>>35638423 Diet and exercise can lower you down to normal range. If this is not working, meds are not a bad option. There are a lot out there with minimal side effects. You really don't want high BP for too long.
>>35638338 How do you feel about hospital power structures? Are you willing to get consult from your colleagues? Are your nurses willing to correct you/ask questions or do they just do whatever you tell them regardless of personal opinions?
Recently read an excerpt from Dr. Hilfiker's book "Healing the Wounds" for Medical Ethics and I was pretty surprised at how guarded and egotistical a lot of doctors can be. Not saying you are, but I'm just wondering what your experience is.
>>35638596 >How do you feel about hospital power structures?
They are great. We are taught that patients get the best care from large health care homes/systems.
> Are you willing to get consult from your colleagues? There is no way I can keep up with current research/protocols on every specialty. I need to consult all the time. Mostly just to cover my ass. >Are your nurses willing to correct you/ask questions or do they just do whatever you tell them regardless of personal opinions? I like to invite all staff to practice at the top of there license. I will have a couple nurses that I trust go ahead and treat according to protocol before I even put orders in. They can be great, but you have to be able to trust them. They are very good to me in return.
>>35638686 Not for osteo arthritis. In osteoarthritis, the pain is more due to mechanical wear and tear in the joints. While it is true that asprin or other drugs may give slightly higher pain relief, acetaminophen should be the first thing you reach for because of its lower toxicity and less side effects.
Good to know. I'm a paramedic currently looking to go to med school so I'm always interested to learn stuff like that.
On the subject of it, are there any must have books for your career that can help the process of school? Most of my experience is emergency medicine and I worked under cardiologists for several years but I need to branch out more to learn about other specialties
>>35638772 Their is no good treatment for back pain unfortunately. Rest does not show to help. Exercise and stretches do not seem to do much either. I usually just have to tell patients to go about their day as usual and take an NSAID as needed. It should go away within 2-3 weeks if it is musculoskeletal related. If it doesn't, you need an xray, then MRI
I can't drink enough. Doc raised my thyroid and I always feel thirsty. No salt on anything, always liquid in my hand. Coffee at minimum, alcohol once every couple of months. They use my piss for the aquafina commercials.
Apparently got liver damage, but the doc can't meet me for two weeks. It hurts my side to eat most things, also nausea. What diet should I follow to minimize damage/heal liver? Some places online say cut almost all proteins, but muh gains. What do?
>>35638944 don't think so, but my eyes have been hurting a bit more. Probably cause of the increased time outside this week not more than normal. I need to slow down no cold no, no idea on the hot, been -20 forever
The increase was a result of blood work done. Been on the thyroid for a while. My level R1(?) was low
>>35638338 My dad has naturally high cholesterol. Same with his father, and his father before him. Right around 25 is when it starts to set in. I'm 21 now and would like to avoid that. What are some things I can do to lower my cholesterol before taking meds for it?
>>35638991 Coconut oil has one of the highest saturated fat contents of any oils. Even more than butter. Saturated fat is proven to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol.
This has not yet been seen in people eating the saturated fats in coconut oil. So we honestly do not know how good or bad it is at this point. We do know that virgin olive oil and canola oil will raise HDL and lower LDL. So I would stick with those and avoid coconut oil for now.
>>35639022 >Your diet shouldn't affect your liver as long as you don't eat poison (ie alcohol etc.) Avoiding all poisons but it really hurts every time I eat. Should I eat less or something? Already on pretty small meals. 70 grams of fish makes my side hurt :/ Any pain killers that I can take safely?
>>35638886 Falling for the statin meme. They probably can't hurt but their effects are overestimated due to some biased studies especially in healthy adults. In people with hypercholesterolaemia they have proven benefits tho.
>>35638338 the girlfriend used to be into working out a lot, but now since she is more happier now she doesn't really feel the need annymore, which is also good of course. But she is slowly gaining... I try to get her to work-out more, but she always haves knee problems.. How can i get my gf to work-out again so she stays sexy and can do active activities with me, without pushing her over the edge and go full anorexia an depressed mode.
Bro every time I go to the doctor, and he checks my blood pressure and I can feel his soft, powerful hands on my body and I can smell his deodorant and all I can imagine is riding his cock, no homo. Do I have the flu?
>>35639076 If it hurts your side its cause of something else, food doesn't cause liver pain. Liver rarely causes pain unless its infected (hepatitis, pfeifer etc.) liver cirrhosis/damage is painless.. What place is hurting ? Which side? And why do you insist its your liver?
>>35638338 I dislocated my shoulder doing a muscle-up about 3 months ago, got an ultrasound the day after, and was diagnosed with a irritated bursa After treating with anti-inflammatories for a little while I started doing gentle rotator cuff rehabilitation exercises, and the pain is completely gone from my day to day life. Every time I try to deadlift though, it feels like it's gunna fall out of joint again, and hurts like it did in the first week. I'm able to OHP 70kg again, down from 80, but doing that weight irritates the shoulders afterwards. Basically I'm stuck doing legs and OHP, and I'm scared of doing bench, because that was the exact angle that my shoulder dislocated on, and it feels 'loose'.
Wat do? I'm honestly considering roids for the duration of my rehabilitation, because I feel like I'm just gunna keep losing strength.
>>35639433 Yeah it's all day. There's never much relief but it can vary in soreness, I cried last week and it got a lot worse and also if I sleep in it can feel a lot worse too. It's an achy pain, it's not particularly painful of sorts but its just quite tiring since its pretty much always there.
>>35638423 Most physical ailments can be fixed with dietary changes and regular exercise. If your diet is all well for 3 months and you are exercising properly like >>35638448 said, then you should take some atenolol or whatever your doctor prescribes.
>>35639333 Yeah it can, but liver pain is rare and it would be even more rare to radiate to his left side. That's like saying you could win the lottery if you bought a ticket (it could but the chance is so small it becomes irrelevant in practice)
>>35639583 I get dizzyness after a lengthy treadmill session for about 5-10 minutes, no other symptoms really aside from the aforementioned tiredness. NSAID definitely removes the pain but I can still feel a little bit of pressure. If it helps, the headache feels like its around the back-right of my head.
Two females in my family have had luekemia, but aside from that we don't have a family history of major diseases.
>>35639609 Fucking someone is sensible. People don't seem to grasp the concept of "diseases don't follow textbook". It doesn't mean you have to cover every possible diagnoses in your initial evaluation, it means you must be ready to think outside the box when your initial evaluation is wrong.
>>35639327 Don't take painkillers I think your problem is a stomach ulcer (tho I really have little information to go on so obviously it's just a hunch) painkillers would make it worse. You can try some anti acidics like remmi, they won't hurt you if they don't work and its probably worth a shot, you're better off just consulting a local physician soon tho.
>>35639647 Top kek that's total bull shit >>35639646 And thanks, I know there's no point in giving him 100 possible diagnoses rather just think cleverly and keep other options in the back of the mind. That's how practicing medicine works.
>>35639070 >Saturated fat is proven to raise LDL (bad) cholesterol and lower HDL (good) cholesterol
Do you have any studies to show where this is proven? I've looked into a lot of studies around this and there is a lot of conflicting evidence from studies. I haven't really delved into it recently, so perhaps there are some studies out there that I'm not aware of.
How do I fix my erections? My penis cracked during sex a few years back and since then, they haven't been as hard. I got an ultrasound and it didn't show any damage. I tried no fap, but it still only stays 100% hard with constant stimulation. When I squeeze my pelvic floor muscles, it doesn't feel like I'm holding blood in, but like it's flowing out a bit. Before I broke it, it would feel like I totally cut off circulation by squeezing. Kegels seem to help a bit, but not much.
>>35638338 I was close grip bench pressing and then hurt my hand? I couldn't place thr bar on my right hand without it hurting and I couldn't fully grip with my right hand. I read that it could be a tendon strain or something. What do I do?
>>35639974 You should be aware that without a physical exam and lab work, it's impossible to diagnose abdominal pain over the Internet. The closest answer we can give is that stomach or pancrease problem is the most likely cause.
Ive been banging quite a few questionable skanks.. no symptoms of STDS but I don't get a slight nagging ball pain in my right ball/hernia area after doing dead lifts or other heavy lifts.. Could it be syphallis or something or is it probably just from lifting?
I've just started running and have just done the first week of C25K and about half way through my second and third runs my right foot got tingly/numb. It felt like it was most of my foot except for the top part. When I finished the third run I could feel a slight tingling sensation in my left foot as well.
I tried loosening my laces after it happened the first time but it didn't help. Should I just go to a doctor or try replacing my shoes? Is there anything else I can do to prevent this?
Also should I be running if I'm 89kg at 5"8- 5"9? I don't want to unnecessarily damage my joints.
>>35638338 Three weeks ago I hurt my back snowboarding. The first day I couldn't stand up straight. At one point, I had to get down on all fours, drop what i was carrying, and crawl over to a chair. Its gotten much better since then, by my lower back still hurts sometimes. what do you think would cause this? I think the injury came from a twisting motion. also, I started going to the gym and every part of my body hurts like hell. How long of a break should I take between gym days.
>>35639076 If food is causing "liver" pain, it might be due to gallstones.
Your gall bladder is very close to your liver, and releases bile to help digest fats. With gallstones, some small stones form in the gallbladder and get stuck in the bile duct, causing pain whenever your gall bladder wants to release bile.
Cut fats entirely out for a meal or two. Then have a fat full meal. Then report back.
I have continuous pain in an area similar to pic. It usually hurts like a bitch during squats and deadlifts. And it also hurts overall all the time. This has been for around 2 months and it keeps getting worse. What do?
>>35640701 Yeah, I'm a "pajeet" and I get more white pussy at my health science center than any of you insecure betas. Oh, and I'll be raking in 300000/year while you'll still be shitposting on /fit/ in your mother's basement.
>155/88 That's way over pre-hypertension. Secondary hypertension reasons (kidney disease, pheochromocytoma, etc.) should be eliminated. If it's essential hypertension, your GP should prescribe you ACE inhibitors. If you don't take care, you may die of heart failure at a relatively early age.
>>35640192 >>35640238 Actually, it depends on the angle of scoliosis and one's age. Primary surgery indication comes with larger degrees. Lesser scoliosis can get better in young age with swimming, pull-ups, pilates, etc.
>>35638338 There are these tiny red spots on my balls, about 4-6 of them, they are tiny lumps. Sometimes they get really itchy and sometimes I feel nothing. I'm afraid they are the same thing as the fungal infections that I got on my ankles and hands. Should I get my balls checked? Unlike my legs and hands, the lumps on my balls didn't get worse and start leaking liquid. However the lumps on my balls itch the same way but sometimes the itch goes away for a long period and sometimes it returns. I think it could be related to sleep deprivation
>>35641779 ECG may show hypertrophic heart. If your father has hypertension, so you have genetic predisposition. < 140/90 blood pressure is considered prehypertensive stage, 140 - 160 is stage I hypertension. ~160 when people gets two kinds of anti-hypertensive drugs. Go to an internal physician, tell him your symptoms. He would check you kidneys. No smoking, no excess alcohol, regulate salt intake, exercise, don't gain fat are your best options.
>>35641818 That doesn't seem to be physiological tachycardia. Beware, you may die of tachyarrythmia. Go to a cardiologist; echocardiography should be useful. Genetic predisposition plays a role, your ancestry may be sensitive to cathecolamines, etc.

My scapulae crackle really bad (lound and a lot), especially in the morning after getting up. Sometimes (rarely) I even get pain. How fix?
Also, I have sharp pain in my hips (or obliques) areas when I bend over, turn around, or extend my lower back. It goes away when I repeat the movement enough. How fix? Also not sure if I used the correct words. Thanks if you reply.
>>35642038 Try stretching moves to relax your tight muscles, you can find lots of videos of that. If you accidentally hurt yourself in excercise, go to a physiotherapist. It may be about a muscle tear or your vertebrae, etc.
>>35642104 I know it's spoonfeeding but what kind of stretching exercises? Thing is, i did small exercises for my stomach muscles (recommended by /fit/, a scooby video) before christmas, then stopped, and since then my back pain has gotten significantly worse. It has moved from lower back to upper back.
>>35642068 You may have a rheumatological disorder. Ankylosing spondilytis is the first thing came to my mind. There are tests for rheumatoid diseases, find videos of these test and have a friend/relative apply it to you.
Ey Doc, here's an off topic question. I shook an old guys hand after assisting him at work and shortly thereafter I noticed a small amount of blood on my hand. I assume he did something and hadn't noticed yet, and I couldn't find any cuts to show it was my own. I believe the biggest risks are HIV / Hep B, got my shot maybe 20 years ago for Hep B, and I have no idea of this mans medical condition. I know you can go to the ER and get meds for HIV, but it being a small amount of blood and on chapped skin at worst, is it realistically worth going through that month long treatment? I noticed it within a minute of it happening likely, and immediately went and scrubbed the crap out of my hand with hot water and soap. Should I even worry?
>>35642333 >155/88 No, that was a different guy. I think I have left ventricular hypertrophy. My diastolic pressure is low beyond the charts (highest it's ever been was 65), but have systolic hypertension, apparently. Sometimes it's 120, other times it's 140-145. I have mentioned it occasionally, but docs don't seem to care, they assume it's a clinical artefact.
>>35642530 Eh I get cut routinely at my job, though I know even if you took blood from an HIV positive person in a syringe, and injected it into your bloodstream, you still only have like a 1% chance to get it yourself. Even so, any cut or opening to your bloodstream / saliva has potential.
I had a wrist sprain some months back that might have healed not perfectly. Now everytime I get to increase the weight on bench or military press I get some annoying pain slightinly on that wrist, till I get used to the new weight. I also get it sometimes when sleeping with the hand in some positions. Is this serious? I don't always get it and it goes away tho.
Is kegals legit? I'm having trouble getting 100% erections and normally my dick just hangs forward, doesn't go up nigga help. I'm 19 so I doubt it's an age thing, my diet is getting better and I workout every day basically, on and off intense exercises
Oke. So the docter said to me when i was 15 that i have a possible disease called cluster headache/suicide headache. Now 5 years later still living with it but it feels like i have cancer like everywhere. I know it sounds weird but that is just the feeling.
>>35642662 Get lots of girlfriends in your first years. Find a real mentor, one who can write good recommendation letters for you. There are pseudo-idealistic jerks don't let them fool you. Visit lots of clinics, watch lots of surgeries. Visit emergency service a lot; learn to do suturing, venopuncture, etc. Never be too hasty about specialization.
>>35642700 >not having insurance lol. You pseudo-neets are a menace. You take so much pride in not spending any money, because what's the worst that could happen, ey? Then you get cucked by the healthcare system.
>>35642738 >live in 100-120 people village >cozy as fuck, no-car roads, cars only allowed in the outer street of the village >get run over by a drunk woman >fucking arthrosis at 26 in my back and my arms tremble all the time now >lol neet, no insurance lelel you deserve it
Congrats, you can go feel proud of your post in your basement
>>35642788 Sorry, had to check the words since I'm not an english native. My wounds healed, but I developed early arthrosis and have this weird trembling in my hands/forearms. It's the C5 to C8 vertebrae that are fucked up now
>>35642756 Watch them in lectures and clinic, when you spot someone who can appreciate hard-work, follow him. Ask him to join a study of his, if you have an article published in early years, you will have an excellent experience for your CV.
>>35642757 Piercing pain originates from visceral capsules, diaphragm, etc. Probably a local irritation but there are always herniations of diaphragm (Bochdalek, Morgagni, etc.), or other conditions. I'd have a chest and abdomen x-ray.
1. Suffered exertion headache last week twice. I know they're caused by improper breathing, but my breathing was fine and it happened on a relatively light set of squats (10x205lbs, less than 70% of 1RM).
2. Knee pain on the lateral side of my left knee right beside the kneecap. Is this an IT band issue? Not sure what to do other than stretch, but not sure what kind of stretch would alleviate the problem. I also get muscle spasms or cramps where parts of my body just magically begin to hurt for no reason.
>>35642825 Don't ever exert yourself if no one examined you. Neurological deficits are real problems. Brachial plexus symptoms are not good news. You can wake up to quadriplegia, you never want that. Get yourself examined.
I have chondromalacia on my knees. I have never experienced pain , only I have this inflammation that seems constant. My doctor suggested I take a chondrotine supplement and that I don't have to worry about anything as long as I work out my legs the way I do,meaning that my legs are strong. The thing is that the inflammation drives me crazy from time to time when I'm seating for long hours and that happens a lot cause I study computer science and I already need my pc for entertainment etc. I'm thinking getting some fish oil from musclepharm to see if anything improves. Do you have to suggest anything ? The doctor said that this is how my legs are made and it was not my fault that I face this problem as my legs are kinda tilted , not straight-normal and that I don't need to worry but I wonder if you can give some tips or thoughts on this.
I injured myself just below my knee about 5 weeks ago while doing squats. I believe i injured myself because I was too bouncy during my squats. The injury kicks in each time i extend my leg. Its not too bad but it keeps me from squatting for a while, and then when squatting I bring it about again.
I'm assuming its a mild case of patella tendonitis or something? How long should I not do legs for to make sure it recovers correctly? Or is there a way to still do legs if I change my form or something?
>>35643049 Avoid heavy squats as it hurts your knees. Cold compression have relaxation. I've heard about cartilage supplements but there are doubts about it's beneficence. Fish oil is about omega fats and a few vitamins, it may not directly affect your knee.
I tried those tests, turned out negative. Like I was saying, the pain is only when I increase the weight I use on the bench or military; when I get used to them it goes away. Also I rarely get it after sleep, don't know exactly how I keep my hand those times when I sleep but it lasts for 1, 2 days at most. Wouldn't nerve entrapment be constant or something? I don't know. If you still have any suggestions I'd like to hear them, if not THANK YOU for your initial help and also for doing this. You're a good man.
When I say I increase the weight I mean every few weeks when I add more weight to the bar, not like warm ups or ramp up sets and I don't really do warm ups, only some bodyweight warming up movements. And no, when I get used to the new weight I don't need to warm up to use the working weight.
OP, it's been awhile but I feel like my pee muscles got weaker. I used to like pee, then squirt out the excess but now I can't really do that. I noticed it kind of suddenly, but idk what to do with it. Too poor to go to the doctor. It was worse before, I'd be peeing fairly frequently, and it felt like I couldn't get everything out, and while now the former is better, the latter is still kinda the same, just not as severe. Sometime I sit there for awhile trying to pee, and the last bit comes out, or sometimes I like squeeze out the pee because I can't just pee it out normally.. what is wrong with me doctor ;_; what do I do
