An upgrade just broke my system FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 30 DAYS.
IF YOU ARE WALKING THROUGH HELL, JUST KEEP WALKING.
I'LL BE DAMNED IF I GO BACK TO WINDOWS.
>But that will just... work, anon. He can't use that.
Well, he wouldn't be able to post in Screenfetch or Desktop threads without virgins berating him for not wasting weeks installing, ricing, maintaining or fixing Arch / Gentoo after it breaks like they have.
But it will just work.
>If it breaks, it's because of your own incompetence.
>You're being insulted because you're a shitter, not because you use Manjaro.
Installing updates on Manjaro with Xfce:sudo pacman -Syu
Everything updates, nothing breaks.
Installing updates on Arch with Xfce:sudo pacman -Syu
Everything updates, Xorg / Alsa / Pulseaudio / systemd breaks, can't log even into TTY.
In the second case I'm somehow incompetent.
In the first case I should be insulted because somehow I'm a shitter.
>Gentoo also doesn't overwrite config files at all. It creates a duplicate for you to merge.
Portage doesn't*. Network manager on the other hand... and that is why resolv.conf is locked.
It never broke for me either, but one time someone fucked up the nvidia-drivers package. It actually built EGL, but apparently didn't provide that info to Portage, so other packages that depended on some EGL provider couldn't get updated. This was fixed a day later though.
Some shitty programs messing with their own config files is not Gentoo's fault.
