Who here has a phone they will almost certain they won't upgrade until its completely broken into dust?
Note 2 with CM11 here
HTC One M7 on CM 12.1 in mint condition
Overclocked and undervolted, battery is at 50% at the end of the day plugging it in on high screen brightness. Literally no reason to replace it ever
HTC M8 in new condition. It should get Marshmellow soon.
After the warranty expires, I'll root it and have fun with it for as long as it lasts. I don't game or take pics with it so for all I need it's more than enough, and quite awesome actually.
Galaxy S3 running CM12 Nightly+ extended battery.
A few months ago, back when there were no stable lollipop ROMS and no way to revert to 4.2 (thanks KNOX), I got a new 'budget' smartphone. Hated it. When CM12 came out and confirmed working on d2tmo, I switched right back to the S3.
It's just as fast as new phones, 3 day battery life; literally zero reason to give this up.
Still rockin a stock rooted BIONIC with extended battery.
I wonder what the big phone manufacturers think about phone subsidies disappearing. As long as this phone still turns on and makes calls, I won't be getting a new one any time soon.
Running a Galaxy S2. Come @ me /g/ents. Had to replace the battery once and dropped it in the sink once. Still has water build up when I remove the cover. Running CM right now. Going to upgrade whenever I feel like I need it.
Play 1 game of csgo >>52239996
Fuck off with your Note 2 bullshit youve been posting about it since summer and are on damage control because youre poor , even hamburger flippers can afford an i6S/6P. I hope a car hits you and shatters both your pelvis and your precious Note 2
Nexus 4 reporting in.
I have no intention of replacing it until it stops being usable.
Unfortunately it seems that might happen sooner rather than later.
Decided to ditch my LG G4 for a used, $150 Galaxy S5. It's a bit beat up (not on the screen though) looking, but it's functional. Gonna install CM13 on this thing and use it until at least mid-2017 because I hate all the phones that came out in 2015. They're all compromises; one phone will do Thing X very well, but at the cost of Thing Y. There's no reason we shouldn't have a perfect phone in fucking 2015.
Come to think of it, the phone I was happiest with was a Note 4 with CM12, I just sold it early last year because the big screen bothered me. I should have done this to begin with.
Bought an LG G4 in november at 60%of the launch price.
Definitely using it until it breaks apart. Marshmallow is coming soon. i expect Android N or may be even O to come for this phone. after that, i'll switch to CM.
Used my last phone (sony ericsson k790i) for 5 years. the battery swelled up and every one had moved onto smartphones so I decided to buy an xperia u.
xperia u was the worst buy of my life. never buying sony again. never buying mid-range again.
shitposting atm from a lenovo g550 laptop i bought in 2009. replaced motherboard last year, and now i think it's good till 2020 (at least for shitposting and watching torrented movies.)
So, yeah, i like to use things until after they are long dead.
Yeah I'm quite partial to my GS3 as well. The thing is still more than fast enough given what I need it for, the camera's decent, the resolution is good, LTE because North Murrica, and most importantly, it can take Micro SD cards up to 64 GB in size. I find it amazing that, 4 years after the S3, there are basically no "flagship" phones that can hold my rather modest music library.
yeah well, you can't have everything, man.
UI i can deal with. I'm a man, so looks don't really bother me that much anyway. It's a phone, not a woman.
back buttons i have grown accustomed to.
It's just that i want marshmallow already but it's not coming.
I'm afraid of putting on CM and lose any DRM shit. What if i can't get DRM back?
Anyway, imho, G4 was the best android phone of 2015. I love it.
very excited to see G5 when it comes out.
iPhone 6S Plus.
Previous phone was a Note 1, finally replaced it when the SIM reader died, otherwise I would still be using it. I miss the Wacom Digitizer already, 3D touch with a passive stylus is nowhere near as good.
Samsung Galaxy S3 running CyanogenMod 12.1 phones nearing 4 years old and no issues :P
I still have my note 2 it runs like new but my screen is cracked to hell so I upgraded to a note 4. I'm not changing again until windows comes out with phone with full windows 10
I have an S3 with an AOKP based rom. Very good and don't intend to upgrade ever since it does everything I want and more. Favorite part is emulating N64 and PSX games.
I've heard the phrase about the S3 in that it is the "iphone of androids". There is just so, so much shit for the S3 and I even see new products using it as a placeholder for "your phone".
>LG G2 with CM12.1 here and waiting for a stable cm13 release.
>I like this phone, if it breaks i may be replacing it with another G2.
Same. Currently really disappointed with battery life on custom 5.1 compared to stock. I've heard 6.0 is much better in that regard, but there are a few things I'm waiting to get fixed before I try it.
I also have a mountain of spare G2 parts so if anything breaks I can keep it going for a long time.
I intend to keep my Nexus 5 until it gives up, still on CM11, I'll probably update soon if 6.0 isnt a buggy mess like 5.0 was. Honestly I could do with a dumbphone, I only got it for the 2gb ram and relatively powerful even for todays standards cpu, because I needed a decent web browser.
>easily replaceable battery
>excellent ROM support, muh CAF
>quad core Krait chip = fantastic performance
>3GB of RAM
This phone ain't going anywhere for quite a long time. If I keep replacing the battery every 2 years I could keep it for a decade.
>ditched for g4
>ditched for s5
FOUND THE CONSUMERIST.
I had a Note 2 since december 2012, got it for 450 bucks, then sold it for 200 bucks at the end of 2014 and got an Xperia Z2 for 400 bucks.
I have an E970 that ive been using as sort of mini tablet since it came out, its loaded with a 128gb card for muh animus. It has excellent, clean sound output and the ability to finely calibrate its display thanks to the similarities to the nexus 4 is a bless.
Nexus 5 stock + rooted here.
I'll keep using this until it dies, or until Google puts out another sanely priced Nexus phone.
Got drunk and fell over a few weeks back, and chipped a piece of plastic off the top bezel. Been trying to find somewhere that has the assembly with the white earphone mesh that doesn't charge out the ass.
my galaxy s4 has been with me for 2.5 years, will keep it till it dies, then getting a refurbished s4 again, there is no point in spending 600$ on a phone any longer all the games and apps on the play store suck dick, a phone to browse and youtube is enough nowdays for me.
S5 cause it's the last of the Samsungs where I can take the battery out and change sd cards.
It's a shame because I'm a little jealous of my friends camera on the S6. S5 camera seems to be worse than it was on the S3. Piece of crap can't ever focus properly onto things up close.
That sounds like an average Galaxy S battery life.
Owned an S3 and S4, had the same symptom.
Actually using the device = device is dead.
Well, the S series is a direct competitor to iPhones, which also have a horrible subpar battery life.
(Used 3GS, 4, once you used mobile data + screen-on, the phone started to suck battery away.)
Galaxy S4 active here. Recently upgraded to 128 Gb memory card. Might upgrade to the S5 active because that's probably gonna be one of the last waterproof phones with removabe battery and storage
And hell, all smartphone cameras sucks ass.
iPhone 6, Z5, S6 Edge Plus, Note 4, G4, you name it.
Sure, they look good on some paid reviews.
But try or buy the device, wow it's shit.
Unless it's a Galaxy K Zoom (so a camera with Android), or a phone with a big ass camera (Lumia 41mpx), picture quality will be shit.
The UltraPixel was the only notable and good innovation of the last few generations, and even that got killed.
At least we have OIS+ now, on most phones.
Get the S6 active?
It's got a big ass battery, and it's fucking fast.
Sure, battery is not removable, but it's got a proper capacity, unlike it's normal brother.
~3500mAH should be enough for a full day with that display size.
yeah apparently they fucked up, said they would have the X20 originally, then said the X10, and now are releasing 3 different versions of the P9000 with the highest being called "Edge" for its 2.5D curved glass. and apparently the Edge will get the X20 for a premium price point. but at the moment they've only disclosed the specs of the P9000 and Lite on their website (both with P10), and the Edge has been shown vaguely in some youtube videos as a proof of hardware.
overall the company is weird and doesn't communicate very well but they do release phones for American bands which I haven't seen much of from china. they should release these faster than they did the Vowney which was delayed since like September, then promised in October and never actually shipped until the end of December to begin filling orders. and now they have the Vowney 2K which a rep said will also be available in American band frequencies. they did mention the American version of the P9000 could be a 3 month delay after initial launch which they say is the end of January. but the hardware is already capable of running on different bands they just need to activate and pay whatever licensing fees for it.
I've had all the Galaxy S phones from S1 up to S6.
S1 and S2 are currently being used by my kids.
S4 Im using on my Phantom 3 controller.
S3 is on my 3d printer.
I gave my S6 to my wife, and I currently use the S5.
I love the water resistance on it, the great battery life and speed after heavy tweaking.
Perfect screen size for me, and a great all round powerhouse.
Picked it up for 70€, seller bricked it by flashing some chinese rom.
Paid 15€ for someone to Jtag it, added a glass screen protector and a slim spigen case.
Also have a zero lemon for those days Ill be out in the field with heavy data use.
Have tested Iphone 5 and 6, Lg, Zen, Xperia, but didnt find any reason to swap.
Nexus 5 is far from the best phone out there, but I can't justify upgrading from it to anything that's come out since. I really could not care less about higher specs when the OS is already completely lag free on the Nexus 5, the screen is still gorgeous, and the latest OS is still supported out the box.
I can see myself using the Nexus 5 for another 2 years at least.
Owned a S2 from launch until recently, bought a G4 a while after it was rooted. Plan on using this for a while since there weren't that many flagships with removable batteries and storage that came out recently
I use Omega Rom from XDA.
Before flashing, I edit the zip and manually remove everything I dont need, like google services, samsung apps and services, language files that aren't english, etc
I also add apps I do need (xprivacy, afwall+, adblock, tasker, etc)
Original rom file is 1.8GB
After manually debloating, it is 580MB.
Not saying it's completely debloated, but it is debloated enough to be daily driver stable
Just installed CM12 on my mom's old GS3 from the US after my Z1C broke.
Man, the amount of AT&T bloat on this thing was amazing.
Installed the latest nightly of CM12 and it's buttery smooth, though I'm not sure about the battery life since I just installed it a few hours ago.
I've got the same phone and even the same color. Fucking great phone.
I don't fully understand why people pay so much for modern flagship phones when for $250 you can get a phone that has a good screen, a good battery life and runs smoothly aside from demanding games like GTA San Andreas but who buys a phone to play games? The camera is the only reason to get a flagship imo as the cameras in budget phones tend to be bad to mediocre.
because they're not very good with money. that's why most people don't own a house or have constant debt. a lot of the time you'll see rich people have "worse" electronics than poor people. because that's why they're rich. they know how to manage money
Very proud of it. Im a student now and it does some great work for me. Upgraded to its final official android 4.1.2 and its the first smartphone ive ever had that works exactly like i want it to - perfect for my needs. the last phone that achieved that was my old w200i
Note 4, from last year. Yeah, it's not old. But it's absolutely perfect for me. I don't play games on my phone, so it aging won't matter for me as much. In the meantime, it has really good and fluid interface, and an amazing screen.
Also using CM, not having shit apps like samsung's shit and facebook means I have pretty good battery life. I can go through a day and a half before having to recharge pretty much.
Oh I know it's not the best, but like you said, it's silky smooth performance-wise, it's still supported, and will be for years to come thanks to XDA. I refuse to buy another brand of phone and stop receiving updates after a year, or play limbo to see if or when an update will come to my device.
G2 with cloudystock 2.7 (4.4.2), some fcs with play store.
Probably wont get rid of my moto g 2014 unless I find something better (with better dev support) for like $50
You will have to pry this phone from my cold dead hands anon.
Moto X 2013. Works like a charm, after the hell of a beating it has took to this day.
Don't give a crap about Marshmallow either, though YouTube on the Android 5.1 works like crap. I might patch that up with CM sooner or later.
>upgrading to Lollipop
you had to see it coming.
>wanting to upgrade to 6.0.0
When will you learn not to update your phone to meme versions?
currymod is still better than bone stock vanilla andross
its the lil things
I love this phone so much. Had it for over 2 years now.
I have an SGS2, not really compelled to upgrade. The battery is giving out again even though I bought it just a couple of months ago. Seems like all replacement batteries you can buy are garbage.
I hardly ever use it though so it's not really a big deal.
Fucking love my iPhone 5S, still no complaints after a little over 2 years.
Never gonna replace this one
I probably wouldn't care about flagship phoned that much if it weren't for the fact that no one tries that hard on the camera hardware and software unless it is a flagship phone.
All the mid-range phones and China phones have sub-par cameras. If it's not at least as good as a Note 4 or S6 then it's like I have absolutely no interest regardless of how cheap it is for the rest of the specs.
A big part of the reason for that is that the people who I buy phones for (mom, sister, girlfriend) all like taking casual photos with their phone as well so I'm always on the lookout for the best at a given price range. Hell I'd even get them iphones now that some finally updated their hardware, but I'm not paying $700 a pop for the non-retard 64gb model (16gb iPhone 6s, wtf apple)
Way more features on flagship phones.
If you're only ever interested in what's in stock and texting/ browsing it doesn't matter much, but my phone pretty much is the centerpiece of my professional life, so I prefer having the newer features, better batteries, etc.
Galaxy S3 here.
it's a bit slow, but I mostly use it for calls and internet browsing
kind of in the same boat as >>52245999
the USB port on my S3 is dying (tried like 5 different cables, it only charges, data isn't sent), so if I want to get shit on/off the phone and not have to send it over wifi, I have to pop it on/off the SD card
removable battery is a nicety that I haven't really utilized, but I should probably look into getting a new battery at some point
Amazing but there are even better phones out there. Stuck with a 2 yr contract from Rogers (canada) but not even mad about it tbqh.
Any phones to look out for in 2016? Looking for at least 5.5inch. Currently have one plus one. Its a mostly great phone, but I may want to buy a new phone later in the year just because. I've wanted the nexus 6, but I feel it is a bit old now
Nexus 5 master race reporting
>Still on par with today's flagships
>5 inch screen (Perfect)
>2gb ram (Anything over 2gb is a waste)
>Still gets OTA's
>With apps like amplify, battery is decent now
>Marshmallow support (based doze)
>Monthly security updates
>2016 and N5 template is still used for a plethora of apps
>dat sleek design
S5 here as well, tempted to upgrade because I'm a goyim, but after sleeping on it I'm like....naawwww
Seriously, >>52239996 is a fucking autistic curry nigger or something if he can't afford a better phone, like the type of guy I'd punch the shit out of then fuck his wife/girlfriend assuming he had one
I had the Verizon version of this, so no custom roms (rip locked bootloader). After years of outdated Touchwhiz bullshit with my phone slowing down like crazy, I had to switch to a 6P
