Don't you ever get bored of going through the motions?

You make some shitty attempt at posting inflamatory content, a few people take the bait, and you reply with pictures from your meticulously sorted reaction pic folder in a vain attempt to feel like people care about your ass.

I used to be like this when I was new to rainmeter, I really wanted to make my desktop overly rice, but then i realized it was mostly useless and that rainmeter is best used in a simple and non invasive way. I still do everything the same as before I used it, it just adds a little info and convenience and still looks nice.

Because the spec of dirt is bigger than one pixel. It's like 2x2 in terms of pixel size.
Even if it was only one pixel it'd still be noticeable on dark colors.

And god its good when you get used to it
.
I got into the habit of using hotkeys when I still used windows, I guess the dmenu is similar to hitting super and typing back on windows though.

I try to get people to stop clicking things all the time, but even my friends who consider them tech enthusiasts wont even use the search box in windows.
It's not hard to switch to using the keyboard mostly, and it makes things so much quicker. I guess people just like clicking things though.

Not that I can talk I only figured out last week that alt+(1,2,3...) switches to that tab in firefox. Using the super key for i3 and alt for firefox makes getting around pretty easy.

It'd be purely for posting rice pictures though.
I'd still post it with a skinnier padding but. That's just me.
>>
>>43310187
I was actually trying that but it wasn't possible with my set up, my next attempt will be making a certain tyling style high padding and the rest none IDK yet

the padding does make it easier to differentiate between windows though
>>
>>43310170
but it's just so...
bad
>>
>>43310209
I hide borders normally, I haven't bothered to look but if I can colour my borders as transparent I could abuse that to simulate adding padding.

I haven't even tried yet though. I heard it's not possible to bind a hotkey to do it in i3 thats all.

I usually find differentiating between windows fine. I try not to have more than like 3/4 programs open on each workspace though.

this is an x61 so the resolution is so low it often makes things seem crammed together without padding, its a lot more useable with at least some; it's also the reason for the thick borders, I am using Pytyle2

Go suck an asshole.

BASIC was one of the very early languages.

VB may not be difficult to learn, and I DID actually know SOME BASIC at one point just from a few online pages, but I never actually got around to learning how to make anything useful with it.

I made a test web browser once, but it sucked.

And
>VB in uni
Yeah, because they didn't teach this shit in high school.
I probably would've been all over programming classes if they had them.

And what about C++, huh? I said I'm taking a class in that too.

I'm not even a CS major OR a CIS major. I'm an International Business major, you dumbass.
(Although, I was Electrical Engineering in my first semester of college, but the reason I quit that is the same reason I'm not majoring in Computer SCIENCE: I fucking hate Calculus (though it does make more sense than Accounting...)

So, considering I'm not actually even IN THE FIELD, it's not as bullshit as you think. I can't even technically TAKE a Web Programming course, because that's after Computer Programming II. Before I got that book in May, I didn't even know what the fuck PHP was (other than Personal Home Page [or PHP Hypertext Preprocessor])

And now I already have signups, logins, logouts, profile page creation, redirects, and a working database in MySQL.

Give it like two years, and I'll probably know C++, Ruby, C, C#, VB, BASIC, and Java.
(Mostly interested in C, C#, and C++ to make an OS).

But, for this website, some assholes like you said it'd never see the light of day (around Christmas).
It's already like 40% done, and I still got a month before classes start back up. So, whatever asshole said that can eat their words when it launches and gets profitable.

Also, is Windows only allowed to be installed on what it calls "disk 0"? I had to unplug my other HDD to even install it. Also why can't these "paid developers" create some drivers for generic hardware?
The only thing that doesn't remind me of early 90's/late 80's tech in this software is the looks.

Lucky.

Literally the only computers class we had in high school was like how to use the Internet and Microsoft Word. We may have done a little Excel and PowerPoint...

And that was only a half-year course.

We did like a couple presentations or some shit...

In primary school, though? They let us in a room with computers and either let us play games or forced us to do "proper typing" programs.

I was never offered ANY kind of programming until college unless I knew where to look on the Internet. And most of those guide are incomplete for someone completely new to a language.

Yeah, ok, I see what you're getting at, but believe it or not, I barely had enough anger to do anything more than have an angry look on my face and a very slightly angry voice while reading what I typed.

I actually typed that pretty calmly. But, I don't need assholes who don't even know my situation to be saying what little I've done with what little training I've been offered is pathetic/not worth shit/etc.

As I stated in this post
>>43311611
I never had a REAL computer course AVAILABLE to me until college.

I WISH I could've learned programming in primary and high school, even VB in like 6th grade or something, then maybe regular BASIC and some intro C/C++ stuff in high school, but I had no teachers who could do that.

In fact the closest thing to a legit computer teacher we had was laid off and the principal's husband taught that class I mentioned.

In high school, the closest thing to legit programming I had was making some programs using AutoHotKey (although for macros, they were pretty good - GUI displays, if-else things for quizzes, etc.), but I had no access to teachers for a REAL programming language until college.

I didn't even get to learn Photoshop until my third semester in college. We didn't even have THAT in high school.

It just pisses me off that the work I've actually done to learn this stuff get shit on by assholes when I try to soothe my own ego by making these things seem better than they are for my own benefit. You think I don't know this is entry-level stuff?

But, considering I AM entry-level AND I've worked hard to learn it, it's kinda some of the best I can be proud of in terms of programming...

I once thought I was bad, but this is worse, and apparently, /g/ is used to weird crap like this.

Know how a lot of us learned programming? We taught ourselves. Using either books or the internet. Stop blaming your environment for your shortcomings and mistakes
>>
>>43311766
Well, in terms of programming, I've been at a disadvantage.

No one in my family is really good with computers, let alone programming. Even if I knew nothing of programming, I'd STILL be the most tech-savvy in my house... and among basically everyone in my family that I know...

So, it's kind of a red button when people piss on what I do actually know... because they don't know WHY I'm so behind what I COULD have learned.

I find it hard to believe that every high school graduate in Germany knows Assembly and Java well.
Are you sure you didn't opt in for it or something?
>>
>>43311816
>>/out/
faggot
>>
>>43311796
Yeah, don't even worry about it. TL;DR is just that.
>>
>>43311818
Assembly was opt-in I think, java (or some other OO language) is definitely mandatory
>>
>>43311835
I have literally no reason not to just go study now.
>>
>>43311841
I should probably add that school varies from state to state in germany so I can only speak for bavarian graduates
>>
>>43311815
Dude, I grew up thinking that knowing how to use Office was skillful until about high school.

My parents don't even use Facebook. My uncle was the most computer-savvy person I knew as a kid... and he... actually IDK what the fuck he did with it most of the time.

But, yes, it was to a decent extent a shortcoming and a mistake to not look up more about it.
But, I still didn't know where to start.
I once looked up how to use the DOS prompt, but I didn't really know what it was for until years later when the DOS shell was WELL out-of-date.
I might have been like... 8-10 and changed the name of a drive partition or something to "fungus" to be funny.
I didn't know what to do with it, and no one I knew, knew either, so I didn't go much into it.
>>
>>43311841
So pretty much any adult younger than 25 or so in Germany knows Java? By that I mean far, far beyond hello world.
>>
>>43311891
Chances are that most people forget everything about Java as soon as they graduate, but yes, in theory, every graduate SHOULD know about OOP and fundamentals such as system design, inheritance and abstractions.

I think we also learned about basic algorithms and the Big O notation, though the latter might've been opt-in
>>
>>43306373
Used slacke17 to install it It was a theme bundled with it.
>>
I wanted to try out screenfetch but there are many conflicting ways about doing so from a google search. The project's page on github says apt-get install to install it on a *buntu. Of course this doesn't work. What am I missing?
>>
>>43311891
Disregard everything I said, I just looked up the american school system and Highschool is hardly comparable

In Germany we have 3 different tiers of schools you can go to after elementary school, depending on your grades in elementary

The highest / best / most demanding tier ("gymnasium") is again subdivided into scientific and cultural branches that you can chose from, you only learn Java in the scientific branch.
Didn't actually know that, I thought any gymnasiast had mandatory CS courses

It's like your goal seems to be to have a shittier desktop than /g/, but you're only barely below /g/ average.

So basically you suck at whatever it is you're trying to do.

BSD ftp, probably comes with your distro
The command for it is
ftp

If you are wanting to mount a remote ftp share, there's a few good options. would probably go with curlftpfs

How do they work?

I've been into desktop ricing probably since before you ever even saw a computer. I riced even as a child with Windows 3.1

My opinion is worth more than a normal person's

I know it's old as fuck, but does it actually affect you in practice? The only way it affects me is through battery life (which is poor relative to newer kernels) but this, presumably, is going to be improved when Freya hits
>>
>>43312451
I'm guessing you'd rather something like this?
Sorry, I don't care for something so gaudy.

You wouldn't know style and aestheticism if they hit you in the face.
