It's not about the specific weight. Heck, your lmaopl8s can be metric OR standard units, even. It's about the visual appearance of using the biggest plates.
Let's just use OHP as an example. Maybe you warm up with 25s, then put a pair of 10s on for a couple sets, then put another pair of 10s on for more sets. At this point, technically speaking, you're lifting the same amount of weight as a standard lmao1pl8, but it's less visually impressive because you are using smaller plates. Taking off the 25s and 10s and putting on a 45 may seem redundant but it will increase your chances of impressing the Asian qt3.14.
