Hydrogen bombs are not a new technology, they have been around since the 50s.

A nuclear fusion reactor like the one in Germany is a new technology. These simply did not exist 20 years ago, and the step up from fission based reactors is not an incremental improvement. It's a completely different process.

There is one combination of things I find fascinating that has only become possible since the explosion of smartphones since the mid 2000s: universal and complete wireless internet coverage via mobile networks. When you combine that with the vastness of available free information sources such as Wikipedia, dictionaries, open access science journals and the like, you realise that people have complete access to the entirety of human knowledge at the palm of their hands 24 hours a day wherever they are.

Only 20 years ago finding out any information required either seeking out experts or cumbersomely wading through library registers for hours on end based on some keyword until you finally find resources. Science articles were in the meantime only accessible from university libraries.

The next step in civilisation is us making good use of all that info rather than posting cat videos and arguing whose imaginary wife is the best.

I think you're very optimistic.

There is a perverse effect of having it all available to you easily.

It's like being deprived of sweets for your whole life and then suddenly having access to tons of sweets. After the first few days of excitement, the thrill will wear off and you'll start feeling sated with so many sweets. Then you will include them in your daily diet, but you won't be so thrilled about it as when it was all new to you.

Then you take them for granted and stop being very interested in them, unless you can find something special.

It is true though, that finding some information you are interested in is almost an instananeous process now, as opposed to how things were in the past, when you had to go to a library just to get started.

this is because most of it wasn't put on the market but went to the us oil reserves.

Also korean chinese relations where a lot better in the past and the us doesnt want to risk getting involved in a war with their chinese overlords.
