The issue I have with this NYR shit is not that people wanna come and get fit, fuck I RESPECT that, a lot - it takes balls.
What really fucks me off is faggots and bitches who join the gym just to turn up to try and fucking look good. They're not working hard, not putting effort in - they're there to try and attract attention when in reality they can't lift shit and are about as aesthetic as a toe nail.
>>35501366 Noticed one guy out of about ten who I think will keep going. A lot of them are hairy old men who have never been fit and probably never will. Lots of people show up and do cardio though so the freeweights area is still relatively empty.
>>35501366 I work as a trainer in a local gym and for five days I've been answering the same beginner questions over and over, knowing that only about 5% of the NYRs will still train in four weeks. But for those 5% I would and will do it again year after year.
Luckily, I've never actually even been inside a commercial gym. I started lifting in college, so I had the uni gym. And then I decided to put together my own home gym, since it would cost me less than 2 years of gym membership anyway and I could be super lazy and work at home, alone, and naked.
College gym didn't have NYR fags, but it had new semester fags, which are basically the same thing I guess.
>>35501406 This shit drives me up a wall. It's mostly girls who just sit around and gossip while "using" the machines and by using I mean they sit there for 10 minutes then do ONE set of incredibly light weight. Light is relative but it's obvious as fuck when someone is not even putting any effort in, not even challenging themselves. Why come to the gym if you're not even really going to try?
>>35501406 Just goes to show, becoming fit is suppose to not only shape your body, but also your mind. In addition to squats and heavy lifts, we're suppose to learn patience and discipline; to learn our body's limits, how to safely push them, and temper the fire inside us. So if we resolve to just throw aside balance and cheat our way to the finish line, then we best prepare to be consumed by our own fiery greed and impatience.
>Monday >Go to more lifting gym (lots of racks and free weights) >just the regulars and a few people on cardio >m-maybe NYRs are a myth >Today >Go to more cardio /soccermum gym (no racks two Smith machines) to do some rowing >Treadmills packed full of chubby men and women, most just walking >Everyone using weights machines >People just holding two dumbbells and waving them in every direction like it's some sort of lift
>>35502310 a resolution is a firm decision to do or not do something. there are no separate long term resolutions and short term resolutions. these resolutions are static.
a goal is something you want to achieve and have planned your way to achieve. you can have long term goals and short terms goals to get you closer to your long term goal. once that goal is achieved you'll usually want more and upgrade your goal.
>conscription just ended >join a gym to avoid going back to being a couch potato >no experience with weird ass machines and most techniques because we mostly did core and other shit that 150 people can do at a time with minimal material costs >people are gonna hate me for being a new year resolutionist when i just want to avoid falling back into old habbits
Was annoyed since it took 10 minutes to park but then I saw 5 grills sticking their asses up in the air in the stretching area, one of them had see through yoga pants and she wasn't wearing any panties.
>Joined gym around 3 months ago >Fatasfatass >Gym has a swimming pool >Moslty do swimming since its easier on my knees >A lot of NYR'ers in the small swimming pool, swimming far too slowly, ruined 2 workouts >Decided to go in the gym and use cardio equipment since no one can fuck that up for me >No one in the gym really knows me >I look like a NYR
>>35503232 Like I said...You have the lower body and you have no upper body, you got a problem building...wait a minute. You have the upper body, and you have no legs, you got a problem building your legs. You have the upper...you have the lower body and you don't have the upper body, the upper body, it is easier to build. So if you have the lower body and you don't have the upper body, it is easier to build the upper body. You have the upper body and you don't have the legs, you got a problem building the lower body... No, you don't understand. You have the upper body, but you don't have the lower body, you got a problem building downstairs. You got the up- legs on the bottom, it is easier to build on the top, so you don't have much as a problem.
>>35504097 Me too man. I started lifting 2 months ago (did a lot of cardio until i started lifting to lose some weight first) and today I was squating 1.25 plates while some NYR guy was squating 0.5 plate next to me with bad form (he did not even go down to parallel). I wanted to correct his form, but I am not sure if it would seem too douchy....
It was my first day in the gym today. I took a training program from the sticky post here on /fit/. I was confident as i had prepared papers and i also had been watching a lot of videos on how to perform shit. I started with the bench press and it was all good because i had been doing this one before and i wasn't able to notice people looking at me because my eyes were up in the roof anyway.
I then saw that the place for Squat were available, so i rushed over there with my towel, notes and pen. I did one dip first and i fucked it up not having my foots flat. I got ashamed but tried it out once more. I still fucked up in the same way. There were people on both sides. Some were looking and some were not. Who would not honestly? A fatty trying to perform godlike methods. I got kinda ashamed of myself and went home.
>>35505118 Don't fucking quit on us anon. Don't fucking do it. It fucking sucks to be new to the gym, especially around the new year, and it's easy to get caught up in what the other people think about you. Forget them bro. Fuck them. Everyone starts somewhere and this just happens to be where you start. Fix your form that you fucked up on, don't worry if you mess up a few times with it, just make sure to fix it. Go back to that fucking gym and fucking make it.
We're all gonna make it bro, you better run with us.
>>35505118 Watching videos is not enough to learn how to squat. Read SS and post form checks on /plg/ if you prefer the low bar squat style or read Greg Everetts guide to olympic weightlifting and post form checks in /owg/ for high bar.
>>35504832 Yeh girls at the gym, third time I saw the same QT teen chick this year. Gets on treadmill to do 15 mins of "HIT"/going from a 2 minute walk to a 2 min 6mph "run". Then onto the stretches. No sweats, no puffing, then leaves. Why even leave the house? And if by some grace of god a recovery session from something outside of the gym why waste your money, theyres a nice and safe park across the road. Did I mention she was cute though? I will have to keep an eye on here to make sure her routine changes.
>>35503498 Hey, use the NYR-bait discounts to jew the gym (who expect to sell 1 year memberships at a discout, then actually make more money because they paid for ~6 months and only went for a week). Maybe get some advice on proper lifting and whatnot as well (though at my old gym it looked like the trainers hadn't got a fucking clue. Squats in the smith machine.)
>>35505118 Dude. We don't bash people doing, or even trying to do, real lifting. The NYR hate meme is about the faggots who go to the gym to mosey along on the treadmill and use a buncha machines. Ask for some help. Do some bar-only lifts to get your form down. I've never seen anyone judging for doing light weights.
>>35505118 if your feet are going up try going down without the bar and pushing your knees out with your arms. if you're still Lifting your heels try spreading your stance a little if you're STILL lifting your heels put some 5s under your heels. WE'RE ALL GOING TO MAKE IT!
>>35503498 Was in the same boat mate. Used to lift when in then due to injuries sustained during my terminal leave I have to restart. Worth it, but on the negative side of things it's New Years. Good news , is a friend and I ended pounding down some drinks and she admitted that I had a good body and she wants to work out with me. Too bad for her it's leg day tomorrow
Yeah dude I love being stared at by the fat people on cardio machines and some insecure, dyel high-schoolers while im jacked up on my hyde benching with my football pals >walked up to one doing curls with my earbuds in and started yelling "WHEN YOU GROW UP DONCHA WANT TO BE JUST LIKE ME"
I go a powerlifting gym which is just basically a converted warehouse full of bars and free weights with a few rarely used cardio machines upstairs.
Everyday I've been there since Jan 1st I've seen 5-10 people walk in and talk to the guy behind reception. Around 80% of them just turn around and leave, the remaining 20% stand around awkwardly doing curls and pushups.
>>35505233 >is that a long walk for you? Who would willingly waste time walking 70 minutes? Time is our most precious resource and wasting it to appease some babies on the Internet seems utterly retarded.
If I see another fuccboi with that trendy hitler youth (the stupid version that makes your hair go up in the air 10cm) haircut doing 3 curl variations and then flexing in front of the mirror I will be ANGRY.
I always thought things like this are exaggerated when people talk about it but they are 100% true.
I'm so sick of all this vanity and ooga booga behaviour. And yet I'm the idiot because I get angry while the fuccbois go home feeling good.
>>35505118 that is really good man, first time in the gym I didnt even have the guts to do any barbell lifts you are definitely gonna make it protip: work on your hip, shoulder and ankle mobility and your squat will get better
>>35504675 My gym keeps a giant fucking fan next to the stationary bikes even when it's raining and freezing outside, I'm in there trying to do some cardio and freezing my ass off, I need to work harder just to keep myself from freezing to death.
>kids squatting on toes >kids lifting bar above head to do ohp but put it behind their head and half rep. >crossfitters doing wheel barrel walks but facing up. I hope they don't tear their shoulder to shreds >people wearing boxing clothes with boxing gloves hitting the bag then running two laps with their hands in the air like they are Rocky. Like legit boxing shorts and wife beaters. Jesus Christ why waste the money just to hit a ducking bag 5x5 then run two laps
I couldnt give a fuck about NYE'ers coming in, they are trying something new and most will give up within 2 or 3 weeks...its busier but you get alot more ppl mirin you then normal, its a good ego boost and telling you your doing something right, yes the form is shit but who gives a fuck get back to training not bitching
>getting into running rhythm on treadmill >skeleton black kid stops me >asks me how to make his treadmill faster >literally a button in the middle of the machine labelled "speed" >he does 10 minutes alternating walking pace and old person walking pace, then leaves to fuck around on random machines
>two Asians on other treadmill beside me >spend 5 minutes trying to turn on machine >big red button labelled "On" right next to the speed one in the middle of the machine
NYR fags are pissing me off. I normally go to the gym I'm the late evening when it starts to clear out. It was absolutely packed last night. Had a hard time finding packing. Can't wait for these losers to give up. Just taking up space.
>>35512586 >purchased gym membership right before new year's >plans on running a half marathon >just wants to strengthen the legs >already finding limits and bitching about them (it's January 6th) >uses the word "abysmal" instead of trigger words like "horrible" or "shitty"
I worked in a gym for 2 years. You are such a typical New Year's Fag that it's depressing. Every New Year's Fag just wants to strengthen some things and run in a half marathon in the Spring and they buy their gym membership in December because they just can't wait to tackle their fitness dreams. You are going to fail because you'll give up and try it again next year.
>>35516349 DYEL here. I do these before bed on rest days. Usually just one set and I go until I can't anymore. I used to be able to do 50 but I stopped for a while and now I can only get up to 25. They're actually a lot of fun and they can be a good party trick in the right situation.
>really want to lose weight. >plan on joining a gym. >want a nutrition plan/fitness plan that is easy to do like I can just buy groceries for it and make it. >dont actually want to talk to any trainers at the gym.
dem feels. I just want to go in and get the fuck out as fast as possible.
>>35505055 I live on the edge of the arctic circle in a country that is nothing but hills. Literally slipped on my first step outside today. I just wanna ride bikes everywhere, not have to deal with 8am traffic.
>>35517361 You can, your the only one preventing your own progress. counting calories isnt hard and its relatively self exploratory, and choose a beginner routine or something, SL or whatever. But you won't, because you are sitting here complaining about your lack of discipline on a Hindu trading card enthusiast forum.
>>35516349 >not knowing what a handstand pushup is
Just because you've been going to the gym for 2 months doesn't mean you're any better than a resolutioner or anyone else for that matter. This post is a hilarious combination of insecurity & ignorance though so good luck with that
One of my relatives married a fatbody, and they've had a kid. To the surprise of absolutely fucking no-one, the baby was fat as hell and has turned into a fucking butterball toddler
my relative is getting fat as well now. And his wife is severely pregnant but you literally can't tell because she's so fat. 100% not exagerating that point at all. So I have another fatass baby relative to look forward to.
That entire family causes me to despair. He used to go for long walks every night and hit the gym regular, now he's twice as heavy as when he started dating her.
>>35521343 I understand. Exercise and losing weight really does help with depression, for me it gave me a place that I could escape to. Also having a routine really helped with bringing back some purpose into my life. Gym helping depression is certainly not a meme
I had a routine and everything and was going hard for 9 months. Went from 340 to 260lbs in that time. Was aiming for 175lbs. I just lost sight of my goals, got lazy and too comfortabl and ended up back where i started because i couldn't control my eating.
I could tell everyone was proud of me and i feel ashamed that i failed. I bet everyone knew it was going to happen and it was nothing but a fluke.
>>35521408 Dude, the only thing I can say is prove them wrong. You know yourself you have it in you to succeed, just go out and do it. If you went hard for 9 months, that's fucking crazy good man. 9 months is a long time, and if you were willing to dedicate yourself to the gym and clean eating for 9 months, then you can definitely do it again, and for longer this time.
I'm a very self-consensus guy. When i was 260lbs i was told my stomach looked like a deflated tire and my confidence that i worked so hard for disappeared in an instant. I proceeded to binge eat shortly after.
Uni gym. It doesn't really seem to get any busier around New Years. I guess it's mostly attended by people too young to have "get healthy" as a first priority for resolutions. It does get busier around the beginning of new terms, just new beginnings, or people that want to get back to it after they slacked off for mid terms and never came back.
>>35501366 I've seen some dumb shit,as expected, but I'm kind of proud of myself /fit/ Hell I'm pretty fucking happy, There was a skelly who had been coming in and just kind of fucking around watching people and trying to emulate what he saw. He followed me around doing just about my entire routine, he'd used next to no weight and his form was way the fuck off, but the little bastard was trying so hard guys, sweat was pouring off this kid, he got pale, lips looked cracked obvs dehydrated and ill nourished, I was going to say fuck it and forget about him, but I felt sorry for him, I was where he was when I started ( I did research and such before hand and light training though ) I was king skelly 6'3' 110lbs soaking wet before, so I knew where he was coming from. Came home and posted about it here in an NYR thread and with a push from some anons I threw him together a care package of sorts, some whey, vitamins, supps, weighted chains, handwraps, just a ton of shit I either didnt use or had more of than I needed and tossed it in my trunk figuring I'd give it to him if/when I saw him again. He was there the next evening, it was like Christmas bruhs, I came in and chatted to him, got the stuff outta my car and watched him just light up, I felt like father fucking Christmas and spent 2 solid hours just going over shit and making notes for him. Spent some time on glorious diddlylift OHP bench and squat teaching proper form and covering basics, he managed surprisingly well, really well mannered kid, brokefag family like mine, used his first check from his first job to get the membership. I've seen him every time I go in, I'm there 5 days a week and worried he's gonna fuck himself up though... he's like my gym son, asking me questions, mirin' my lifts, just shooting shit in general. Even played a game of chess and took him for some post workout BBQ. It feels so fucking good /fit/ I need this kid to make it.
> fatty > been going to the gym since November > look like a NYR'
Oh well. At least i'm getting stronger every week. Didn't lose weight for like a month and a half, got sick and missed a week and a half of gym time. It's been a week since I started going and i'm 3.5lbs lighter. I want to make it, friends. I'm going to make it.
>>35501366 i use the gym at work, normally go towards the end of the day, when it's quiet.
went early... few people in full gear doing not much, pretty normal. one couple struck a nerve tho. >guy's forearms dwarfed his calves, his quads weren't much bigger (bi's defiantly bigger than his quads), girl was a little chubby, whatever >they go to the oly platforms, going to do some deads (happy to see) >broceif loads up 1pl8, belt on and does 6 reps, looking like a question mark "oh man this belt helps so much" >girl loads the 35s, good on her FUCKING BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG >she is not just dropping it down, she is throwing it >dude ends up working his way up to 90kgs > his form improves somewhat, still fucking terrible >girl slams the weight down after every rep > they film themselves for some of the sets
I used to when i was smaller. I used to do an hour of cardio every time i went to the gym. One time i managed to "burn" 1450cal on a treadmill but to be honest i don't really trust those treadmill cal tickers. lol
Starting out i would power walk for so long then jog and then run when 5 minutes were left. When i got to my last minute i would sprint as fast i as i could. Seeing a 260lb guy sprint is funny i would assume but i did it. Felt alive every time i did it. I dunno how well those treadmills track speed but the highest i got was 11mph but as i said i don't really trust those things.
You piece of shit, you wasted all that time for nothing. You better go back out there and lose all that weight again, and if you don't do it this time you're never gonna do it. You'll die a lone and a loser. Don't stop until you hit 180. It's gonna take you a year or two but if you don't do it NOW you NEVER WILL.
>>35521864 Yeah, if you could get back to like 260lbs, then you could start treadmilling again. I completely understand what you mean, running brings such a thrill, it was my favourite thing to do at the gym. Honestly if you just eat clean and go to the gym without much cardio, you can return to like 250lbs and start running again.
lots and lots of middle aged women in my gym. apparently they all quit again too because the gym was p empty today. all the younger guys who just joined already seem to know what they're doing though. sadly. because now a bunch of dyels are hogging the few squat racks my gym has. empty bar squats all around.
i hope none of them quit though otherwise they have wasted my time for nothing.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little manlet? Ill have you know I graduated top of the Starting Strength program, and Ive been involved in numerous milk jugging competitions, and I have over 300 confirmed lifts. I am trained in Rippetoe style and Im the top squatter in the entire US lifting circles. You are nothing to me but just another personal record. I will wipe you the fuck out with a hip drive the likes of which has never been seen before in this gym, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, curlbro. As we speak I am calculating your TDEE and your calories are being burned right now so you better prepare for a gains drain, resolutioner. The gains drain that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call you call a PR. DYEL, kid? I can lift anywhere, anytime, and I can send you to snap city in over seven hundred ways, and thats just with a barbell. Not only am I extensively trained in my home gym master race, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the collected works of Scooby on youtube and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable lifts off the face of the continent, you little T-Rex. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little clever comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you wouldn't have curled in the fucking squat rack. But you could, you did, and now youre paying the price, you fucking manlet. I will do at least 4 all over you, C'MON. Youre fucking dead, brah.
>>35529237 It was beyond bad dude, my shit was atrphied from doing nothing but playing WoW on a coffee whiskey soup and prescribed antipsychotics and antidepressants diet, I had a padded bench instead of a computer chair so after I was done playing I'd just sleep there, only time I left the house was to walk over to the bridge to see if I could bring myself to jump that day. I was the definition of Auschwitz Mode. As of my weigh in today I'm at 185 and little buddy is 125 at 6'2".
>>35530852 >my ego is fragile cmon, a year ago i was fucking stabbed and nearly died, you can imagine how fragile my ego is now but you on the other side just have to motivate yourself a bit, you can do it and you know it, hope you will make it
>>35501366 I can't stand it, there's this new 6'1 amazon goddess behind the counter every time I walk in, classy as fuck alpha sales female and I'm only 5'10, would totally ask her out because she stares at me (chicks like my eyes for some reason) for those 3 uncomfortable I'm-going-to-beat-your-dick-into-submission seconds but every time I get close I smell the amount of makeup she has on and I'm reminded of a goddamn pharmacy and completely lose my 1/2 mast but fuck.
>be me, chubby fuck >lifted for about 3 months around this time last year (not related to a resolution, just coincidence) >quit because freelance work in evenings picked up and didn't have/make time >late december, gf asks me if I want to go with her >been wanting to get back to it, so say yeah, fuck it, let's start tonight >turns out it was a NYR for her >I'm an accidental NYR fag shit. >go to gym, sparse population because off hours >struggle through sets with my little fischer price weights >stretch for squat, get into rack with empty bar for warmup >go down, can barely even get to half-squat my form was always bad, but jesus christ >ask dude at the desk if he'd help me with my form >happy to help, gives me like a half hour of nonstop advice, hammers my form into shape, squatting feels great again >does the same thing next time on my rows, unsolicited but very welcome dude's been a lifesaver. although, I was doing a greyskull variation routine and he's advised me to switch to hypertrophy at the start to build some mass to strengthen and help me with my main goal of losing fat. it's against all the advice I've read online, but fuck it, it's more personalized at least.
>>35501366 I see something dumber each day passing. I saw some dude starting in shoulder press position with two 5 kg dumbbells and then rotating his arms 90 degrees for like 20 reps and 10 sets. Saw some guy get trapped under a barbell because he put the rails too low for him to move away. Saw some girl doing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKLwqbad9JM on the dead lift mat. I have yet to see an unmotivated fatty.
It depends what time you go. I used to go to my old base's gym at around 8pm and leave at closing. Most of the base would get off work around 4pm or 430 and the gym would be filled with every meme that you can think of. After that, it was just the regulars.
>>35535268 I don't see it like bait at all. These people wrecked their bodies. Not matter how hard they try, they won't look good naked, not even after they remove the excess skin. It's already game over, aesthetics wise, if someone goes past a certain weight. The fatest I've been was 200lbs at 5'9 a few years ago and now my back is full of stretch marks. Luckily that was my wake-up call. So yeah, good for them on wanting to make a change but it's only going to benefit them health wise.
