Why does turning on qbittorent makes youtube or any picture impossible to open, and any website wont open half time?

What's the difference between IMG and ISO format?
I want to back up my linux mint.
And there are two options
Use the linux mint backup tool which makes .img file
and remastersys which makes .iso file.
Needless to say I'm new to linux so what's the advantage of either of these and with which backup method should I go?

How to disable the play from the last stop in GNOME player?
I looked in the options and didn't find any.
Also -this is a difficult to explain- in GNOME when I open a media file it will open, and if I open another media file it will open in a different application window, not stop the previously playing file and start the new media.

So basicaly, I use 4chanx with a custom css. I just copy pasted it from github. The problem is that if I get the captcha wrong in "quick reply" there is no way to request a new one, and even if I type it correct it doesn't accept it. Is there a workaround? Is it the css's fault? Should I get a different one?

Are there any recommended monitors to use with my current one in a dual setup?

What would cause a handful of different sites not to load at once? I can't access Facebook, Netflix, eBay, Amazon, or ESPN. The pages just load forever.

I can still access 4chan, YouTube, Twitch, Hotmail, Gmail, and others.

I think it may have to do with my External IP changing. Yesterday I lost power for about 8 hours and when it came back up I noticed my IP (which has never changed before in 5 years) was suddenly in Vermont (I'm in PA).

What is going on and how do I fix it?

Repeating because this is stupid and I want to solve it but need some direction. I am in dire need of downloading around 60k fanfictions from an ArchiveOfOurOwn tag. They are not in sequential order. Have not had success with HTTrack and it seems using wget and cURL will need the URLs to be sequential. I have a lot of free time but downloading 60k fics by hand is madness. What do I do?

So this is somewhat like PixivDownloader but for html files (fics) in a particular tag.

For a raspberry pi seedbox, what torrent client should I use? I'm not that familiar with rtorrent, but I would assume this is the best option? Does it win by a landslide or just a little?
>>
>>45494768
You touch the case if you don't wear a bracelet. A bracelet will do all the work for you, but not many people want to buy one for a one time use. You should ground yourself before you touch anything sensitive.

Screwing up your parts is one problem, but another people don't know about is degradation. You can shock your parts and they may still work, but will have damage from the shock. You may build the PC without flaw, but a year down the road when something stops working, ie RAM, it may have been from a shock you didn't detect when building the PC

Almost done setting up my new DE-like environment!
I figured out how to make i3 start every program in floating mode by default, which is a fuckload more convenient than the reverse given that ~70% of open windows are popups/notifications/horrible at scaling and don't set the correct hints. Now I can tile whatever needs tiling without having to deal with fullscreen popups and shit. Pretty nice.

That said, here are the problems I need to solve now:
1- I want to use mozplugger with palemoon, how 2 do?
2- How do I set per-application volume with pure alsa (or at least without pulseaudio)? Amixer doesn't seem to support such a feature but the dmix plugin should be available.
3- Some applications that usually minimize to the tray just stay onscreen with i3 (it's not just the screen not being redrawn, the program can be interacted with). How2fix?

I have an old (7 or so years) prebuilt computer with an HDMI port and a vga port for video output. The HDMI port is currently occupied by a Dell u2414h monitor. I have two of these monitors. Since they only have HDMI and Displayport connections, connecting one to the VGA port on my computer has proven tricky. Getting a video card is not an option at the moment as there ins't enough space to put one in.

Will this cable allow me to connect my monitor to my computer?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5H627B0609&cm_re=vga_to_hdmi-_-9SIA5H627B0609-_-Product

In the product description it states that it turns 1080p HDMI to VGA analog, does this mean it's only one way? Or does it convert both ways?

I've been having some issues lately with my PC and I think I've got it narrowed down to a few things. My PC boots up, but can't make it past the start up. It says loading windows then shuts down

I'm using a corsair H60 hydrocooler from around 2010. Perhaps the CPU is overheating?

I decided to also test my ram. I'm using 2x4GB viper extreme in the first and 3rd slots.

Together, they can't make it past booting windows. When I tested one alone it made it all the way to the login screen, but was unable to make it to the desktop. This occured in both the first and 3rd slots. The second one I tested alone and did the same thing.
Could it be the slots in mobo have gone bad, the CPU is overheating, or the ram is kill?

concerning foo_uie_library_tree

i want to keep a playlist of items which i haven't listened to yet, and haven't set to skip. am i on the right track with this filter? the resulting view is the tree you see on the left.

it works but not the way i want it to. i don't actually need a playlist view of songs i've set to skip. it'd be nice to just have a pure list of items as an output instead of a tree view, that way i can see a total number of items next to the "Unlistened" label.

Taking it to a local PC repair shop where they can use a power supply tester to test it in a few seconds is the best idea I can come up with. Microcenter sure, I don't know if they'll test it or try and sell you a new PC.

If it was a RAM issue, I would expect a BSoD. Windows safe mode doesn't work, so it can't be the HDD. The mobo/CPU is possible, but random shut offs is more PSU related. That's my deduction reasoning

An IMG is an image of basically _any_ kind of media. It _could_
also be for a DVD or a hard disk. In case of the FreeBSD
installation media it's intended for a USB stick. The image
contains _everything_ that is needed to make the stick usable,
like boot mechanism, file systems and so on. It can carry any
file system(s) required. It's an exact 1:1 representation of
the content that has to go to the media.

An ISO (read: ISO 9660) is also an image, but primarily intended
to be used with CDs and DVDs. It carries an ISO-9660 file system,
typically with a RR (RockRidge) extension, and it can include
a boot mechanism. However, it has "less complicated stuff" in
it. It can still be used as a basis for _creating_ non-ISO-9660
file systems in memory (memory disks).

You're router may be overloading. Routers have to route traffic, and torrent programs generate huge amounts of load on any router.

I used to have this problem too when I had my torrent program open with over 100 torrents running. I fixed this by getting an old desktop PC (2006 dell) and turning it into a router with pfSense. Now I can run 4000+ torrents with only 5% of the CPU used on it.

the screen is the only sensitive part and jimmy john's menus are obviously the best protection you can have.

this screen is shitty and stained and i want to replace it anyway. i simply gave no fuck if i broke it. i cleaned it by dousing it in alcohol, which made the chassis come away from the screen revealing the stained sheets underneath. i rubbed them hard as i could with q-tips and alcohol then shoved it all back together. didn't even wait for it to dry before testing it which is this picture.

the alcohol bath made a noticeable difference, removing most of the ink stain, but the it is still there. should i try nail polish remover?

I just installed Debian yesterday. And since it's Debian, pretty much all the packages that the package manager provides are outdated. I just want to get Numix to work properly.

So, I was trying to build glib-2.42.0, with which I assumed would install it in /usr/bin/, correct me if I'm wrong.

./configure --prefix=/usr/bin/
make
make install

But when I try to build ATK, the same way, which depends on glib it says that there's something wrong with the install and glib-2.0.pc isn't in the same location as PKG_CONFIG_PATH, which I had set to /usr/bin/.

Sure enough glib-2.0.pc is in the directory that I unarchived glib from, why is this?

You can do anything. It's minicomputers, so you can install debian or arch or watnot and basically do whatever you'd do on any other computer, just slower and — most important — tinier. They're often used as personal servers or in robotics or media centers or any other think you could think of needing a cheap, small computer.

You'd write in whatever unix-compilable language you'd normally write in. I use c++, some use c, some haskell, some ruby, and it seems like most use php.

The broad understanding is like this (others will propably disagree, though):

Ubuntu is the most popular, most allround, most populistic flavour.

Debian is the most stable, but not as user friendly. Ubuntu is based on Debian.

Gentoo is the most "hardcore" one. You have to compile your own packages and basically learn how stuff works yourself.

Arch is similar to gentoo, but has it's own package manager.

Red Hat is enterprise linux, you have to pay to use it, but get real, human, professional support in retur.

Fedora is the gratis version of red hat.

I believe that is the ones you come across the most.

What do you consider "learning" Linux to be like?

Arch and Gentoo generally have good documentation in terms of how to set up, build and install a system from near scratch, while things like Debian and Ubuntu are far more stable and focused towards giving you a complete system in the first place.

If you just want a decent sandbox to start with, I'd go with Debian to start with (Or if you're too kewl for school, Crunchbang, it's just Debian with a specific simple but powerful set of programs).

The "trick" to Linux is in knowing what you want to use with it, what Desktop Environments or Window Managers, what Terminals, Shells, Browsers you want to use with it, which mainly comes with experience. Once you have it, even installing Gentoo for the first time needs all of 10 minutes of effort.
