Why do people build mini-ITX/Micro-ATX systems?
Is small technology just cute?
>Is small technology just cute?
>Oh god the guilt is overpowering
>But my boner won't go down
Agreed. Please do not post this image any longer.
It depends on what you want and what you're going to use it for to be honest.
I'd say there are five cases out there that are "the best".
>Corsair 240 Air
>Phanteks Ethoo Evolv ITX
>Fractal Node 804
Personally, I use the Prodigy and can tell you it's a great case if you're going to gayme. It can hold some of the bigger aftermarket coolers, but keep in mind it's going to be a tight fit.
All of them can probably fit most coolers, ATX PSUs and video cards. I have yet to read reviews that say otherwise to be honest.
I would say if you want a portable case, I'd get the Prodigy, it already has handles on it.
If you want the Prodigy without the handles, get the 250D.
If you want something a little more intricate than the 250D with better cooling, get the Air 240. Also if you want a Micro-ATX option.
If you want a budget case with really good cable management, get the Phanteks.
If you're going to watercool, you could use any, but the Node 804 is pretty well-noted for being a great watercooling case for a mini-ITX system.
All of them are good cases. Personally I might get the Phanteks as it's a little bigger than the Prodigy and putting the Prodigy together was a pain in the ass due to my big hands and the fact that I never built or handled a small form factor machine before.
I love my Prodigy.
As for OPs question - it's a meme, unless you live under stairs like Harry potter.
Love these guts though.
I want to build a small form factor pc to use as a HTPC, local network file server, and torrent box. A normal sized mid-tower won't fit on the shelf under my TV next to my cable box but a mini-ITX / micro-ATX build will. I could toss in one of the next-gen APU's from AMD when they come out and even be able to play some older games on the TV in my living room if I wanted to as well.
I like my case but every time I see an ncase I just want to throw everything out and start over
but then I look at my wallet and realize I cannot justify spending $180 on aesthetic, especially after buying $60 PSU cables
I bet it gets bad cooling though.
I mean, don't get me wrong, it's really cute, but where's your PSU anon? I don't think my PC needs to be THAT small.
It's not like I live in some closet in Tokyo.
>Why do people build mini-ITX/Micro-ATX systems?

I was stating my reasons for wanting to build a small form factor pc to answer OP's question. I'm sorry for not responding to the obvious loli bait thread the way that you wanted me to.
Not him, but I wrote that long post.
Honestly if you aren't going to do anything strenuous to your machine, you can always just get a Lian-Li case. They're kinda expensive though.
I like my loli just like anyone else but let's keep it on topic.
onboard NIC/sound + death of optical media + separate NAS machines becoming popular = why the fuck do I need some big ass empty case for nothing?
seriously, mini-tower workstations are seen by anybody close to normie as being clunky archaic devices.
here's what all a case really need to support except for the top 0.5% of users:
> 1 3.5" drive bay
> mobo with enough space for:
> - CPU
> - 4 DIMMs
> - 1 16x PCIe connector for full length double width card
> - m.2 drive slot
> ATX power supply
even the full size GPU is probably overkill with the advent of HBM based cards
As much as I hate this word, you newfags better know your god damn place.
This is techloli/g/y and you can kindly GTFO if you're offended by drawings.
Sure, because you don't live a sad life all alone in an apartment with around 50 square feet of space, a shitty computer/iPhone, and your mother as your upstairs neighbor, because your "apartment" is actually your parent's basement.
How can a real girl even compete? She is perfect.
I wouldn't like loli if real women were not so gross.
>living in a two bedroom
>with a roommate
I'm not saying that's not a fine way to live, but I wouldn't go bragging about it on the Internet. I still don't believe you have an apartment, or someone willing to live with someone as obnoxious as you.
thank you, you've been a great rube, I hope to see you in future threads.
Thank you for Playing! :^)
everyone has to pay bills retard and i have more than enough space for two people the two of us dont even use one of the rooms in the place
>get a decent job
why when i live comfortably with the 36 hour a week job i have
I meant a job that comes with utilities, WiFi, and HDTV included, at $70/hour before counting those benefits. I have 4 rooms that I don't use, a guest rooms, and 11 rooms that I do use.
I work 20 hours a week for 43 an hour I could work more but why my house payment is only 440 for a 3 bedroom house I live by myself and save a little over 1000 a month in retirement every month.
Well, I mean, you are the straight and narrow dude, are you not? I'm sure you have the required 4 years of generic job experience, unless you were lying.
You aren't the guy pulling the anti-pedo autism/b8, are you?
Then yeah, I wouldn't advise switching from whatever job it is that pays that nicely for 20 hours a week. What is it, out of curiosity?
True, buy I figured the dude who's such a rule-follower he thinks lolicons are pedophiles wouldn't have anything stopping him.
>TFW you're a cute loli using a mini-ITX system
>Not being able to fit your computer into carry on luggage with ease
Sometimes, it's great when you bring a really sick person back but it's intolerable when old ladies bite you or man children lose their temper and demand we treat their headache when a guy is on the operating table with a heart attack. Have had one guys mother (he was 28) scream at me "I DON'T CARE YOU WILL TREAT MY SON NOW" Lotta meth heads but overall it's satisfying.
iPad3 LCD + Abusemark eDP-DP adapter in an iPad 3 shell so I can use accessories like the stand.
With that CPU heatsink I think I was getting 60C Max with my 3570K @ 4.1, GPU was 80C because reference cooler.
I only had the side off to show off since I was at Quakecon.
HG Overflag, Dark green tamiya spraycan with some white primer accents.
I also left off the wing/thruster stuff and the propeller part because they're gross.
Not yet, though i'm thinking about it.
Debating on using noctua's paste, or Coolabs liquid ultra when I do.
To my knowledge it is.
It definitely looks great.
9.7" diagonal if I'm remembering right.
Also there's no reason you /have/ to use an ipad shell, you could literally mount it on some 2x4s if you wanted to.
Tek Syndicate used the more expensive adapter board and glued a lamp arm to the back of it.
Guess I'll use NT-H1 since I'm more comfortable using regular thermal paste.
It does, but I'm not one for transforming gimmicks, which is why I took the kibble off.
But yeah, it's a cool figure, gunpla is addicting as fuck.
If you like shit that transforms look into Zeta Gundam and Wing Gundam.
>he doesn't stack these to the ceiling and use it as a gun safe
>not keeping your gun in easy reach
Just came extremely hard to that H-manga.
God bless you OP
>is small technology cute?
>is it useful
>9gag go fun yourself
>Male feminism - Bing
I'm on the toilet and I keked so hard that my diarrhea is finally over.
Pretty happy with the Bitfenix Prodigy here, my only complaint is the screws on the front are very low quality, so you can't easily remove the internal drive bay if you're not using it.
>no pci slot for gpu
fucking japanese toasters
BEST CASE COMING THROUGH
I don't know why anyone would want a mini-ITX build
>BEST CASE COMING THROUGH
Cool story breh
Why would anyone want a computer the size of a toaster? Huge mess, bad airflow thus high temperatures and practically no space at all for expansion.
I mean sure, if you don't like computers and you just want a box that just werks, but want more than what a console can give you, then maybe I get it. But I can only see high temps and degraded parts due being in an oven-like ultraheated space all the time. The PSU at least does not appreciate it at all.
Then there are the people who actually buy nano sized cards. All that money for a card that throttles itself under load.
I give you 15 times to open and close the front pannel before the hinges break.
Worst build quality brand that exists currently, which is sad since they have the best design.
For a silent case it's not as great compared to an R5 or F51 at 33db vs 29db. For a gaming case it has nowhere near the airflow of the 450D which is only 1db louder. Literally style over substance.
It's better to have less airflow with no dust, than high airflow with a fucking desert growing inside the case.
Mesh not only looks like shit, it is functionally worse than simply having a solid front with side-intake and magnetic filter.
Besides, with the kind of fans that can be bought today of over 100 CFM, airflow is the LEAST of a problem unless you are a fucking retarded idiot who only uses shitty stock fans that come with the case. That's assuming you are not autistic about the quietness of cases, albeit that is up to debate too since cases and fans that produce a deep booming sound thanks to design are soothing to most people.
It's because I don't need a sound card or two graphics cards. I also don't want to put my PC on the carpet like some mongoloid nor do I want a huge mid-tower or full-tower on my desk.
Small cases are cute, they take up little space and have good air flow. I can fit some of the largest aftermarket coolers in my case as well as an ATX PSU and video card.
My Bitfenix Prodigy idles at about 30 degrees in the summer and about 25 every other time of the year. I don't go over 50 degrees when playing vidya at the highest settings.
Because of this
Enjoy your sag and bending cpus.
I have hated big cases for a long time now. At first I thought that I could forget desktop PCs already and move on to laptops, since they are quite powerful. They aren't powerful enough for gaming though, so I had to go back to desktop PCs. I hate the idea of a gigantic case where 90% of it is just empty space for no reason.
Luckily mini-ITX cases have come to save the situation and my next self-built PC will be one of those. I just have to find some good case that can handle gaming parts but isn't as tall as micro-ATX cases. I also don't really enjoy when they continue a long way to the backside but I guess I could live with that. I would rather have a tiny cube. Or a medium sized cube.
If you're gonna build a gaming machine, don't build a mini itx. It's a pain in the ass. Small, crowded, bad airflow. It might be cute but it's really troublesome.
mini itx should only be for something like a media center.
honestly i like MATX because its not retard small but not huge ether also nice storage options
I could use mini ITX but motherboards are not nice to look at, where as Matx has more options, i think mostly comes down to personal preferences.
>display could be bigger
Otherwise super cute/5
SHITTY BUILD THREAD?
SHITTY BUILD THREAD.
HERE IS MY CURRENT WALLET WASTE
U JELLY MAINSTREAM ELECTRONICS FAGGOTS?
Maybe the guy took it outside to clean it from dust and shit using those compressed air cans or something?
I mean, you have to be the dumbest most retarded fucking assperger ridden idiot on 4chan, which is an accomplishment in itself considering it's 4chan we are talking about, in order to clean your shit inside the house.
Earlier I came buckets to this, btw. Highly recommended. ^^.
