The only positive thing I can say about the GTX 970's 3.5GB of memory is that I upgraded from a GTX 750Ti 1GB, so it's pretty much a substantial upgrade no matter what. Fuck it, it still runs nice on my 1080p monitor.

Still is right now except the 390 leveled out to the same price. So it comes down to cooling and power usage.

970's aren't that great and as far as i'm concerned they are in line with a 280x or 380x with 3GB.

they might be a little faster but they're still "three GB cards" as far as i'm concerned.

this whole GB bullshit is real but isn't that big of a deal for the target market of a 970 owner. the same fags bought 770's a couple years ago. and where are they? nobody talks about their 770. NOBODY. when's the last time you saw someone on /g/ with a 770? or a 670? x70 cards were never this popular until the 970.

on principle alone i'd rather own a 580, 680, or 780 over a 970.

nvidia doesn't have that option to buy the same card in an older model number. you can't get a 780 on the cheap because they don't exist.

3xx series is better in the power consumption and heat departments, and they get new features that the 2xx series won't have.

The 280X might be very slightly better than the 380X, but I'd rather get the 380X for the reasons mentioned above.
