Is "taste" a talent that you're born with or is it learned?

Some people I know claim to be minimalists but are borderline hoarders.
>>
It's definitely learned, but I guess raised from a young age by extremely tasteful parents it may seem like a person could have been born with it.
>>
>>9253201
taste is often learned/borrowed, everybody on /fa/ has the same fucking taste because they're taught what's hip and cool and what's not by the other posters. You guys are too afraid to be your own person to prevent harsh criticism

that's why ppl like trunks are the best posters on here, he's his own person
>>
What a waste of apartment space.
>>
>>9253276
it's a loft/gallery space from the artist donald judd

i guess he uses his loft building to sleep in, too. he owns every floor, so he can be luxurious with the space
>>
>>9253276
If he's anything like me then he can use that space for /diy/. I think that's a better use of space than having some contrived vase or sculpture

Getting rid of all my stuff and moving into a student's apartment was the best idea I've had in 2014. I only own what I actually use and wear regularly, the furniture is not my own. Feels bretty food to be able to pack a car with all my stuff and just leave anytime
>>
I don't think minimalism is good taste at all, I think it's garbage taste actually.

minimalism is vastly superior to your parent's cluttered, shitstained joke of a house

>>9253455
m8 minimalism lacks character, it's cold and heartless.

Get some real taste.

I like my parents' cluttered apartment. It has character and everything has a story. Really a GOAT house imo.
>>
>>9253424
Kind of agree but nothings uglier than an apartment full of stuff catching dust. The problem is that most people collect more and more useless shit over the years claiming it's decorative.

I feel more comfortable owning less. But then again I have developed a slight ocd in that respect.
>>
only richfags can into godtier mnmlsm
>>
>>9253465
>lacks character
minimalism comes in a variety of shapes and sizes

the only characteristic that all minimalistic designs need to share is the feeling of luxury
the "this place costs a fortune" vibe should always be present

oh and lots of 'wasted' space of course

And this is impossible in a minimalist place why exactly?

unless you have no hobbies/interests/are a boring fuck with no possessions whatsoever, all your stuff already has character or will gain it soon

that contradicts /fa/, bro

it's cool as fuck
>>
I like diy minamalism. Where it looks like some kid didn't have enough money for furniture like that pic of the mattress by the window of that sky scraper

If we're talking pretentious minimalism. Leave that for goth ninja plebs who get their style from Internet forums kek
>>
>>9253465
please post non-minimalist example that's aesthetically pleasing

>>
>>9253525
Personally I like the kind of rooms in the God Tier room threads on /wg/.
>>
>>9253387
This, it's so easy to achieve too.

It's the monochrome fit of interior design.
>>
>>9253525
see >>9253790
>>
>>9253806
ayy lmao
other way around
>>
born with it

social environment etc influences it tho but it comes down to personality

creative people have good taste

obviously if ur raised in a flyover state suburb by mouth breathing 9-5 parents u will never have taste
>>
>>9253817
>obviously if ur raised in a flyover state suburb by mouth breathing 9-5 parents u will never have taste
this is true to an extent
talents are based on genes and have to be 'activated' by something happening in your life

nowadays we have the internet tho so that isn't difficult
>>
>>9253201
it is learned, but you can't learn it without money, that's why poor people don't have good taste
>>
>>9253558
It would be cozy as fuck, like your own foxhole.
>>
>>9253845
lmao holy shit

I bet you wear full rick and brag about it
>>
>>9253866
wut

I'm poor, but my taste in clothes got better the few times that I had enough money to spend in them, recognize my errors and then spend some more on the right choices
>>
>>9253845
You sound like a complete asshole, but you're sort of right. To a certain extent, you can't really put your thoughts into action unless you can afford the apartment/house you want with the furniture you want, with the clothes you want, etc.
>>
>>9253892
the whole point is having those thoughts in the first place, being able to distinguish between bad and good with no effort

this is what 'talent' means
if you think this can be bought, you clearly don't have any
>>
>>9253892
that is what I'm talking about

of course money alone is not enough, but no amount of self-criticism will be enough if you can't even make a mistake
>>
>>9253897
but you think that you can have some thoughts in the first place without taking action

like, you know what clothes flatter you more without trying them on, and so on

and that's impossible, no one ever learns anything just by looking at someone else doing what they should, you must take action and make mistakes to know what is right or wrong
>>
>>9253897
I'm saying that even if you can distinguish between good and bad, you need money to afford the good things. Every residence in this thread belongs to someone who is at least middle class. If you have no income, you can't get any of this.
>>
>>9253913
>>9253921
>there are people who actually believe you need be rich to look good
a talented person could go to walmart and throw together a better fit than most goofniggers in WAYWO
(obviously quality/durability doesn't matter here)

>you know what clothes flatter you more without trying them on, and so on
are you serious? do they force you to pay for trying on clothes or something?
you entire argument dies to that btw
>>
>>9253831
>nowadays we have the internet tho so that isn't difficult
things like tumblr have effectively killed youth culture

now there is only the pretense of individuality

why i dont fuck with internet fashion
>>
>>9253952
how many times have you spend time in the mirror before buying a piece, to figure out that it wasn´t a good choice days or week later?

Maybe, the long route will have you learn all these things about clothing without spending so much, but the more realistic, short route, requires money
>>
>>9253689
repost the ones that you like here
>>
>>9253952
I didn't say you had to be rich. All I'm trying to say is that you need some money to make your taste a reality. When I look at a fit of mine and think of how I could improve it, I have a specific cut of clothing in mind. I then try to hunt down said piece. Buying it takes money.
