I was worried. No poops yesterday. I even made a pot of coffee this morning in prep of a rough day. I never drink coffee and on the rare occasion I do, it is great for getting the intestines going. However, as soon as I could smell the coffee, everything got going anyway.

No.

After 7 days of fasting you must make your refeed longer. You need to start out with stuff like 4oz juice mixed with 4oz water only for the first day every 4 hours. 2nd day is 4oz juice mixed with 4oz water plus 4oz bone broth every TWO hours. 3rd day is same thing plus some small things of fruit, like no more than half a cup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 4th days is same thing but with more fruits and adding in some normal diet stuff. Keep the amounts low and drink as much water as possible. Remember to keep taking your vitamins, minerals, and salts during this time or you will get dehydrated. Do abdominal massages several times a day for at least 5 days after breaking your fast. This will help prevent constipation.

Google up more about how to refeed after an extended fast. Otherwise, you can end up killing yourself or becoming so constipated that you need medical assistance. Don't just take my word for any of this, do proper research.

A few questions

Been having the occasional diabetes like symptoms for over a year now, sudden crashes in energy levels, waves of tiredness, extreme hunger out of the blue, frequent urination. I might go days or weeks and be continuously fine, or I might have bad days for days in a row.

Went to the doctors about a year ago for a blood test, said I was fine. Does that definitely rule out pre diabetes? Or can it sometimes not show up?

So, the past year I decided to cut out sugar, start weight training etc, and while the frequency of having these moments has gone down (I no longer have to check I have emergency food in my pockets every time I go out somewhere), I still have them. Which is incredibly frustrating, because it means for hours on end I might be completely useless, unable to concentrate or do anything productive.

Maybe my insulin levels are used to a routine, if that makes sense. I'm used to having something for breakfast, something around 10.30-1.00ish, something for lunch. The advice I've been following so far has been eat little and often, so you don't go hungry and won't have crashes. But maybe this is masking the problem rather than solving it; for example, I had breakfast today, and because I had to be out somewhere I had to skip my 10.30-11.00 snack and couldn't eat until lunch, by which time I was starving, exhausted, and felt like falling asleep. At this 2 hour meeting I went to piss 3 times, whereas everyone else only went once. This was with other people having giant mugs of coffee as well, and me having a small cup of water. So I'm thinking, get my body used to going out of routine by intermittent fasting or full fasting, so that in similar situations my body will know to carry on functioning normally rather than go full REEE it's time for food you need to eat something and make me crash.

Other, normal, people seem to be able to skip meals, or have something filled with sugar for a meal, they don't really have to think about it, and function just fine. Whereas I, on my supposedly healthier than the average diet, avoiding sugar and junk food, have to regularly plan my day around how much I've eaten so I end up able to concentrate for a specific thing or whatever.

So, will intermittent or full fasting help do you think? A reset button of sort for my insulin or appetite or however it works?

And if I do do it, presumably I ll, at first, feel starving and unable to concentrate but eventually I'll get used to it?

I read a biography about Steve Jobs and he did crazy diet stuff all the time, he would go for week long fasts and was still able to do work and have to energy to get on with things? Presumably that's normal and I'm not?

Mostly, the same as before the fast only lighter. This was for weight loss, not mental clarity. I lost 16lbs during the whole process. After a few days of "normal" diet I'll be 19:5 IF, which is normal for me on days I need to get lots of work done, only now it'll be standard protocol. Yeah, I'm not a doctor, but relying on carbs can make for some really shitty roller coaster rides. Google up, "hypoglycemia". You can be fine then hulk out and/or crash and burn. Fasting, even IF can really help curb that problem. Water fasting, which is what I did, helps your mental outlook towards food in general. Only then, do you truly understand what your diet has been doing to you. Hypoglycemia is mostly likely your problem, not diabetes. It is extremely common and easily mistaken by non-health professionals as "diabetes."

I did a 10-day fast. It wasn't until my 6th days did all the negative symptoms go away fully, save for 2. After that, it was amazing. The 2 symptoms that remained were hunger, which isn't all that bad really and boredom. The boredom got worse with each day and is a common symptom. The best thing for that is to do physical labor. Not just mental labor. Like movies/tv all sucked and seemed to be worthless. Also, my libido went way down, which was fine for me since I'm like a rabbit normally. My general body state was the same as when having coffee, which I rarely ever ever drink. Talking and conversations went up, both online and off.

anyways, you can get too many calories, I'm one that believs that CICO+IF if not throwing keto in additionally is the way to go. However, 16:8 does have use in lowering blood insulin and increasing insulin sensitivity, which plays a part in keeping weight on and how you digest and store your energy.

1) keep your electrolytes (salts) in check. You need shit like Potassium, Sodium, Magnesium, etc... or you'll feel like shit. Take this in pill form or drink some bone broth.

2) Every time you fast this changes. You'll feel less shitty each fast when your body depletes its glycogen reserves... and switches over into keto. Doing some workouts for the first few days will help you SLAM into keto and get on with it.

3) I worked my way up to 14 days so far, felt like shit on day 7ish, then started taking supplements and felt fine. When I did a 10 day fast I felt like shit on day 5/6 and didn't have supps. I took some Manzanilla olive oil and felt fine. See point 1, if you don't keep your electrolytes in check you'll feel like shit... listen to your body.

If you're skinny already then IF on like an 8/16 hour cycle is fine for maintaining insulin sensitivity, and there are also longevity benefits. If you're a fat fuck your metabolism and hormones are fucked and 16 hours won't be enough time to knock your insulin down enough to tap into body fat, you'll just feel like shit. You can do the 8/16 on a low carb keto diet plan, but you need carbs to get the most out of the gym so its too difficult of a balancing act for people that have no idea how to eat. That in combination with fat fucks being sedentary and they'll never get into keto or deplete their glycogen reserves.

A better alternstive is Alternate Daily Fasting because it extends the fasting window, and lifting because you'll be giving your body what it needs to build muscle only on days when you work out.

30 minutes before gym, take some protein. Work out 1-2 hours however long it takes... then go home and eat. On a long term fast especially, you'll be killing a lot of that gut bacteria, both good and bad. Autophagy occurs any time the body is in a fasted state, even overnight you'll get some autophagy. The other moron telling you that you need to fast for 3 days to instantiate it is flat out wrong.

If you have loose skin I would suggest two days of fasting per week non-consecutive to start out with.

Consume a +500 calorie surplus on the feeding days to help offset weight loss if you're not intending to lose weight.

After a few months you should start seeing improvements. It is unlikely that you'll ever see a complete tightening of the skin, but you will see something.

i haven't finished so I can't give you a full debrief but here are some of my takeaways. I've done multiple 3-5 day fasts before, I'm on hour 72 of my first fast w/ ECA. I've been on ECA for about 3 weeks now.

Pros
> good energy supplementation rather than relying on the faster's "high", which I don't really get
> additional fat burning
> appetite suppression, great for getting through the first 5 days of hunger

Cons
> Blood Pressure can go up if I don't remember to take a baby aspirin or space my dosages properly. Ephedrine is a vasoconstrictor so definitely don't do any cardio
> Desensitization is real. I try to take a day off each week to keep that in mind. I don't get withdrawals too badly but it's not fun
> acid reflux can be pretty nasty taking all this shit on an empty stomach

Basically, combining the two has exacerbated the cons of going on ECA but negated the cons of fasting while synergizing the fat loss effects. After this i'm going to cycle off ECA for a long time. In the future, I will heavily consider using ECA to help get through the initial hunger days of a fast.

That was a big mistake. It felt like I was passing a broken-glass impregnated Brillo pad through my lower intestine. Like actual damage and it still hurts a little, but it is getting better. Day 6 was my last day for not feeling good. Day 7 I felt normal, but bored. Prior to the fast, I would get tired at 2pm-4pm and need a nap most days. During the fast that went away completely. If you're experiencing all those symptoms then simply eat something and try again.

The fact that you're getting "near blackouts" is extremely disconcerting and should be cause for alarm. This could indicate all sorts of problems, the primary being low blood pressure.

Unless you have presentation of some symptomology related to metabolic syndrome then you should not be trying to fast for 21 fucking days in the first place.

You're on /fit/ so you should be lifting hard and heavy. And you can't do that on an extended fast.

I have no idea why this moron of an OP is shilling for such extended fasts for everyone but it's counter-productive for a muscle development mindset.

If you want to get the benefits of fasting then simply do IF16:8 and toss in one or two days of non-consecutive fasting. You'll get all of the benefits with no side effects like you're describing and on top of it all you can still lift and exercise regularly. And even if you eat a 500 calorie surplus on your feeding days and fast for 2 days of the week you can still put on significant lean mass while controlling your fat.

This is the biggest problem with fasting. You drink 2 gallons of water and piss out what feels like 3 gallons of water. The reason you are dehydrated and piss out so much is specifically because you need salt and other electrolytes. You actually become more dehydrated with the increase of water intake without those things. They are also what causes your headaches. Your brain will start to swell and you can die. This has happened on many occasions and is pretty sad considering all you need to prevent it is some salt.

Also, you don't need coffee for anything.
