What do you guys think of it?

More wasted space than OP's existence.
>>
It's faggier than OS X and i tought that was impossible to achieve
>>
It... Actually looks kinda fancy
>>
This is what happens when you let fucking hipsters do anything.

Borderless flat colors don't really go well with floating windows.

Is there an actual build, or is that just a static layout?
>>
Looks gross and unfunctional.

I am ambivalent. Looks okay but simultaneously annoying.

Don't know much about it. Just wanted to hear your opinions.

10/10 would try.

Looks like tablet shit on a desktop.
>>
>>45450521
Is it out yet?

>>45450600
It's based on Google's design language. Maybe implemented by a hipster, but it's really Google's design and it's interesting to see as an experiment if nothing else.
>>
>>45450723
It's ment to come out sometime soon.
>>
>>45450705
>Vertical taskbar
No.
>>
About as useful as Elementary OS.
>>
>>45450763
I believe you can reposition it
>>
I love plain design in websites, but however it looks horrible in OS.
>>
Is that Android L?
>>
It looks like the desktop version of Lollipop
>>
Personally, and this is true for a lot of Linux stuff these days, I think it looks chunky. Everything is designed to look good at too big a scale. That makes it look like a fischer-price toy to me. This works okay for mobile devices, but not so great on a desktop. Usually I can I change the font and scaling, but it still seems a bit childish.
>>
>>45450804
Its material designed OS to look like android L
>>
>>45450705
looks like unity and windows 8 mixed together
>>
>>45450801
i mean flat design
>>
>>45450763
Vertical taskbars would actually be fine on a tablet since you could just thumb the icons to swap windows though.
>>
>>45450846
It'd be okay if English were written top-to-bottom, but it's written left-to-right, so it's a limiting, awkward placement that quickly wears out it's novelty.
>>
>>45450913
But you dont need words on the taskbar and it doesnt take up that much space. If you cant change the size/position though that would be stupid as fuck
>>
>>45450913
large, icon-only taskbars have been an accepted thing for some time now though

what with osx and windows 7+ both doing it by default
>>
>>45450913
>It'd be okay if English were written top-to-bottom
English is left-right and top-down though.
Like how this next sentence is below the previous one.
Top-down is perfectly fine if there aren't retarded names on it that go down.
>>
linux noob here, what to you use to customize your gui like this? openbox? any tips?
>>
>>45450940
it's pretty obvious he meant
l
i
k
e

t
h
i
s

besides, when saying things like "left to right, top to bottom", the first part refers to the direction the letters are read, so it's safe to assume simply saying "top to bottom" by itself is refering to the letter direction, and not the line direction
>>
>>45450846
>Vertical taskbars would actually be fine on a tablet
consider killing yourself soon
>>
>>45450931
>>45450938
>>45450940
I suppose. Maybe I'm just used to having my clock/date in the corner and being able to identify which, say, window of chromium is which by sight.
>>
>>45450985
>actually moving your retarded american fat sausage fingers to the bottom/top/wherever the fuck of the device to swap applications instead of using your fat thumb to press the left/right side to swap
>>
>>45450995
don't get me wrong, i prefer "windows 95" style taskbars where it actually shows what windows are instead of just what program owns them

but we're old faggots now, everyone else is just looking at icons

>Our application framework will be based upon a QML UI toolkit implementing Material Design. It is written completely from scratch, and does not use QtQuick Controls, and is not a fork or theme for the Ubuntu UI toolkit. The reason for this is that we want to be able to focus specifically on implementing Material Design, which has several unique features, such as the concept of elevation. We will most likely have a Qt/Gtk theme for existing apps, but the official recommendation will be writing new applications or porting existing applications to the Material Design framework. The API will be similar to that of other QML frameworks such as the Ubuntu UI toolkit, so it will not be too difficult porting existing apps.

This is why all of these derivatives are shit. If they focused on the one thing they're trying to do, maybe they could do it right for a change.

>problem could literally be fixed by just making a nice theme for Ubuntu instead of adding another competing framework

The year of the Linux desktop will come when designfags like this realize that they need to apply their pretty coats of paint to the shit built by the autists instead of making their own broken shit.
>>
>>45455577

This already happens: see Numix.

You can't boil down "the year of the Linux desktop" to a single issue.
>>
>>45455577
see >>45455248
>>
>>45455617
The year of the linux desktop will come on its own as long as people stop RIGHT THE FUCK NOW to remove features in favor of muh pwetty paintcoat. First they came for gnome, then for KDE. Now nothing worth using is left. If people started adding features in favor of muh rice again, though, since apple and m$ keep going the rice way, people will have no choice but to come to GNU/Linux to do real work. Normalfags will migrate to phones or tablets, and Linux will finally be the dominant platform literally everywhere.
>>
>>45455617
Well yeah. Further hardware and software support would certainly help.

I mean if you're good on the hardware and okay with limitations on proprietary software access, Linux is better than Windows in every way, and I say this using it right now on my newly upgraded desktop.
>>
>>45450521
Ask again when they've got something more than concept pictures.
>>
>>45455651

This is just nonsense. Mosts users don't stray fron the defaults. We'd be much better served by making sure our defaults are the best they can be.
>>
>>45455687
Our default would invariably migrate toward the best they can be as long as such an option exists. Right now, every option keeps going down and down in usefulness. Truthfully, it's like the entire world has engaged in a contest of "who can remove the most features from their software before people start getting mad" starting in the mid 21st century.
>>
So is this considered better or worse than elementary?
>>
>>45455651
There's no reason to switch to Linux from OS X for work. The features it really needs are already there, so Apple works on polishing it.

I actually talked with the dev of this OS for a short while. He's a hardcore Christian and goes by iBeliever on most websites, including reddit. He seems like a decent enough guy. The whole purpose of this OS was just to see how they could make MD look on the desktop. If you faggots don't like it, don't use it. I'm just happy that he is basing it on Arch. I'll definitely try it out when it releases and if it flows well, I'll stick with it. Aesthetics are important for the majority of users. My biggest concern is that he plans on developing a custom browser. If it's based on Chromium and is only custom to match the design and theme, it's fine... but I don't want to see another Midori. Fuck that shit.
>>
>>45456232
AFAIK he nixed the sidebar in favor of a top bar as seen in the other images.
The sidebar was their idea if they based it on Ubuntu, which they decided not to do and to instead use Arch.
