I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Lincux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Lin
Still not fixed either. I file a bug report, but Microsoft doesn't allow you to do that.
nice convincing power you've there dude
>Lincux is not a viable desktop OS and likely never will be. This is not news.
Your premonitions are only valid for your own echo chamber... If everything were fixed tomorrow, your bandwagon would be headed down the other side of the street.
Mind your anonymous influence.
The desktop environment of choice is irrelevant.
It's the toolking which the application you're using was made with.
So recent firefox versions shipped with most distros won't, because they're compiled for Gtk3.
thanks for the insight
I don't watch anime.
I don't play games either.
That's why Linux is the best choice.
Get a job friend
no I mean the thumbnail bit works, or at least it did when I last used it, but xfdesktop doesn't start with the patched version, so you just have a grey screen as your desktop background and you can't right click anything on the desktop, it fucks up nemo (file manager), i don't know why but it all works when I reinstall gtk2 and glib2
Of course. You can't keep what you kill. But you get what you pay for.
>those spergs w/ excuses
Linux is garbage. G A R B A G E.
People only use it because it's free and because they can shitpost about it on this fucking cancerous board.
No good software exists of Linux. It's a timesink for neet nerds who want to circlejerk in desktop threads.
Once you grow up, you'll realize I am right. Windows is better for work.
Yes, deep down you know I'm right. Stop making excuses, don't even bother replying
no, he's right, i just tested, everything else works fine but xfdesktop doesn't start
>So recent firefox versions shipped with most distros won't, because they're compiled for Gtk3.
This is true but you can use firefox versions patched to use the kde file chooser instead:
Yes, this situation is a bit shitty in general (fuck gnome guys)
>using smiley with caret nose to prove a point
>expecting anyone to take you seriously
i didn't talked about if i watch anime or not, stop projecting your own insecurities
>Now it's your turn to call out that I'm not actually making a point
you're not making a point, just getting angry because i pointed that he's just insulting without making a point (yes, i insulted him, i'm not insulting you though)
>If you don't mind installing gigabytes of kde bloatware shit alongside your current DE then probably.
When i concur that it's true that pulling a lot of dependencies is not something nice i also thing that your statement blows the problem out of proportion, you mostly only pull libraries and since plasma 5 the kde frameworks got modularized this will not be a problem in the future
>and mozilla guys
While i like firefox a lot more and i use it as my main browser, as a kde user i concur with you completely, yeah, fuck mozilla guys
>Holy shit that bloat
While i think that the recent versions of gnome shell are reasonably good and even comfy, it doesn't surprises me that they lost a lot of popularity since gnome 3. Fortunately we can just ditch any DE or even a complete distro while retaining good compatibility, if this were windows we'd be fucked
It worked for me, but in my xinitrc, I had this:KDE_FULL_SESSION=true
xprop -root -f KDE_FULL_SESSION 8t -set KDE_FULL_SESSION true
xprop -root -f KDE_SESSION_VERSION 32c -set KDE_SESSION_VERSION 4
I just use the gtk2 patch now and pale moon though.
What a pain in the ass, I'll stick with the GTK2 patch desu.
I worked my fucking ass off to no avail.
Really? I remember when I was fucking with it on XFCE, I could nevre get chromium to detect the damn file chooser. I'd fuck with it again, but Firefox just has more powerful features so I stick with it
I recall when somebody bugged the FF devs to offer support beyond GTK2, they told them to suck a dick
No he doesn't. He lives like a poor student living as a squatter in his MIT office. He gets an income as a professional speaker and he donates his extra money (the money that he doesn't need to use) to the FSF.
Linux is a meme. It's a actual meme and you fell for it, kek.
Dude, holy shit. Like four people told you in that other thread weeks ago, it is literally ONLY a problem with ie and edge. IE and Edge are not known for their ability to work with everything. Plus, it's not really a problem since it's doing what you told it to do (open the image)
Fuck off back to OSX
You can definately fuck back to /v/ with your opinioin
I use it on Xfce fine and it works. The only problem I have is that the program used to configure the desktop background wont work if it points to a directory with sub directories while using the patched gtk2.
