Daily reminder at the end of the day, only calorie intake matters

Prev thread: >>40993384

Who is /fat/ for? Fat members of /fit/ who want
>Lose weight
>Get a more /fit/ body by lifting weights
>Autistically change your diet to some ultra vegetable no sweets autism because extremism is always good am i right ;^)
Here we ask others for advice and give moral support to one another if you are too weak to survive solo. We all know losing weight when you are fat is easy if you just reduce calorie intake, literally piece of cake. At the end of the day this is a support general whose goal is to help and motivate the chubby channers who need to lose weight for a number of reason. Please be warned that there are some chronic idiots who post in this general giving horrible advice to troll or to reassure their extremist autism works for themselves, dont bother, always remember calorie intake, if it is lesser than how many calories your body burns you ll be fine.
And remember, if you are a loser when fat you ll still be a loser if you are thin, your weight isnt the problem.

Yeah it is accurate if you are overweight, the TDEE need BODY FAT else it is wrong.

Tdee calculates with normal body fat around 20%, most fat people are around 40%.

Just test the difference between 20% and 40% body fat, the difference in calorie TDEE is fucking huge.

M8, whenever you like it or not that is the plain truth.

Body requires X amount of calories to go on every day
You eat X-(500 to 1200)
Body has to get calories from fat reserves
You lose weight.

Playing around with other shit are just small changes, they arent worth the effort.

I've been noticing that ever since the new Dr. Fung science has been hitting the board these fat generals are specifically themed as calories in calories out.

Now, calories in and calories out is complete bull shit if you don't consider insulin sensitivity. You will not lose weight if you don't incorporate a fasting period and lay off the carbs.

OP, I suspect malicious intent. That or you are extremely bull headed. Either way, fuck you.
>>
>>41001212
And i dont do fasting
>>
>>41001212
i was thinking of fasting for 48 hours, what would the ideal days be though? rest days? wont i need the proteins to recover?
>>
>>41001231
Congratulations, you've lost 10 pounds of water weight.

If you cut your calories and don't fast then your body will lower its metabolism. You will lower your calories, your body will compensate with lowering the metabolism and your weight will plateau and you will feel like shit.

Counting. Calories. Does. Not. Work. If you don't incorporate a >12 fasting period between your last and first meal of the day. Processed carbohydrates will give you type 2 diabetes, make you insulin resistant, and addicted to sugars, breads, and cereals.
>>
>>41001269
>10 pounds
>pounds

But please, tell me about those 22pounds of water weight ;^)
>>

20% or more of your TDEE is physical activity. So it's not like your energy expenditure is going to be stable at any weight.

>>
>>41001212
Fung says controversial shit on purpose. Controversy means more publicity.

Of course calorie counting is useful. Gym bros have been cutting weight with just calorie restriction for ages. They continue controlling their calories after losing the weight and their metabolic rate recovers gradually with lifting and increasing calories. People on /fit/ have been doing it successfully for years. It's pretty clear that non-gym-going normies are just doing it wrong by overeating after they end their diet.

I'm willing to believe that things like alternate day fasting could be more effective and could reduce or even eliminate metabolic rate slowdown. But it's hardly the case that calorie restriction doesn't work at all or that you can't keep the weight off permanently. It works and you can. Spouting contrarian hyperbole is just counterproductive, if what you really want is to promote the practice of fasting.

>>41000374

You guys really need to rethink the 500 calorie deficit for fat people. This is a deficit that should be practiced when you're low body fat and trying to prevent muscle loss. At overweight and obese ranges you can safely have a much higher defect.
>>
>>41001745
Yeah, a lot of anons here cut pretty low. The pasta is just for idiots who don't know anything.
>>
>>41001745
I agree, but you need to work up to it.

Started at a -250 just to get used to counting calories and kept slowly increasing it while losing weight at a more or less constant right.

Around -1000 now pretty comfortably.
>>
>>41001789
I cut at -2000 most days of the week and don't eat for 2 days. Muscle loss is a meme, especially when your bmi is over 30.

At 250 you don't need any calories aside from maybe 100g of protein and some vitamin supplements.
>>
Is 700 to 800 calories a day too little? I'm 6'4 and 270 pounds and pretty much only eat pork loin chops and canned tuna and whatever my gf makes for dinner, and it usually rounds to 800 calories a day. I do around 10 minutes of cali a day, and some bicep curls and that's about it.
>>
>>41001855
>Muscle loss is a meme
it's not, but when you're really overweight you can cut pretty low without issue. Some scot guy fasted for 1 year, got checked out by a doctor weekly and was fine.

If you're not obese cutting that low can do permanent metabolic damage after an extended period.
>>
>>41001864
I went from 280>200 in about 4-5 months. Losing about 5 lbs/week starting. Eating like you've been eating. I felt 100% fine, lifted 3days/week.

I got constipated, though. After 3 weeks I was able to shit 2-3 pebbles. 3-4 weeks after that I went to the ER and had an enema.

Filled up 2 toilets, worse pain I've ever experienced. Embarrassing. Eat more, get some fucking fiber for the love of god.
>>
>>41001864
i do the same thing at 280, mainly due to not having food in the house and not being hungry. only got fat due to depression in a bad relationship a few years ago
>>
>>41001874
Sorry, I meant it's a meme when you're obese. Obviously you can't cut that low if you're not.
>>
>>41001900

me again, i do have really bad sleeping, i usually get like 3 or 4 hours here and there, today i didnt even know what day it was, i thought it was sunday, and for a guy my weight my stomach is HUGE ive seen other people my height and weight with a gut much smaller
>>
whats your stance on LCHF
>>
>>41001935

Have you lifted in the past?

I've lifted on and off for years and after 6 months of not lifting I started hitting the gym hard again. I've been on a similar super low calorie diet but since I started going to the gym again my weight loss stopped. I have very noticeable change in muscle size and I think it's due to my body filling muscles back up with water like they are when you lift regularly. Hoping this effect will subside and I can go back to the steady weight loss I had before.

Your genetics affect your fat storage. It's also what you were eating before, probably a lot of soda and other things high in simple carbs.

I'm not really sure how much sleep affects fat loss. You should really try eating 1 meal a day with as little carbs as possible.

Look up the two compartment problem by dr fung.

my diet before i decided to get off my ass and do something consisted of the same dinners, but tons of soda and lunch used to consist of carb city and crap tons of cheese. ive since been able to cut out cheese and all softdrinks without cravings . im considering a 48 hour fast every weekend, i also developed a small hernia in my bellybutton because of my rapid weight gain, so doing crunches has to be slow and small rep, but the doctor requires i maintain working my abs and monitor any pain

Skinnyfat here. I cut from 225lbs last year, now I'm at 170 5'10".

Dont let anyone tell you to bulk. You have to bite the bullet and go full skelly mode. Your lifts will stall, you will feel weak, you will be weak, you will be small.
But after that you can bulk freely for a year, and make great gains.

Your choice.

>>
This thread is fucking retarded, losing fat isn't fucking rocket science, I started out at 250 and now I'm 190, simply by eating 1200 calories a day, with a 20 minute walk before breakfast, and an hour long workout consisting of 30-40 min cardio, and 20-30 min lifting, did it daily except for Sunday, took me about 7-8 months to do it

Fasting is autistic, stop trying to search for ways out of working out, the best way hands down to lose weight, is to lift and do cardio

Prove me wrong faggots
>>
>>41002935
If you can maintain your deficit, but consume higher calories that's the goal. You'll feel better, be less hungry, will be able to maintain the diet for longer, and you're lose weight faster. Doing any type of activity to increase your tdee is great. A bit of walking here and there, taking the stairs, daily cardio...ect. You'll reach your goal faster and better.

Well, my goal is generally 1500, but I consider it not a failure until 2000, basically. Sometimes I'm just super hungry after I eat 1500 worth and I'd rather go to 2000 than bail on the cut.

In this case, the sweet chili sauce noticably jacks up the calories. A lot of the time I do my stir fry with just soya sauce or something. But for a bit of variety it's worth the extra as long as I'm in my budget.

>>41002940

5'4 grill here lost another three lbs this week so now I weight 181 lbs. Its honestly crazy to think that I have lost 25lbs in just over 3 months. I still have a long way to go but it feels nice to achieve something.

Is it normal to be losing 3 lbs a week now? I was more accustomed to 1.5-2 lbs a week but for the past few weeks I have been losing 3, and honestly I feel like I am eating more non-diet food nowadays.

You will lose the weight. Your calories required will go down because your calorie expenditure goes down. Let's take a look at The Biggest Loser competitor's shall we? They are the most well known participants in the "count calories and exercise more" diet after all.

I will be quoting from the Scientific American:
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/6-years-after-the-biggest-loser-metabolism-is-slower-and-weight-is-back-up/

The study looked at 14 contestants that had lost around 180lbs average.

>their metabolism had slowed and they were burning fewer calories every day than they did before their stint on the show.

Their metabolism was even lower than they first started. They were worse off.

>Six years later, when the six men and eight women went to the National Institutes of Health for follow-up measurements, their weight, on average, was back up to 290 pounds. Only one participant hadn't regained any weight.

This is a 93% failure rate of your beloved diet. Conclusion: BTFO.

How do I cure diabetes /fit/? I got some blood tests done and my blood sugar was 250+ on two occasions even after a day of fasting. I've been on a very strict diet averaging between 1300-1700 calories a day, none of them coming from sugar or carbs. Virtually everything sugar I have eaten has come from carrots or broccoli. I've been at this for almost two weeks and I haven't noticed any ill effects aside from being a little tired.

Since I haven't slipped into a hypoglycemic coma, does that mean I might be able to become healthy again, or should I shoot myself in the head and get it over with?

I don't know what's best for that. I minimize cost and maximize nutrition while not caring much for taste and not at all for fillingness.

I can tell you that wanting to maximize taste is something that can change. It happened to me and I'm glad I can be satisfied with merely getting to eat and not really craving entertainment from my meals.

It's a variable that's really annoying to satisfy because the tastiest things are sweet, salty and fatty foods. Fiber is an impediment for delicousness and fiber is a major factor in fillingness. Low calorie-density dilutes taste. Not that low-calorie filling foods taste bad. There are good ones, I'm sure. But they won't be the tastiest things. And having to compromise taste feels the worst emotionally.

I was mad because you made it sound like it's
>100% you will not lose any weight

Without any damn context, which what you're saying is in the long term due to the yo-yo effect.

And using the biggest loser example is a completely wrong approach.

You know why people get fat in most cases? Because of some sort of mental/habitatul issue, using food to cope. It was in my case, I used food to cope.

Even if I lost weight, I still used food to cope and I would gain it all back. That's the same for these people, they just forced them to lose the weight, without addressing their mental issue that drove them to get that fat in the first place. Obviously with it unchecked, they just ballooned right back into place.

To give an after example, I've been at the leanest point in my life, and even when I hit a bad patch and even if I have a cheat meal, my mental issue is gone and even if I gain a pound or 2, I go back to my lower weight without much effort.

So for fucks sake man, people have a problem with you because you sound exactly like a preacher at a church trying to shove god down my throat, the same 100% belief.

I think Jason Fung is next guy to get stuck in his unshakeable faith. Fung is so confident he's got it all figured out. He says super-contrarian things just be controversial and be attention-grabbing. He doesn't seem likely to consider that he could be overreaching with his conclusions.

Gary Taubes still believes that sugar is the one only cause of obesity. Brian Wansink hasn't changed his research practices. Amy Cuddy is still pushing power posing as a real effect. These are people who will never admit they're wrong and Jason Fung resembles them.

You should really step back and consider whether trusting anyone so deeply is worth the risk of getting caught up in their cult of faith.

Not on a fast it isn't. You burn body fat. Your body also metabolizes dead cells in your body. This process is called autophagy. It cures the skin sagging problem, as you fast, your body will metabolize the loose skin and you will be tight as a spandex.

>>41004053
I have poured over almost every available video of Jason Fung on youtube. At LEAST 20 hours of content. I've watched his 6 part series, 7 hours long, on the aetiology of obesity. I've read several of his scientific articles, backed with studies, on his website.

I have not seen one red-flag. He never plugs his book, its plugged for him, and makes him uncomfortable. He owns his own hospital and answers to no-one but himself. His methods require no medicine. As much as I respect the guy, however, that is not the main issue here. The issue is that it is good science that is curing diabetes (type 2). Its holistic medicine, its getting back to nature. Its something to believe in. Its not a get rich quick scheme, the fasting takes incredible will-power. But when you research it, and you know what is at stake, it makes fasting a breeze.
>>
>>41004053
This is how I feel. Fung is the next Taubes.

He is YouTube and Twitter sellable. The autists on here will spam his YouTube videos while it's trendy and then years later it will be remembered as the Fung meme diet. Just like metabolic advantage of Atkins, etc.

It was all down to CICO and these diets facilitate a method for people to achieve it. Also the best way of selling a product in health & fitness industry is to make a simple idea more complicated.

Post it now.

Or are you saying you don't know shit?
>>
>>41004122
Every time you eat the body releases insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for fat storage. The problem occurs when you have too much insulin and develop an insulin resistance.

"Too much insulin" can result from eating throughout the day and not incorporating a fasting period. When you eat small meals throughout the day you are not doing your body good, you are bathing in insulin and increasing your insulin resistance.

As your insulin resistance increases you will need more food to create more insulin. You will crave foods that are heavily insulinogenic. I.e. carbohydrates such as sugars, breads, cereals, etc. These foods in turn increase your insulin and increase your insulin resistance. Next thing you know you're 300lbs craving cupcakes all day and you're a diabetic.

I've taken medical terminology, body systems and diseases, and anatomy and physiology one and two. I have a general understanding of human physiology. That is the foundation for me to understand what I research. Dr. Fung is far from being my only source of information, but admittedly he is a huge inspiration.

Calories in calories out doesn't work if you do it wrong. It never has and it never will. It makes you miserable and you rebound. People keep trying though, trying and trying.

CICO only works when you consider insulin. It only works if you stay away from carbs and you eat fats and proteins. Whole grains can be fine but they are not essential and you are playing with fire. Because whole grains are the ugly cousin to refined grains, which are literally aids. You also would do well to incorporate a fasting period for your insulin levels to diminish and your insulin sensitivity to readjust to healthy levels.

So count calories, but you have to eat right. And eating right means eating the right foods at the right time.
>>
>>41004145
>I've read several of his scientific articles, backed with studies, on his website.
>The issue is that it is good science that is curing diabetes
Cuddy and Wansink had papers too. Peer-reviewed articles that turned out to be seriously flawed. Medicine and nutrition are among the fields that are most prone to having published peer-reviewed highly-cited articles with positive findings that are utter dog crap. Have you heard of the crisis in science? Ionnaidis' paper Why Most Published Research Findings Are False? This stuff might be right. But skepticism is needed.

>I have not seen one red-flag
The red flags are hard to spot in the science itself. I believed the power posing shit when I first heard of it. Wansink has been publishing papers for over 20 years and it appears likely that it's mostly the same kind of crap as his recent papers that were discovered to contain 150 errors. Like every table had incorrect numbers.

It's the apparent strength of the theory that's the red flag. It's suspicious. Extremely few things are that certain. Especially new theories. Between "the theory is true" and "there's errors in the logic" the latter hypothesis is more likely simply based on how much confidence people have in this theory.

>Its holistic medicine, its getting back to nature. Its something to believe in. Its not a get rich quick scheme
These aren't good signs. Scientists aren't evil. They have incentives beyond money and fame to believe in stuff. Finding out the truth of reality is an intoxicating concept. You want to believe you've got it right. Believing is a positive feeling. Getting into a spiral of positive feelings from seeing things as supporting the belief further makes you seek such evidence and believe even harder.

>I have poured over almost every available video of Jason Fung on youtube. At LEAST 20 hours of content. I've watched his 6 part series, 7 hours long, on the aetiology of obesity.
You're going down the same happy spiral along with him.

>Calories in calories out doesn't work if you do it wrong. It never has and it never will. It makes you miserable and you rebound. People keep trying though, trying and trying.

This is why we can tell you've never lost weight. And are new to the scene.

Yeah insulin can be important. Esp. for skinnier guys losing stubborn fat. It's not important in the lest for fatasses losing 100+ lbs. You're overestimating it's importance, while discounting other hormonal issues that happen with prolong weight loss.

You wanna know why people gain back their weight? It's because they never solved the issue about why they got fat in the first place.

They are losers. It doesn't matter if you fast, or not. You'll lose the same amount regardless. The difference is by not fasting you supply your muscles with a steady stream of AA. If you fast while dieting you run the big risk of excessive muscle loss.

We want to look good, not just cut down. Lift, faggot.

Well its working wonders for me and a lot of other people on this board, so I'm not going to stop anytime soon. I have absolutely no reason to believe that he is wrong in his science. I have not paid a nickel for any of his content, in fact I have saved money not eating.

Yes there are bad studies, this is true. They are everywhere. But that natural attribute is applied to both sides. The studies backed by money, however, are problematic because that indicates bias. They are more prone to publish the studies that help them and hide the ones that don't, simply because, well, money.

Fung isn't marketing. He has a book, that's it. He doesn't sell you medicine, foods, anything. In fact his instructions save you money. This tells me that he's just a cool dude trying to help people.

This is a thread for fats. Their main priority is losing weight. But concerning dieting and muscle mass; on a fast your body releases HGH to maintain muscle mass and bone density. Do you get HGH on a cut? No.

Fasting is simulated starvation. Think back to caveman days. You haven't found any food in a while. Your body pumps you up and gets you amped to go get a meal. If your body went into the mythical "starvation mode" and ate your muscle and shut down your brain and metabolism you would die, right there on the spot.

The body is smarter than that. Read this. Its about fasting and muscle mass.

Weight in at 162lb this morning.

>but I've developed a sore throat and dry nose after having my nose running with mucus all day yesterday

Feel like shit.
>>
>>41004535
Yeah, starving your muscles of it's necessary food while consuming 0 calories yourself is great for your muscle mass. I don't even eat protein anymore, just stave myself! I'm so buff!

I didn't say "starvation mode". You need a constant supply of AA because we use a constant supply of AA. If we don't have the necessary AAs our body will harvest them from unnecessary muscle.

>Your body pumps you up and gets you amped to go get a meal.
What the fuck does that even mean?
>>
What are some kino foods?
>>
>>41004577
What are AA's. Should I know this. I feel like I'm in a Gary Johnson "what is Aleppo" situation. Anabolic Androgenic steroids? I literally know nothing about this and would have to research them.

>What the fuck does that even mean?
It means, in an evolutionary sense, you want your body to give you the energy to go hunt, you don't want it to shut you down. That's suicide. When you are starving your body gears up, it digs into your fat storage and you go beast mode. I just hit my 4 day (96 hour) mark on my fast as the clock hits 8pm eastern. I couldn't feel better. I'm exercising daily and I'm pretty sure I'm gaining strength. Sure I get hunger pangs, but they faded drastically yesterday and are even less so today. My body is fine with eating the stored fat, that's what its there for.
>>
>>41004676
On top of the exercise I was also helping my father renovate his new house today. We planted for trees and I raked the entire yard. 3 hours of sun, which I loved, and hard work. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight, and I've hardly thought about eating.

Look man. There is a middle ground of fasting and eating to maintain a steady supply of AAs. It's called IF. It's been around forever. It's more bodybuilder focused then your extreme version. It consists of eating a big rich protein meal before with some complex carbohydrates mixed in to slow down the digestion before the fasting periods. And supplementing pure BCAAs into your diet during those periods. They won't raise your insulin enough for any response + your muscles are kept fed for most of the fasting period.

It's a technique, usually to target stubborn fat and for very lean dudes, not the only way to lose and keep off weight. You're being very extreme in your view.

>>41004808
OK, I stayed to read this.

Yeah IF is awesome, I was doing it before my extended fast. Extended fasting is more about reseting your digestive hormones and allowing you to crave healthier foods without being hungry all the time. Its also incredibly good for cleansing the body, breaking down old and damaged cells and rebuilding new ones, like renovating. I don't recommend extended fasts for people who are lean because you are at higher risk of losing muscle mass because of the fat/muscle ratio. I have to reiterate that HGH is released at about 20-24 hours on a fast, IF users can abuse this by working out at that mark and then eating right after. Extended fasters benefit from the maintenance of muscle mass and bone density. But this is more acclimated for losing weight as that is what I'm after, until I shed this last bit and start bulking.

Anyways yeah, last post.

I've read success of people who fast for one day, eat 2x for the next with some positive body fat results. My issue with your post is you assume your way is the only way. And counting calories is strictly wrong. It's not, not in the lest. Conflating failed dieters with the failed concept. It's intellectually dishonest. There are lots of specialized techniques out there, at the end of the day though, calories remain supreme.

I'm lactose intolerant, milk can be liquid calories if you're not careful. I have a cup of coconut milk (unsweetened plain) once in awhile and it's still kinda high in fat and calories so I try to reserve it for mixing my protein with (which obviously I can't use a whey based one). I will say this coconut milk and protein plain together tastes way better than normal milk ever did with protein when I was able to drink it. Creamier not gritty and disgusting.

But plant based protein powders seem to taste better in general.

There's some to compact:

First those calculators are only estimates. Going off your own data will give you a clearer picture.

Second: as you're losing weight your tdee
drops, because your metabolism slows a bit and you have less fat to maintain

third, make sure you're getting good nutrition, and eating your protein. Vary up your sources of produce as well as the meats.

Sometimes you can "stall" but not really stall. Water weight can play tricks on you.

http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html/

You also should "reset" your metabolism and hormones with a diet break after a couple months of cutting.

http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/the-full-diet-break.html/

It's a complex issue that requires a lot more soul searching on your part to diagnose.

anyone have experience with going back on carbs after being on keto? how much weight do you gain back when you are out of ketosis?
>>
I have a few questions
So far I'm doing good and making good progress with CICO and lots of small meals, minimal hunger, regular exercise -2lbs a week

But someone mentioned lots of small meals will increase my insulin and make me crave more sweets? Right now I don't crave any sweets but I have whole grain and vegetables as carbs.

Also will I lose fat more if I eat more fat? When I was looking into keto, they said the lack of sugars in the bloodstream will mobilize fat cells. Also is more fats good for brain health? But I also heard glucose is the main source of fuel for the brain. I don't want to cause any damage to brain by eating too little.

Finally, fasting seems like a good meme but I tried it once and I was ravenously hungry and instantly gained all my progress back when it was over. Also I was super weak and foggy. Wth? I heard fasting will make you hungrier because the body increases grehlin. I also heard this is true for extended dieting. Is this why I should have a carb refeed/ cheat day or is that just a meme and I can diet indefinitely on low cal?

Sorry for long post appreciate your input.
>>
>>41006128
Intermittent fasting is a god send. You body adapts to your eating habits. I eat between 12pm-8pm and I am a lot less hungry when I don't have breakfast compared to when I eat breakfast.

I'd recommend giving it a solid week and seeing how you feel after said week.

I did keto before, lost a bunch of weight on it but it's not sustainable long term at all imo, I plan to do IF for life.

My trainer has me cool down with some cardio. She has me aim for calries burned rather than time since everyone burns at different rates but usually I come in early so I can warm up for 30-40 minutes, which usually burns 250-350 depending on how hard I push it, if I raise the incline and resistance etc (I get sick easily so some days I have to take it easy or I won't get through my lifts). Then she usually has me burn 50-150 more calories depending on how much I did before the workout but she always has me do a little bit just to cool down.

I wouldn't go hard as fuck on the cool down cardio unless you're pumped but you have to be doing hours of cardio for it to affect your gains.

But Jesus that's a long time to be at the gym. Then again fitness instructors and shit are at the gym all day being active and they look great (I worked at the YMCA once so I saw a lot of the classes that went on and shit. Saddest day was when one of the instructors found out that despite working out multiple times a day and eating a healthy diet she had diabetes. She just had to adjust more carbs and sugars out of her diet but it was still devastating to hear and still a difficult adaption.)

I'm stoned and rambling sorry getting ready to go to the gym myself. Idk if it's true but my husband said smoking weed before you work out will keep acid from building up in your muscles so they won't hurt as much. Seems to be true since I have decently manageable pain even though I work with a trainer who doesn't let me take it easy and I'm usually semi high when I go in. Helps my stamina with cardio at any rate and I know it can promote weight loss if you exercise under the effects (it raises your heart rate and metabolism)
