Pic related. R8 it.

You really took the "box" out of steambox
>>
>>45414331

>>
>>45414323
Goodluck with a 450W, it will cut out all the time with that GPU + i5
>>
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5252#ov

Get this and a better PSU
>>
>>45414456
>implying
You could run that with 300w

How's this for a streaming-only option? (For those with powerful gaymen pcs already)
>>
Why not just stream it off of your main PC and use lower price components
>>
>>45414496
I made that build excluding the case which came down to preference
>>
>>45414496
Why a strong APU for a pure streaming box?
Does it actually need a decent GPU for the streaming?
>>
What makes a Steambox a Steambox if you configure it freely like a PC anyway?
>>
>>45414519
For those few games that you wouldn't want to stream that require really fast response
>>
>>45414456
You really don't understand what a watt is.
>>
>>45414522
A steam box will mainly be used for steam gaymen (in the living room), pretty much a PC used as a console. Streaming works well in that situation so they are usually low to mid range builds with a good connection to the main PC.
>>
>>45414557
>>45414522
Also Unless it's a strong steambox, I wouldn't recommend using it for games that require fast input or a keyboard for that manner.
>>
>>45414557
So it's a gaming HTPC with Steam on it?

Hardly an innovation.
>>
You better be putting SteamOS on it.
>>
>>45414496
>>45414519
For a streamingbox you could just get a fucking Intel NUC. All it has to do is decode video data.
>>
>>45414571
>consoles
So it's a PC with locked down hard- and software?

Hardly an innovation.
>>
>>45414585
You probably want hardware decoding on the client side.
>>
>>45414562
Nah latency will not be much of an issue if you either have a hard connection or if you can get at least 5ghz wireless n. And that's why I chose an a10 to handle those few that you wouldn't stream.

>>45414571
While it isn't that innovative it sure beats having to build another gaymens PC at full price to play em in a different room.
>>
>>45414598
Hardware decoding with a GPU works like shit atm in SteamOS. So instead of using the GPU, SteamOS will use the installed CPU.
>>
>>45414466
That is abit pricy for my budget....
>>
>>45414646
People recommending a "better" psu in your case are retarded.
Don't listen to them.
>>
>>45414640
>this faggot is actually using steam os
My sides
>>
>>45414496
I think the CPU , PSU and Ram are all Overkill for steaming only, also you should use the MSI-Z87I mobo for a cheaper option that has better transfer speeds
>>
>>45414640
If steam os doesn't use GPU decoding then grabbing a cheap i5 and a cheaper mobo with wireless ac doesn't sound like that bad of an idea. Last time I tried installing steam is it didn't accept Intel graphics. Has it really progressed that much?
>>
I hope this is an old build, because if you bought it recently it was pretty dumb to go for 770 instead of a maxwell card.
>>
>>45414661
>look at that guy!
>he's tinkering with technology for f-fun!
>lol amirite gais! WAD A FAG!!1
Whatever mate.

>>45414676
Intel works fine. Tried it on a friend's NUC and streaming over WiFi was working good with 300MBit/s. But slower than that and you'd get artifacts in fast moving scenes.
>>
OP here, this is my build in better details. I think the feedback is good, well adleast not neagtive.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/
>>
>>45414728
Both purchases are dumb.
We're literally 2 months away from AMD's refresh
>>
>>45414740
Pfft, waiting for AMD refresh? New Nvidia cards will be out in no time.

>Repeat ad nauseam
>>
>>45414323

>gamer build
>i5
>less ram than phones
>770
>sub 1000w PSU

Into the trash it goes.
>>
>>45414740
And we are like two months after maxwell. Still warm from the oven.
>>
>>45414746
It's always a lot longer before NVIDIA releases their new cards.
They once tried doing it sooner, but we ended up with the 400 woodscrew series
>>
>>45414728
I am going for budget and price over performance and this wins out.
>>45414740
I don't want a AMD
>>
>>45414739
Wrong link op, gotta look in the website itself for the link
>>
>>45414733
Why would you shell out double the money to get an intel cpu to use steamos , when you can get any other distro which does support it, and install steam onto that, and just use an apu?
if you're not a shill, I suspect you might be seriously retarded.

That's not what I implied, at all.
Do you know what keeps shit cheap? Competition.
>>
>>45414779
>I am going for budget and price over performance and this wins out.

Did you account for the roughly $100 an equivalent maxwell card will save in power bills over it's lifetime?
>>
>>45414800
Can you recommend a maxwell card?
>>
>>45414828
gtx 970
>>
>>45414864
But that shits soo expensive...
>>
what thermal take model is that?
>>
>>45414870
Yea no shit
NVIDIA has been busy shilling with maxwell
>>
>>45414870
What? It's barely more expensive than 770, the cheapest of both is $25 difference at newegg.

I guess you could wait for the 960 or 960Ti, don't know when they will be released
>>
>>45414890
Core V1 mini-ITX

>>45414900
I think its coz I live in China but the 970 is very expensive compared to the 770
>>
>>45414971
>I think its coz I live in China
That better be Hong Kong
Mainland China is disgusting
>>
>>45414900
I take it back, I fucked up and now im getting a 970
