Sound is alternating high and low pressure areas in the air. It doesn't really rise or fall, and directionality is mostly dependent on frequency, with lower frequencies being more omnidirectional and higher frequencies being more focused.

Sadly he's in really bad shape :( at this point the little guy is just suffering, so we're going to have to put him down. He's been my best friend for most of my life, and I don't know how I'm going to deal with this
