yeah, think about that. way back when someone literally wrote the assembler in machine language, by writing down numbers and punching them in. This is seldom if ever done anymore, since you can cross-compile things to new architectures.

GCC was without a doubt compiled using another compiler. The first compilers to ever exist were either written in assembly or pure binary, since compilers didn't exist.
