Gonna buy this gem (best for my price limit)

Specs:

Dell Latitude E7440
Processor: Intel Core i5 (4de Gen) 4300U / 1.9 GHz / 3 MB Cache
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
SSD: 128GB SSD
Display: 14" 1366 x 768 / HD
Graphic card: Intel HD Graphics 4400
Weight: 1.63kg

Let me know what you think, if I should use this as a replacement for desktop (only a light gamer: dota, LoL, etc.)
>>
>>45313564

Oyeah, price is 625 eu

There's a spot in my trash can reserved specifically for this.

Why don't they make 1280x800 laptops anymore again?
>>
>>45313705
Because as shit as 1366x768 is, it's better than 1280x800.
>>
>>45313705
why dont they make 1440x900 screens in new laptops again?
>>
>>45313564
kek this stinks.

i got my latitude e6510 for $400 last month.
Intel Core i7 CPU M 620 @ 2.667GHz
4GB RAM
120GB SSD
15,6" 1600 x 900
Nvidia 3100M
>>

Fucking expensive. You can get Lenovo Z50 with 1080p screen and GT820M GPU for 400€.
>>

Because the good ones have 1080p screens.
>>

there are several small shops that specialize in buying 1 y'o laptops from large companies, because of their life cycle. mine has a 2cm scratch on the outer surface of the lid and that's the only esthetic problem with it. since it's a business grade laptop, it has much higher durability than consumer laptops, so i think it will last till I finish my masters.

not even once

specs sound nice but lenovo laptops that aren't thinkpads fall apart in no time.

OP, I'd recommend going back a two or three generations and getting a used Latitude, it'd get you a better machine for a lower price. If you're willing to go back as far the C2D it gets really cheap, E6500s with 1920x1200 panels and nvidia graphics go for $200-$250 these days. E6400s are great too if you want a smaller machine.
>>
>>45314131

I will have a look, thanks

But anon, I am a fucking consumer.

>>
>>45314317
I call bullshit.

I have two laptops. One with a 4 core A10 APU, one with a dual core i3. They are both on the same level of performance, for everything I've ever used them for. And the i3 model is two years older than the APU.
>>
>>45314506
Is that an A10 7300?
>>
>>45314493
oh god I'm so sorry
>>
>>45314317

I think the guy who made that picture misses out on durability of laptops. That Acer does not seem very stable.
>>
>>45314532

So, the Dell (original picture) is my best go.
>>
>>45314535
Just gotta take care of it, otherwise you probably won't find better hardware for the price, granted you shouldn't be buying gaming laptops in the first place like I implied
>>
>>45314549

Hmm. In that case I'll remember the model. Thanks
>>
>>45314548
Unless you can find the acers in
>>45314317
and the prices are still comparable over there
>>
>>45314549

But is Intel Core i5 and Intel HD Graphics 4400 better than AMD A6-6310 Quad Core 1.80hz and AMD radeon r5 m240??
>>
>>45314521
5750M
>>
>>45314564

And as far as I know about durability and overheating, Dell is better than Acer?
>>
>>45314616
So it's older, the newer ones according to CPU boss at least are on par with the 4200M/U

>>45314610
I'm fairly certain the A6 can crossfire so it might be better for games but the A6 is only dual core I believe
>>
>>45313573
A friend of mine bought a toshiba for 530€

i5 4300M (3.3ghz)
4GB Ram
2GB Nvidia 740M
15" 1366x768
500GB HDD

seems like your deal is not that much of a deal. and he bought it from a store without any sale on it
>>
>>45314637
I bought the one with the A10 in February, I bought the i3 model in 2011.
>>

>>
>>45314654
It's still a last gen A10 man, the newer ones are on 28nm
>>
>>45314683
It should still be able to out perform a four year old dual core i3. Don't ya think?
>>
>>45313780
you know the 820m is actually a GF117 and is basically the same as a 420m but with higher frequencies? it has about the same power of this generation of intel iGPUs

>>45314675
no but if you give me a mail i can tell you tomorrow
or else you can just go lurk the models for 5 minutes, your call
>>
>>45314730
not really, AMD was pretty far behind on mobile CPUs since intel was probably on 22nm at that time
>>
>>45314763
Oh well, I still think I'll go with another intel next time. Especially considering the A10 model was $150 more.
>>
>>45314763
intel was at 32nm then so it was a fair comparison

as fair as 4 (2 year younger) cores @ 3ghz can compare with 2 @ 2.3ghz
>>
OP here,

how about this one? The problem with these kind of laptops they just look like plastic to me
>>
Or this?
>>
>>45314826
the reasoning is always the same

-ask yourself what exactly you want from a laptop
-value all specs, not just power, but also generic specs like portability, battery life, screen, audio etc
-inform yourself as much as you can on each model
>>
>>45314826
plastic > metal.

Metal bends on impact, plastic flexes and rebounds. Metal is heavier, plastic is lighter. Plastic disperses heat better than metal. I don't see why so many people are obsessed with metal laptops, when plastic is so clearly superior.
>>
>>45314854
>>45314826
the first one wrecks the second one
>>
>>45314826

>>45314868
it's mostly just retarded apple fags that like the look

>>45314880
There is nothing wrong with 1366x768 on a 15inch laptop, it's going to be used about as far as a desktop monitor most of the time I'd imagine.
>>
>>45314868
>Plastic disperses heat better than metal

Yes, that's why all the heatsinks are made out of plastic.
>>
>>45314889
>There is nothing wrong with 1366x768 on a 15inch laptop
please be bait
>>
>>45314931
That's just stupid, and not at all a fair comparison to laptop shells.
>>
>>45314931
>metal laptop
>heat is immediately conducted to your palm rest
>plastic laptop
>heat is dispersed slowly on the chassis

i wonder what is better

>>45314936
1366x768 is cancer but you can't expect a cheap laptop to come with a 1080p screen. for what low end laptops are supposed to do, it's enough
>>
>>45314936
It's 100ppi, it's perfectly fine for desktop use
>>
>>45313564
>1366x768 on 14"

>>
>>45313780
A lenovo Z50 is a consumer pile of shit.
A Latitude E7440 is like a ThinkPad T series laptop.
Having said that, the OP should check the Dell Outlet for certified refurbished E7440s.
E7440s with i5s and 1080p go for $1000.
>>

>meanwhile, 3820x2160 on 5' phone screens
>>
>>45314999
>placebo
>>
>>45314969
>better

Metal still disperses heat better. What you mean to say is that plastic insulates better which may benefit comfort on the palm rests. It's not my fault you can't type clearly.
>>
>>45314994

That E7440 is a beast. Hope I can find it around somewhere ;)
>>
>>45314978
I bet you also think that TN panels with a contrast ratio of 100:1 and that reach 30% of sRGB and with an average delta-e of 10+ for grayscale and color are perfectly fine too?
>muh ppi
>>
>>45315029
No.

Do an experiment with me. Go get a piece of plastic and a piece of metal (aluminum), both the same size, in every dimension. Now set your oven to 200F, and put both pieces in at the same time. Let them sit in there for 20 minutes, then take them out and sit them on a sturdy surface for two minutes. Now grab one in one hand, and one in your other hand, and see which one you let go of first. That one is the one that disperses heat worse.
>>
>>45315048
he's a pleb obviously, the fact that phone screens are better than the majority of laptop displays is a huge problem

My phone's screen blows away my fucking MBA screen and the MBA display isn't as bad as some laptop displays out there.
>>
>>45315048
You aren't really going to get an IPS panel in a consumer laptop until companies become smart enough to make 8 inch laptops with those tablet screens in them
>>
>>45315088
Phone screens don't need ppi that high, 150ppi is perfect on them
>>
>>45315168
>150ppi is perfect on them
if you want eye cancer
>>
Wouldn't this Dell for 450eu be better?

Dell Latitude E6410
Intel Core I-7 M620 @ 2,67Ghz
4GB DDR3-SDRAM geheugen
128GB SSD-harddisk (heel snel opstarten)
512MB Nvidia NVS 3100M videokaart
>>
>>45315081
The word you're looking for is "Specific Heat"
>>
>>45315214
No it isn't. But thank you for admitting that you were wrong, and jus moving on with your life, having learned something.

>>45315232
You both know exactly what I was saying. If you don't have a real argument, just bow out.
>>
>>45315211
Still 1366x768.
>>
>>45315197
at higher ppi, and you have to upscale the shit out of the screen to use it, making it pointless to have such a high resolution on a small screen unless you're doing VR
>>
>>45315081
So now you are saying metal has a greater heat capacity than plastic.
>>
>>45315247

I don't need a bigger screen?
Bigger screen on budget laptop = shitty graphics
>>
>>45315247

>>45315245

No kidding, it's fucking 1024x768 with a few horizontal pixels nailed on. 1024x768 stopped being acceptable around a decade ago. Why the hell is its widescreen cousin welcomed with open arms?

The bare minimum for 16:9 wallyworld laptops ought to be 1600x900 with 1080p beginning to appear at the $600 mark. $1k should get you into HiDPI territory.
>>
>>45315264
Plastic cool down fast, metal take long time.

>>
>>45315537
I thought we were talking about phones, for what purpose would you render a 5 inch screen at 300ppi when you can't actually use that resolution.
>>
>>45315335
Metal cools down faster you retard. That's why it feels hotter. The heat from the metal is being transferred to your hand, while the plastic is still holding on to it, which is why it doesn't feel as hot. Goddamn, you ever had high school physics?
>>
>>45315557

I have no idea what you are talking about. If you can't tell the difference between a 300ppi screen and a 150ppi screen you need to get your eyes checked.
>>
>>45315734
There is a difference, but it's pointless to have the extra sharpness of 300ppi when 150ppi is perfectly usable.

>it's pointless to have a faster computer when a slower computer is perfectly usable
>it's pointless to have better tasting food when McDonalds is perfectly edible
