a new technology can't possibly be better than the one I have, and I can't afford it. MUST BE HYPE !!!
I'm thinking about getting a SSD myself. My gaymin laptop is pretty fast, but sometimes it takes a while to get going after a cold boot and applications load a little more slowly than I'd like them to.
Would a SSD alleviate those problems? Would it have a noticeable impact on battery life?
it offloads network traffic from your cpu and has inbuilt traffic shaping which is great for multipurpose activities, mainly gaming with a good ping while downloading stuff so it ain't that of a bad idea but many "gaming" mainboards have a "killer" chip onboard
So is the only excuse for buying one is because someone has extra money to spend?
Because >muh 7 second boot times!!!!!
Don't mean shit to me when I turn my PC and I go to other things, or it's only in sleep mode
those realtek ethernet drivers you might talk about , still tend to offload stuff on the cpu, even if it is just very minor.. but this is not the overall advantage we're talking about this chip
>using safety razors instead of disposable walmart razors
I don't use a safety razor, but the difference is glaring.
>duel monitors for more productivity
I agree with that, dual monitors just give me more potential to fuck around instead of working.
>overclocking makes your pc faster
It used to, but nowadays overclocking is mostly pointless unless you really need the performance for something intensive.
>linux is safer than windows
It is, but mostly just because of market share.
>It used to, but nowadays overclocking is mostly pointless unless you really need the performance for something intensive.
>It's useless except when it isn't
Are you always this smart except when you aren't?
I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and a Corsair K70 that my brother left when he move tho Germany.
I find the wireless one to be more comfortable to type and play games, also i like it´s quiet.
You all manchilds with your gaymen keyboards are deluded as fuck.
It will just make Windows better all around. Everything will be smoother and more fluid, not just program boot. Alt+tab will be faster, switching between tabs in your browser of choice will be faster, opening up settings in Windows will be faster, literaly everything will be faster. Not just program boot and computer boot.
I'll take the b8.
Bought 160gb ssd just to try with os and some programs, werked better than I thought it would, so I got a 250 gb for my audio sample and vst library. Holy fuck, I can never go back, now.
I want 1tb drives to drop in price so bad, I can taste it
>be me, gaming with friends on teamspeak
>friends are having issues logging in, because lel F2P Korean MMO (ArcheAge)
>Friend says, "Brb, restarting computer."
>User left your channel
>2 seconds pass
>User has joined your channel
>"... You have an SSD, don't you?"
Placebo effect my ass.
dual monitors is a fucking godsend for video/ audio editing, m8. Especially if you're into gamecap stuff.
personally, I use a Monoprice drawing monitor as my second one. Resolution isn't great, but damn, it makes editing shit easier
I think mine should be here today. Too hype to sleep. First solid state drive I've ever gotten. I'm going to install a 64 bit OS on it and finally be able to take advantage of the extra RAM I just installed on Sunday.
>having more than 1-2 games installed at once
Don't tell me you're one of those losers that don't finish games they've started or one of those faggots that keep games installed after they've completed them.
>bought 120 Gb solid state intel SSD over a year ago
>saw no real world performance improvement because i rarely ever restart, run multiple computers, laptop was still slow after putting it in there, and now it resides in my old pc doing fucking nothing
i'll wait until 2 TB models are cheap, fuck buying into this tech when 120 GB was the best buy at the time.
Nigga you stupid. That's like buying a GPU, browsing Facebook all day, then complaining that the GPU didn't make Facebook load faster. It is your own fault for not understanding how an upgrade would benefit you.
How about every single program you'll ever start will load almost instantly?
How about no moving parts? How about almost no heat generated?
How about an SSD being completely silent?
How about way less power being used?
You cannot be this retarded, among all the mediocre advances of the last few years, you chose to pick one the one that actually is noticeably better in every regard except Price/GiB
I got 2 x 250GB SSD
Its the cheapest upgrade you can do
Dollar to performance ratio is amazing
What the fuck people, stop wasting your money on shit you don't need and join the master race
Chrome being faster than firefox
>replace friend's chrome with firefox
>replace shortcut's icon to chrome's and rename it to chrome
>install chrome theme
>"I updated your chrome, check it out"
Later on we had the argument of Firefox Vs Chrome and he insisted his chrome was faster than my firefox while I tried to explain that his laptop is just faster
Daily reminder computer bus is bottleneck for your SSD, SSD have same speed as 7200/10000/10025/10500RPM and little lower than 15000RPM HDD (but HDD had lowed price 15k 146gb ~26$) than connect as SATA1/2/3.
Only connecting via PCI-E and SATA3.2(maybe?) make your SSD better than HDD.
>Its cute when retards
It's cute when you wear rainbow socks and ride on dragon dildo.
Use Gentoo with SystemD is not cute.
>equate throughput with speed
Usually is nobody make the enterprise class HDD with locally speed lower than 1500/3000 MB/s.
Now I'm no mathematician, but it seems to me that these numbers are less than 1500 MB/s
>tfw installing an OS on an SSD for the first time
>tfw not having enough time to get a drink between prompts
>tfw opening the web browser for the first time
Exempt for some of the most popular multiplayer games. You will be waiting for your teammates. But yes it improves single player games a bit. >>45232971
Probably a little, but a windows reinstall will have a bigger impact. And it will still get slow like windows always does.
he's not gay honest, he has a kid so he can't be gay hehehe....
>u fukin retard lul
Please, tell me more, you so highly intelligent person.
If you don't know differences between locality and externally is not my problem, here specification:
6Gb/s=768MB/s theoretical maximum
>1500 MB/s I send links to HDD with "locally speed" 2370 MB/s theoretical maximum
Nobody can stop you from buying 1-3TB enterprise class SSD with PCI-E.
wat the fuck is vespula, a razer mousepad!?
>provides an ultrasmooth finish that goes hand in hand with the enhanced optical sensitivity from your Razer™ naga™ mouse
why haven't I started a business selling ugly mousepads to stupid fucks?
You don't need to be rich to have a 120Hz monitor anon
>wanting a good ping
>downloading while gaming, ever
Seriously, I have a porn addiction, but even I don't need to download it while I'm gaming online with friends (or just random pubbies)
>has 10gig fibreop, never gives any fucks when it comes to bandwidth
The 2 TV's that are on don't even slow it down.
I'm still not going to buy a gadget because I can't be bothered to close my torrents, or whatever, while I'm off shooting Swat in the face in Payday.
try running more then 6 layers at 1080 60p on resolume with out ssds
at work i run minimum 3 usually 5 or 6 monitors depending on available space and power
seriously looking into pcie ssds anyone have any experience with them?
You people must really never used a solid state drive . Once you go SSD you don't go back. I always have at least a 60 gb for the OS and photoshop. Yes photoshop greatly benefits from SSDs
pretty much most of the shit "audiophiles" talk about
Awww, wassamatta OP, not enjoying your Salvation Army computer from the 1990's anymore? LOL poorfags/NEETs, have to bash nice things other people have so they don't cry and slit their wrists.
the term 'retina' is cringy, but this is bullshit. A rMBP's screen is fucking gorgeous compared to the old 1400x900 displays. Same as comparing your old 600x480 monitor to a 1920x1080 monitor.
>>using safety razors instead of disposable walmart razors
inb4 some asshole claiming straight razor superiority.
>implying everyone on /g/ doesn't have a neckbeard
>>duel monitors for more productivity
dual monitors are superior and master race. poorfags wouldn't understand.
>>overclocking makes your pc faster
it does but not by a substantial amount most of the time. if you pay for your electricity overclocking is pointless.
>>linux is safer than windows
it can be if you know what you're doing, bsd is probably the safest because no one uses it. any computer can be safe, all you have to do is never connect it to a network or the internet
yeah I found multiple monitors useless really
I just use virtual desktops now using the software Dexpot tm
I like having one gaming monitor and one monitor for really good colour and res though
This pretty much, although there are certain variables.
Any SSD will pretty much rejuvenate any PC in the last 10 years, but to really reap the benefits it can't be running on a single core Celeron using fucking SATA I and expect a tremendous improvement, it'll be a big one, sure, but that's usually because the hard drive on those components was slow as shit and probably dying anyway, so anything would make it better.
It's always much better to just go with a medium-tier overclockable CPU and get an SSD (like the G3258), than going i7-3770k or whatever's the hottest new thing right now and still run a hard drive.
Also OCing helps tremendously.
I am looking to get some decent hi-fi speakers and amp.
if I want to play from my PC you would recommend using a dac between the amp and PC?
I have a Xonar Sound card isnt that doing the same job already?
I can't really help you, man.
My setup is a modified Logitech Z-2300, from which I replaced the speakers with a pair of Cabasse Antiguas, using custom-soldered RCA to bare wire copper cables.
I'm playing all my music from my PC through the jack output of the X-Fi Titanium sound card in there. That sound card has an amplified DAC, and combined with the power provided by the Z-2300 kit, I don't need any external amp.
Windows volume @ ~25% + Z-2300 at a quarter of available power is loud enough.
My computer install is a part of me. It goes through the years, building character. We become an unstoppable duo. Why wouldn't I take that great friend with me as I reach for new heights in performance? Why would I betray him for no reason?
The majority of my boot time comes from loading stuff before windows. FML
Actually multi blade razors from Gillete and Schick clog up really fast because I have thick facial hair and they made shaving a painful experience for me, for someone with my type of facial hair saftey razors have made shaving a much less painful experience.
They're cheaper too.
internal sound cards are the biggest placebo of all time unless you have a 10 year old mobo that doesn't into 5.1 channel surround sound. Most recent ones have 8 channel.
external recording interfaces are a bit different
I know this is massive b8 but none the less I will have to say moving a game from hdd to sdd doubled my fps at 1080p for many games meaning my mid-tier laptop plays 60fps in modern games beyond it's scope.
Difficult to believe that's the placebo effect.
OP must be super buttmad that I only use SSD in my system.
If you're using Windows 7, there's already a service called SuperFetch, that takes files you access frequently, and loads them into RAM for a more responsive experience. Assuming you already have this enabled, you shouldn't see much performance gains at all for general purpose things. Now, SSDs do still have faster read/write speeds, and a way faster access time, but Microsoft has already done a pretty good job with their modern OSs when it comes to improving performance for those with mechanical drives.
No they're not. Yes it gets warm, but it doesn't affect anything like the lifespan or CPU overclocks. If anything, bigger heatsinks would make the heat spread more to other components, but that's pretty negligible anyway.
