I saw the keto meme start from nothing more than a few posts on reddit and now it's a major thing and arguably bigger than the atkins diet.

It blows my fucking mind that people fall for it. I'm diabetic and so I learned the dangers and problems of ketosis and why I should always avoid it more than a decade ago. Yet people are making up a diet and throwing "caveman" memes at it with the name "keto" so people think it's actually based on valid science. It isn't. Ketosis is damaging, destructive and ultimately bad, attempting to generate it with diet is nothing short of retarded unless you're epileptic and REALLY understand what you're doing.

Fortunately 99% of people on a keto diet will never reach ketosis, but they're still put themselves at the same risks as an atkins diet would.

Wholegrains are not evil.
Sugars are not evil and exist in most of the foods you eat.
Wholegrain breads are fucking great for you, including rye.
Most root vegetable are great, especially beetroot which is jam packed with sugar.
Dairy has some conflicting issues to consider depending on what you want your body to do, but is also very good for you from the right sources (Kefir, yoghurts, cottage creams, sour creams, plant milks, etc)
Legumes and beans are great for you.

In short, keto diets are at best stupid and pointless and at worst dangerous as fuck.


and while I'm posting in this thread, following an image on the internet or on a poster for what to base your diet on is ridiculous and equally stupid. Base what you eat on what's good for you and what your body needs instead, the information is out there.

Don't talk nonsense. Almost all the pasta I ate in Italy was multigrain or wholegrain. They, and the med, eat a lot less refined carbs than the rest of the world. Don't spout shit.
