je_.html
A thread about recruitment processes in a popular Polish forum (title means roughly "Second and third stages of the recruitment process - what's this all about?". Below a translation of one of the posts made by a person claiming to be a female department manager at a Polish corporation, what she says pretty much hits the nail on the head.

>HR departments could easily be shrunk to 30% or what they are. I can tell judging from the corporation I myself am working for.

>Ignorant damsels who studied psychology at some third-rate pseudouniversity are designing strategies, employment plans, populating spreadsheet tables with much fervor, masturbating to terms such as "soft skills", and once they send somebody over to my department for a final interview, I am lost for words and throw my hands up in despair.

>Once I somehow managed to lay my hands on a batch of CVs which they had filtered off, and it turned out that there were at least two excellent candidates there. By means of some more trickery I got them (the excellent candidates, not the HR damsels) hired and I'm very pleased with them.

>Unfortunately, the HR damsels proceeded to complain to one Very Important Gentleman about how I have been sticking my nose into things I supposedly have no clue about etc. I ended up not losing my own job over this "incident" only because I'm quite a veteran in this company and my departments is working like a Swiss clockwork (and that without any bullying on my part whatsoever).

>From the above I have to infer that those HR damsels surely must posess certain "SOFT skills" themselves, which may not be readily perceptible to me as a woman, which however apparently are very much perceptible (and probably more than just that...) to the Very Important Gentleman.

I was 1st choice apparently, so good i suppose.

>>
>>52472782

My work paid for a one week speed class and test. The class was really neat, and the test was challenging.

You need like a 250/300 to pass and I got a 180 or something. Some people from work also in the class got a 0/300. Only 2 out of 15 people in my class passed. They say that almost everyone fails the first time, and at $400 a pop I'm sure as shit not gonna pay for it.

>tfw I will never get this lucky

>>
>>52473243
it REALLY doesn't take this long to study for the rhcsa.

if you're a neet you can do it in a month, at most.

all the rhcsa is, is what you already do on linux, basic file management and linux maintenance work that goes into a little bit more detail.

if you already have a understanding of basic linux shit, like file permissions, kernel modules, user administration, and how to turn on and off selinux, you'll be fine and can easily study and obtain your rhsca under a month.

rhsca is basically "i know linux" certification.
>>
>>52482308
I seen the test is all lab simulations. Where can i download labs?
>>
>>52479121
did they ever use linux beforhand?

>>52482308
>how to turn on and off selinux
lol this
that was the only question on my exam about selinux.

others where easy stuff like "configuring and setting up ntpd"
>server 0.ca.pool.ntp.org iburst
>service ntpd restart
stuff like that.
>>
>>52482433

Yes, they worked for several years as System Engineers on primarily Redhat 6.X systems.
>>
>>52482714
did they never pay attention to what they were doing?
>>
>>52482714
how did they not get it? rhcsa is extremely easy to obtain. anyone who actually been using linux for 5, 10 years should have no issues achieving it. its all basic linux stuff.

do they just work for the job or work because they actually like, and use, linux themselves?
>>
>>52482784
>>52482823

I'm betting it was unfamiliarity with the test.

That and the first thing is to configure all the network and infrastructure does all that for us. No network = no grade
>>
>>52474002
I worked a couple of years with people who didn't know what the fuck they were doing. I eventually left because they promoted people who were "charming" over those who knew what was going on.
>>
>>52482927
yeah i can understand being unfamiliar with the test. being a week study then test course it could be very daunting.
>>
>>52482958

Yea, also it was a week of us going 'yea yea, we got it." and then skimming over topics because we thought we were hotshots.

The instructor was an EXTREMELY knowledgeable woman. She clearly had her shit down.
>>
>>52475403
is that /pol/ moon man? wtf?
>>
>>52482944
this sadly is extremely common, not just in "IT" but all sectors.

hr and management love friendly bullshitters.

as long as you know "enough" they don't give a shit as long as you can bullshit just like them.

they will gladly pass up, fire, and flat out ignore people who are truly good at their job if their not "show off, keep up with the jones, extremely social, bullshitter."
>>
so question here
im a linux noob using openSUSE
If i want to pass the red hat exam, can i use any distro, or do i want to main fedora or red hat?
>>
>>52483165

Redhat 7, if you want to pass.

There was a guy in our exam who got up after 15 minutes, shaking his head, looking defeated. Don't be that guy.
>>
>>52472782
I got LPC II instead.

Certs really aren't that important in linux as compared to vmware/microsoft/cisco
>>
>>52483203
Would i need to set up a server? or just learn the commands on RH7
>>
>>52473336
Linux is much more high demand and higher paid that windows.

1) There are less linux admin
2) There are as many or more linux servers in every datacenter

Source: I'm a sysadmin (primarily windows), my linux admin buddy put out his resume and found a job that pays 130k within 1 week. It took me 2 months and I found a job that pays 105K. (our company moved our datacenter to a different state so it was obviously time to jump ship).
>>
>>52473917

Is this just doable in the US, or is it possible in bongland, and if so, is there demand for it? It's quite expensive

Just get CentOS, it's literally the same just without Red Hat branding and without the support.
>>

remote jobs, remote hours.
More along the lines of project based/ maintenance but typically its around 6hours of work on a Thursday.

>>52483336
I intern at an engineering firm on the side, that's the true meaning of underpaid.
>>
What is the difference between centOS and red hat, i thought red hat is in more demand?

>the rest are good liars and made it up this far, and since you fucked up , you must pick one lucky bastard and train them
>>
>>52473336
But Panjeet, most servers in the world run linux and one of the most used OSes is CentOS, made by redhat.
>>
>>52484986
They're basically the same. CentOS is basically a rebuild from source of Red Hats packages, and then rebranded. Red hat makes their money by supporting the systems, since they can't sell the distro itself.

I'm probably going to download and burn a copy of one or the other later and start working towards a certification, since I like Linux a lot. If Linux truly is a meme, then I'm really committed to the joke.
