Good afternoon /g/
My son is 13 years old and smart for his age. But he can be a big short sighted and rushed into things.
He wants to "make a game or animation". Yesterday he downloaded a trial of Adobe Flash, but I discouraged him from learning that since it's a program that's on it's way out.
I suggested maybe he should learn HTML and then HTML5, but he feels like that would take too long. He really just wants to jump straight in and see some results.
- Made a minecraft server on his own for him and his friends to play
But this week he wants to animate something. What program do you recommend?
Tell him he should give up and stop thinking he will ever be in the industry he wants to be in. No, he won't animate or make video games, the closest he will get is being a code monkey intern working for free until he demands to get an actual job where he will then get laid off and replaced by some Indian working for $0.52/hour.
Let him learn what he wants to.
Once you start putting limits on learning and saying "you must learn this instead" you suck the fun out of it and become the asshole.
Don't be an asshole.
>Some dentists website
You know, he's going to figure out sooner or later you're hanging out on 4chan. Do you really want that? Find a more respectable venue to ask questions like this in anon.
Yeah let him learn flash. I remember I got into messing with DAWs by messing with my dad's Mac (he's a huge macfag) and screwing with Garageband for hours.
It was shit, but a good stepping stone for Pro Tools and Logic which I later picked up.
That's a good point, however, after the 30 day trial is over I have to find him a legit copy of Flash or the fun ends anyway. I'd rather pay several hundred dollars for a program that isn't gasping for breath
>Made a minecraft server on his own for him and his friends to play
Wow holy christ what a prodigy.
>implying those 2 things are hard at all.
You're a fucking adult. Act like it.
I can envision you at family gatherings.
>Oh golly! Your 2 year old son took his first steps. What a fucking pleb. Walking is so easy, what's got you in a bundle of joy?
>Oh wow a first word, good-for-fucking-you. how's it feel to have a complete autist for a child? Come back to me when he can speak full, fluent sentences without obvious grammatical errors.
Boy he's a cutie. Too bad he's not your son.
Anyway, regarding the topic at hand - a minecraft server and codeacademy are really just handholding him, tell him that if he wants to make something decent he should take time and actually get into it. If you find a nice way that takes a while to learn, convince him to do it anyway instead of just giving up.
Man poor OP, he just wanted suggestions for his kid.
Shouldn't have posted some random 13 year old kid with Aspergers getting murdered or not qualifying your statement initially with "since he's not completely retarded of a shitty faggot son".
If he's a realist, he's got a false sense of reality. In this day and age there are people 60+ years old going back to college and graduating. It took them 60 fucking years to graduate college, while somewhere out there there's a 15 year old that graduated from Brown. Does that make it any less of an accomplishment for that old man? No.
There are many many people in the REAL world that don't know code, nevermind the fact that they're well beyond the age of 13. Does that make them less intelligent than you because you learned to code when you were 10 and a half?
What the fuck is wrong with pencil and paper? That's how Walt Disney did it. That man had a good head on his shoulders. Hated the jews.
There are no fucking commands in that shit. It's all done with gui's even the fucking port forward.
When my son was 6 in 2006 he used dos for the lulz it didn't even do it to be cool.
It sounds like you're being serious.
Dear god I hope you're not
>Someone didn't take an interest in the things I did until a later age
>instead of focusing on computers from the age of 8, they learned how to play sports, have fun, socialize, they studied rocket science in university instead of CS, and they learned how to be a productive member of society
>but since they don't know how to code I'm obviously smarter.
>>Oh golly! Your 2 year old son took his first steps. What a fucking pleb. Walking is so easy, what's got you in a bundle of joy?
HOLY FUCK /G/
YOU FUCKEN MADE ME CRY OF LAUGHTER
YOU FUCKING FUCKWITS I FUCKING HATE YOU
op should have just lied and said
>mine son is a completely faggot failure NEET but finally did something with his shitty life by doing that codecademy shit or whatever and has been getting into animation and since I don't want him to keep on being a do nothing faggot what would you suggest?
and then proceded to post some stereotypical 20 something year old NEET
I didn't actually imply that those things are hard at all. I did intend for you to note that he's not a completely moron.
He said his son wasn't "a completely moron", he's implying that a moron couldn't do that shit.
>good head on his shoulders
>hated the jews
top kek m8
please answer my question, I'm being serious.
I'm an animator at the studio that does Adventure Time. We're digital, but the animators who have "grown up" on digital are extremely shitty and their animations look all rigid, because they're used to just, for example, selecting an arm and rotating it, instead of actually redrawing the arm for each frame, which encourages adding nuance to the motion since you're redrawing it anyway.
The one thread you decide to be funny is when I'm browsing at work.
Also OPs son should just learn how to torrent. free porn and video games will keep him busy until he's about 25
>Found in swamp
The laddeh should've checked himself before he Shrek'd himself.
>mine knew at least three extremely complex programming languages like ruby or CSS by the age of six
Sorry to say but you're a retard if you think a 2 year old moron couldn't figure that out.
>wow he knows 3 languages!!!
Get ready to get BTFO
>son just turned 4
>working at MIT labs
>almost to a conclusion about P versus NP problem
>engineering next era's quantum computing
OP if you're still around I thought I'd offer some insight.
HTML5 engines are actually very easy to use. I've never used flash, but I've used several engines and HTML5 is by far the simplest, and I don't think it'll be dead any time soon.
>they studied rocket science in university instead of CS
>but since they don't know how to code I'm obviously smarter.
If you're a rocket scientist and you don't know some basic coding skills, you're going to be fucking screwed in the industry.
>implying I didn't read >>43152475
the fucking shill is real, just gonna keep my mouth shut until the summerfags get tucked in
